[001] - Active Block I/O Scheduling System 12
  by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
  Thu, Mar 23rd 2006 21:42

System :: Filesystems
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux

About: ABISS (Active Block I/O Scheduling System) is an extension for the
Linux kernel that implements priorities for disk IO operations, and that
provides a means for applications to use these priorities to obtain
real-time (e.g. a guaranteed data rate) and prioritized best-effort
services. The kernel code is supported by a user space daemon and a
library.

Changes: Regression tests were added for new buffer code (tests/nbuf/). A
new "vector" variable type was added, which is a list of integers. SIGUSR1
is now dispatched to the "signal" function of the scheduler modules. Space
for page pointers in the playout buffer is now allocated in page-sized
chunks instead of a contiguous vector. Infrastructure for buffer resizing
and queueing of asynchronous notifications was added. The code is now GCC
4.1.0 clean. Other minor updates and fixes were made.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: Ajaqs is a Web application that organizes FAQs on a per-project
basis. The UI is templatized, the content is internationalized, and the
styles are highly configurable. Secure login is provided via webapp
security constraints. The backend uses an O-R mapping tool to achieve
independence of database-specific queries. RSS feeds provide subscribers
continuous updates on a per-project or per-FAQ basis. FAQs are dynamically
served up as HTML pages, and can optionally be streamed to clients as PDF
content.

Changes: The Ant build process now utilizes Jasper to pre-compile JSPs
into the war file.

[008] - C++ Regex Engine 1.06
  by unr_stuart (http://freshmeat.net/users/unr_stuart/)
  Thu, Mar 23rd 2006 18:40

Text Processing

About: C++ Regex Engine provides a robust regular expression library for
use in C++. The syntax of the regular expression language is very close to
the Perl 5 standard. The classes given somewhat mirror those found in
Java's regular expression library, but have several improvements. The
intended audience of this package is anyone who does a lot of data parsing
(e.g. sysadmins), people tired of trying to decipher Perl scripts, and
regular expression beginners who know C++. Some knowledge of the STL's
vector and string will come in handy, but isn't necessary.

Changes: This release adds the ability to change matching flags in certain
parts of the regex by means of (?imsd-imsd:X). The i, m, s, and d options
are the same as those in the java.util.regex package.

[012] - check_logfiles 1.1
  by lausser (http://freshmeat.net/users/lausser/)
  Thu, Mar 23rd 2006 21:49

System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring

About: check_logfiles is a plugin for Nagios which checks logfiles for
defined patterns. It is capable of detecting logfile rotation. If you tell
it how the rotated archives look, it will also examine these files. Unlike
check_logfiles, traditional logfile plugins were not aware of the gap
which could occur, so under some circumstances they ignored what had
happened between their checks. A configuration file is used to specify
where to search, what to search, and what to do if a matching line is
found.

Changes: Up to version 1.0, the output of the plugin was just the numbers
of errors and warnings and a hint to a protocol file (which contained all
the matching lines of the logfiles). This version adds the last matching
line which led to an error or warning to the output. In most cases, there
will be just one such line, so you can see what happened at the Nagios Web
page.

reporting. Fixes a bug that would cause the backup to fail if it attempted
to backup a directory with some special characters in it. Fixes a bug in
the FTP functions that caused ESR to exit on an FTP failure without
returning an error. Fixes a timestamp issue where the date in the email
reports would show Jan 1, 1970 on some systems. Optimizes the backup
engine code and cleans up some old references that were no longer needed.

[030] - InteLib 0.5.74
  by Danya Alexyevsky (http://freshmeat.net/users/dendik/)
  Thu, Mar 23rd 2006 10:43

Software Development :: Libraries

About: InteLib is a library of C++ classes which lets you do Lisp
programming within your C++ programs even without any additional
preprocessing, without all those calling conventions. You can write code
which is accepted by a C++ compiler while thinking in a "Lisp mode", and
the code you write will look much like Lisp code, although it will be pure
C++.

