[001] - adevs 1.4
  by Ack (http://freshmeat.net/users/ack/)
  Wed, Mar 8th 2006 22:05

Scientific/Engineering
Software Development :: Libraries

About: adevs is a C++ library for developing discrete event simulations
based on the Parallel DEVS and DSDEVS formalisms.

Changes: This version corrects the example code and documentation to
reflect a subtle, but in some instances significant, change in the
semantics of the hold method. If had sudden unexpected difficulties with
version 1.3.4, you should update your code based on the new documentation
or revert to version 1.3.3.

[002] - Aeskuap 0.2.1
  by Alexander Pipelka (http://freshmeat.net/users/pipelka/)
  Wed, Mar 8th 2006 08:49

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers
Scientific/Engineering :: Medical Science Apps.

About: Aeskulap is a medical image viewer. It is able to load a series of
special images stored in the DICOM format for review. It is able to query
and fetch DICOM images from archive nodes (also called PACS) over the
network. The goal of this project is to create a full open source
replacement for commercially available DICOM viewers. It is based on
gtkmm, glademm, and gconfmm and designed to run under Linux. Ports of
these packages are available for different platforms. It should be quite
easy to port It to any platform were these packages are available.

Changes: Support for lossy image compression was added. User-defined
window-level presets can now be defined. Some major bugs have been fixed.

[004] - anyfs-tools 0.83.3
  by unDEFER (http://freshmeat.net/users/undefer/)
  Wed, Mar 8th 2006 11:58

System :: Filesystems
System :: Recovery Tools

About: anyfs-tools allows you to recover and convert filesystems while
using minimal extra disk space. Unlike other recovery tools, anyfs-tools
doesn't copy all the files found on other disks (or partitions), but only
saves information about the location of the file blocks to an external
inode table. After recovery, a user may mount the damaged filesystem with
anyfs and the external inode table and then interact with all recovered
files with any program.

Changes: 2 bugs in build_it were fixed: the first appeared on filesystems
that didn't return the correct f_files value in the statfs structure. The
second bug appered another filesystem was mounted in the filesystem tree;
using the f_fsid field of the statfs structure in Linux is bad idea. The
anysurrect-plugins(3) manual page with anysurrect API descriptions was
added.

[014] - bit 0.1.27
  by Rick Vinyard (http://freshmeat.net/users/rvinyard/)
  Wed, Mar 8th 2006 00:48

Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Widget Sets

About: bit is a library that makes it easier to dynamically manipulate
data buffers containing fields that do not have octet (byte) boundaries.
An example is the IP header, which is generally dealt with at compile time
via bit fields in a structure. A key feature of the bit library is support
for loading data formats described in XML files and dynamically parsing
those fields at run time. This library was initially created to support
reading various kinds of robotic device I/O (IR sensors, motors), but it
has also been used for run time parsing of IP, TCP, UDP, and RTP headers.

Changes: Mainly cleanup and restructuring changes were done. These include
a long overdue cleanup of configure.in and associated files. The
documentation now installs into $prefix/share/doc/bit-{version}.

  Wed, Mar 8th 2006 01:40

Software Development :: Libraries

About: BitEvolution is an easy-to-use client/server application that you
can use to keep your distributed application up to date. Modeled after the
Apache ANT project, it is a task-based application intended to eliminate
the work required to write, test, and debug a home-grown update
application. Your distributed application does not have to be written in
Java to take advantage of BitEvolution.

Changes: The BitEvolution client and server were updated to load the
default configuration files from the working directory if it was not
specified on the command line. The Updater class was updated to select the
first available port from the range of 5002-5999 if one is not specified.
The UpdateAnalyzer was updated to use the MD5 file comparison when
determining if a file has been updated instead of the date and time stamp
on the file.

