[001] - actkbd 0.2
by Theodoros V. Kalamatianos (http://freshmeat.net/users/nyb/)
Mon, Mar 6th 2006 17:37
System
Utilities
About: actkbd is a simple daemon that binds commands to keyboard events
(e.g. multimedia keys). It recognises key combinations and can handle
press, repeat, and release events. Currently it only supports the Linux
2.6 event interface, but the platform-specific code is well contained and
support for additional platforms can be added with minimal or no changes
to the rest of the code.
Changes: Command attributes were added to allow for sequential key
combinations. Keyboard grabbing is now supported to make non-special keys
(letters, numbers, etc.) more usable.

[002] - AgileTrack 06.a
by X10Gimli (http://freshmeat.net/users/x10gimli/)
Mon, Mar 6th 2006 07:51
Information Management :: Issue Tracking
Software Development :: Bug Tracking
About: AgileTrack is an agile development planning and iteration tracking
tool. It assists in the creation and life-cycle of iterations, projects,
stories, tasks, and bugs. It is focused on simplicity and practicality.
Its interface is designed to be useful specifically for software
developers on small development teams with rapidly-changing priorities and
requirements. Its primary interface for developers is geared toward
availability, speed, and purpose. It is flexible and minimalistic with
respect to the data that is required for records. It is designed to be
compatible with agile development methodologies, particularly Extreme
Programming.
Changes: New features in this version focus on improving sub-task
life-cycle and project tracking. Subtasks can now be assigned to users and
have descriptions and comments. Projects have been split into
Product/Component/Project records which now have state, priority,
time-estimate, and parent project fields. Projects can be related in a
tree structure for better hierarchical relationship. Issue tree tables are
available for drill-down based on project tree, iterations, etc. Among
other things, release records, defect severity and frequency, and user
role assignment were added.

management system. It features bookmark friendly URLs, easy search with
browsing by category, article submission, and a professional and
attractive interface. It is intended to be used to store, manage, and
update article content for a knowledge base, but is very customizable and
enables any number of creative uses.
Changes: This release includes changes to the navigation for the user and
kbadmin sections. The kbadmin header and footer have been updated and the
suggest category has been fixed to use the new database file.

[004] - Anyterm 1.1.13 (Development)
by Phil Endecott (http://freshmeat.net/users/endecotp/)
Mon, Mar 6th 2006 13:04
Communications :: WAP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals
About: Anyterm provides a terminal emulator on a Web page using Javascript
and an Apache module. The module forks a shell and communicates with the
script using XMLHTTP on port 80, or securely using SSL. This provides you
with shell access to your machine from almost any Web browser, even when
firewalls are in the way. Experimental features include support for WAP
browsers and standalone operation without Apache, and the my.anyterm.org
service provides access without the need to install anything on your
servers.
Changes: This release improves the build process, which should make
installation simpler for many users. If you already have a working
installation there is no point in upgrading.

[006] - Asymptote 1.00
by John Bowman (http://freshmeat.net/users/jcbowman/)
Mon, Mar 6th 2006 02:53
Education
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based
Scientific/Engineering
About: Asymptote is a powerful descriptive vector graphics language for
technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like
syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting
that LaTeX does for scientific text. Asymptote is a programming language as
opposed to just a graphics program. It can exploit the best features of
script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI) methods.
High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language itself,
allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.
Changes: A pen bounds error was fixed. A bug in the linear equations
solver was fixed. Images now transform properly. The legend argument of
draw accepts a Label. An interface to the movie15 package for embedding
external objects was added. A bug where nonsolid pen types were ignored
was fixed. A segmentation fault in format was fixed. A bug in the 2D graph
tick selection routines was fixed; xlimits and ylimits no longer crop data
by default. For consistency, the "includegraphics" labeling function was
renamed to "graphic".

[007] - Bacula 1.38.6-beta3-20060304 (Development)
by Lev_Arris (http://freshmeat.net/users/LevArris/)
Mon, Mar 6th 2006 03:17
System :: Archiving :: Backup
About: Bacula is a set of programs that allow you to manage the backup,
recovery, and verification of computer data across a network of different
computers. It is based on a client/server architecture and is efficient
and relatively easy to use, while offering many advanced storage
management features that make it easy to find and recover lost or damaged
files.
Changes: The scratch tape is used if it is in the autochanger and no other
volumes are available. A new virtual disk autochanger was added. Restore
tree building is faster and uses less memory. A race condition in
multiple-drive autochangers where both drives want the same volume was
fixed. Writable FIFOs now work for restore. ACLs are now checked in all
dot commands. A bug where a drive was always reserved if a restore job
failed while in the reservation process was fixed. Some other minor fixes
were made.

