[001] - actkbd 0.2.2
by Theodoros V. Kalamatianos (http://freshmeat.net/users/nyb/)
Tue, Mar 7th 2006 10:31
System
Utilities
About: actkbd is a simple daemon that binds commands to keyboard events
(e.g. multimedia keys). It recognises key combinations and can handle
press, repeat, and release events. Currently it only supports the Linux
2.6 event interface, but the platform-specific code is well contained and
support for additional platforms can be added with minimal or no changes
to the rest of the code.
Changes: This release can inject keyboard events back to the input layer.
The keyboard LEDs can be manipulated from within the daemon. More
configuration fine tuning attributes are available.

[002] - AfterStep 2.2.1 (Stable)
by Vaevictus (http://freshmeat.net/users/vaevictus/)
Tue, Mar 7th 2006 10:24
Desktop Environment :: Window Managers
About: AfterStep is a Window Manager for X which started by emulating the
NeXTSTEP look and feel, but which has been significantly altered according
to the requests of various users. Many adepts will tell you that NeXTSTEP
is not only the most visually pleasant interface, but also one of the most
functional and intuitive out there. AfterStep aims to incorporate the
advantages of the NeXTSTEP interface, and add additional useful features.
Changes: GTK and KDE application colorization is disabled by default.
There has been quite a bit of code review, including fixing a couple of
elusive segfaults and crashing X more than once. A segfault in application
icon handling has been fixed. Window title handling has been fixed
(Unicode). Several more bugs have been fixed.

[003] - And-httpd 0.99.7
by Nevyn (http://freshmeat.net/users/nevyn/)
Tue, Mar 7th 2006 03:23
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
About: And-httpd is an HTTP server that maps URLs to files. In other
words, in can take an incoming URL and map it to a file in a number of
ways (for example, according to content type or language). It can also do
authentication or IP based ACLs. It cannot do CGI or other kinds of code
execution. It cannot even dynamically create directory listings (although
it comes with external tools to do so automatically, and to create a
"status page"). It currently has a $2000 "security guarantee" against
remote attacks.
Changes: This release added I/O limiting, a status page, optimizations for
CPU usage, bugfixes, and code cleanups. The HTTP/0.9 protocol can now be
turned off. Syslog configuration and X-Moz header configuration were
added. text/plain redirects can now be used and vary header calculations
can be ignored. Multi-step configuration of strings and numbers was added.
An [else] test was implemented for matches.

by aquamaniac (http://freshmeat.net/users/aquamaniac/)
Tue, Mar 7th 2006 03:33
Office/Business :: Financial
Software Development :: Libraries
About: AqBanking is a modular and generic interface to online banking
tasks, financial file formats (import/export) and bank/country/currency
information. It provides frontends for Qt, KDE, GTK, and console.
AqBanking uses backend plugins to actually perform the online tasks. HBCI,
OFX DirectConnect, YellowNet, GeldKarte, and DTAUS discs are currently
supported. AqBanking is used by GnuCash, KMyMoney,and QBankManager.
Changes: This release fixes some bugs concerning the importation and
creation of HBCI users and problems with the YellowNet backend. The build
system and API were cleaned up (including documentation). Updating is
recommended. Applications will need to be recompiled due to changes in the
API, but this version is source compatible with the previous release.

System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration
About: Argo is a monitoring system for the Xen hyperviser, comprised of a
network server which runs upon your Xen host and any number of clients
which connect to that server over a socket. Supplied with the server are
two clients: a simple Web-based client and a graphical desktop client. The
clients allow you to start, stop, pause, or query available Xen virtual
instances.
Changes: This release updates the network protocol so the 'dmesg' output
of the Xen host may be queried remotely. The existing clients were updated
with minor bugfixes, and a new console client was added to the
distribution.

