[001] - Aapl C++ Template Library 2.14
  by Adrian Thurston (http://freshmeat.net/users/age/)
  Sat, Mar 18th 2006 07:08

Software Development :: Libraries

About: Aapl is a C++ template library for generic programming. It contains
Linked List, AVL Tree, Vector, Binary Search Table, and Sort. The library
is designed to be versatile for the programmer by providing variations of
the standard data structures. For example, there is a by-value linked list
as well as a by-structure linked list that utilizes both inheritance and
templates to allow a single instance of a data structure to be an element
in multiple lists. Aapl data structures do not have private data members,
nor do they depend on heap memory allocation.

Changes: A transfer function has been added to the double lists and AVL
trees. Remaining double list and AVL tree copy constructors and assignment
operators have been changed to implement a deep copy, rather than a shallow
copy. All copy constructors and assignment operators now implement a deep
copy. Deep and shallow copy functions have been removed.

[002] - aMule 2.1.1
  by Kry (http://freshmeat.net/users/ElKry/)
  Sat, Mar 18th 2006 07:07

Communications :: File Sharing

About: aMule is short for "all-platform eMule-like file-sharing program",
or, in short, "all-platform Mule". It's a port of the well-known eMule P2P
client for the eDonkey2000 and Kad file sharing networks, supporting most
of eMule's features. Additionally, it provides a small separate Web server
and command line interface to connect to a running aMule via the network.

Changes: This release is focused on fixes for the ed2k and Kad networks.
All users should upgrade.

[003] - AntiVirus Scanner 0.8.3
  by Tara Milana, Wolfpack Entertainment
(http://freshmeat.net/users/learfox/)
  Sat, Mar 18th 2006 13:44

Security

About: AntiVirus Scanner is an anti-virus scanner for Endeavour Mark II
that uses the ClamAV library (libclamav). It allows you to create a list
of scan items for frequently scanned locations and features easy virus
database updating, all in a simple GUI environment.

Changes: An --ignore_links option has been added to optionally exclude the
scanning of links. The status bar now displays: the progress from 0 to 100%
of the objects being scanned, a status message that specifies the current
file/total files being scanned, and the time elapsed. A bug in the file
browser tab-completion feature in which an empty string produced a error
has been fixed.

[005] - astGUIclient 1.1.10
  by eflonet (http://freshmeat.net/users/eflonet/)
  Sat, Mar 18th 2006 07:13

Communications :: Telephony

About: astGUIclient is part of a suite of programs that are designed to
interact with the Asterisk PBX Phone system at a client computer level to
extend the functionality of your phone and system. The main GUI
application, astGUIclient, is a set of PHP Web-based scripts utilizing
Javascript and XMLHTTPRequest functions that work through a browser to
give realtime information and functionality with nothing more than an
Internet browser on the client computer. Another component included with
the astGUIclient package is the VICIDIAL auto-dialer, a list dialer which
can dial one-call-at-a-time or be put in auto-dial mode to act as a
predictive dialer. It can function as an ACD for inbound calls or for
Closer calls coming from VICIDIAL fronters, and allows for remote agents
that may only have a phone.

Changes: This release adds agent-defined scheduled callbacks, answering
machine detection, many bugfixes, more documentation and samples, and
several new security features and controls.

[011] - btrcv 0.2beta1
  by engla (http://freshmeat.net/users/engla/)
  Sat, Mar 18th 2006 22:41

Communications

About: Btrcv is a GUE wrapper for gnome-obex-server. Btrcv is not useful
for single files, but if you receive files when you have opted to "Always
accept files from this device", then you will no longer get any progress
on received files from gnome-obex-server. Btrcv will remedy this by
presenting a small window with transfer progress, and it allows you to
open or reveal a file as it is transferred. gnome-obex-server is still
responsible for receiving files. Btrcv loads gnome-obex-server in the
background.

Changes: A lot of features were added. A list of recently transferred
files was added. Actions may now be applied to received files. A Debian
package for the project has been built.

Database :: Front-Ends
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring
System :: Systems Administration

About: DB Copy Plugin is a database copying plugin for the SQuirreL SQL
Client. It makes it possible to copy and paste tables from one session to
another and between different databases and includes primary key and
foreign key constraints for copied tables, and uses Hibernate 3.0
internally to perform database object type mappings. It supports
Firebird, Oracle, Sybase, MS SQL Server, MySQL, HyperSonic, Pointbase,
and PostgreSQL, and allows the user to select a Hibernate dialect for the
destination database if one couldn't be determined automatically.

Changes: 0.22 (03/18/2006) ==== - Added support for DaffodilDB and H2
(www.h2database.com) - For number type fields, previously, the precision
was always the maximum allowed by the destination database. A new
mechanism was added to allow the source database precision to be used if
it doesn't exceed the destination database's maximum precision. Otherwise
the previous behavior (maximum precision allowed by the destination
database) is used.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio
Multimedia :: Video
Software Development :: Libraries

About: The GNU Compact Disc Input and Control library encapsulates CD-ROM
reading and control for applications wishing to be oblivious to the OS-
and device-dependent properties of a CD-ROM. It provides an API for access
to SCSI-MMC (multimedia commands) and support for CD image types like
BIN/CUE, cdrdao's TOC, and Nero's NRG, which gives applications using the
library the ability to read disc images as though they were CDs. ISO-9660
filesystem support is included, as are utility programs for displaying CD
and CD-ROM drive information, reading the blocks of a CD, and extracting
files from an ISO-9660 filesytem image. cdparanoia is also included.

