About: Access Point Utilities for Unix is a set of utilities that
configure and monitor a Wireless Access Point under Unix. It is known to
compile (with GCC and the IBM C compiler) and run under Linux, FreeBSD,
OpenBSD, MacOS X, AIX, and QNX.

Changes: Dutch and Swedish translations have been added.

System :: Operating System
System :: Operating System Kernels

About: The Amiga Research OS (AROS) is an effort to implement an Open
Source and portable operating system that is compatible with AmigaOS 3.1.
It was originally meant to be a direct reimplementation, but AROS
currently has features which do not exist in AmigaOS.

Changes: Numerous changes were made.

Adaptive Technologies
Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries

About: ANSI-CIO is a set of transparent replacements for the file
functions in stdio.h and unistd.h. They offer the ability to share file
accesses, and to open, read, write (and more) files concurrently. Using
these functions it is possible to open a file more often than only once
and to access it. All functions are completely compatible with their ANSI
counterparts.

Changes: Transparent replacements for open(), close(), read(), write(),
and lseek() and some switches to enable either the FILE*- or the file
descriptor functions or both were added.

  by unDEFER (http://freshmeat.net/users/undefer/)
  Tue, Mar 28th 2006 09:00

System :: Filesystems
System :: Recovery Tools

About: anyfs-tools allows you to recover and convert filesystems while
using minimal extra disk space. Unlike other recovery tools, anyfs-tools
doesn't copy all the files found on other disks (or partitions), but only
saves information about the location of the file blocks to an external
inode table. After recovery, a user may mount the damaged filesystem with
anyfs and the external inode table and then interact with all recovered
files with any program.

Changes: A bug in the configure script was fixed, so now it uses pkgconfig
to look for the header files of libmpeg2. A bug in anyfs/inode.c was fixed.
This bug caused anyfs stat to return st_blocks as the count of file blocks
but not 512-byte blocks. Support for the ISO9660 CD image file format was
added.

[005] - AudioMove 1.12
  by Jeremy Friesner (http://freshmeat.net/users/jaf/)
  Tue, Mar 28th 2006 11:09

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Conversion

About: AudioMove is a handy GUI-based batch audio file converter/copier
program. It can convert various audio file formats to WAV or AIFF format
(using libsndfile), and do high-quality sample-rate conversion at the same
time (using libsamplerate). It is multi-threaded for maximum throughput,
can handle thousands of files per batch, and does recursive directory
scans.

Changes: This version fixes a problem that could cause clipping in the
output of sample-rate conversions from loud input files to 16-bit output
files. It also adds graphical progress bars to the GUI.

  by Matthias Ferdinand (http://freshmeat.net/users/freshmfedv/)
  Tue, Mar 28th 2006 09:03

System :: Installation/Setup
System :: Systems Administration

About: CPAN+changelog.pl is a wrapper script for the CPAN Perl module. It
adds ChangeLog and BuildLog functionality. A ChangeLog allows an
administrator to better decide if and when a module from CPAN should be
upgraded. A BuildLog helps answer questions like, "When was module Foo
installed?" or, "Were there any warnings when compiling Bar?"

Changes: The "-shell" option was added to allow interactive use of
CPAN::shell together with the convenience of having the BuildLog,
ChangeLog updates, and auto-autobundle. The COLUMNS and LINES environment
variables are exported to allow for Term::Readline updates.

  by Lorenzo Bettini (http://freshmeat.net/users/bettini/)
  Tue, Mar 28th 2006 02:57

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Pre-processors

About: Doublecpp is a preprocessor for C++ that handles a new linguistic
construct for defining branches of a multi-method. The "right" branch of
such a method will be selected dynamically at run-time according to the
actual type of the object on which the method is invoked, and to the
actual type of the first argument: double dispatch. This basically
implements dynamic overloading in C++.

Changes: Mutual dependences among classes (used as the first parameter of
a multi-methods) are now handled, tab characters in input files are
correctly recognized, a multi-method declaration is not required to start
on a new line, and structs are handled.