[020] - Common UNIX Printing System 1.2b1
  by Michael Sweet (http://freshmeat.net/users/easysw/)
  Wed, Mar 8th 2006 16:47

Internet
Printing
Software Development :: Libraries

About: CUPS provides a portable printing layer for Unix(r)-based operating
systems. It has been developed to promote a standard printing solution for
all Unix vendors and users. CUPS provides the System V and Berkeley
command line interfaces, and uses the Internet Printing Protocol ("IPP")
as the basis for managing print jobs and queues. The Line Printer Daemon
(LPD) Server Message Block (SMB), and AppSocket (a.k.a. JetDirect)
protocols are also supported with reduced functionality. CUPS adds network
printer browsing and PostScript Printer Description ("PPD") based printing
options to support real world printing under UNIX. It includes an image
file RIP that supports printing of image files to non-PostScript printers.
A customized version of GNU Ghostscript 7.05 for CUPS called ESP
Ghostscript is available separately to support printing of PostScript
files within the CUPS driver framework. Sample drivers for Dymo, EPSON,
HP, and OKIDATA printers are included that use these filters.

Changes: This release adds over 90 changes and new features to 1.1.x,
including major enhancements to networking, browsing, the Web interface,
IPP support, the scheduler, LPD client support, localization, printer
drivers, the CUPS APIs, and scripting support.

About: Ruby/LDAP is an extension module for Ruby that provides the

API for application development described in RFC1823.

Changes: Conn#search, Conn#search2, Conn#search_ext, and Conn#search_ext2
were modified to treat LDAP_SIZELIMIT_EXCEEDED as success. After using any
of these methods, the user should check whether LDAP::Conn#err ==
LDAP::LDAP_SIZELIMIT_EXCEEDED. If true, the results set has been truncated
by the server. Previously, LDAP_SIZELIMIT_EXCEEDED would raise an exception

code has been refactored. Missing RDoc documentation has been added for

  by Kevin Lindsay (http://freshmeat.net/users/klindsay/)
  Wed, Mar 8th 2006 01:50

Utilities

About: Secure locate provides a secure way to index and quickly search for
all files on your system. GNU locate normally indexes files with the
'nobody' user so that only files accessible to everyone are indexed.
Secure Locate indexes with the 'root' user and checks the permissions and
ownership of matched files to prevent users from seeing files they do not
have access to.

Changes: The list of user defined database paths were not being parsed
correctly and has been fixed.

[094] - snake 3D 0.7
  by irush (http://freshmeat.net/users/irush/)
  Wed, Mar 8th 2006 08:02

Games/Entertainment :: Arcade

About: snake3d is a variant of the snake game (or worm game, depending on
when you were born). You are a snake in a 3D world trying to eat as many
icosahedrons as possible, which makes your tail longer. To make things
worse, there are other snakes in the world.

Changes: A simple menu interface was added for controlling game parameters
such as world selection and key configurations. The default key for
quitting is now M-q. A game can be aborted to start a new one. The speed
selection is finite. Some bugfixes were made. The original resolution
should be restored after full screen mode. A snake bend bug (rotating from
backward to right) was fixed. Mac OS X binaries are now available.

  Wed, Mar 8th 2006 00:32

Information Management :: Issue Tracking
Information Management :: Records Management
Internet :: Log Analysis

About: Splunk organizes and makes sense of any type of machine data,
including Web servers, application servers, email servers, databases, and
network devices. It uses algorithms that dynamically discover event
relationships across diverse domains of machine data and build a
searchable Web of events to trace the real behavior of running systems. A
Splunk server can optionally work with Splunk.com, allowing users in
different organizations to participate in a global troubleshooting
community and share knowledge about common events and problems while
preserving data privacy.

Changes: The new Splunk Assistant guides new users through basic
Splunking. The new report:: operator adds structured reporting. It
supports SQLite syntax, so you can use functions like count, min, and max
on your Splunk results and save report files to your desktop. The new
syslog module for Splunk Professional acts as a syslog daemon. It listens
on port 514 (or other), receives syslog events via UDP, and indexes them
into Splunk Professional. The new distributed module for Splunk
Professional listens on a TCP port. It lets Splunk index log4j and other
source types directly rather than from a file.

