[001] - 3rd Edition Dungeons & Dragons Character Generator 3.0
  by Slicer (http://freshmeat.net/users/slicer/)
  Sat, Apr 8th 2006 23:32

Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing

About: 3rd Edition Dungeons and Dragons Character Generator is an
HTML/JavaScript Web page that allows the user to quickly and easily create
new Dungeons and Dragons characters. The characters can be of any of the
eleven classes, any of the playable races, and may start at any level from
1 to 220. Generation requires some simple input, after which the character
is displayed on a basic character sheet. It allows you to select your
starting stats, add ability points, and pick skills, equipment, feats, and
spells. It runs on most operating systems with most modern browsers.

Changes: The FAQs have been updated with this release. The feats page now
also shows which feats are Fighter or Wizard bonus feats. No functionality
was changed; just the look and feel.

  Sat, Apr 8th 2006 13:08

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: Apache Cocoon is a Web development framework built around the
concepts of separation of concerns and component-based Web development.
Cocoon implements these concepts around the notion of "component
pipelines", each component on the pipeline specializing on a particular
operation. This makes it possible to use a Lego(tm)-like approach in
building Web solutions, hooking together components into pipelines without
any required programming.

Changes: This is another maintenance release, which fixes some bugs and
adds some minor new features.

[006] - ChkBk 1.5
  by Stephen Kaiser (http://freshmeat.net/users/freesol29/)
  Sat, Apr 8th 2006 13:13

Office/Business :: Financial

About: ChkBk is a simple, yet functional checkbook registry program. It
allows the user to keep an accurate record of checking and/or savings
account transactions, to view a full or partial transaction history, to
backup and restore the database from a file, and to print a list of
transactions in a nice, easy-to-read format.

Changes: A major bug was fixed to make ChkBk properly identify when a
check number has already been used. The ability to search databases for
specific transactions has been added. Deposit and withdrawal menus now
automagically fill in decimal places as zeros when none is entered for
amount and fee fields. The user can now type "h" in any menu field to
bring up the help. Various minor bugs have been fixed and screen output
has been cleaned up. A minor adjustment was made to smooth out transition
from balance menu. Various minor installer bugs have been fixed, including
most Cygwin install problems.

[007] - Construct 1.20
  by ganges master (http://freshmeat.net/users/gangesmaster/)
  Sat, Apr 8th 2006 01:10

Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules

About: Construct is a Python library for declaratively defining arbitrary
data structures, called "constructs". These constructs can both parse data
into an object or build an object into data. Constructs work at the
bit-level, so there are no issues with byte-alignment. It supports fields,
structs, unions, and repeaters; adapters and validators; switches,
pointers, and other meta-constructs, like TLVs. Many primitives are
provided, as well as an "inventory" of ready-made protocols and file
format parsers.

Changes: Formatted, Float32/64 (both parsing and building), and
FlagsAdapter were added. LV, PascalString, and Flag were improved. The
utils package and PascalStringAdapter were removed.

[008] - cryptmount 0.4
  by rwpenney (http://freshmeat.net/users/rwpenney/)
  Sat, Apr 8th 2006 13:03

Security :: Cryptography
System :: Filesystems

About: cryptmount allows any user to access encrypted filing systems on
demand under GNU/Linux systems running a 2.6-series kernel via the
device-mapper infrastructure. After initial configuration by the
superuser, an ordinary user can mount or unmount filesystems managed by
cryptmount solely by providing the decryption password, with any system
devices needed to access the filing system being configured automatically.
A wide variety of encryption schemes (provided by the kernel and OpenSSL
library) can be used to protect both the filing system and the access key.
The protected filing systems can reside in either ordinary files or disk
partitions.

Changes: Facilities for automatic filesystem checking (via fsck) were
added. Support for unprotected encryption keys (e.g. stored on USB flash
disk) was added. Options were added for delegating (un)mounting to
/bin/mount, rather than the system call. Methods for restricting
(un)mounting certain filesystems to superuser-only were added.

[010] - debian-multimirror 2.5
  by Pedro Larroy (http://freshmeat.net/users/pedro_larroy/)
  Sat, Apr 8th 2006 01:10

Internet
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring

About: debian-multimirror is a tool that eases and automates the creation
and maintenance of custom Debian mirrors by mirroring only what you need.
You can choose what packages to mirror, and include or exclude them based
in regular expressions. It uses parallel programming to exploit redundancy
between mirrors and download from several mirrors at the same time for best
 performance and less mirror load. A custom algorithm is used to select a
consistent set of packages, and out of sync or even broken mirrors can
still be used. SHA1 and MD5 package information is used to assure data
integrity. It uses an XML file for configuration of the local mirror, and
writes the correspondent "Package" files after finishing mirroring.

Changes: There is now support for signing Release files with gpg.

  by Gerald Richter (http://freshmeat.net/users/richterg/)
  Sat, Apr 8th 2006 12:11

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development

About: Embperl gives you the power to embed Perl code in your HTML or
XML/XSLT documents and the ability to build your Web site out of small
reusable objects in an OO-style. It can also build taglibs and use
caching. You can also take advantage of hundreds of Perl modules which
have already been written for such tasks as database access to a growing
number of database systems. Embperl has several features especially useful
for creating HTML, including dynamic tables, formfield-processing,
escaping/unescaping, session handling, and more. Embperl is a server-side
tool, which means that it's browser-independent. It can run in various
ways: under mod_perl, as a CGI script, or offline.