[006] - BalanceNG 1.468
by Thomas Obermair (http://freshmeat.net/users/thomasobermair/)
Tue, Mar 7th 2006 10:29
Internet
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: BalanceNG is a modern software IP load balancing solution. It is
small, fast, and easy to use and setup. It offers session persistence,
different distribution methods (Round Robin, Random, Hash, and Least
Resource) and a customizable UDP health check agent in source code. It
supports VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol) to set up high
availability configurations on multiple nodes. It integrates pcap packet
dumping for debugging purposes and allows the implementation of a
"transparent forensic logging bridge". It supports "all service load
balancing" based on client IP address which allows almost any protocol to
be supported. It supports single legged operations, either on IP-Level or
as DSR (Direct Server Return / "nPath") configuration.
Changes: VRRP tracking has been introduced, allowing degradation of VRRP
priority (and controlled failover) on local resource failure. The
availability of the default gateway can be checked by ARP and ICMP ECHO
(ping) health checks; consequently, the gateway now has its own status of
"operational" or "down" (if specified). The new configuration commands
are: "gateway arp", "gateway ping", "gateway trackval", "target n
trackval", and "vrrp tracking". A new informational command "show gateway"
has been added to display the current status of the gateway. The manual has
been updated to 1.468.0.

System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
About: Blitz is an open source JavaSpaces implementation designed to ease
development and deployment of JavaSpaces technology. It is Jini 2.0
enabled, and uses established VM principles. It also implements smart
indexing, tuneable persistence, and active/passive lease cleanup. It is
designed with experimentation and expansion in mind.
Changes: The installer scripts for the dashboard and Phoenix were fixed.
UnicastLookup in ServiceLocator now works. Memory consumption in the
presence of large numbers of blocked operations was reduced. The Db/Java
bundle was upgraded to 2.1.30. A deadlock in event generation with queue
bounding enabled was fixed. Rio configuration was upgraded for Jini 2.1.

[008] - Campsite 2.5.0
by Campware (http://freshmeat.net/users/campware/)
Tue, Mar 7th 2006 10:28
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: Campsite is a multilingual content management system (CMS) for news
Web sites. Campsite's user interface was built with the end user
(journalist, editor, publisher) in mind, and it can be configured to suit
different profiles of end users. Campsite follows the print-newspaper
publishing paradigm, so it structures sites by default as Publications >
Issues > Sections > Articles. Campsite works best for medium-to-large-size
online news publications, but it is capable of handling nimbler sites too.
Changes: Journalists can file articles without needing to learn the site's
publication/issue/section hierarchy. Articles can be set up to include
drop-down fields containing a list of topics. Topics can be translated,
and the Topics screen has undergone a serious usability redesign. The home
page has a new layout. The subscription feature has been further refined to
allow for subscriptions by language (e.g. access to the Sports section can
be controlled or billed for separately for English and Spanish readers).

by Christopher Oezbek (http://freshmeat.net/users/oezi/)
Tue, Mar 7th 2006 03:31
Games/Entertainment :: Arcade
Games/Entertainment :: Puzzle Games
Scientific/Engineering :: Neuroscience
About: ChangeBlindness is a small game that demonstrates the change
blindness phenomenon. The effect shows that our brains have a low-level
(i.e. subconscious) change detection capability that can be disabled
pretty easily (for instance, with a flicker of around 100ms). The game
illustrates this using an increasing number of icons, one of which will
change during a flicker. The goal of the game is to find the changing icon
as quickly as possible.
Changes: The icon count can no longer be reduced below 0. A cheat mode
that doesn't record high scores was added. Better documentation was
provided.

[015] - dobackup.pl 4.35
by Ian E. Morgan (http://freshmeat.net/users/imorgan/)
Tue, Mar 7th 2006 10:30
System :: Archiving :: Backup
About: dobackup.pl is a flexible Perl script to handle unattended
incremental backups of multiple servers. It handles multiple media sets
with automatic media preparation and rotation, configurable
'what-to-backup', global per-host exclusion patterns, and user settable
'don't-back-this-up' metafiles. Its design goal is zero-maintenance,
nothing to do except change the media when told.
Changes: This release adds a MediaSet config item IgnoreFreeSpace. For
some NFS-based destinations where the destination directory is really a
submount on the server, the actual free space cannot be reliably found, so
this release will not issue warnings about insufficient free space for
subsequent backups when this flag is set.

