[001] - Basilisk II 1.0-Pre (20060501)
by Gwenole Beauchesne (http://freshmeat.net/users/gbeauche/)
Mon, May 1st 2006 13:44
System :: Emulators
About: Basilisk II is a free, portable, Open Source 68k Mac emulator. It
requires a copy of a 512K or 1MB Mac ROM and a copy of MacOS 7.x or 8.x to
run.
Changes: The emulator now supports up to 1 GB of Mac memory. Mac OS idle
wait is implemented so that the host processor is used only when
necessary. A crash with the AppleShare extension has been fixed. SLiRP
network emulation performance is improved. Ported to Mac OS X for Intel.

[002] - booh 0.8.6
by Guillaume Cottenceau (http://freshmeat.net/users/gcottenc/)
Mon, May 1st 2006 18:36
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
About: Booh is a static Web-album generator. It takes one or several
series of photos and videos, and automatically builds static Web pages to
browse them, creating thumbnails, etc. It features automatic rotation of
portrait images, support for videos, preloading, sub-albums support,
themability, a powerful GUI for editing, and more.
Changes: This release adds the ability to split thumbnails on several
pages, is fully compatible with browsers with no Javascript support,
automatically chooses the best images size with the browser window size,
doesn't do Javascript key shortcuts when modifiers are pressed (control,
alt, shift) which should avoid overriding usual keyboard shortcuts to move
back and forth in history, adds gamma correction, hopefully fixes remaining
potential aborts due to missing/wrong thread synchronization, and
dramatically improves HTML generating speed (a typical regeneration of
album goes down from 28.5 secs to 5.0 secs).

Software Development :: Libraries
About: BuGLe is a tool for debugging applications that use OpenGL. It
supports the validation of calls, breakpoints on calls or sets of calls,
examination of state, logging of calls, and more.
Changes: This release fixes a nasty bug (introduced in 0.0.20060416) that
causes the trace filterset to crash on certain calls, and may cause other
spurious behavior. All users of 0.0.20060416 should upgrade.

by James Sella (http://freshmeat.net/users/sella/)
Mon, May 1st 2006 22:04
Internet
System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking
About: CBLM is a high performance latency (one-way and round-trip),
packet loss, and jitter monitoring probe. When run on two or more
servers, a full mesh of connections is automatically set up between the
probes, between which UDP packets are transmitted. Statistics are
collected and stored within a MySQL database.
Changes: The program was completely rewritten in C. The PHP front-end was
rewritten and a configurable display matrix was added. Support for ToS
markings and for one-way latency was added. A man page was included for
cblmd. Loss of connectivity to the MySQL database is now handled
gracefully. Support for real-time addition and removal of probes was
added. Automatic propagation of preference changes was added. ToS rewrite
errors are now tracked. GNU autotools is now used. Internal tracking of
features can now be disabled. UDP checking processing was disabled.

[007] - Cgiapp.class.php 1.9.0 (Stable)
by Matthew Weier O'Phinney (http://freshmeat.net/users/weierophinney/)
Mon, May 1st 2006 21:55
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: Cgiapp.class.php is a port of CGI::Application to PHP. It utilizes
Smarty as its default templating engine, much as CGI::Application uses
HTML::Template, due to its prevalence and acceptance in the PHP community.
Due to PHP's built-in session support, it also adds two methods, s_param()
and s_delete(), to handle session parameters. A number of static methods
have also been included to facilitate error handling and array/hash
conversion.
Changes: Strange issues were noticed when overloading applications,
particularly in the behaviour of cgiapp_postrun(). As nobody has
introduced any third party plugins and the HTML_QuickForm plugin has
stagnated, this plugin functionality has been removed.

[009] - Daikon 4.2.5
by Jeff Perkins (http://freshmeat.net/users/jhpnez/)
Mon, May 1st 2006 21:56
Documentation
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
About: Daikon is an implementation of dynamic detection of likely
invariants. An invariant is a property (such as "x=2*y+5" or
"this.next.prev = this" or "myarray is sorted by <") that holds at a
certain point or points in a program. Invariants are often seen in assert
statements, documentation, and formal specifications. Invariants can be
useful in program understanding and a host of other applications. Daikon
runs a program, observes the values that the program computes, and then
reports properties that were true over the observed executions. It can
detect properties in Java, C, C++, Perl, and IOA programs, in spreadsheet
files, and in other data sources.
Changes: Some enhancements were made. The list of modified and unmodified
variables in DBC and JML output is now more accurate. A configuration
option was added to control the method by which the tool determines
variable comparability. The treatment of values near zero with fuzzy
comparisons has been changed.

