by bebbo (http://freshmeat.net/users/bebbo/)
Fri, Mar 17th 2006 13:22
Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents
Communications :: Email :: Mailing List Servers
About: BEJY is a modular server application. It is packaged, by default,
as a Web application container and mail server with SSL. It has
functionality similar to inetd, and has some helper classes/functions to
ease the implementation of new protocols. It provides a generic
multithreaded TPC/IP server implementation with optional SSL support,
covering the complete connection and thread management. Each supported
service provides its protocol implementation. The current version comes
with HTTP, SMTP, POP3, and IMAP protocol implementations. The HTTP
protocol implementation also contains a servlet engine, a JSP 1.2 engine,
a handler to invoke CGI, and other useful things. The mail protocols
require a database using JDBC, as MySQL, MSSQL, and others.
Changes: The main focus of this release is the new admin console, for
better usability, better navigation, and a new mail config wizard that
guides you through mail setup and also supports the migration from bejy
1.3.x.y to 1.4.1.58. More details are visible, such as the status of
active servers and scheduled tasks. The recovery of lost email or
importing from Unix mailboxes is now possible.

About: bib_errors can be used to intercept runtime errors of PHP scripts.
It registers a PHP error handler function that outputs the details about
the errors to a given log file. The errors can be displayed as part of the
current script output or sent to a given email address to let the site
administration or developer react promptly.
Changes: This release fixes a problem with big error logs and modifies the
function that sends email to avoid warning errors when PHP is in SAFE_MODE.

Office/Business :: Scheduling
About: Calcurse is a text-based personal organizer which helps keep track
of events and everyday tasks. It has a calendar and a "todo" list, and
puts your appointments in order. The user interface is configurable, and
you can choose between different color schemes and layouts. All of the
commands are documented within an online help system.
Changes: All-day-long events were added. Together with this feature
enhancement, GUI improvements were made, such as scrollbars and progress
bar implementations. The text scrolling mechanism was also greatly
improved, with the use of ncurses pad functions. Concerning the minor
enhancements, appointment duration can now be entered either in minutes or
in hh:mm format, and the bugs reported by calcurse users were corrected.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: db_bibivu is a simple MySQL database access wrapper. It provides
functions for connecting to a MySQL database server, selecting the
database to access, executing queries, retrieving query results rows in
arrays, executing a query to return a single result row in a single call,
etc. The class may optionally generate a log of the executed queries. When
a query fails, it may send a warning message to a given site administrator
email address.
Changes: This release fixes the variable db_accesses to be internal and
not global and fixes email sending to send the whole current page and not
only the script name.

About: dinamica is a powerful and very easy to use framework for J2EE Web
development. It's newbie friendly and was built from scratch to be a high
productivity framework for building business-oriented Web applications,
whether they are large-scale or smaller ones. It stands apart from other
Java MVC frameworks because it incorporates innovative programming
techniques that boost productivity without sacrificing good object
oriented design practices. Most common programming tasks can be completed
without writing a single line of code.It uses Servlet API 2.3 and does not
require JSP or TagLibs.
Changes: This release adds better support for code-free Oracle BLOBs
management (tested with Oracle 9i R2), a new generic class and complete
reusable solution template, and enhanced generic recordset capabilities.

by Matt Domsch (http://freshmeat.net/users/mdomsch/)
Fri, Mar 17th 2006 13:19
System :: Systems Administration
About: DKMS (Dynamic Kernel Module Support) is a framework where device
driver source can reside outside the kernel source tree so that it is very
easy to rebuild modules as you upgrade kernels. This allows Linux vendors
to provide driver drops without having to wait for new kernel releases (as
a stopgap before the code can make it back into the kernel), while also
taking out the guesswork for customers attempting to recompile modules for
new kernels. For veteran Linux users it also provides some advantages since
a separate framework for driver drops will remove kernel releases as a
blocking mechanism for distributing code.
Changes: Adds a PRE_INSTALL directive for doing per-module custom
install-time checks.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
About: Domino/JBoss SSO allows you to create a mixed J2EE/ Domino Web site
that is seamless to your users. Users will only have to log in once,
whether they are in a Lotus Domino Web application or a J2EE application.
Management of J2EE users/roles is done using the standard Notes/Domino
infrastructure so there is no need to learn another environment, use
another database, or modify XML files.
Changes: This release adds support for JBoss 4.02+ (Tomcat 5.5 container).
Unfortunately, this is no longer compatible with previous versions of JBoss
because, Tomcat 5.5's authentication API changed.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: GNUnet is a peer-to-peer framework with focus on providing
security. All peer-to-peer messages in the network are confidential and
authenticated. The framework provides a transport abstraction layer and
can currently encapsulate the network traffic in UDP (IPv4 and IPv6), TCP
(IPv4 and IPv6), HTTP, or SMTP messages. GNUnet supports accounting to
provide contributing nodes with better service. The primary service build
on top of the framework is anonymous file sharing.
Changes: This release fixes various major bugs. This includes a deadlock
in the HTTP transport and non-deterministic aborts of large recursive
downloads. Bugfixes related to missed opportunities for content migration
and routing should improve content availability and download performance.
Minor improvements were made in terms of CPU and memory consumption. This
version includes a translation to Swedish and some other cosmetic
improvements.

