About: Auth MemCookie is an Apache v2 authentication and authorization
module based on a cookie authentication mechanism. The module doesn't do
authentication by itself, but verifies if the cookie used for
authentication is valid for each URL protected by the module. The module
also validates whether the authenticated user has authorization to access
the URL. Authentication is done externally through an authentication form
page, and all authentication information necessary to the module is a
stored in memcached.

Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: BalanceNG is a modern software IP load balancing solution. It is
small, fast, and easy to use and setup. It offers session persistence,
different distribution methods (Round Robin, Random, Hash, and Least
Resource) and a customizable UDP health check agent in source code. It
supports VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol) to set up high
availability configurations on multiple nodes. It integrates pcap packet
dumping for debugging purposes and allows the implementation of a
"transparent forensic logging bridge". It supports "all service load
balancing" based on client IP address which allows almost any protocol to
be supported. It supports single legged operations, either on IP-Level or
as DSR (Direct Server Return / "nPath") configuration.
Changes: A new parameter, "ipforwarding", has been introduced, enabling
layer 3 routing between all BalanceNG networks and the gateway if set to 1
("enabled"). The manual has been updated to release 1.474.0.

Tue, Mar 14th 2006 11:43
About: BLAST is a set of similarity search programs designed to explore
all of the available sequence databases regardless of whether the query is
protein or DNA. It uses a heuristic algorithm which seeks local as opposed
to global alignments, and is therefore able to detect relationships among
sequences which share only isolated regions of similarity. It can be run
locally as a full executable, and can be used to run BLAST searches
against private, local databases, or downloaded copies of the NCBI
databases. It runs on Mac OS, Win32, LINUX, Solaris, IBM AIX, SGI, Compaq
OSF, and HP- UX systems.
Changes: The flat file generator has been replaced. Minor documentation
updates. Minor bugfixes and code cleanups.

Database :: Front-Ends
Utilities
About: Caché Monitor is an SQL development tool for InterSystems database
Caché. It features an advanced SQL query editor with SQL syntax
highlighting, SQL code completion with context sensitive information about
database objects (also known as Intellisense), an SQL history buffer for
executed SQL commands, SQL code formatting, parallel queries, graphical
SQL execution plan with index and selectivity information from every used
index in the plan, SQL abbreviations, and much more.
Changes: Now can you also filter the data by entering a WHERE clause or
using the context menu to generate WHERE from selected cells. Query
Analyzer: better query canceling. The filename from a saved or opened file
is shown in the titlebar. If an open file has changed, this release asks
before closing it. Fetching table data doesn't block repainting. Frame and
Splitter positions are now saved and restored.

About: Hwrt is a shell script that crawls through a hypertext web on your
local filesystem, replicates it in a directory of your choice, and syncs
the resulting page set to a remote host. It has rudimentary support for
Apache MultiViews and access files; it cleans up stale files in local and
remote targets; and it generates plain-text sitemaps that you can submit
to Google. Hwrt tries to rely only on bare shell essentials for its core
functionality and should run on minimal installations.
Changes: A bug was fixed that prevented normal program start on fresh
installs with no cache directory. All features of the program are now

About: InteLib is a library of C++ classes which lets you do Lisp
programming within your C++ programs even without any additional
preprocessing, without all those calling conventions. You can write code
which is accepted by a C++ compiler while thinking in a "Lisp mode", and
the code you write will look much like Lisp code, although it will be pure
C++.
Changes: The top level Makefile now has an 'install' target that by
default installs the library into

a learn-by-example paradigm in mind. The developer is guided through the
creation and release of his or her own KLone application via a range of
real use case examples. It includes a GNU make based environment to
automate (cross) compilation, runtime control, and packaging of the
developed application.
Changes: Example applications were bundled: an AJAX based tester for the
FOX/Axis board, a document store and search engine, a TSP (rfc3161)
frontend, and a client authentication example.

Tue, Mar 14th 2006 14:02
System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration
About: MultiTail lets you view one or multiple files like the original
tail program. The difference is that it creates multiple windows on your
console (with ncurses). Merging of 2 or more log files is possible. It can
also use colors while displaying the log files (through regular
expressions) for faster recognition of what is important. It can also
filter lines (again with regular expressions). It has interactive menus
for editing given regular expressions and deleting and adding windows. One
can also have windows with the output of shell scripts and other software.
When viewing the output of external software, MultiTail can mimic the
functionality of tools like 'watch'.
Changes: Fixes to make it compile on Solaris 10 with the gcc package from
sunfreeware.com and the SUNStudio C compiler. The 'toggle color'-menu now
fits in its window. -s/-cS/-cT without a parameter no longer segfaults.

Tue, Mar 14th 2006 15:19
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
System :: Installation/Setup
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions :: CD-Based
About: Rocks is a complete "cluster on a CD" solution for x86 and IA64 Red
Hat Linux COTS clusters. Building a Rocks cluster does not require any
experience in clustering, yet a cluster architect will find a flexible and
programmatic way to redesign the entire software stack just below the
surface (appropriately hidden from the majority of users). Although Rocks
includes the tools expected from any clustering software stack (PBS, Maui,
GM support, Ganglia, etc), it is unique in its simplicity of installation.
Changes: The installer has been replaced by Avalance, which uses
BitTorrent to support concurrent installation. Critical tools for Rocks
have been relocated to /opt/rocks, to distinguish them from standard
versions. The underlying platform has been upgraded to Centos 4 update 2.
Improved support for partitioning, especially in NAS and Compute
appliances with multiple controllers. The removal of ganglia metrics that
cause SCSI errors. Backticks are now allowed in root passwords. Support
has been added for multi-level device naming. Improved handling of routing
tables at the cluster and appliance levels. Improved 64-bit support.