System :: Filesystems
About: ext2hide allows the user to save and restore an arbitrary number of
files to and from the reserved space in an ext2/3 filesystem's primary and
backup superblocks. Using ext2hide, you can use this reserved section to

invisible to normal filesystem utilities, but still residing in permanent
storage on disk. This can be useful for passwords, public keys, anything
you like.
Changes: Extreme warning options were added, and all relevant warnings
were fixed. Minor signed/unsigned comparison/assignment/function return
issues were fixed. Shadowing of the global "cfg" variable was fixed.
Variable typing issues for printf were fixed. SIGINT trapping was added
for Build script cleanup. The Makefile was changed to call Build script
for the "all" target. The source is now declared as gnu99 to allow long

Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: KatchTV is an "Internet TV" application for KDE. It makes it easy
to subscribe to "TV" channels from all over the Internet in the form of
podcasts, so that you can browse channels, download shows, and watch them,
all from one convenient interface. It is very similar to Democracy TV, but
focuses on KDE integration, using KHTMLPart and embedded players such as
kaffeine. It's much faster and lighter on resources if you run a KDE
desktop without GTK apps. Installation is easy as long as your
distribution has PyKDE and PyQt.
Changes: Scrollbars have been removed from the player page. The browser is
prevented from loading raw data for unrecognised files. Many more feed
types are handled more reliably. A timeout when parsing slow feeds has
been added. Startup time has been dramatically improved. Better last
update time for new feeds, so they're updated correctly. A trivial printf
formatting problem that was preventing some downloads has been fixed.

Python.
Changes: The report generator was improved. Fields can resize dynamically
depending on the text size or font. Encoding handling was improved. The
query editor was improved. It handles outer and inner joins (as far as the
SQL server supports it). The drivers PARADOX, SQLITE3, SQLITE2, and MDB (MS

Changes: This version contains lots of fixes and code cleanups. On the
functional side, this release adds playlist sorting by setting one of the
predefined sort order criteria and a new track(list) search implementation
with user definable predicates. Browsing while on the go was speeded up by
writing out type 52 MHODs; this may also result in smaller gaps between

by Jan Engelhardt (http://freshmeat.net/users/jengelh/)
Mon, May 1st 2006 10:08
Security
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux
About: The MultiAdmin security framework kernel module provides a means to
have multiple "root" users with unique UIDs. This bypasses collation order
problems with NSCD, allows you to have files with unique owners, and
allows you to track the quota usage for every "real" user. It also
implements a "sub-admin", a partially restricted root user who has full
read-only access to most subsystems, but write rights only to a limited
subset, for example writing to files or killing processes only of certain
users.
Changes: Most LSM hooks have been collapsed, and unused arguments have
been removed. capable() was slightly changed, which made the patch
smaller. The MultiAdmin module and kernel patch were updated to
2.6.17-rc3.

[044] - otl 0.42
by david a thompson (http://freshmeat.net/users/thomp/)
Mon, May 1st 2006 15:44
Text Processing :: General
About: otl is intended to convert a text file to a HTML or XHTML file. It
is different than many other text-to-HTML programs in that the input
format (by default a simple highly readable plain text format) can be
customized by the user, and the output format (by default XHTML) can be
user-defined. It can process complex structures such as ordered and
unordered lists (nested or not), and add custom "headers" and "footers" to
documents. The conversion utilizes Perl regex, adding quite a bit of
flexibility and power to the conversion process. Since both the syntax of
the source file and of the output can be readily customized, otl in theory
can be used for many types of conversions. The package also includes
tag-remove, a script for stripping HTML/XHTML-ish tags from documents.
Changes: When otl processes a simple text input file, it now also looks
for text formatted as a table and generates the corresponding HTML markup
in the output. In addition, some minor bugs were fixed and the code was
cleaned up, so Perl is happy with running under "use strict".

Changes: This release brings two major bugfixes, several small tweaks and
smaller fixes, and a revised interface to storable states. The first
important bugfix reintroduces code that was lost with versions 0.10.0 and
0.10.1 due to an internal overoptimization. The second major fix solves an
issue when re2c is used with the -b flag with complex rules where it would

Text Editors :: Emacs
Text Editors :: Integrated Development Environments (IDE)
About: SXEmacs is a highly customisable, extensible, self-documenting
real-time display editor and IDE. It is a fork of the excellent and very
popular XEmacs.
Changes: The biggest change this release is the addition of network server
sockets, making it possible to listen for incoming TCP/UDP connections.
Support for various audio drivers such as OSS, NAS, ESD, Polypaudio, ALSA,
aRts, and Jack was added. OpenSSL routines that operate directly on files
were added. Embedable keyboard macros were added. Double linked lists and
bloom filters were implemented. Image display via libWand is now possible.
A very fast recursive implementation of 'directory-files' was added. Athena
is now the default toolkit. All 'enable' configure options are now 'with'
options.

