[001] - /etc/net Scripts 0.8.2
  by Pilot (http://freshmeat.net/users/infrastation/)
  Thu, Mar 30th 2006 23:25

System :: Boot :: Init
System :: Networking
System :: Systems Administration

About: /etc/net represents a new approach to Linux network configuration
tasks. Inspired by the limitations of traditional configuration
subsystems, /etc/net provides builtin support for configuration profiles,
interface name management, removable device support, full iproute2 command
set support, interface dependency resolution, and a QoS configuration
framework. /etc/net provides support for the following interface types:
Ethernet, WiFi (WEP), IPv6/IPv6 tunnels, PSK IPSec tunnels, VLAN, PLIP,
Ethernet bonding and bridging, traffic equalizer, PentNET, usbnet, and
PPP. Due to its modular design, support for new interface types can be
added without overall design changes.

Changes: This release includes an ifplugd code bigfix, a profile name
detection bugfix, and other minor enhancements.

[002] - abcm2ps 4.12.12 (Development)
  by Guido Gonzato (http://freshmeat.net/users/goccia/)
  Thu, Mar 30th 2006 04:41

Printing

About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.

Changes: This release provides per-tune microtone values, %%straightflags
in non bagpipe tunes, and the new command %%alignbars.

Scientific/Engineering

About: Asymptote is a powerful descriptive vector graphics language for
technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like
syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting

script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI) methods.
High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language itself,
allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.

Changes: Support for compiling under GCC 4.1.0 was added. A memory leak in
interactive mode was fixed. A procedure for using CJK fonts was documented.
A function for inverting 2D points projected from 3D back onto a specified
plane was added, along with a solid geometry package with routines to draw
cylinders. Interactive mode (without command-line editing or history) now
works even in the absence of the GNU readline library. The documentation
was updated.

  Thu, Mar 30th 2006 23:36

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Multimedia :: Graphics
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: class.upload.php manages file uploads for you. It manages the
uploaded file and allows you to do whatever you want with the file as many
times as you want. If the file is an image, you can convert and resize it
in many ways, such as rotation, contrast or brightness correction,
colorization, addition of text labels and watermarks, and more. Security
features and file management functions are provided. The class can also
work on local files, which is useful for batch processing images online.

Changes: This is a major release of the class, with a lot of new image
manipulation features. The class can now work on local files, not only
uploaded files. Brightness, contrast, tint color, and overlay color of
images may now be manipulated. Text labels and watermarks may be set on
images. Flip and rotate operations may also be performed on images. The
JPEG compression quality may be calculated.

[018] - Conary 1.0.10

  Thu, Mar 30th 2006 22:32

Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.

Changes: Repository mirroring now provides rate limiting. There are some
improvements in flavor affinity. Applying rollbacks now provides progress
feedback just like an update. Changeset files that include user
definitions and troves requiring the user definition in the same changeset
will now create and use the user definition correctly.

[022] - dvipng 1.8
  by Jan-Åke Larsson (http://freshmeat.net/users/jalar/)
  Thu, Mar 30th 2006 03:15

Text Processing :: Markup :: TeX/LaTeX

About: dvipng makes PNG or GIF graphics from DVI files obtained from TeX
and its relatives. Its benefits include speed; it uses very fast
bitmap-rendering code for DVI files. Furthermore, it does not read the
postamble, so it can be started before TeX finishes. It supports PK, VF,
PostScript Type1 (via FreeType or t1lib), and TrueType fonts (via
FreeType), color specials, and more.

Changes: The release adds the ability to include bitmapped images (PNG,
JPEG, and GIF), and changes PostScript inclusion so that the image is not
cropped to the bounding box (unless requested) and has a transparent
background. For performance reasons, the output image is now true color if
an image is included. The output quality is substantially improved when
using the Freetype font library. A few bugs were fixed and the internal
color cache for better performance was enhanced.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: Elektra is a universal hierarchical configuration store, similar to
GConf and the Windows Registry. It allows programs to read and save their
configurations with a consistent API, and allows them to be aware of other
applications' configurations, leveraging easy application integration.
While architecturally similar to other OS registries, Elektra does not

[036] - GNU ddrescue 1.2-rc2 (Development)
  by Antonio Diaz Diaz (http://freshmeat.net/users/ant_diaz/)
  Thu, Mar 30th 2006 06:55

System :: Recovery Tools

About: GNU ddrescue is a data recovery tool. It copies data from one file
or block device (hard disc, cdrom, etc) to another, trying hard to rescue
data in case of read errors. GNU ddrescue does not truncate the output
file if not asked to. So, every time you run it on the same output file,
it tries to fill in the gaps. The basic operation of GNU ddrescue is fully
automatic. That is, you don't have to wait for an error, stop the program,
read the log, run it in reverse mode, etc. If you use the logfile feature
of GNU ddrescue, the data is rescued very efficiently (only the needed
blocks are read). Also you can interrupt the rescue at any time and resume
it later at the same point.

Changes: This version makes the interval at which the logfile is saved to
disk depend on logfile size, improving efficiency for very large logfiles.