Software Development :: Embedded Systems
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: The Open RObot COntrol Software (Orocos) framework applies
software patterns in C++ to achieve real-time execution of software
components and provides an infrastructure to quickly integrate them in a
real-time operating system such as RTAI or RTLinux, although it can be
tested on normal Linux systems. It is designed to appeal to roboticists.
See the Orocos project homepage for an automated download script.
Changes: The Control Kernel was extended with a 'Process' Component, which
allows one to redefine the order in which Components are run, and a
'Kinematics' Component that tracks the robot's kinematic state in
N-degrees of freedom. The Orocos 'State Machines' can now change state on
the basis of Orocos events, which are reimplemented to be lock-free and
hard real-time. The 'Task Contexts' were given Data Flow ports and define
the new Component model for Orocos.

[042] - Query Object Framework 0.6.3
by Neil Williams (http://freshmeat.net/users/codehelp/)
Tue, Mar 14th 2006 07:53
Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Information Management
Office/Business :: Financial :: Accounting
About: QOF (Query Object Framework), provides a set of C Language
utilities for performing generic structured complex queries on a set of
data held by a set of C/C++ objects. This framework is unique in that it
does not require SQL or any database at all to perform the query. Thus, it
allows programmers to add query support to their applications without
having to hook into an SQL database.
Changes: Support was added for iteration over incoming QSF objects inside
map operations. Initial support was added for exchanging address data
between pilot-qof and gnucash (1.9.2). Unregistered objects are skipped
when processing maps. Map handling was corrected to allow reverse
operations and iteration over hierarchical objects. Debug messages were
improved, and a crash when loading a map directly was prevented. Patches
were added to allow users to skip deprecated code in libqof1 and to remove
use of config.h in a header. qof_book_merge was replaced with qofbookmerge,
and structures and functions were renamed according to libqof2 convention.

Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters
About: Seed7 is a general purpose programming language. It is a higher
level language compared to Ada, C++, and Java. In Seed7, new statements
and operators can be declared easily. Functions with type results and type
parameters are more elegant than a template or generics concept. Object
orientation is used when it brings advantages and not in places when other
solutions are more obvious. Although Seed7 contains several concepts of
other programming languages, it is generally not considered as a direct
descendant of any other programming language.
Changes: Some compiler improvements were done for arrays and structs. The
function strLit was added to support the compiler. Improvements in the bas
(basic interpreter) example program were done. For the bitset type, a
subrange generator and a for loop was added. Changes to allow line

protocols supported by WANPIPE are implemented in firmware and run on the
card. An advantage of an intelligent adapter is that it offloads the
system CPU and improves stability. By adding a Sangoma WAN/ADSL component
to the Linux kernel, one can create a powerful multi-T1/ADSL
router/firewall with proven reliability of Linux. Sangoma S-series cards
support an optional on board T1/E1 CSU/DSU that eliminates all external
components of a traditional routing solution: i.e. T1/E1 line can be
directly connected to the card. WANPIPE supports the following protocols,
ATM, ADSL, Frame Relay, PPP, MULTILINK PPP, CHDLC, X25(API), BitStreaming
(API), BiSync(API), and SDLC(API). Furthermore, WANPIPE supports custom
API development such as: Credit card verification, Voice-over IP,
Satellite Comm. All device drivers are part of the standard Linux Kernel
distribution.
Changes: Full support for the new A108 8 Port T1/E1 Card. AFT Front End
T1/E1 Alarm update for polling. TDM bugfixes for copying from kernel space
to user space. HWEC and TDMAPI udev major device numbers have changed.
Install script and frame relay DLCI statistics have been updated. AFT-LIP
bugfixes and workarounds for interoperability issues. This release adds
64-bit support and fixes bugs in A104D HWEC. It fixes bugs in the AFT
firmware update utility. It fixes shutdown problems on AFT A101/2 cards.

About: Xfdiff is graphic interface to the GNU diff and patch commands. It
allows you to view differences side by side for files or directories. You
can also view differences that applying a patch file would imply, without
having to apply the patch. You can also apply patches to the hard disc or
create patch files for differences between files or directories.
Changes: Some bugfixes and minor enhancements.

About: xsd is a W3C XML Schema to C++ translator. Provided with an XML
instance description (XML Schema), it generates C++ classes that represent
the given vocabulary as well as parsing and serialization code. Compared to
APIs such as DOM and SAX, the generated code allows you to access the
information in XML instance documents using your domain vocabulary instead
of generic elements, attributes, and text. Static typing helps catch errors
at compile-time rather than at run-time. It features C++ standard
library-based language mappings, configurable base character type
(char/wchar_t), platform-independent generated code, comprehensive
documentation, and more.
Changes: A new cardinality calculator which is capable of handling complex
containment structures was added. A new identifier escaping logic has been
implemented. Split code generation for large, monolithic schemas is now
supported. Options to reduce generated code size were added.
