Software Development :: Libraries

About: ADODB is a set of advanced PHP database abstraction classes. It
supports MySQL, PostgreSQL, Interbase/Firebird, Informix, Sybase SQL
Anywhere, Oracle, MS SQL 7 and 2000, SAP DB, Sybase, DB2, FrontBase,
Foxpro, Access, Netezza, LDAP, ODBTP, ADO, and generic ODBC. A metatype
system is built in, making it possible to figure out that types such as
CHAR, TEXT, and STRING are equivalent in different databases. It also
features portable database creation, database-backed session support (with
encryption), SQL performance monitoring, and database health checks.

Changes: Activerecord support was added. A flag for choosing compatibility
with MySQL 3.23 was added. GetOne() Select-Limit problems were fixed.
adodb-xmlschema03.inc.php was added to support XML Schema version 3. The

[015] - combina 0.3.5
  by Danilo Cicerone (http://freshmeat.net/users/Danilo_Cicerone/)
  Wed, Mar 29th 2006 04:50

About: combina is a password generator that uses three different
algorithms based on combinatorial analysis. It implements simple
dispositions or permutations, dispositions with repetition (the famous
brute force), and simple combinations.

Changes: This result is now totally independent of the calculation of the
final number of the combinations because of the different implementation
of the integer in different platforms and/or processors. The character set
is no longer unnaturally limited. The MD5 hash for every created
combination can be produced.

  Wed, Mar 29th 2006 07:44

Database
Database :: Front-Ends

About: DbWrench is multi-vendor, multi-platform database design and
synchronization software. Features include a syntax highlighting SQL
query editor, support for many of today's most popular databases, a
graphic entity relation diagram (ERD) designer, and the ability to
forward and reverse engineer databases. Its multi-vendor and
multi-platform functionality makes it ideal for heterogeneous database
environments.

Changes: Users can now set the diagram font size directly. In previous
versions, the font size was fixed and users had to use the zoom feature to
achieve a desired font size. This indirect method of controlling font size
is no longer necessary. The automatic diagram layout algorithm has been
significantly improved. Another major enhancement is that when a user
selects a table or foreign key tree node, the diagram will automatically
scroll to bring that item into view.

Information Management
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries

About: Easy SVN is a subversion browser via the Web. It's easy because
only a command line svn program and Perl are required to run it; no extra
software needs to be installed. After configuring the Perl script as
cgi-bin program, SVN repositories can be navigated, and entries viewed for
contents, history, and diffs.

Changes: In the file contents display, repository contents can be rendered
in the browser. For example, when viewing a .jpg or .png that is stored in
the SVN repository, the corresponding image is rendered. Other files, such
as sources, are of course still displayed by their contents, as simple
text. All of this is configurable in the script.

About: Fact Or Fiction is a deck editor for the popular trading card game
"Magic: The Gathering". It can be useful for organizing and keeping track
of your cards. It supports card filtering, automatic image loading, deck
sorting, and quick entry.

Changes: The source is available in CVS. The sources, the Java source
code, and the default Oracle file use Unicode (UTF-8) for encoding the
text. Oracle files are expected to be UTF-8 encoded. Drag-and-drop with
multiple selected cards in the deck editor window now works. Linux/GTK
fixes were made. Some of these fixes should also apply to the Mac. By
request, a new sorter plugin was added. The image download directory is

Games/Entertainment
Games/Entertainment :: Real Time Strategy
Games/Entertainment :: Turn Based Strategy

About: Freeciv is a multiuser reimplementation for Unix/X of the famous
Microprose game of Civilization. By default, the game is an improved Civ
II, but this can be customized; modpacks for near-100% compatibility with
Civ I and Civ II are included. Multiuser gameplay is real-time: in each
turn, all human players move concurrently. The game is designed to remain
fairly playable even on poor network connections. Freeciv can also be
played on standalone machines, and its AI players are a good challenge for
beginners. The source code comes with the server, two X clients, and non-X
clients for MS Windows and Amiga. Freeciv is released under the GNU
General Public License. It is maintained by an international team of
coders and enthusiasts, and is easily one of the most fun and addictive
network games out there.

Changes: The pubserver authentication system was simplified, and other
pubserver-related changes were made. Problems with some strings in some
languages on Windows were fixed. A potential desynchronization bug when
establishing connections was fixed. A potential crash when reading packets
was fixed. Some bugs allowing illegal rehoming of units were fixed. Loading
of savegames created by Freeciv 2.1 is now allowed. The client is now
allowed to goto into unknown tiles. A set of crashes likely to happen with
the XAW client on 64-bit systems were fixed. A bug that allowed unlimited
incoming airlifts was fixed.

[031] - glibc-audit 2.4-4
  by John Reiser (http://freshmeat.net/users/jreiser/)
  Wed, Mar 29th 2006 10:21

Software Development :: Debuggers
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Quality Assurance

About: glibc-audit is a modified version of glibc for application
developers who check their code with an automatic memory access checker
such as Purify, Insure++, or valgrind. glibc-audit has been audited and
cleaned up so that reports from the developer's use of a memory access
checker are more likely to be interesting to the developer, with less
"noise" from the C library itself. Also, the r_debug.r_brk protocol has
been enhanced to co-operate with a co-resident auditor.