Mon, Mar 6th 2006 03:07
Communications :: Email
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: The Blue Frog is a client application that is a part of the Blue
Security Do Not Intrude Registry solution. It enables clients to easily
submit opt-out requests to spammers. Opt-out requests are published by
Blue Security based on human analyzed reported spam that originates from
user reports. The application is scriptable through Lua scripts using a
glue library. Effort has been put into implementing a sandbox Lua
environment that is isolated from any local IO related operations on the
running machine.
Changes: The user's rank is now obtained from Blue Security. A flexible
messaging system was added. Auto-registration is done on the first run (in
Win32 only). A download and update feature is available in the Win32
version. The Blue username is now displayed in the title of dialogs (Win32
only). A formatting error in logs was fixed. The Curl DNS cache is properly
managed when a repeating communication error occurs. Curl properly handles
compressed content with a prior authorization negotiation.

About: DBSight is a J2EE search platform for rapidly developing search
engines on any relational database. It's scalable, fast to develop, and
fast to search. It runs on any JDBC-supported relational database. It can
work on any new systems or old legacy systems that need full-text search,
without changing existing systems. It's based on the high-performance
Lucene API. It has a Web UI for configuring data retrieval, content
indexing, and displaying templates. It can also serve as a Lucene learning
tool or RAD tool. The search results are rendered by Velocity as HTML, XML
Web service, CSV, or anything you want.
Changes: This release adds noResults.vm to templates to display search
instructions to end users. It will only search indexes with non-negative
displayOrder in multi search. It shuts down indexing when there is a JDBC
driver mismatch. It corrects error messages when a wildcard search matches
too many records. It fixes a CJKAnalyzer highlighting problem when
searching on ID.

makes sure the datafiles remain readable outside the Wiki, and eases the
creation of structured texts. All data is stored in plain text files, so
no database is needed
Changes: This release adds management interfaces for users, plugins, and
configuration. Major code cleanups were done regarding JavaScript
unobstrusiveness and XHTML strictness. The toolbar was redesigned and
enhanced. Wildcard based partial searches are possible now. The
authentication backend mechanism was completely rewritten. Page locks are
refreshed via AJAX background calls. Romanization support, hierarchical
breadcrumbs, and Google Sitemaps were added. This release also fixes a
minor XSS problem, so upgrading is recommended.

About: DVD-Baker generates a DVD consisting of menus and slideshows from a
picture collection stored in a Menalto Gallery G2 Web site or in a locally
stored directory tree. Each "leaf" album (an album that does not contain
sub-albums) is used to create a slideshow. The slideshows (and any
DVD-ready MPEG videos) are made accessible on the DVD with menus that
follow the structure of the Web site or directories. Extra features
include random or sequential autoplay. Since dvd-slideshow is used to
produce each slideshow, it supports effects such as crossfades, crops, and
the Ken Burns effect.
Changes: Changes include the ability to bake a directory tree, support for
both v2.0 and v2.1 Menalto Gallery2 Web sites, improved MIME type handling,
updated documentation, expanded recipe syntax, vastly improved execution
time, and much more. Debian, Red Hat, Slackware, and tarball packages are

Mon, Mar 6th 2006 10:25
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers
About: GTK Photo Gallery is an album to manage small and medium-sized
photograph collections. It allows quick management by processing multiple
files together. Rotate, delete, move, and manage descriptions can be done
for all files in one directory at once. It is possible to upload pictures
to an online laboratory to order prints. GTK Photo Gallery is implemented
with GTK2-Perl, and due to the lack of a Web server in between, it is much
faster than CGI-based scripts. It uses the same directory structure as
(and can be used together with) My Photo Gallery (a set of CGI scripts).
It is possible to export (and import) an Album into 700 MB large parts for
easy CD backup, including static HTML pages to navigate the CD. This can
also be used to create a simple album for the Web.
Changes: Support for UTF-8 file- and directory names was added. New

by Joao Eriberto Mota Filho (http://freshmeat.net/users/eriberto_mota/)
Mon, Mar 6th 2006 00:36
About: HLBR is a fork of the Hogwash project. It is an IPS (Intrusion
Prevention System) that can filter packets directly in layer 2 of the OSI
model (so the machine doesn't need an IP address). Detection of
malicious/anomalous traffic is done by rules based in signatures, and the
user can add more rules. It is an efficient and versatile IPS, and can be
used as a bridge to honeypots and honeynets. Since it doesn't make use of
the operating system's TCP/IP stack, it can be "invisible" to network
access and attackers. The HLBR is a firewall element.
Changes: Regular expression tests were implemented with tcp regex and udp
regex. The tcp listcontent and tcp listnocase tests were added to read
file lists. New rules using regular expressions were added. Detection
failures in nocase and content were corrected.

