[001] - AsItHappens 0.3
by Mark Abrahams (http://freshmeat.net/users/markabrahams/)
Mon, Mar 27th 2006 04:30
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
About: AsItHappens is a real-time network statistics collector and
grapher. It collects data from devices over a network via ICMP and SNMP
and displays them on a graph, optionally storing collected data in a
database for later retrieval. Collection types include network response,
bandwidth usage, processor usage, memory usage, Cisco NBAR, and Cisco
NetFlow. AsItHappens polls data in regular intervals, which can be as
short as every second, to give immediate feedback on network performance.
AsItHappens can also graph flow information from packet capture files.
Changes: The release adds automated installers for Unix and Windows,
SNMP-based collection of processor and memory usage, a batch-file Windows
start-up script, and data export to a CSV file. A major bug that prevented
most packet capture graphs from working was fixed. For developers, this
release fixes a build script bug and adds a few more JUnit test suites.

[002] - Automated Argument Helper 1.2.1
by Scott McKellar (http://freshmeat.net/users/mck9/)
Mon, Mar 27th 2006 11:25
Software Development :: Code Generators
About: Aargh is a code generator written in C++. Based on specifications
defined in an XML file, it generates C or C++ code to parse a command
line, using the getopt() facility available in Unix, Linux, and similar
environments. It supports command line options with integer arguments,
string arguments, and no arguments. It optionally applies range tests to
validate the option arguments, or calls a user-defined validation
function. The generated code is commented and carefully indented for
readability.
Changes: When obtaining file names from the XML file, this release expands
environmental variables embedded in the file names, using a syntax similar
to that used by most Unix shells. Variable names are preceded by a dollar
sign, and optionally enclosed by curly braces. A leading tilde is
interpreted as $HOME. You can use a preceding backslash to escape a dollar
sign, tilde, or backslash, and thereby treat the character as a literal
value.

[008] - check_logfiles 1.2
by lausser (http://freshmeat.net/users/lausser/)
Mon, Mar 27th 2006 10:39
System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
About: check_logfiles is a plugin for Nagios which checks logfiles for
defined patterns. It is capable of detecting logfile rotation. If you tell
it how the rotated archives look, it will also examine these files. Unlike
check_logfiles, traditional logfile plugins were not aware of the gap
which could occur, so under some circumstances they ignored what had
happened between their checks. A configuration file is used to specify
where to search, what to search, and what to do if a matching line is
found.
Changes: There was a bug that could lead to a situation where an entire
rotated logfile was ignored. Additional checks will prevent such a
situation now. The default timeout has been changed to 60 seconds. Better
rotation detection has been added. A -d option has been added to activate
extensive tracing. Bugfixes and commenting.

preserving significant global image features, such as sharp edges and
corners. The most direct application is denoising. By extension, it can
also be used to inpaint or resize images. It is based on methods using
nonlinear multi-valued diffusion PDEs (Partial Differential Equations)
for image regularization. This kind of method generally outperforms
basic image filtering techniques (such as convolution, median filtering,
etc.) classically encountered in painting programs. Other image
denoising plugins are available, but are not free, and the corresponding
algorithms are kept secret.
Changes: The regularization algorithm has been improved and now performs
three times faster than previous versions. A edge-enhancement filter was
added, allowing more sharply restored images. Some bugs with filenames
containing spaces have been corrected.

[034] - Legion of the Bouncy Castle Java Cryptography API 1.32
by David Hook (http://freshmeat.net/users/davidhook/)
Mon, Mar 27th 2006 00:38
Security :: Cryptography
Software Development :: Libraries
About: The Legion of the Bouncy Castle Java Cryptography API provides a
lightweight cryptography API in Java, a provider for the JCE and JCA, a
clean-room implementation of the JCE 1.2.1, generators for Version 1 and
Version 3 X.509 certificates, generators for Version 2 X.509 attribute
certificates, PKCS12 support, and APIs for dealing with S/MIME, CMS, OCSP,
TSP, and OpenPGP. Versions are provided for the J2ME, and JDK 1.0-1.5.
Changes: This release adds support for F2m elliptic curves, support for
ECDSA with CMS and S/MIME, and better support for RSA-PSS in CRL and
certificate verification. Further work has been done on improving path
validation compliance with RFC 3280. OpenPGP text signatures now work
correctly in environments with "\r" as a line separator. A typo in the
header for OpenPGP clear text SHA256 signatures has been fixed, as have
some encoding issues in the streaming CMS and S/MIME APIs. It should now
be possible to eliminate all temporary files previously left by the S/MIME
parsers.

Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Version Control
About: The LibXDiff library implements basic and yet complete
functionalities to create file differences/patches to both binary and text
files. It uses memory files as file abstraction to achieve both performance
and portability. For binary files, it implements (with some modification)
the algorithm described in "File System Support for Delta Compression" by
Joshua P. MacDonald. For text files, it follows directives described in
"An O(ND) Difference Algorithm and Its Variations" by Eugene W. Myers.
Memory files used by the library are basically a collection of buffers
that store the file content.
Changes: The problem with the missing final end-of-line in text diff/patch
was fixed. The condition is now correctly handled in a way that makes
libxdiff text diff/patch compatible with GNU diff/patch.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: Meditation is a series of helper classes for PHP 5 that are used to
facilitate the building of RESTful APIs for your Web applications. It was
originally built because PHP doesn’t have very good handling for PUT and
DELETE requests. It is designed to be an extremely lightweight framework
and doesn't include things like XML parsing, template engines, or model
view controllers. However, you should be able to hook it up to any
buzzword compliant system you wish.
Changes: Processors for HTTP authentication (basic, digest, wsse) were
added. A procedural interface for request processors was added. Meditation
can now handle Request Entities of any type, as long as you build the
content handler for it. HTTP method overriding is handled through the
request parameter X-Rest-Method. A new Gate Persistor was built
(SqlGatePersistor), and while it is still abstract, it fills in most of
the details. MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle based persistance mechanisms
should be easy to build on top. General code cleanup and lots of minor
fixes and additions were done.

was removed. A bug where the VRML parser only worked when there was a
single space between a label and '{' or '[' delimiters was fixed along
with a problem where texture coordinates were being read as vertices. A
proper groff man page, mesh2hmap.1, was written. The 'usage' message was

[063] - ReleaseForge 0.9.9
by Phil Schwartz (http://freshmeat.net/users/phil_schwartz/)
Mon, Mar 27th 2006 21:50
About: ReleaseForge is a GUI application designed for project
administrators and release engineers of projects that are hosted at
SourceForge. It is intended to make it easier and faster to create a new
release and edit existing releases rather than using the SourceForge Web
interface. It streamlines the release effort by prompting you for
information regarding your new release (version info, change log, release
notes, files to include, etc). It then seamlessly negotiates with the
SourceForge Web server, creating your release, posting your release
notes/change log, uploading your files to the SourceForge FTP server,
selecting the files for inclusion in your release on the SourceForge Web
server, updating the file attributes of each of the files and then, if
appropriate, notifying monitoring users of the new release.
Changes: This version fixes some bugs that were introduced by API changes
in PyQt 3.15.

[070] - Splunk 1.2.2
by BSplunk (http://freshmeat.net/users/BSplunk/)
Mon, Mar 27th 2006 11:08
Information Management :: Issue Tracking
Information Management :: Records Management
Internet :: Log Analysis
About: Splunk organizes and makes sense of any type of machine data,
including Web servers, application servers, email servers, databases, and
network devices. It uses algorithms that dynamically discover event
relationships across diverse domains of machine data and build a
searchable Web of events to trace the real behavior of running systems. A
Splunk server can optionally work with Splunk.com, allowing users in
different organizations to participate in a global troubleshooting
community and share knowledge about common events and problems while
preserving data privacy.
Changes: Event type assignments are more exact. Events of the same type
are much less likely to be misclassified into separate types. splunkd
recovers index data better when restarted after an abrupt termination or
incomplete shutdown. This release can index events that have more than
10,000 characters in a single line. The verifyconfig command now handles
zero-length XML files without error. Splunk Professional ships with a
log4j appender for use on J2EE servers. The installer now shuts down
splunkd before updating a prior installation.