Changes: The patches were updated to glibc-2.4-4. A glibc bug that
interfered with gdb stop-on-solib-events was fixed. On x86, x86-64, and
PowerPC, the __NR_open system call was improved to avoid leaking
information from the user to the kernel.

[039] - HTML Forms generation and validation 2006.03.30
  by Manuel Lemos (http://freshmeat.net/users/mlemos/)
  Wed, Mar 29th 2006 23:55

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: HTML Forms generation and validation is a PHP class that generates
HTML forms supporting many built-in validation types on server and client
sides. It prevents security attacks by discarding spoofed values, has
multiple submit protection, outputs HTML for fields displayed as fully
accessible or in read-only mode, and has field value filtering based on
regular expressions. It can be extended with custom input control plug-in
classes. AJAX based form submission, Calendar date, CAPTCHA, and linked
select plug-in controls are available.

Changes: A new plug-in class was added for automatically rendering form
inputs in a vertical column of input rows, without the need to use layout
HTML files or Smarty templates. A bug in the AJAX submit plug-in was fixed
to avoid JavaScript errors after the AJAX response is returned from the
server. A new class variable was added for keeping track of the list of
the invalid fields and the respective errors after the Validate function
is called.

[040] - idioskopos 0.1.14
  by Rick Vinyard (http://freshmeat.net/users/rvinyard/)
  Wed, Mar 29th 2006 21:39

Software Development

About: idioskopos (Greek: idio- inward, within, private; -skopos look,
aim, target) is a C++ library that attempts to simplify the addition of
object reflection and introspection. The idioskopos library is based
heavily on the approach taken in Gtkmm to wrap the gobject interface.
However, it is a standalone library and depends only on the sigc++
library.

Changes: A few small, but important changes were made. The Introspectable
class now has a signal_property_changed() method available that is emitted
whenever any property within the Introspectable object is changed. With the
new sigc++ signals, there is now a new example illustrating both
Introspectable and Property signals.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: The LIRE (Lucene Image REtrieval) library provides a simple way to
create a Lucene index of image features for content-based image retrieval
(CBIR), which allows searching for similar images. The used features are
taken from the MPEG-7 standard: ScalableColor, ColorLayout, and
EdgeHistogram. Furthermore, methods for searching the index are provided.

Changes: This release updates all internals to Lucene 1.9.1 and brings the
new Lucene along in the libraries. The scores are now normalized and
semantically equivalent to the score value of Lucene: a score of 1.0
identifies best matches, and the lower the score the worse the match. Two
critical bugfixes were made: deleted documents are now skipped and there
were some issues with using the same instance of searcher for multiple
searches.

  Wed, Mar 29th 2006 05:03

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Interpreters
Text Processing :: Markup

About: RefleX is a Java tool that allows people that have no particular
knowledge of Java to write smart programs entirely in XML. The concepts of
native XML programming used in RefleX have been designed separately, so
that other implementations on other platforms/languages can be considered.
As the tags used are considered "active", the underlying concepts have been
named "Active Tags". Programming in XML allows developers to efficiently
produce batch scripts as well as Web applications. With Active Tags, you
can dramatically decrease the number of lines you have to code.

Changes: In this release, you'll find tutorials for mapping SQL to
arbitrary complex XML structures, and for experimenting with the Active
Schema Language, which allows you to express constraints on XML documents
that you can't achieve with DTD, W3C XML Schema, nor Relax NG. It also
allows you to define custom semantic data types.

emulate several virtual CPUs simultaneously. A Z80 code dissasembler is
also included.

Changes: Full MEMPTR (BIT n,(HL) flags) support. It seems that all
undocumented z80 features are emulated now. 'zexall' tests were finally
passed.

[089] - Zatacka 0.1.5
  by mage (http://freshmeat.net/users/mage2/)

Games/Entertainment

About: Zatacka is clone of the classic DOS game Achtung die Kurve. You
maneuver a line and must sidetrack the lines of other players (and, of
course, hit no walls). When one player dies, the survivor gets one point.
Whomever survives longest wins the round. One game has eleven rounds.

Changes: This release adds barriers count setup, resolution change, and
maps (you can now use maps instead of a plain black screen). Some code
cleanup was performed.

Information Management
Text Editors

About: Zim is a WYSIWYG text editor written in Gtk2-Perl It aims to bring
the concept of a wiki to your desktop. Every page is saved as a text file
with wiki markup. Pages can contain links to other pages, and are saved
automatically. Creating a new page is as easy as linking to a non-existing
page. Pages are ordered in a hierarchical structure that gives it the look
and feel of an outliner. This tool is intended to keep track of TODO lists
or to serve as a personal scratch book.

Changes: Simple "export" and "preferences" dialogs have been added and the
HTML export code has improved. Various bugs relating to localization and
Unicode are fixed.
