About: BalanceNG is a modern software IP load balancing solution. It is
small, fast, and easy to use and setup. It offers session persistence,
different distribution methods (Round Robin, Random, Hash, and Least
Resource) and a customizable UDP health check agent in source code. It
supports VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol) to set up high
availability configurations on multiple nodes. It integrates pcap packet
dumping for debugging purposes and allows the implementation of a
"transparent forensic logging bridge".
Changes: Layer 3 link load balancing capabilities have been added. The

[006] - cgdb 0.6.2
by Robert Rossi (http://freshmeat.net/users/bobbybrasko/)
Sun, Apr 9th 2006 20:38
Software Development :: Debuggers
About: cgdb is a lightweight, but fully functional curses frontend to gdb.
The goal of cgdb is to be lightweight and responsive, not encumbered with
unnecessary features. The interface retains the familiar GDB text-based
interface with 100% of the original functionality. The interfaces also
provide additional features, such as a source code window, shortcut keys,
visual setting of breakpoints, regex searching capabilities, and more.
Changes: This release should run on Solaris 2.5 again. A bug in the
configure script has been fixed. It was possible for readline to choose
the wrong termcap library because of a bad autoconf macro that CGDB was
using. This could potentially cause the screen to get corrupted. A bug in
the syntax highlighter for C strings has been fixed. A line like char *s =
"\""; would cause the highlighter to break. The message 'CGDB had
unexpected results, ...' will no longer be displayed when a breakpoint
cannot be parsed.

[012] - DenyHosts 2.4
by Phil Schwartz (http://freshmeat.net/users/phil_schwartz/)
Sun, Apr 9th 2006 07:59
About: DenyHosts is a script intended to help Linux system administrators
thwart ssh server attacks. DenyHosts scans an ssh server log, updates
/etc/hosts.deny after a configurable number of failed attempts from a
rogue host is determined, and alerts the administrator of any suspicious
logins.
Changes: This version adds the PURGE_THRESHOLD setting (defaulting to 0,
or "none"), which defines the maximum times a host will be purged. Once
this amount has been exceeded, then this host will no longer be purged. A
SYSLOG_REPORT option was added, which, if enabled, will send the denied
hosts report to syslog (in addition to or instead of email, depending on
your other settings). A fix for restricted usernames was also added.

between tables or files and processes and it runs processes in parallel
according to these metadata. It can run with or without a SQL database
server. A process can be any program, not just a database statement.
Changes: The work from previous release was aimed at removing bugs,
finding memory leaks, and increasing user friendliness. A stress test was
written and run with a java profiler. The console is now more comfortable
because it uses the jline library, and many commands throw nicer errors.
The speed of the server was also dramatically increased. Better
diagnostics of problems are provided.

About: KisKis (Keep It Secret! Keep It Safe!) is an easy-to-use password
manager. It allows the user to manage passwords for many different
purposes, including network or Internet accounts, credit-card pin-numbers,
and password-secured files. The accounts can be grouped hierarchically
within a tree structure. Each account can be described by multiple
attributes (such as user name or URL), file attachments, and comments. The
history of each password change can be tracked. All passwords are stored in
a single XML file using OpenPGP messages.
Changes: Data can be exported to XHTML, CSV, and XML. Users can also
define and call their own XSL stylesheets. SecuredFiles can be encrypted
and decrypted via a button with the given account password. Multiple
encryption algortihms can be used (BLOWFISH, AES, CAST5). All text fields
have their own context menu for copy and open actions. The new command
line option "-lastFile" will open the last opened file on startup. Some
bugs were fixed.

About: Leafnode is a news server, suitable for small, limited-bandwidth
sites with only a few users (and useful for offline news reading).
Leafnode keeps track of which groups are being read and downloads only
articles in those groups. Leafnode has been designed to require no
maintenance and to be easy to set up.
Changes: Non-expiring newsgroups are now offered even after upstream
deletion. noactive=0 and nodesc=0 now work properly. Unterminated lines
are permitted in regular files. Applyfilter unfolds headers before
matching, and no longer removes bodyless messages. Several logging bugs
were fixed. Delaybody download markers are handled more carefully. Several
updates were made to the filtering documentation, INSTALL file, and
fetchnews manual page. There is now a -debuginfo package.

Information Management
Information Management :: Records Management
About: Magellan Metasearch is a modular meta search engine, enabling users
to monitor as many search engines as they want. It provides a complex query
language with standard boolean operators, meta-operators (to search through
pages' metadata), and proximity operators. This language enables users to
perform far more complex queries than what common search engines currently
support. It can be fed any custom sources, since its abstraction layer
manages the search results and their meta tags in a uniform way. In
conjunction with the local process scheduler (such as "cron"), Magellan
enables you to save your requests and replay them later automatically; new
results are sent through email and RSS in realtime. Magellan also provides
full anonymity through smart multi-proxy support.
Changes: A new online update mechanism has been added, allowing users to
interactively download new sources from a central server. The GUI has
been redesigned in order to shorten navigation paths for the most common
tasks (adding / editing a request). The heuristic extraction code has
been improved, so as to better parse HTML pages and to decode search
results using non-ASCII character sets. RSS links are now limited by
default to the 500 last indexed items. A command line switch has been
added that allows users to automagically download source code updates.

About: VRPE (Video Related Picture Editor) is a GUI frontend for
batch-manipulating images using ImageMagick, MPlayer, and transcode. A
preview of the previous, currently selected, and next frame is shown.
Different effects can be created from a selectable range of images. Video
files can be imported using MPlayer and exported using MEncoder. You also
can import single images. It's possible to effect the appearance of
slowing down the video by morphing iteration frames. Another effect is the
"crop" feature of ImageMagick.
Changes: The video bit rate of the exported video can be set. One can
remove image ranges from an imageset. The working directory is now chosen
after import or before export, not statically in the preferences. One
doesn't have to choose "Import video" again if the directory was not
empty. There has been a lot of cleanup, and the GUI has been slightly
reworked. imageset tab handling has been added. Loaded images/videos are
now put into a new imageset. Image loading has been optimized. Now only
one image (the new one) is loaded, rather than all 3. This improves

About: xCHM is a cross-platform GUI frontend for CHMLIB, written with
wxGTK. It is able to display the topics tree, work with displayed pages
history, print the current page, work with bookmarks, change fonts and
fast search through all the pages of the loaded .chm document. Being
indirectly dependent on GTK+, the possibility of changing GTK+ skins makes
xCHM theme-friendly.
Changes: A final fix was made for the problem with relative paths inside a
CHM.

Desktop Environment
Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals
About: The xterm program is the standard terminal emulator for the X
Window System. It provides DEC VT102/VT220 and Tektronix 4014 compatible
terminals for programs that can't use the window system directly. If the
underlying operating system supports terminal resizing capabilities (for
example, the SIGWINCH signal in systems derived from 4.3bsd), xterm will
use the facilities to notify programs running in the window whenever it is
resized.
Changes: Several minor bugfixes. The most important is Red Hat #186935.