Changes: Beside some small fixes, this release adds support for Apache 2.2
and a dump meta command which simplifies debugging.

[013] - Firewall Builder 2.0.11
  by Vadim Kurland (http://freshmeat.net/users/vkurland/)
  Sat, Apr 8th 2006 23:54

System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Firewall Builder consists of a GUI and set of policy compilers for
various firewall platforms. It helps users maintain a database of objects
and allows policy editing using simple drag-and-drop operations. The GUI
and policy compilers are completely independent, which provides for a
consistent abstract model and the same GUI for different firewall
platforms. It currently supports iptables, ipfilter, ipfw, OpenBSD pf,
Cisco PIX, and FWSM.

Changes: This is a bugfix release. It fixes a bug that caused the firewall
script to break during transfer to the firewall if any of the rule or
object comments used non-English UTF-8 characters. The generated firewall
script will properly load iptables modules on 2.6 kernels. A few other
minor bugs have been fixed. The code compiles with g++ 4.1.

  Sat, Apr 8th 2006 13:15

Text Processing
Text Processing :: Linguistic
Utilities

About: Msort is a program for sorting files in sophisticated ways. Records
need not be single lines. Key fields may be selected by position, tag, or
character range. For each key, distinct exclusions, multigraphs,
substitutions, and a sort order may be defined. Comparisons may be
lexicographic, numeric, numeric string, hybrid, random, by string length,
angle, date, time, or ISO8601 timestamp. Optional keys are supported.
Msort uses the Unicode character set and provides full Unicode
case-folding. The basic program has a somewhat complex command line
interface, but may be driven by an optional GUI.

Changes: On systems using glibc, it is now possible to specify that
comparisons on a particular key are to follow the collation rules for a
locale rather than supplying one's own sort order definition. A bug that
prevented multigraph definitions from affecting string length has been
fixed.

  Sat, Apr 8th 2006 13:05

Security
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Nuface is a Web-based administration tool that generates Edenwall,
NuFW, or simple Netfilter firewall rules. It features a high level
abstraction on the security policy set by the administrator, and works
internally on an XML data scheme. Its philosophy is to let you agglomerate
subjects, resources, or protocols into meta-objects, and use those meta
objects to generate ACLs, which are then interpreted as netfilter rules by
Nupyf, the internal XML parser. This tool may easily be extended to support
firewall implementations other than Netfilter.

Changes: A small bug was fixed in the "quick save and apply" feature,
which prevented it from working if the session hadn't been saved before.

System :: Archiving :: Packaging

About: The RPM Package Manager (RPM) is a powerful command line driven
package management system capable of installing, uninstalling, verifying,
querying, and updating software packages. Each software package consists
of an archive of files along with information about the package like its

files. These development files will simplify the process of writing
programs which manipulate RPM packages and databases and are intended to
make it easier to create graphical package managers or any other tools
that need an intimate knowledge of RPM packages in order to function.

Changes: Package erasures can be ordered as well as installs. Support was
added for SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512, RIPEMD-160, and RIPEMD-128. Support
for tar payloads was added. A change to file fingerprints that broke disk
space checking and led to certain files being removed incorrectly was
reverted. File integrity digests were paramterized so that distributions
can choose a digest appropriate to their security needs.

  by artemv (http://freshmeat.net/users/artemv/)
  Sat, Apr 8th 2006 23:30

Communications :: File Sharing
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search

About: Sharehound is a file systems indexer and Google-like searcher. It
currently supports SMB file shares (i.e. MS Windows-based network shares
are supported). The Web UI is used for search and crawl monitoring. Files
and directories are indexed and searched by their paths and some other
external attributes, not contents. Historical data (deleted files and
offline hosts information) is indexed, which allows you to have
full-fledged RSS notifications about added, changed, and deleted files in
search results.

Changes: This release brings back sorting, which was switched off in
v1.0.9alpha. search.properties now have a new sorting.limit property (set
to 10000). Previously, this was specified in JSP. A duplicate paging
header was removed for the case when all search results fit on one page.

  Sat, Apr 8th 2006 11:59

Software Development :: Code Generators
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: XCC is a tool for building XML format parsers. One way to describe
what XCC does is by analogy with a generic parser generator, e.g. yacc or
bison. Yacc needs a lexical analyzer to function properly, and that
lexical analyzer is usually built with (f)lex. In the XML world, there are
a few packages which fill in the role of lex (expat and libxml are the most
known), but the high-level grammar parsing is usually done by a
hand-written code; writing such a parser is a tedious and error-prone
task. XCC was created to help developers in writing reliable
easy-to-understood parsers for handling complex XML-based grammars.

Changes: This release features an autotoolized build process, provides
configurations for several packaging schemes, a man page, and a few minor
fixes.
