Software Development :: Libraries
About: The ADAPTIVE Communication Environment (ACE) is an object-oriented
(OO) C++ framework that can help you develop and deploy high-performance
software systems faster and better. ACE is especially useful for systems
that use network and/or inter-process communications and that take
advantage of multithreading. While the ACE source code is free, that's not
the only way you save money with ACE. ACE's wrappers and higher-level
patterns help you develop your software quickly and portably, helping you
to complete your projects on time and within budget.

[002] - Apache SpamAssassin 3.1.1
by Theo Van Dinter (http://freshmeat.net/users/felicity/)
Sat, Mar 11th 2006 23:04
Communications :: Email :: Filters
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules
About: Apache SpamAssassin is an extensible email filter that is used to
identify spam. Once identified, the mail can then be optionally tagged as
spam for later filtering. It provides a command line tool to perform
filtering, a client-server system to filter large volumes of mail, and
Mail::SpamAssassin, a set of Perl modules allowing Apache SpamAssassin to
be used in a wide variety of email systems.
Changes: Validation of configuration option errors was improved. Support
for the new Mail::DomainKeys API was added. Large modifications were made
to sa-update to better support rule updates. CRLF line endings are
detected and used if the input message uses them. The RPM spec file for
x86_64 platforms was fixed.

[003] - Ascii2Binary 2.10
by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
Sat, Mar 11th 2006 22:48
Utilities
About: The Ascii2Binary project consists of two complementary programs
that convert between textual and binary representations of numbers.
Ascii2Binary reads input consisting of textual representations of numbers
separated by whitespace and produces as output the binary equivalents. It
is useful for generating test data and linking programs that generate
textual output to programs that require binary input. Binary2Ascii
converts binary numbers to text. In both programs, the type and
size/precision of the input or output is selected using command line
flags.
Changes: The -l option was added to add a linefeed after every 0x0A where
the size is char, byte, short, or int; that is, the sizes where 0x0A might
represent a character. Long options are now provided if getopt_long is
available.

[008] - crypt_blowfish 1.0.1
by Solar Designer (http://freshmeat.net/users/solardiz/)
Sat, Mar 11th 2006 06:08
Security :: Cryptography
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
System :: Systems Administration
About: crypt_blowfish is an efficient implementation of a modern password
hashing algorithm, based on the Blowfish block cipher, provided via the
crypt(3) and a reentrant interface. It is compatible with bcrypt as used
in OpenBSD. It is adaptable to future processor performance improvements,
allowing you to arbitrarily increase the processing cost of checking a
password while still maintaining compatibility with your older password
hashes. The hashes it produces are several orders of magnitude stronger
than traditional Unix DES-based or FreeBSD-style MD5-based hashes.
Changes: The source code for the self-test has been modified to use
sysconf(_SC_CLK_TCK) instead of CLK_TCK when _SC_CLK_TCK is known to be
available or CLK_TCK is not (needed for glibc 2.3.90+).

Sat, Mar 11th 2006 07:10
About: Dhcpclient is an RFC 2131 compatible DHCP client for Linux 2.6. It
uses netlink for interface configuration, acts on link state messages, and
is highly customizable by calling a script on every state change to allow
updating resolv.conf. It is small, and compiles with uclibc in addition to
glibc.
Changes: This release updates the sample script, configures the default
gateway only when it is really sent, sends DHCP_OPTION_OPTIONREQ,
DHCP_OPTION_LEASE, and BOOTP_OPTION_HOSTNAME only when allowed by RFC2131,
sends a list of requested parameters (DHCP_OPTION_OPTIONREQ) to work around
broken servers, sends an ARP probe to the default gateway as unicast when
possible, and prefixes environment variables for the current config sent
to the script with DHCP_CURRENT_ instead of DHCP_.

makes this program different from similar programs is that you can
download any part of a file.
Changes: This release adds support for mirror sites, optimized BitTorrent
downloading (using only one thread for uploading), limiting uploads for
individual peers, support for the HTTPS protocol, faster BitTorrent
starting time when making a new download, a "Not checking BitTorrent
pieces" option before extracting (for faster extraction), and gracefully
stopping the CLI gracefully if interrupted.

[028] - kbarcode 2.0.0rc2 (Development)
by Dominik Seichter (http://freshmeat.net/users/domseichter/)
Sat, Mar 11th 2006 22:54
Office/Business
Printing
About: KBarcode is a barcode and label printing application for KDE 3. It
can be used to print everything from simple business cards up to complex
labels with several barcodes, such as article descriptions. KBarcode comes
with an easy-to-use WYSIWYG label designer, a setup wizard, batch import of
labels (directly from the delivery note), thousands of predefined labels,
database managment tools, and translations in many languages. Even
printing more than 10,000 labels in one go is no problem for KBarcode.
Additionally, it is a simple xbarcode replacement for the creation of
barcodes. All major types of barcodes like EAN, UPC, CODE39, and ISBN are
supported.
Changes: This release fixes saving barcodes to images, the --print
commandline option, a crash in the label editor, and the importing of
articles into batch printing mode. The build-time dependancy on GNU
Barcode was removed and the version of Barcode Writer in Pure Postrscript
was upgraded.

Sat, Mar 11th 2006 22:22
About: Klementine is a Java program for remote mail retrieval, filtering,
and forwarding. Regular expressions can be applied to the mail header
fields and thus characterize the messages as spam or ham. Identified spam
will be deleted directly on the server. It is most useful for people
retrieving their mail through dialup connections. It features retrieval
from both POP3 servers and IMAP servers, and supports delivery to SMTP
servers or STDOUT. Address information to build white lists can be
retrieved from LDAP servers.
Changes: Online help was created. A new panel that allows for watching the
log statements was added to the graphical user interface. Encoded header
fields are now decoded before being shown in the GUI.

Sat, Mar 11th 2006 23:11
System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration
About: MultiTail lets you view one or multiple files like the original
tail program. The difference is that it creates multiple windows on your
console (with ncurses). Merging of 2 or more log files is possible. It can
also use colors while displaying the log files (through regular
expressions) for faster recognition of what is important. It can also
filter lines (again with regular expressions). It has interactive menus
for editing given regular expressions and deleting and adding windows. One
can also have windows with the output of shell scripts and other software.
When viewing the output of external software, MultiTail can mimic the
functionality of tools like 'watch'.
Changes: Windows and sub-windows can now automatically be closed when idle
longer than a given time. Extended ASCII and control characters can now be
suppresed via the configuration file. "alternating colors" were added. The
status line time stamp format is now configurable. errno can now be
converted to a descriptive string and decimal values can be converted to
hex and vice versa. A color scheme for "Checkpoint Firewall-1" logging was
added.

About: Yoltia is a computer program for editing image files. It provides
the functionality to do simple changes to a large number of pictures
quickly and very comfortably and exactly. It can read and write PNG, XPM,
BMP, and JPEG. It can use and preview custom compression levels for JPEG
and PNG, create new pictures, rotate pictures with 0.5 degree accuracy,
manipulate the RGB and HSV values, and perform inverting, mirroring,
resizing, cutting, stretching and color depth conversion with usage of
different dithers. It provides many user orientated zoom modes, a
multi-document interface, quick editing of many pictures via browsing
directories or self-defined file lists, clipboard and
drag-and-drop-interaction, a slideshow, and a simple and fast GUI with
hotkey-orientated usage.
Changes: Macro functionality was added. Yoltia can now record and replay
keyboard commands.