Changes: An OO C++ interface was added. UDF support was started. libpopt
was replaced with GNU getopt. A number of interface cleanups were made.
cd-paranoia code was extensively commented and some potential bugs were
identified. DragonFly support via FreeBSD and GNU/Linux LARGEFILE support
were added. MinGW is now better tolerated. OpenBSD has been tested.
Numerous bugs have been fixed; strcpy, strcat, and sprintf have been
removed for better security. Example code, documentation, and doxygen
documentation have been revised/expanded.

  by David J. Cooke (http://freshmeat.net/users/djcooke/)
  Sat, Mar 18th 2006 14:27

About: GWintree is a genealogy chart program for Linux, which produces 2
styles of compact full charts from GEDCOM data, showing all blood
relatives. Options are available to show ancestors only or descendants
only. Charts can be printed across multiple pages or saved as image files,
and can display over 1000 families, showing all links, optionally
colour-coded, and formatted so families are not split by page breaks. It
also produces birth brief (pedigree) charts and selective ancestor charts,
and incorporates a simple data entry interface to create/edit/view GEDCOM
files.

Changes: The former dependency on libwtgext has been removed. Minor
improvements were made to the full tree chart and to screen display of
charts.

  Sat, Mar 18th 2006 22:34

Internet
System :: Monitoring

About: Honeyd is a small daemon that creates virtual hosts on a network.
The hosts can be configured to run arbitrary services, and their TCP
personality can be adapted so that they appear to be running certain
versions of operating systems. Honeyd enables a single host to claim
multiple addresses on a LAN for network simulation. It is possible to ping
the virtual machines, or to traceroute them. Any type of service on the
virtual machine can be simulated according to a simple configuration file.
Instead of simulating a service, it is also possible to proxy it to another
machine.

Changes: Subsystem support was improved. A stats collector was added. SMTP
and Proxy subsystems were added for high-performance. Security fixes were
done.

About: Imagero Reader is a Java library for reading image files. Supported
file types include BMP, GIF, TIFF, PNG, JNG, MNG, JPEG (including 12-bit
grey), PSD, PBM, PGM, PPM, TGA, EPS, EPSI, and EPSF. The following RAW
file types are also supported, at least partially: MRW, CRW, NEF, DCR, and
DNG. It can read thumbnails, read metadata (IPTC, EXIF, and XMP), edit
metadata, get image width and height, get the number of images contained
in a file, define an area to read, add a ProgressListener, choose an image
channel to read, set a scale factor, set subsampling (JPEG only), and read
an image (or channel) directly into an array.

Changes: TIFF merging is now even easier with MetadataUtils .merge(File
dest, File [] srcs). tRNS chunks in PNG files are correctly handled now.

Security
System :: Monitoring

About: Prelude-Manager is a high-availability server which collects and
normalizes information from distributed Prelude-IDS sensors and stores
them in a database (or any kind of user-provided media). It also provide
the ability to relay received events to one or several other
prelude-manager servers and allows users to filter received events so they
can provide specific actions for specific events. Support for filtering
plugins allows users to hook into different places in the Manager to
define custom criteria for alert relaying and logging.

Changes: This release adds a fix for reverse relaying on some
architectures, server scalability improvements in cases of message bursts,
the start of a Normalizer plugin (which sanitizes IDMEF Address/Service
only for now), and consistency work across all plugin logfile options. It
doesn't send messages received from the analyzer to itself with the
analyzer reading and writing to Prelude-Manager. When no listen address is
specified, it tries to bind all system addresses (both IPV4/IPV6). It sends
an alert to the peer on a handshake failure, so the peer will have some
information on what happened.

  by Robert (http://freshmeat.net/users/demonofthesystem/)
  Sat, Mar 18th 2006 07:10

Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: Simple persistence for Java is an object/relation mapping framework
for Java. It is designed to be easy to use. There are no XML files to
write, no tables to create, no IDs to generate, and no primary keys to
fiddle with; just point it to the database, check the API documentation
for three basic methods, and code away. It supports transactions, has its
own simple query language (very similar to SQL), and can handle object
references, lists, and maps.

Changes: This release adds Oracle support to the library and fixes a few
bugs which sometimes made the library unable to alter a table schema (the
relevant junit tests have been added).

[058] - socklog 2.1.0 (Development)
  by Gerrit Pape (http://freshmeat.net/users/pape/)
  Sat, Mar 18th 2006 23:06

System :: Logging

About: socklog cooperates with the runit package to create a small and
secure replacement for syslogd. socklog supports system logging through
Unix domain sockets (/dev/log) and UDP sockets (0.0.0.0:514) with the help
of runit's runsvdir, runsv, and svlogd. socklog provides a different
network logging concept, and also does log event notification. svlogd has
built in log file rotation based on file size, so there is no need for any
cron jobs to rotate the logs. socklog is small, secure, and reliable.

Changes: With this version, the socklog-conf program creates the socklog
service directories in /etc/sv/ instead of /etc/socklog/, and names them
socklog-unix, socklog-klog, etc. Additionally, it creates a ./check script
in the socklog-unix service directory, which is utilized by runit's sv
program when starting or checking the service.

[060] - taglog 0.2.2
  by John Lines (http://freshmeat.net/users/paladinfm/)
  Sat, Mar 18th 2006 08:07

Office/Business :: News/Diary
Utilities

About: Taglog is designed for anyone who spends most of their day sitting
at a computer, working on various projects. You can make notes about what
you do, as you go along, associating them with the projects you work on.
At the end of the week you can produce a report of how your time was
spent, broken down by project for booking purposes. You can view previous
entries, by date, or by project. You can enter the actions you intend to
take, associate them with a project, and mark them as active, or complete.

Changes: The action Edit display now has a shortcut to the history of that
action. Setting the Active-after field on an action now causes it to become
Active at the specified time if it was Delegated (previously, this only
worked if the action was Pending).