Fri, Mar 17th 2006 11:24
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: JUCE is an all-encompassing C++ class library for developing
cross-platform applications. It's particularly good for creating
highly-specialised user interfaces and for handling graphics and sound.
The intended users are developers who are building large, complex
applications in C++ and who would like to use just one clean, high-level
API rather than a bunch of different libraries for different purposes or
platforms. Its features include fully lightweight components with
transparency and effects, classes for strings, containers, XML, streams,
file handling, messaging, and event queues, vector graphics, a custom font
engine, image manipulation, OpenGL support, low-latency audio I/O using
CoreAudio, DSound and ASIO, audio buffers and nodes, MIDI file and event
manipulation, Internet streams, undo/redo support, and more.
Changes: New interprocess comms classes in this version: sockets, pipes,
and some classes for making it easy to use these to pass messages. Also
some tidying up of the audio device classes, and a smattering of bugfixes.

[029] - nwcc 0.5
by Nils Weller (http://freshmeat.net/users/nweller/)
Fri, Mar 17th 2006 13:27
Software Development :: Compilers
About: nwcc is a small C compiler for Unix systems. It currently only
generates NASM 80x86 code for FreeBSD and Linux, and doesn't feature any
software development support beyond plain compilation. It can compile
itself correctly now, though there are still too many bugs for general
use.
Changes: Inline assembly language and long long support have been improved
significantly, and various GNU C features were added. As a result of these
and other improvements, nwcc can now compile itself correctly on FreeBSD,
and is generally more robust.

Communications :: Telephony
About: PyGNUGK is a command line tool, a CGI script, and a set of Python
classes available as a Python module, which can connect to GNU
Gatekeeper's status port and return information about what's there. It can
currently report the list of registered endpoints and ongoing calls.
Changes: The GNUGK Python class now exposes all commands available from
GNU-Gk's status port as methods. This way, a GNU Gatekeeper can be
completely controlled from any Python program. A test program is now
included to demo these features. When the CGI script is protected through
Apache's authentication mechanism, the HTML view exposes links allowing
the disconnection of active calls and endpoints, and the unregistration of
endpoints.

[035] - rdup 0.2.5
by Miek Gieben (http://freshmeat.net/users/miek/)
Fri, Mar 17th 2006 10:39
System :: Archiving :: Backup
About: rdup is a utility inspired by rsync and the Plan9 way of doing
backups. rdup itself does not backup anything; it only prints a list of
the names of files that have changed since the last backup. Auxilary
scripts are needed to act on this list and implement the backup strategy.
This way rdup can be kept lean and mean.
Changes: A few bugs in the shell scripts have been fixed.

[037] - Rubber 1.1
by Emmanuel Beffara (http://freshmeat.net/users/xunam/)
Fri, Mar 17th 2006 09:18
Text Processing :: Markup :: TeX/LaTeX
About: Rubber is a building system for LaTeX documents. It is based on a
routine that runs just as many compilations as necessary. The module
system provides a great flexibility that virtually allows support for any
package with no user intervention, as well as pre- and post-processing of
the document. The standard modules currently provide support for bibtex,
dvips, dvipdfm, pdftex, and makeindex. A good number of standard packages
are supported, including graphics/graphicx (with automatic conversion
between various formats and Metapost compilation).
Changes: This release adds support for user-defined file conversion rules,
support for xindy and sam2p, improved fig2dev support, an experimental
cache system, and bugfixes for better parsing of log files, error
reporting (including for BibTeX and Metapost), and handling of verbatim
environments.