[071] - SQLAlchemy 0.1.5
by zzzeek (http://freshmeat.net/users/zzzeek/)
Mon, Mar 27th 2006 00:34
About: SQLAlchemy is a SQL toolkit and object relational mapper for
Python. It encourages "relational mapping" as opposed to "table mapping"
and includes enterprise-level features such as eager loading, unit-of-work
object commits, topological dependency sorting, and full usage of bind
parameters. It supports MySQL, Postgres, Oracle, and SQLite.
Changes: Improvements were made to Oracle support. A new engine capability
was added, allowing nested transactions at the connection or unit-of-work
level. Control of unit-of-work scoping was improved for individual
objects. Many fixes and enhancements were made to table inheritance
patterns. A new PickleType was added. Bugs in SQL construction were fixed.

Mon, Mar 27th 2006 00:47
Software Development :: Quality Assurance
Software Development :: Testing
About: TestLink is a testcase management and execution tracking system
built using PHP, MySQL, and several other open source tools. It is a tool
that helps streamline the software development process. It enables quality
assurance teams to create and manage their test cases and organize them
into test plans. These test plans allow team members to execute test cases
and track test results dynamically.
Changes: Button sizes in the user interface are no longer fixed, since
this breaks localization. The inability to print out the full test plan
for reports and metrics was fixed. The ability to list users in
alphabetical order in the "delete user" screen was added. In requirements
coverage, a bug was fixed where some requirements could not be assigned
due to requirements not being displayed correctly in the UI. The
documentation was updated and several miror changes were made.

by Tommi Mäkitalo (http://freshmeat.net/users/tmaek/)
Mon, Mar 27th 2006 13:34
Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Tntdb is a c++-class-library for database access. It implements a
database-independent layer, which loads the actual driver dynamically when
a connection is made. The classes use automatic resource management with
reference counts. Resources are freed when the classes go out of scope.
Error handling is done with exceptions (derived from std::exception).
There are STL-like iterators for result sets and rows, and also the cursor
is an STL-like iterator. It is written in standard C++ with Linux. Drivers
for PostgreSQL, sqlite3, and MySQL are available.
Changes: This version fixes some minor bugs and makes some small
improvements. The PostgreSQL driver allows cursors outside transactions.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
About: Tntnet is a Web application server for generating Web applications
in C++. HTML pages with some additional tags for inclusion of C++ code are
compiled into shared libraries and served from tntnet. It resembles PHP,
JSP, or Mason, but the programming language used is C++, and the pages are
compiled into native code before serving. Tntnet is fully multithreaded and
supports http-keep-alive for best performance. Dynamic pages are served
about as fast as static pages in other Web servers, while creating Web
applications keeps simple.
Changes: The precompiler now generates #line directives for the C++
compiler. The result is that error messages of the C++ compiler point to
the ecpp source instead of the generated C++ output of the precompiler.

[079] - udpcast 20060325
by Alain (http://freshmeat.net/users/alainknaff/)
Mon, Mar 27th 2006 00:30
Communications
Communications :: File Sharing
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
About: UDPCast allows to send data simultaneously to many destinations on
a local net. This can for instance be used to install entire classrooms of
PCs at once. The advantage over using other methods (nfs, ftp, whatever) is
that udpcast uses Ethernet's multicast abilities: it won't take longer to
install 15 machines than it would to install 2. The tool comes with a
busybox bootdisk for easy loading of the tool. However, udpcast can also
be started from the command line of an already installed system, and can
be used for other purposes than just system installation.
Changes: Kernel 2.6 support was improved by using sysfs instead of devfs
and by using a cpio-based ramdisk. The boot images are smaller thanks to
LZMA compression. Compatibility with distributions other than SuSE was
improved. Mingw compatibility was added for the Windows version. The
command line flags are more consistent. Miscellaneous bugfixes were made,
and the RPM spec file was refactored.