Tue, Mar 7th 2006 03:17
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: FlatGallery is a simple image gallery that does not require a
database backend. Users simply add images to a directory, and the system
recognises this and produce thumbnails that are cached for later use.
Producing thumbnails only when images are added lessens the strain on
servers that produce thumbnails "on the fly" for every image, every time
the page is refreshed. It also deletes thumbnails when the image is
removed from the image directory. Nearly all aspects of the program are
customizable, including the number of images per page, thumbnail size, and
what to display.
Changes: An issue with integrating the gallery into existing PHP pages and
errors was fixed. All instances of die() were replaced with "return false".
All errors now return a false statement along with an error message
contained in $gal->error. The image directory no longer needs to be chmod
0777. 0755 is sufficient.

About: GNU gengetopt takes a simple description of arguments and
generates a C function that uses the GNU getopt_long(3) function to
parse and validate the options. It is perfect if you are too lazy to
write all that is required to call getopt_long(3), or need to use many
options. The generated code also works with autoconf or automake.
Changes: A --full-help option is generated, which also shows hidden
options. Multiple parsers can be linked into the same executable. When
invoking getopt_long, any pointers to previously scanned command lines are
discarded. A bug in the generation of help strings that might cause a seg

[027] - InteLib 0.5.72
by Danya Alexyevsky (http://freshmeat.net/users/dendik/)
Tue, Mar 7th 2006 23:10
Software Development :: Libraries
About: InteLib is a library of C++ classes which lets you do Lisp
programming within your C++ programs even without any additional
preprocessing, without all those calling conventions. You can write code
which is accepted by a C++ compiler while thinking in a "Lisp mode", and
the code you write will look much like Lisp code, although it will be pure
C++.
Changes: The main reason to release now was a serious bug in
IntelibReader. However, there are some useful enhancements as well. NILL
now supports two new commandline flags, -q (quiet) and -b (preload a
plugin). GNU readline history and completion manipulation were improved a
bit. Traditional Lisp I/O functions (princ, print, prin1, terpri, and
read) are now able to work with stdin/stdout if no stream is specified,
just like the same functions in Common Lisp.

[037] - NeatUpload 1.1.7
by Dean Brettle (http://freshmeat.net/users/brettle/)
Tue, Mar 7th 2006 13:30
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Libraries
About: NeatUpload allows ASP.NET developers to stream uploaded files to
disk and allows users to monitor upload progress. It works under Mono's
XSP/mod_mono as well as Microsoft's ASP.NET implementation and features
two custom controls. InputFile allows the user to select a file to upload
and ProgressBar displays the upload progress either inline or in a popup.
ProgressBar even allows users without JavaScript to see upload progress.
Changes: This release fixes a bug where a Brettle.Web.NeatUpload.dll built
with Visual Studio 2005 would fail when loading resources, both at run time
and design time. If you want to use a rebuilt NeatUpload-1.1.7 at design
time, you'll need to first remove all existing NeatUpload controls from
your toolbox, remove all references to the previous version of NeatUpload,
and restart Visual Studio. You can then rebuild NeatUpload and add the
resulting NeatUpload-1.1.7\bin\Brettle.Web.NeatUpload.dll to your toolbox.

Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: PHP_Application is a platform for the development of event-driven
applications in which two mechanisms of distribution of events for two
levels of abstraction accordingly are realized. The first level are
objects and their events; the second, the application and its events. The
mechanism of distribution of events of the applications supports
distribution of the directed and broadcasting events, and also provides
synchronous or asynchronous processing events. The structure of the
application represents a hierarchy of objects with various levels of
abstraction. Functionality of the application is completely defined by a
set of the objects included in the application and interaction between
them, i.e. a stream of events. The structure of the application allows you
to operate a stream of events extending downwards on hierarchy of objects.
Changes: The access rights system was added. Numerous changes were made in
the objective model of the application. Semantic loading is reduced by
classes. Dependence between objects has been reduced. Interrelations
between objects are now simplified and concentrated in one place. New
examples and the documentation were added.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: Restlet is a framework that brings the simplicity and efficiency of
the REST architectural style to Java developers. It is composed of two
parts, the Restlet API (alternative to Servlet API) and a reference
implementation (Noelios Restlet Engine). It supports all REST concepts
(resource, representation, data, connector, components, etc.) and is
suitable for both client and server REST applications. The server
connectors provided are HTTP(S), AJP (via Mortbay's Jetty or an adapter
Servlet) and the client connectors are HTTP(S), JDBC, and SMTP (via
JavaMail).
Changes: Fixes an error in the StringTemplate Javadocs: was mentioning
${end if} instead of ${end}. Doing a POST with no content with the HTTP
client connector was throwing an NPE. A test case has been added using the
RedirectRestlet for proxying purposes. Default UniformCall now resets the
"handerPath" when "resourceRef" is changed. Checks have been added to
UnformCall.setHandlerPath to prevent the setting of invalid paths.

About: white_dune is a graphical VRML97 editor, simple NURBS/Superformula
3D modeller and animation tool. VRML97 (Virtual Reality Modeling Language)
is the ISO standard for displaying 3D data over the Web via browser plugins
("HTML for realtime 3D"). It has support for animation, real-time
interaction, and multimedia (images, movies, and sounds). white_dune can
read, create and display VRML97 files and let the user change the
scenegraph/fields. It also has support for stereoscopic view via
"quadbuffer"-capable stereo visuals, and support for 3D input devices like
a joystick, spaceball, or magnetic tracker.
Changes: The ScriptEditor code has been simplified. A problem with a
workaround when writing NAN/INFINITE floating points has been fixed.
External object editing of ImageTexture, MovieTexture, and AudioClip has
been added. Handles for the Coordinate node have been added.

Text Processing :: General
About: WP Clipart is an attempt to make a useful clipart package of public
domain images for use in word processors. Packages also include a
cross-platform viewer/editor written with Python/wxWidgets. It contains
about 6,900 pieces of non-transparent PNG clip art, which is exactly what
AbiWord prints and scales well. It has been optimized for use in all word
processors (scaled down, midtones expanded for inkjet print quality, etc.)
It is suitable for documents as well as Web graphics, but also has business
application (credit cards, promo graphics) and educational uses (pictures
of all US presidents, all country flags, all US states, historical
figures, and a sign language alphabet).
Changes: The viewer's GUI was tweaked. Clipart was added. Binary builds
are now provided for Ubuntu 5.10, Slackware 10.2, and MS Windows. The
collection is now comprised of 7800 images in 367 directories.

[064] - YXA 0.91pre1
by Fredrik Thulin (http://freshmeat.net/users/fredrikthulin/)
Tue, Mar 7th 2006 03:25
About: YXA is a SIP stack and a set of SIP server applications written in
Erlang/OTP. The SIP stack is RFC3261 compliant. Among the features
implemented are SIP registrar, SIP router, forking, CPL, IPv6, TLS, ENUM,
PSTN gateway access control and modular user database backends. The main
goal of the project is to create a robust SIP server platform that can
scale to tens of thousands of users, be interoperable through standards
compliance, and still have short time-to-market for new features due to
the use of a high level language.
Changes: The implementation updated according to RFC4320, which updates
RFC3261 with regard to non-INVITE transactions. Temporary blacklisting of
unreachable destinations was added along with basic SIP dialog support in
the SIP stack.

will manage when which object and which internal data of that object is
sent to whom. It uses bitstreams as a native datatype and thus is very
bandwidth efficient. Support for filetransfers and many other things is
included.
Changes: Fixes sending of node events to connection groups.
