NAT traversal for the SIP protocol
by Diana Cionoiu (http://freshmeat.net/~lfy/)
Section: Tutorials
Sun, Feb 19th 2006 00:00
NAT stands for Network Address Translation. It's the technology which
allows most people to have more than one computer in their home and still
use a single IP address. Most of the time, a router with NAT support gets
data packets from the internal network (with internal IP addresses) and
sends them to Internet, changing the internal IP address of each packet to
the external one.

Sun, Feb 19th 2006 19:58
Office/Business :: Financial
Office/Business :: Financial :: Investment
About: beancounter enables stockmarket data analysis and performance
evaluation. It has two main modes. The first is data gathering - both
current data (e.g. closing prices, high, low, volume etc.) and historical
price data can be retrieved efficiently using multiple securities per
requests, and stored in an SQL database (PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQLite are
supported) via easy command line operations. The second mode is data
analysis, based on the previously stored data. This comprises various
performance reports, as well as a Value-at-Risk analysis. beancounter is
implemented as a Perl module, and a Perl command-line frontend to the
module. It supports different stock markets from around the globe, foreign
exchange rates, US mutual funds, and US options.
Changes: An additional check was added against empty currency symbol
strings. A new command line argument --host was added for the existing
host variable. If the host is localhost, DBI now connects via sockets
instead of TCP/IP, which should make configuration easier for novices. The
advance/retracement displays were reformatted for 79 columns.

Changes: This release features a configuration dialog for Emir, result
visualization and export of results to HTML, a faster EdgeHistogram
descriptor, some bugfixes, and some cleanup of the UI. The standards
compliance of the resulting MPEG-7 file in Caliph was fixed, and the image

[016] - Cgiapp.class.php 1.8.0 (Stable)

Sun, Feb 19th 2006 16:48
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: Cgiapp.class.php is a port of CGI::Application to PHP. It utilizes
Smarty as its default templating engine, much as CGI::Application uses
HTML::Template, due to its prevalence and acceptance in the PHP community.
Due to PHP's built-in session support, it also adds two methods, s_param()
and s_delete(), to handle session parameters. A number of static methods
have also been included to facilitate error handling and array/hash
conversion.
Changes: This is a performance release. The codebase underwent a full
audit, with performance improvements in mind. Many methods were made
semi-static (e.g. Cgiapp 1.x must support PHP4), and tests were run
extensively on both PHP4 and PHP5. This is the last feature release of
Cgiapp.class.php; additional releases will be bugfix or security only.
Please consider updating to Cgiapp2, the PHP5-only version, for future
projects.

System :: Monitoring
System :: Operating System Kernels
About: Dazuko provides a device driver allowing 3rd-party (userland)
applications to execute file access control. It was originally developed
by H+BEDV Datentechnik GmbH to allow on-access virus scanning. Other uses
include a file-access monitor/logger or external security implementations.
It operates by intercepting file access calls and passing the file
information to a 3rd-party application. The 3rd-party application then has
the opportunity to tell the device driver to allow or deny the file access.
The 3rd-party application also receives information about the access event,
such as accessed file, type of access, process id, and user id.
Changes: An important fix has been made to prevent a possible deadlock
situation. Process management has also been optimized to reduce context
switches within the kernel. These changes affect all supported platforms.

About: DigicaMerge is a commandline tool to merge directories of pictures
taken with digital cameras. If you've got a digital camera, your hard disk
probably contains many directories full of pictures all named with the same
names. This utility allows you to merge such directories' contents into a
new directory, and renames all the pictures on the fly, ensuring no
filename clash will occur. You can define your own naming scheme, using
either a set of predefined variables or any recognized Exif tag which may
be present in your pictures, and also specify a pattern to select only
certain files.
Changes: A command line option was added to automatically remove duplicate
pictures when merging directories. The manual page is now included in the

Sun, Feb 19th 2006 08:25
System :: Hardware
System :: Monitoring
About: lm_sensors provides essential drivers for monitoring the
temperatures, voltages, and fans of Linux systems with hardware monitoring
devices. It contains Linux 2.4 drivers for sensor chips and I2C and SMBus
masters, text-based tools for sensor reporting, and a library for sensors
access called "libsensors". It also contains tools for sensor hardware
identification and I2C bus probing.
Changes: Support for the Fintek F71805F and Winbond W83687THF Super-I/O
integrated sensors was added. Dozens of cleanups and bugfixes were
backported from Linux 2.6, in particular to the w83627hf and w83792d
drivers. On the I2C protocol front, PEC support was completely rewritten
and PEC support was added to the lm90 driver (as was done in Linux 2.6.)
The speed and output quality of the decode-dimms script were much
improved. Note that libsensors now requires libsysfs for Linux 2.6

[063] - Proxifier 0.7.5b
by Brad Cable (http://freshmeat.net/users/Aeiri/)
Sun, Feb 19th 2006 08:22
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: Proxifier is an easy to install three tier Web proxy. Its features
include the ability to remove cookies, the HTTP referer field, the HTTP
user-agent field, scripts on the page, and objects, altering the
user-agent string to whatever you please, and tunnelling your proxied
traffic through a second proxy.
Changes: A new option "Encode URLs" that helps get around certain types of
filters. It captures both standard HTML and Javascript URLs and encodes
them for every request sent by the client. Proxy variables have been
altered to have a prefix of a random string instead of "proxy_". This
ensures no conflicts with the proxied site, and also helps for some types
of filters. Meta tag's "http-equiv" for "Set-Cookie" support has been
added. Moderate code cleanup and rearrangement.

[067] - re2c 0.10.0
by Marcus Boerger (http://freshmeat.net/users/helly25/)
Sun, Feb 19th 2006 01:15
Software Development :: Code Generators
About: re2c is a tool for writing fast and flexible lexers. Unlike other
such tools, it concentrates solely on generating efficient code for
matching regular expressions. This make it suitable for a wide variety of
applications. The generated scanners approach hand-crafted ones in terms
of size and speed.
Changes: This is the first version of re2c that comes with support for
Unicode scanner generation. That is, re2c can now handle two byte input.
Furthermore, re2c lets you control indendation of the generated code and
no longer produces unreachable code or unused labels. This makes the code
much easier to understand and debug. However, a few .re files might rely
on the generation of an unused and trustable start label, "yy0" to be
precise. To circumvent this problem, re2c allows you to specify your own
start label using in-place configuration.