[057] - mpt-status 1.1.6
by Roberto Nibali (http://freshmeat.net/users/rnibali_ratz/)
Mon, Mar 6th 2006 10:40
System :: Diagnostics
System :: Hardware
System :: Monitoring
About: mpt-status is a query tool for accessing the running configuration
and status of LSI SCSI HBAs. It is a heavily modified version of the
original mpt-status-1.0 tool written by Matt Braithwaite. It allows you to
monitor the health and status of your RAID setup. Currently supported and
tested HBAs are the LSI 1030 SCSI RAID storage controller and LSI SAS1064
SCSI RAID storage controller. Since the tool uses the MPI (message passing
interface), chances are high that the basic information regarding RAID
status will be available for all LSI-based controllers.
Changes: The previously released version contained debugging information
in the default output, which would cause a lot of havoc for system
administrators who have scripted their mpt-status output for monitoring
reasons on basic output format assumption. This version reverts this
erroneously added debugging output. You need to upgrade if you have used
the 1.1.5 release.

Mon, Mar 6th 2006 10:31
Internet
About: MySpeed measures download and upload connection speeds by timing
actual data transfers between your server and end-users. Server-side
bandwidth test reports provide visibility to the consistency of bandwidth
delivery, key information for managing VoIP, Web application, and help
desk environments. Max pause, the longest pause recorded during the data
download, and round trip time are also reported. The professional version
adds a server-side repository which logs the speed test results, session
ID tracking, and a continuous testing option for further analysis.
Changes: This release includes an improved update process for faster and
easier implementation of product updates.

[062] - Natrium Engine beta01
by natrium (http://freshmeat.net/users/pbrisco/)
Mon, Mar 6th 2006 22:51
Database :: Front-Ends
About: The Natrium Engine tracks groups of parts by letting users define
the relationships between parts. Users create definitions for
configurations and parts. These are joined together to form a rule for
parts in configurations. When a part is removed from or added to a
configuration, all children of that part are also transferred. This has
special applications to "living" inventory, or groups of disparate parts
that need to be tracked as a group rather than individually. For example,
if a carburetor is made a separate configuration from an engine, then when
removing it all parts associated with the carburetor are also removed. A
facility is provided for tracking user-defined line-item costs of each
part.

[063] - NNTPCache 3.0.2
by Julian Assange (http://freshmeat.net/users/proff/)
Mon, Mar 6th 2006 02:41
Communications :: Usenet News

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: NNTPCache is a proxy cache newsgroups. It's like squid for NNTP.
NNTPCache efficiently executes on the localhost, pretending to be an NNRP
news-reading server while, in fact, it passes certain NNTP commands
through to real news-servers based on various pattern-matching rules.
NNTPCache takes the output from those servers and caches, indexes, and
merges them. The next time such information is requested it is sent
directly from the cache without consulting the remote servers. It uses a
sophisticated shared memory model and can serve very large reader
populations.

He or she can install packages in the remote nodes, list pending updates,
roll security upgrades, and update the remote machine's APT package cache.
Changes: This release is intended as a prototype only and should not be

implements the abilities to install packages in the remote nodes, to list
pending updates in the nodes, to roll security upgrades to nodes, and to
update the remote nodes' package cache.

Mon, Mar 6th 2006 17:36
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
About: The Python Macromolecular Library (mmLib) is a software toolkit and
library of routines for the analysis and manipulation of macromolecular
structural models, implemented in the Python programming language. It is
accessed via a layered, object-oriented application programming interface,
and provides a range of useful software components for parsing mmCIF, PDB,
and MTZ files, a library of atomic elements and monomers, an
object-oriented data structure describing biological macromolecules, and
an OpenGL molecular viewer. The mmLib data model is designed to provide
easy access to the various levels of detail needed to implement high-level
application programs for macromolecular crystallography, NMR, modeling, and
visualization. This includes specialized classes for proteins, DNA, amino
acids, and nucleic acids.
Changes: The mmLib sub-modules have all been re-factored into a single
directory layout, and some modules have been renamed. In all modules, the
use of from SomeModule import * has been eliminated, and all imports are
now fully specified to reduce name space pollution. The array library used
for vectors and matrices has also changed. Numeric Python has been replace

[085] - QjackCtl 0.2.20
by Rui Nuno Capela (http://freshmeat.net/users/rncbc/)
Mon, Mar 6th 2006 03:23
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
About: QjackCtl is a simple Qt application to control the JACK sound
server daemon, specifically for the Linux Audio Desktop infrastructure. It
is written in C++ around the Qt3 toolkit for X11, most exclusively using Qt
Designer. It provides a simple GUI dialog for setting several JACK daemon
parameters, which are properly saved between sessions, and a way to
control of the status of the audio server daemon. With time, this
primordial interface has become richer by including an enhanced patchbay
and connection control features.
Changes: Server path setting now accepts custom command line parameters.
Internal XRUN callback notification statistics and reporting have been
changed to be a bit less intrusive. Connections and patchbay line coloring
has changed just slightly. A new patchbay socket forwarding feature was
added: any patchbay socket can now be set to have all its connections
replicated (i.e. forwarded) to another one, which will behave actively as
a clone of the former.