[038] - Scapy 1.0.4
by Philippe Biondi (http://freshmeat.net/users/biondi/)
Fri, Mar 17th 2006 06:17
Internet
Security
Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules
About: Scapy is a powerful interactive packet manipulation tool, packet
generator, network scanner, network discovery tool, and packet sniffer. It
provides classes to interactively create packets or sets of packets,
manipulate them, send them over the wire, sniff other packets from the
wire, match answers and replies, and more. Interaction is provided by the
Python interpreter, so Python programming structures can be used (such as
variables, loops, and functions). Report modules are possible and easy to
make. It is intended to do about the same things as ttlscan, nmap, hping,
queso, p0f, xprobe, arping, arp-sk, arpspoof, firewalk, irpas, tethereal,
tcpdump, etc.
Changes: This release adds easy packet list filtering (e.g., list[ICMP]),
bluetooth HCI protocol support, an improved show() for PacketFields, a
LaTeX theme that escapes special characters, a timeout to sniff(), an
equality test, a 3D traceroute, and bugfixes. It no longer depends on
libreadline.

[039] - Secure FTP Factory 5.5
by JScape (http://freshmeat.net/users/jscape/)
Fri, Mar 17th 2006 06:49
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: Secure FTP Factory is a set of Java classes for communicating with
FTP servers using the FTP, SFTP (FTP over SSH), and FTPS (FTP over SSL)
protocols. The components offer complete FTP functionality, including the
ability to transfer files, rename files, delete files, create directories,
transfer directories recursively, and more.
Changes: This release adds support for the SCP protocol (secure copy over
SSH, see the com.jscape.inet.scp.Scp class), adds the ability to specify a
different key exchange security provider (using the system property
jscape.kex.provider), and improves timeout support in the
com.jscape.inet.sftp.Sftp class.

[041] - tinydyndns 0.4.2
by Gerrit Pape (http://freshmeat.net/users/pape/)
Fri, Mar 17th 2006 13:24
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
About: tinydyndns is a simple but powerful dynamic DNS solution that uses
djbdns. It cooperates with the djbdns package to publish dynamic IP
addresses authenticated through POP connections. On successfully
authenticated POP connections, the tinydyndns-update program manipulates
tinydns' constant database "data.cdb" directly without rebuilding it; this
makes the dynamic DNS solution use very few system resources. Using a POP
service for authentication saves the work for installing special client
software, since POP clients are available for every common network-aware
operating system. To provide the DNS and POP service, tinydyndns
cooperates with djbdns, qmail, and cvm.
Changes: The project moved to a different site, and the documentation has
been updated.

[043] - Web Performance Trainer 3.0 Beta M1
by Michael Czeiszperger (http://freshmeat.net/users/czei/)
Fri, Mar 17th 2006 13:21
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Software Development :: Testing
About: Web Performance Trainer is a load testing and stress testing tool
for Web servers. Its statistical analysis takes your site's performance
criteria, and determines the number of users your Web site can handle.
Because data is collected at the URL level, it not only identifies slow
Web pages, but identifies the particular part of the Web page that caused
the problem. Web Performance Trainer includes hard-to-find features such
as IP spoofing, client certificates, multiple simultaneous test cases,
authentication, SSL recording and playback, automated analysis, and more.
Changes: This is a huge change for this software. The user interface has
been completely rewritten using the Eclipse framework, and can now be run
either as an Eclipse plugin-in or stand-alone. The product is also being
renamed to the Web Performance Suite, and the features are being
modularized. The current load testing feature set will be in a module
called "Load Tester", the features in Web Performance Analyzer will be in
a module called "Analyzer", etc.

Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Rendering
About: white_dune is a graphical VRML97 editor, simple NURBS/Superformula
3D modeller and animation tool. VRML97 (Virtual Reality Modeling Language)
is the ISO standard for displaying 3D data over the Web via browser plugins
("HTML for realtime 3D"). It has support for animation, real-time
interaction, and multimedia (images, movies, and sounds). white_dune can
read, create and display VRML97 files and let the user change the
scenegraph/fields. It also has support for stereoscopic view via
"quadbuffer"-capable stereo visuals, and support for 3D input devices like
a joystick, spaceball, or magnetic tracker.
Changes: Wrong writing of eventIn/eventOut instead of inputOnly/outputOnly
when writing x3dv files was fixed. A feature to let white_dune read its own
x3dv output was added.