[057] - Parallels Workstation 2.1 Build 1670 (Stable)
  by Parallels (http://freshmeat.net/users/Parallels/)
  Thu, Mar 30th 2006 10:55

About: Parallels Workstation is powerful desktop virtualization solution
that provides the ability to develop, test, and deploy in multiple
operating systems on a single PC. It supports nearly every standard
x86-based operating system, including the entire Windows family, multiple
Linux distributions, Solaris, OS/2, MS-DOS, and FreeBSD, each of which can
be launched and utilized in completely networked, fully portable, totally
independent virtual containers. Since guest operating systems are
self-contained and directly access hardware profiles, users never need to
partition hard drives, allocate system resources, or continually reboot
the host operating system.

Changes: Activation from non-root was fixed. Intel VT-x mode
initialization was fixed. USB scanner support was fixed. A few minor bugs
were fixed.

  by Daniel Kasak (http://freshmeat.net/users/dkasak/)
  Thu, Mar 30th 2006 22:59

Office/Business
Printing

About: PDF::ReportWriter is a Perl module that produces high-quality PDF
reports from a report definition and a data array. It supports text
formatting and alignment, unlimited grouping with group functions,
intelligent page breaking, color support, image support, shaped cell
backgrounds, and numeric formatting.

Changes: The current_page() method was added to retrieve the underlying
PDF::API2::Page object. More barcode properties were added and documented
(upper/lower mending zones, custom font/font_size). The cell font object
retrieving code was refactored to be used both in barcode and text cells.
Many fixes were made regarding text and barcode cells alignment of content
even when using absolute x, y coordinates. Another example of barcode
document (PDF as a barcode label) was added. A page duplication example
was added. Out-of-memory errors when defining cells that exceed page
height were fixed.

[066] - sharehound 1.0.8 alpha
  by artemv (http://freshmeat.net/users/artemv/)
  Thu, Mar 30th 2006 14:07

Communications :: File Sharing
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search

About: Sharehound is a file systems indexer and Google-like searcher. It
currently supports SMB file shares (i.e. MS Windows-based network shares
are supported). The Web UI is used for search and crawl monitoring. Files
and directories are indexed and searched by their paths and some other
external attributes, not contents. Historical data (deleted files and
offline hosts information) is indexed, which allows you to have
full-fledged RSS notifications about added, changed, and deleted files in
search results.

Changes: Sorting/paging has been moved to the Lucene side. This seems to
consume much less memory. The no-sorting mode is quite fast. Sorting seem
to be nearly the same speed on slower and larger result sets. Search has
"include directories" and "include files" filter flags in the "Advanced"
section. This allows you to request only files or only directories. There
is a (mandatory) search.property: default.page.size.

authentication, Microsoft's Distributed File System (DFS), and
manipulation of Access Control Lists (ACLs).

Changes: Parent directory ("..") linking was improved so that /bin/pwd

[070] - SOPE Application Server 4.5.6 (Development)
  by OpenGroupware.org (http://freshmeat.net/users/helge5/)
  Thu, Mar 30th 2006 14:14

Software Development :: Libraries
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: The SOPE package is an extensive set of frameworks (16 frameworks,
~1500 classes) which form a complete Web application server environment.
Besides the Apple WebObjects compatible appserver extended with Zope
concepts, it contains a large set of reusable classes: XML processing
(SAX, DOM, XML-RPC), MIME/IMAP4 processing, LDAP connectivity, RDBMS
connectivity, and iCalendar parsing. The parts of the package can be used
stand-alone (e.g. in Cocoa applications) and do not require the appserver
parts. For MacOSX developers, the package includes SOPE:X, which contains
special Xcode and Cocoa support for SOPE.

Changes: This release mostly fixes bugs found in 4.5.5. Issues were fixed
in quoted printable handling. A lot of LDAP related issues were fixed.
Support for Windows style WebDAV was improved. GCC 4.0 warnings were
fixed. Bug reports touched by this release are #995, #1588, #1624, #1590,

[071] - Speech and Debate Timekeeper 1.4
  by Jemmy Chen (http://freshmeat.net/users/jemmyc/)
  Thu, Mar 30th 2006 00:10

About: Speech and Debate Timekeeper is a collection of two multi-platform
timers for all speech and debate events. One is a debate timer with speech
order and time limits preprogrammed for Policy, Lincoln-Douglas,
Parliamentary, Public Forum, and miscellaneous debate formats. It also
tracks prep time for both sides. The other timer is designed for
individual events. All time limits are user adjustable. These timers give
visual and/or vocal time signals at user defined intervals. At the end of
each speech, cross-examination, or preparation, the timer automatically
sets itself to time the next thing that needs timing at the push of a
button.

Changes: A college policy debate format with 9 minute constructives, 3
minute cross-x, 6 minute rebuttals, and 10 minutes of prep time was added.
In the negative block of policy debate, there is now a button to go from
the cross-x after the 2NC directly to 1NR without having to go through Neg
prep. On non-PalmOS platforms, clicking on the stopwatch buttons and speech
order buttons plays a short beep instead of the system error sound. Visual
time signals for Debate Timekeeper can now be turned off in the time
signal configuration dialog.