[100] - SVN::Web 0.45
  by Nik Clayton (http://freshmeat.net/users/nikclayton/)
  Wed, Mar 8th 2006 22:02

Software Development :: Version Control

About: SVN::Web provides a Web interface to Subversion repositories. You
can browse the tree, view history of a directory or a file, see what's
changed in a specific revision, track changes with RSS, and also view
diffs. It also tracks the branching feature (node copy) of Subversion,
so you can easily see the relationship between branches.

Changes: mod_perl2 is now supported as well as mod_perl1. Memory footprint
when browsing or viewing revisions that affected a huge number of files has
been greatly improved, in some cases by tens of megabytes. A stand-alone
Web server is now included, making it much easier to try out the interface
without making any changes to your primary Web server. The majority of
errors are now caught and display friendlier (and localised) error
messages.

[103] - TBCI 2.5.2 (Stable)
  by Kurt Garloff (http://freshmeat.net/users/garloff/)
  Wed, Mar 8th 2006 00:40

Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: TBCI is a C++ library which provides classes for Vectors, Matrices,
etc., and defines operations on them such as additions, multiplications,
etc. There are many Matrix classes providing specializations for different
sparse matrices. They all feature a similar interface. TBCI comes with an
extensive set of solvers for linear systems and an interface to lapack
libraries. It uses the temporary base class idiom, which avoids
unnecessary copying of data by having a notion of real and temporary
objects which are treated differently with respect to assignment and copy
c'tor.

Changes: This is a maintenance release that adresses some of the loose
ends of 2.5.1. Most prominently, when using the SSE2 support, it now
handles unaligned data gracefully. Other enhancements include the support
for SuperLU3 (SuperLU2 is still supported), better doxygen documentation,
and various little bugfixes and (mostly) cosmetic improvements.

  Wed, Mar 8th 2006 09:32

Games/Entertainment
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: Tournament Pool and Bracket Tracker contains everything you need to
run a tournament pool. It supports small groups or organizations who wish
to provide an NCAA basketball tournament pool without a lot of
administrative work in calculating up-to-date results and possibilities.
Though it was built with the NCAA tournament in mind, it should be able to
handle most other sport tournament pools. Once a tournament is underway,
users can keep track of their progress as the administrator for a
tournament updates the results of games. Pool adminstrators can choose
from many different scoring systems.

Changes: This is a bugfix release. It solves a number of issues that have
been preventing the successful use of 0.4.0 in various environments.
Specifically, this release reinstates support for JDK 1.4, fixes a
database upgrade issue, and fixes a bug where non-admin users didn't see
the right groups. Some user interface improvements are also included for
the MyTournament page. This upgrade is recommended for all users,
especially for the non-admin bugfix.

[112] - WiKID Strong Authentication System 1.0.4 (Firefix Extension Token

  by nowen (http://freshmeat.net/users/nowen/)
  Wed, Mar 8th 2006 13:08

Security
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Networking

About: The WiKID Strong Authentication System is a highly scalable, secure
two-factor authentication system consisting of a server, a token client,
and network clients that connect a service such as a VPN or Web page to
the WiKID server to validate one-time passcodes. The user enters their PIN
into the token client, where it is encrypted and sent to the server. If the
PIN is correct, the encryption valid, and account active, the one-time
passcode is generated, encrypted, and returned to the user. It is simple
to implement and maintain, allows users to be validated automatically,
requires no hardware tokens, has a simple API for application support via
a COM object and Java component, supports multiple domains, and supports
replication for fault tolerance and scalability.

Changes: This is a beta release of the WiKID Firefox extension. It
requires FF 1.5+,Java. The extension uses semantic Web technology. When on
a WiKID enabled Web site, a WiKID icon will appear in the lower right hand
status bar. Clicking it will invoke key generation for first time users,
the site/domain registration process for unregistered users, or a PIN
entry box for registered users. Once the PIN is entered, the one-time
passcode is automagically entered into the password field. The WiKID token
supports multiple WiKID domains, eliminating the need for a token
'keychain'.