  Tue, Mar 28th 2006 11:00

System :: Monitoring

About: The LACH (Linux ATI CPU HDD Control) daemon is able to reduce power
consumption in a laptop by scaling back CPU, GPU (Radeon only), and HDD. It
uses CPUFreq, ACPI, HDDTemp, and internal functions. It also checks for
thermal overheating for the sake of laptop health.

Changes: A little code cleanup in lach-scaling.c and lach-ati_scaling.c.
Changes in show_status(). A compiler change option. get_system_version()
has been reworked, and is now get_system_config(). A kernel
/proc/config.gz configuration file. Changes in the readme, the -k option,
and in hddtempd(). The indentation has been changed to Kernighan and
Ritchie. System error messages have been added in the panic routine. This
release logs computer status on emergency shutdown for debugging.

[032] - MailManager 2.1-RC2 (Development)
  by Andrew Veitch (http://freshmeat.net/users/aveitch/)
  Tue, Mar 28th 2006 11:12

Communications :: Email
Information Management :: Issue Tracking
Office/Business

About: MailManager helps teams deal with large volumes of email by
allocating mail to the right person, providing tools to help answer it
(prioritisation, reply templates, and a knowledge base), and allowing
managers to set service levels for different types of mail and report on
performance against service levels and volumes received. MailManager is
based on Zope which is required to use it. It is cross-platform, but most
of the testing has been under Linux and Mac OS X.

Changes: This release fixes several issues. Message loops are now caught
based on the presence of the X-MailManager header, and there is improved
support for Unicode throughout. The migration code has been improved to
fit with the design proposed in the development documentation. The
presence of 'TID' in subject lines is now optional based on database
settings, although this feature is not yet accessible through the user
interface.

[033] - Make CD-ROM Recovery 0.9.1
  by Gratien D'haese (http://freshmeat.net/users/gdha/)
  Tue, Mar 28th 2006 13:46

System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Compression
System :: Installation/Setup

About: mkCDrec (Make CD-ROM Recovery) makes a bootable (El Torito)
disaster recovery image, including backups of the Linux system to one or
more CD-ROM(s) (multi-volume sets). Otherwise, the backups can be stored
on another disk, NFS/CIFS disk, or (remote) tape. After a disk crash or
system intrusion, the system can be booted from the CD-ROM and one can
restore the complete system as it was. It also features disk cloning,
which allows one to restore a disk to another disk (the destination disk
does not have to be of the same size, as it calculates the partition
layout itself). Currently, ext2, ext3, minix, MS-DOS, FAT, VFAT, Reiserfs,
XFS, and JFS filesystems are supported. It can restore disks in Software
RAID and LVM mode. It supports the One Button Disaster Recovery (OBDR)
mode, which simulates a bootable CD-ROM on tape.

Changes: This release fixes a major bug with the link between mkcdrec and
busybox-1.1.0. All binary packages (of version 0.9) are impacted and
should download this release to avoid the "chroot not found" issue.
Furthermore, the /etc/mkcdrec.conf file is now always read by all routines
of mkcdrec. The /etc/mkcdrec.conf file may contain your customised settings
and will survive release upgrades.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players :: MP3

About: Plait (pronounced "play") is a command-line jukebox and music
player front end. It understands brief, easy to type queries that pick a
single song, mix queries that combine works from multiple artists, and
stream queries that find Shoutcast radio streams. A variety of filters are
available to pick just the music you want to hear. In order to actually
play the music it finds, Plait automatically hands off a playlist to one
of the supported music players, or creates a playlist that you can
manually load.

Changes: Several enhancements were made to plaiter: the list option was
added, which displays the playlist; loop mode was added; the latch command
was added, which ends playback after the current track; optional numeric
arguments were added to the next and prev commands; the search command was
improved; an rsearch command was added. Plait was extended with support for
Beep Media Player and amaroK. Some code was cleaned up. The directory
caching routine was modified to work with older versions of GNU find. Note
that support for amaroK has not been tested extensively.

Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: RabbIt is a mutating, caching Web proxy used to speed up surfing
over slow links like modems. It does this by removing advertising and
background images and scaling down images to low quality JPEGs. RabbIT is
written in Java and should be able to run on any platform. It does depend
upon an image converter if image scaleing is on. The recommended image
converter is "convert" from the ImageMagick package.

Changes: This release uses java.nio for non blocking I/O, which means that
many concurrent connections are handled by only a few threads. Filters for
URL blocking and advertising filtering are now regexp-based. The code has
been heavily refactored, and it should be easier to take parts of rabbit

[046] - Ragel State Machine Compiler 5.5
  by Adrian Thurston (http://freshmeat.net/users/age/)
  Tue, Mar 28th 2006 14:18

Software Development :: Code Generators

About: Ragel compiles finite state machines from regular languages into C,
C++, Objective-C, or D code. It allows the programmer to embed actions at
any point in a regular language and to control non-determinism in the
resulting machines. It understands concatenation, union, kleene star,
subtraction, intersection, epsilon transitions, and various other common
operators. Through the use of labels and epsilon transitions, Ragel
supports the building of state machines using a named state and associated
transition list paradigm. Its finite state machines are closed under all of
its operators. This property allows for arbitrary regular languages to be
described. It can be used to create a parser for any language that is
regular.

Changes: A regular expression option for making case-insensitive machines
was added. If no input file is given to the Ragel program, it now reads
from standard input. A design bug in literal strings that prevented \0
from working correctly was fixed.

[056] - Template Interface Engine 1.0+
  by Muhamad Zakaria (http://freshmeat.net/users/muhamadzakaria/)
  Tue, Mar 28th 2006 08:53

Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: Template Interface Engine joins back-end code (as business logic
layer) and HTML code (known as presentation layer) which are written in
separate files. This class implements a template engine that uses regular
expressions to locate placeholder marks. It supports template loops and
uses event driven callback functions to set variables inside the loop
sections. Outside loop sections, the variable values can set directly. The
tags used by this engine are enclosed by comment HTML tags, so the
templates can be edited later by any WYSIWYG HTML editor.

Changes: A configuration file was added. An INCLUDE tag feature was added.
"Logic expression" evaluation was fixed and enhanced so that the loop name
can be used in the expression as a variable instead of another expression
that represents the count of the table data loop. While it is impossible
to use all internal PHP functions by default, you can now use a
declaration in the configuration file to permit this. The
"RegisterFunction" function was added, which is used to register a custom
function used by the class.

About: WIST is a PHP Web Interface that permits you to connect on a remote
host/port and listen/filter a SIP dialog of a specific SIP From number,
avoiding listening to all captured traffic pushed by siptraced. The stop
control is via the browser's stop button. The output is colorized, and the
"Call-ID" tag is highlighted to make it easy to locate.

About: Web Performance Trainer is a load testing and stress testing tool
for Web servers. Its statistical analysis takes your site's performance
criteria, and determines the number of users your Web site can handle.
Because data is collected at the URL level, it not only identifies slow
Web pages, but identifies the particular part of the Web page that caused
the problem. Web Performance Trainer includes hard-to-find features such
as IP spoofing, client certificates, multiple simultaneous test cases,
authentication, SSL recording and playback, automated analysis, and more.

Changes: This version adds new reporting features and fixes many bugs.

About: xAutoClick enables you to automatically click the left mouse
button. It is designed to reduce strain on the wrist muscles caused by
repetitive mouse clicking, which can lead to serious injury or impairment
(RSI, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, et cetera). By specifying the interval, a
random factor and the number of times to click, the program simulates
natural clicking.

About: Xming is a port of the X Window System server to Windows. It shares
the same source code base as Cygwin/X, but does not depend on the Cygwin
environment or cygwin1.dll. Xming is a fully featured X11 server for
Windows that is very simple to install and use.

Changes: Xming was synchronized with the modular XOrg CVS, when sensible.
A crash in XLaunch which occurred if it was run with the wrong MSXML
schema was fixed. "Dock" windows were made frameless in multi-window mode.
