[012] - Command Line Content Management System 0.5
by Tjebbe (http://freshmeat.net/users/Tjebbe_/)
Thu, Mar 9th 2006 22:23
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: Command Line Content Management System (clcms, pronounced
"clickmas") is not a dynamic CMS, but a script that takes a source tree
and creates a Web site out of it. The most important design goals are:
Updates should be possible with a terminal and an editor, content is
stored in a directory tree, and there's no need for writing HTML, XML, or
the like for normal usage.
Changes: The wiki parser was rewritten, and is now (loosely) based on the
Wikipedia syntax. A little conversion tool (called
"convert_wiki_style.py") was added to make updating a little easier.

About: DACS provides enhanced access control and authentication
functionality for Apache. In addition to being a federated identity
management system (single sign-on), DACS can also be run as a command by
any program or script to make data-driven access control decisions rather
than code-driven ones.
Changes: This is primarily a bugfix and minor enhancements release. A new
cross-federation identity transfer mechanism has been added. It not only
provides support for single sign-on among DACS federations, but also
between a DACS federation and other identity management systems. See
dacs_auth_transfer(8) for details.

System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
About: Keepalived for LVS aims to add a strong and robust keepalive
facility to the Linux Virtual Server project. This project is written in C
with multilayer TCP/IP stack checks. It implements a framework based on
three family checks: Layer3, Layer4, and Layer5. This framework gives the
daemon the ability of checking a LVS server pool states.When one of the
servers in the LVS server pool is down, keepalived informs the Linux
kernel via a setsockopt call to remove this server entry from the LVS
topology. In addition, it implements a VRRPv2 stack to handle director
failover.
Changes: The SSL checker was fixed to properly support asynchronous stream
handling. The SMTP checker was fixed. The VRRP framework was extended to
use vrrp virtual_router_id as LVS syncid. The redhat spec file was fixed.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: The Midgard Components Framework (also called MidCOM) is an
advanced component architecture which extends the Midgard Web content
management framework. It provides mechanisms for building a Web site using
components without much need for writing code to glue all this together.
The administration site gets built automatically by using those
components. Goodies like a caching engine and subrequests make site
building even easier.
Changes: This version includes several new components for on-site
administration. The old administration system is being deprecated in this
process. The new Datamanager 2 library provides a powerful form- and
data-management system based on HTML_Quickform. The data storage layer was
decoupled, greatly improving performance in cases where only data and no
form is needed. Hundreds of bugs were fixed.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
About: ModSecurity is an intrusion detection and prevention engine for Web
applications (sometimes called a Web application firewall). Operating
embedded or as part of an Apache reverse proxy, it increases Web
application security, protecting Web applications from known and unknown
attacks. It is flexible and easy to configure. It monitors HTTP traffic
(including POST payloads), detects or prevents attacks, enhances logging,
performs anti-evasion, and allows administrators to create custom rules to
suit their specific needs. It excels in HTTP traffic monitoring and
just-in-time vulnerability patching.
Changes: This release introduces many new features including transaction
scoring, IP address tracking and blacklisting, IP address scoring, an RPC
API, functions (you are no longer confined to using only regular
expressions in rules), and real-time black list (RBL) support. The
response buffering code was completely re-written. It is now more robust,

Text Processing :: Linguistic
Utilities
About: Msort is a program for sorting files in sophisticated ways. Records
need not be single lines. Key fields may be selected by position, tag, or
character range. For each key, distinct exclusions, multigraphs,
substitutions, and a sort order may be defined. Comparisons may be
lexicographic, numeric, numeric string, hybrid, random, by string length,
angle, date, time, or ISO8601 timestamp. Optional keys are supported.
Msort uses the Unicode character set and provides full Unicode
case-folding. The basic program has a somewhat complex command line
interface, but may be driven by an optional GUI.
Changes: Space characters (as defined in the current locale) are now
ignored in numeric keys so as to prevent errors from arising when records
are not lines and fields are not lines and field-final whitespace is
encountered. Otherwise msort will think that the field does not consist
entirely of numbers. The configure script now checks for libtre so that
its absence will be detected prior to compilation.

[064] - System G 2.2.0
by John Lindal (http://freshmeat.net/users/jafl/)
Thu, Mar 9th 2006 23:24
Desktop Environment :: File Managers
About: Dealing with the UNIX command line, especially in order to
manipulate the file system, is one of the biggest hurdles to widespread
use of Unix and Linux. System G was written to provide a simple way to
access to the file system in the form of a graphical hierarchy of files
and folders.
Changes: An "Open Recent" menu, a "Convert to file/program" option, and a
"New Text File" option were added. Window updating was optimized to make
it work even with slow network files systems like sshfs. The code was
updated to recognize the latest options in /etc/fstab.

Software Development :: Interpreters
System :: Shells
Utilities
About: fish, the friendly interactive shell is a shell that is focused on
interactive use, discoverability, and user friendliness. The design goal
of fish is to give the user a rich set of powerful features in a way that
is easy to discover, remember, and use. fish features a user-friendly and
powerful tab-completion, including descriptions of every completion,
tab-completion of strings with wildcards, and many completions for
specific commands. It also features an extensive and discoverable help
system. A special help command gives access to all the fish documentation
in your preferred Web browser. Other features include syntax highlighting
with extensive error checking, support for the X clipboard, smart terminal
handling based on terminfo, an easy to search, no duplicates history.
Changes: This version contains various minor bugfixes, command specific
completions for xargs, patch, and cdrecord, and a smaller changes to the
translation system. A nasty bug was found in DragonFly BSD which made it
impossible to use fish on that system. A workaround has been implemented
in fish, and the bug has been fixed in DragonFly CVS.