Changes: The obsoleted version of the dynamic cast function is eliminated.
All the sources with the old-fashioned 2-space indentation have been
reformatted to 4-space indentation. All existing classes have at least
brief Doxygen-style comment. Smartpointers derived from SReference are now
derived from GenericSReference<T>, wherever possible. The version of
documentation (including Doxygen-generated) at the site is updated to
reflect the current situation. A bug in the Refal machine has been fixed.

[042] - minpair 5.0
  by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
  Thu, Mar 23rd 2006 03:53

Text Processing :: Linguistic

About: Minpair consists of two programs, a C command-line program and a
Tcl/Tk GUI, each of which can independently generate a complete list of
minimal pairs (words differing in exactly one segment) for use in
linguistic research. The GUI may also be used to control the faster CLI
program. Both allow sequences of characters to be defined as single
segments. Unicode is fully supported. It is also possible to obtain a list
of pairs differing in exactly two positions for use in finding phonological
rules.

Changes: It is now possible to run mpg without minpair. mpg can now find
pairs of words differing in exactly two positions. This is useful in
looking for phonological rules. GNU autoconfiguration is now available.

About: Miredo is a Unix daemon program which implements the "Teredo:
Tunneling IPv6 over UDP through NATs" Internet draft specification. It can
serve either as a Teredo client, a stand-alone Teredo relay, or a Teredo
server. The purpose of Teredo IPv6 tunneling is to provide IPv6
connectivity to users behind NAT devices, most of which do not support
IPv6, and not even Proto-41 forwarding.

Changes: This release addresses a possible non-Teredo IPv6 node
impersonation bug toward Teredo clients due to an input validation error,
a rare segmentation fault at exit, and problems with PID file locking and
deletion. miredo-checkconf, an additional program to check the
configuration file syntax, was added. The default Teredo server was

core, radmind operates as a tripwire. It is able to detect changes to any
managed filesystem object, e.g. files, directories, links, etc. However,
radmind goes further than just integrity checking: once a change is
detected, radmind can optionally reverse the change. Each managed machine
may have its own loadset composed of multiple, layered overloads. This
allows, for example, the operating system to be described separately from
applications. Loadsets are stored on a remote server. By updating a
loadset on the server, changes can be pushed to managed machines.

Changes: This release adds support for network communication compression
using zlib, and the OS X package contains universal binaries.

while the game is in progress. Sepp is written for the DrScheme
enviroment, which is available for all major platforms.

[070] - Tellu 2.3.3
  by Jani Salonen (http://freshmeat.net/users/janisalonen/)
  Thu, Mar 23rd 2006 09:51

About: Tellu collects hardware and software information from large
FreeBSD, Linux, and Windows client networks. It consists of a client, a
server, and a skin. The Tellu client resides on the client workstations
and does its job as invisibly as possible. The client program collects
information from the network and sends it to the server, which saves the
data in a MySQL database. The skin is an optional interface top of the
database. The server package also contains a monitoring server, which
collects information about Tellu server.

Changes: Realtime network usage collection (TCP, UDP, and ICMP traffic
with remote sessions) was added in the Windows client. The skin user
interface was rewritten entirely. Support was added for new resource usage
collection and first-aid message board. The database schema was changed
slightly. Lots of improvements and fixes were made in clients and servers.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries

About: Tntnet is a Web application server for generating Web applications
in C++. HTML pages with some additional tags for inclusion of C++ code are
compiled into shared libraries and served from tntnet. It resembles PHP,
JSP, or Mason, but the programming language used is C++, and the pages are
compiled into native code before serving. Tntnet is fully multithreaded and
supports http-keep-alive for best performance. Dynamic pages are served
about as fast as static pages in other Web servers, while creating Web
applications keeps simple.

Changes: SSL and internationalization didn't work at all in 1.5.0. This
release fixes it. An updated quick-start-guide is included. Some unused
code has been removed. Building of static libraries is suppressed, because
it does not make sense with tntnet.

About: Ultimate++ is a cross-platform C++ rapid application development

integrated development environment. Rapid development is achieved by smart
and aggressive use of C++ rather than through fancy code generators. In
this respect, U++ competes with popular scripting languages while
preserving C/C++ runtime characteristics. Its integrated development
environment, TheIDE, introduces modular conception to C++ programming, and
can be used to develop non-U++ applications.