About: Test::Parser is a collection of parsers for different test output
file formats. These parse the data into a general purpose data structure
that can then be used to create reports, do post-processing analysis, etc.
It can also export tests in SpikeSource's TRPI test description XML
language.
Changes: This release adds a new parser for the the Linux Hotplug CPU test
suite (lhcs_regression).

[068] - Timer Applet 1.3.1
by Jimmy Do (http://freshmeat.net/users/jimmydo/)
Mon, May 1st 2006 03:55
Desktop Environment :: Gnome
About: Timer Applet is a countdown timer applet for the GNOME panel. You
can quickly set a timer and be notified when it finishes. The applet uses
a subtle animation and libnotify for notifications, so it lets you
continue working while keeping you aware that the timer has finished. You
can also add multiple Timer Applets to the panel to have different timers
running simultaneously. Timer Applet is small, unobtrusive, and follows
the GNOME Human Interface Guidelines.
Changes: libnotify support was added. The timer now uses a pulsing button
animation rather than a dialog to indicate that a timer has finished. A
libnotify notification balloon also pops up momentarily. The applet now
hides the Presets menu if it's empty. New translations were added for
Esperanto (eo), Finnish (fi), Italian (it), and Korean (ko). Lots of code
refactoring and clean up was done. Timer Applet now requires GTK+ 2.8 or
later and libnotify 0.3.0 or later.

Software Development :: Disassemblers
About: Udis86 is an easy-to-use minimalistic disassembler library
(libudis86) for the x86 and x86-64 (AMD64) range of instruction set
architectures. The primary intent of the design and development of udis86
is to aid software development projects that entail binary code analysis.
Changes: This release adds new instructions from AMD Manuals (Rev 3.11,
Dec 2005). It has a new API that allows inspection of disassembled
instructions at a very detailed level. The CVS includes a test suite for
different modes.

[070] - Unimaginatively-named Attendance 1.8.0
by Sam Clippinger (http://freshmeat.net/users/samc_silence_org/)
Mon, May 1st 2006 13:47
Information Management
About: Attendance is a Web application for taking and tracking attendance
records online. It is perfect for volunteer groups, especially
youth-oriented groups, where participation counts for some kind of credit.
Attendance allows you to categorize the roster and hide inactive members.
It allows you to create "attributes" to track additional information on
each attendance record (e.g. "Late"). It creates several printable
reports.
Changes: This version adds protection to all forms to prevent double
submission due to accidentally refreshing the page. Most of the other
changes are code refactoring and minor bugfixes.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
Software Development :: Version Control :: CVS
About: ViewVC (formerly known as ViewCVS) is a Python/CGI-based system for
viewing and interacting with Subversion and CVS repositories through your
Web browser. It can browse directories, view changelogs, generate diffs,
view arbitrary revisions, and display annotated ("blame") listings. It has
full support for tags and branches, and contains a database-backed query
system like Bonsai. It was initially based on the cvsweb work by Henner
Zeller, but has been ported to Python and dramatically enhanced.
Changes: This release represents over five years of effort since the last
minor release. It brings not just a new name for the product, but also
many major changes, including support for Subversion repositories, the
ability to run under MS Windows, strict XHTML output, mod_python support
(under Apache), ASP support (under IIS), and integrated commit metadata
query and RSS feed support.

[073] - Zero Install Injector 0.20
by Thomas Leonard (http://freshmeat.net/users/tal197/)
Mon, May 1st 2006 05:16
Internet
Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
About: The Zero Install Injector makes it possible for users to install
software easily and without the need for root privileges. It takes the URL
of a program's interface description and chooses suitable versions of the
program and all of its dependencies (also identified by URLs) according to
the user's policy settings (eg. "stable", "testing", "minimal network use",
etc). The chosen versions are downloaded and cached and the program is run,
using environment variables to let it find the components.
Changes: Support for "recipes" was added, making it easier to patch
existing binary archives without hosting the whole result yourself. It may
also help when porting klik packages. Support for SHA256 secure hashes on
manifests is now provided. Programs can specify the range of versions of a
library that they support and the injector will choose one within the
range. Debian packages can be unpacked. Many other small improvements were
made.