[092] - RIFE 1.4
by Geert Bevin (http://freshmeat.net/users/gbevin/)
Mon, Mar 6th 2006 02:51
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: RIFE offers an alternative approach to web application development
and design. It builds upon the Java platform, but offers all required
tools and APIs to implement and perform all common Web site related tasks
in a fast, intuitive, and consistent manner. RIFE is composed out of a
large collection of modular parts, including a Web application engine,
integrated Web continuations, a customizable multi-format template engine,
support for template content transformation, and more.
Changes: Transparent meta data merging has been implemented, which is a
creative solution to keeping POJOs pure and still make it possible to
declare dynamic meta data in plain Java. Other highlights of this release
are: new (X)HTML template tag syntaxes, experimental Ajax support with DWR
integration, embedded element priorities, strict pathinfo mapping,
deprecated CmfProperty and CmfValidation, flowlink-specific datalinks,
mail queue support for authentication and SSL, support for setting
reflexive outputs and globalvars across submissions, and several bugfixes.

[094] - runit 1.4.0 (Development)
by Gerrit Pape (http://freshmeat.net/users/pape/)
Mon, Mar 6th 2006 10:22
System :: Boot :: Init
About: runit is a cross-platform Unix init scheme with service
supervision; a replacement for sysvinit and other init schemes. It runs on
GNU/Linux, *BSD, Mac OS X, and Solaris, and can easily be adapted to other
Unix operating systems. runit implements a simple three-stage concept.
Stage 1 performs the system's one-time initialization tasks. Stage 2
starts the system's uptime services (via the runsvdir program). Stage 3
handles the tasks necessary to shutdown and halt or reboot.
Changes: The runsvctrl, runsvstat, svwaitdown, and svwaitup programs are
no longer being installed; the functionality of these programs has been
incorporated into the sv program. The documentation now suggests to put
service directories by default into the /etc/sv/ directory, and a list of
frequently asked questions with answers has been added. The chpst program
understands a new option -d to limit memory of the data segment per
process.

[105] - Template Interface Engine 0.8+
by Muhamad Zakaria (http://freshmeat.net/users/muhamadzakaria/)
Mon, Mar 6th 2006 00:55
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: Template Interface Engine is a template engine which interfaces
back-end PHP code with HTML code in separate files. This class implements
a template engine that uses regular expressions to locate placeholder
marks. The class supports template loops and uses event driven callback
functions to set variables inside the loop sections. Outside loop
sections, the variable values can be set directly. It also supports
if-elseif-else sections, and works recursively. It may handle multiple
templates.
Changes: IF-ELSEIF-ELSE blocks and LOOP blocks are now supported.
Multi-template files can be handled as header, body, and footer. The
output can be sent to stdout, to a file, or as string (by using _PIPE
mode). The section works recursively. A class for PHP4 users was added.
See sample3.php and sample4.php for a review of how to use it. The sample

[113] - Vstr string library 1.0.15
by Nevyn (http://freshmeat.net/users/nevyn/)
Mon, Mar 6th 2006 22:36
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Vstr is a safe and fast string library for C. It is designed for
network communication. Its design uses chunks of ptr+length data, so
adding, substituting, and deleting data are all fast operations. This
model also allows it to do automatic referencing for mmap() areas of
memory. Shortcut APIs are included to mmap() a file into a Vstr string,
and read()/write() data to/from a Vstr string. Another big feature of the
library is a POSIX and ISO 9899:1999 compliant printf() like function,
which can also be extended with user supplied formatters that are gcc
warning compatible. The total API is over 280 functions, but laid out in a
easy to remember manner, including data parsing functions, a
non-destructive split() function, and conversion functions (among others).
Changes: Bytemap functions were added to accelerate parsing. Custom
formatters were sped up with a hash. Workarounds were added for a hidden
Linux UIO 2GB limit and GCC 4.x symbol aliasing brain damage. Solaris
build fixes were made along with a fix for a problem with loading
zero-sized files with vstr_sc_*_file() and a couple of other minor
problems.

both rich user experiences and a simple programming model. ZK includes an
AJAX-based event-driven engine to automate interactivity, a rich set of
XUL and XHTML components to enrich usability, and a markup language to
design user interfaces without programming.
Changes: The local drag-and-drop effect was improved. An API to ease
accessing the Grid cell was added. Overriding component definition is
supported in lang-addon.xml. Component lang-addon.xml now can be specified
