  Wed, May 3rd 2006 04:48

Office/Business :: Financial
Office/Business :: Financial :: Investment

About: beancounter enables stockmarket data analysis and performance
evaluation. It has two main modes. The first is data gathering - both
current data (e.g. closing prices, high, low, volume etc.) and historical
price data can be retrieved efficiently using multiple securities per
requests, and stored in an SQL database (PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQLite are
supported) via easy command line operations. The second mode is data
analysis, based on the previously stored data. This comprises various
performance reports, as well as a Value-at-Risk analysis. beancounter is
implemented as a Perl module, and a Perl command-line frontend to the
module. It supports different stock markets from around the globe, foreign
exchange rates, US mutual funds, and US options.

Changes: Historical backpopulation now also adjusts closes, and the
rpm.spec file has been updated.

About: BMP is an audio player that tries to maintain a stable audio
playback core with a powerful, yet easy-to-use remote API using DBus,
while also providing a skinned, yet easy and understandable user interface
with the core GUI.

Changes: This is a patch release in the 0.14.x series. Bugs regarding the
configuration of the audio backend (and producing possible crashes) were
fixed. Code that allows the main window to be present above the playlist
window was backported from the 0.20 development code. Shoutcast stream
listing was partially adapted to the new Shoutcast API (full access to the
Shoutcast YP is currently only available in BMPx SVN trunk HEAD / 0.20).
Drag'n'Drop of files/folders from Konqueror (and potentially other file
managers) to BMPx was fixed.

  Wed, May 3rd 2006 14:27

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management :: Link Checking

About: Checkbot is a tool to verify links on a set of HTML pages. Checkbot
can check a single document, or a set of documents on one or more servers.
Checkbot creates a report which summarizes all links which caused some
kind of warning or error.

Changes: This release doesn't throw errors for links that cannot be
expected to be valid all the time (e.g. the classid attribute of an object
element). it has better fallbacks for some cases where the HEAD request
does not work. More classes and IDs have been added to allow more styling
of results pages (including an example CSS file). XHTML compliance is
ensured. There are better checks for optional dependencies.

[015] - Doodle 0.6.5
  by Christian Grothoff (http://freshmeat.net/users/grothoff/)
  Wed, May 3rd 2006 00:53

Desktop Environment :: Tools
Information Management
Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models

About: Doodle is a desktop search engine for Linux. It searches your hard
drive for files using pattern matching on meta-data. It extracts
file-format specific meta-data using libextractor and builds a suffix tree
to index the files. The index can then be searched rapidly. It is similar
to locate, but can take advantage of information such as ID3 tags. It is
possible to do full-text indexing using the appropriate libextractor
plugins. It also supports using FAM to keep the database up-to-date.

Changes: This release fixes one minor bug in which doodled did not react
properly to signals. It also eliminates database verification in the
doodled startup phase, since it takes too long. Out-of-process execution
of libextractor is enabled because it is more resilient. A translation to
Swedish was added.

Communications
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: Drupal is a modular content management system, forum, blogging and
community engine. It is database driven and can be used with MySQL, MySQLi
and PostgreSQL. Its features include (but are not limited to) discussion
forums, Web-based administration, theme support, a submission queue,
content rating, content versioning, taxonomy support, user management with
a fine-grained permission system based on user roles (groups), error
logging, support for content syndication, locale support, and much more.
It is considered to be an excellent platform for developers due to its
clean code and extensibility, and it can also be used as a Web application
framework.

Changes: Multiple Block Regions: you can now dynamically specify as many
block placement locations as you want. Free tagging functionality is now
built into the taxonomy system. A Site-Wide Contact Form allows you to
easily enable a contact form page that will let you easily collect
feedback from your site visitors. Aggregator now supports Atom. The search
module indexer is now smarter and more robust. The forms API has been
refactored to make it possible to alter, extend, or theme any form in
Drupal.

[018] - eCryptfs 0.1.6
  by mhalcrow (http://freshmeat.net/users/mhalcrow/)
  Wed, May 3rd 2006 17:25

Security :: Cryptography
System :: Filesystems

About: eCryptfs is an POSIX-compliant enterprise-class stacked
cryptographic filesystem for Linux. It is derived from Erez Zadok's
Cryptfs, implemented through the FiST framework for generating stacked
filesystems. It extends Cryptfs to provide advanced key management and
policy features. It stores cryptographic metadata in the header of each
file written, so that encrypted files can be copied between hosts; the
file will be decryptable with the proper key, and there is no need to keep
track of any additional information aside from what is already in the
encrypted file itself. Think of it as a sort of "gnupgfs.'' It is a native
Linux filesystem, and can be built and distributed as a stand-alone kernel
module for Linux 2.6.15 or higher.

Changes: Fixes a sparse file handling bug that was cropping up in certain
circumstances when calling lseek(). Allows encrypted files to move between
hosts with differing page sizes without any modification to the files.

[029] - HTML Forms generation and validation 2006.05.03
  by Manuel Lemos (http://freshmeat.net/users/mlemos/)
  Wed, May 3rd 2006 05:20

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: HTML Forms generation and validation is a PHP class that generates
HTML forms supporting many built-in validation types on server and client
sides. It prevents security attacks by discarding spoofed values, has
multiple submit protection, outputs HTML for fields displayed as fully
accessible or in read-only mode, and has field value filtering based on
regular expressions. It can be extended with custom input control plug-in
classes. AJAX based form submission, automatic vertical layout renderer,
Calendar date, CAPTCHA, and linked select plug-in controls are available.

Changes: Changing parts of the page of a form being submitted with the
AJAX plug-in was simplified. Now it can be done in one line to provide
feedback when the form is being submitted, while it is being processed by
the Web server, or when the communication times out. A bug in loading
input values that have different ID and NAME attributes was fixed.

  Wed, May 3rd 2006 06:19

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: JUCE is an all-encompassing C++ class library for developing
cross-platform applications. It's particularly good for creating
highly-specialised user interfaces and for handling graphics and sound.
The intended users are developers who are building large, complex
applications in C++ and who would like to use just one clean, high-level
API rather than a bunch of different libraries for different purposes or
platforms. Its features include fully lightweight components with
transparency and effects, classes for strings, containers, XML, streams,
file handling, messaging, and event queues, vector graphics, a custom font
engine, image manipulation, OpenGL support, low-latency audio I/O using
CoreAudio, DSound and ASIO, audio buffers and nodes, MIDI file and event
manipulation, Internet streams, undo/redo support, and more.

Changes: The big new addition in this release is "Application commands",
which is a command dispatching mechanism for linking actions to menus,
keys, buttons, etc. Many other small bugfixes and features are also
included, such as named threads, better UTF-8 support for XML parsing, and
Linux UI fixes for KDE.

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP

About: Openmailadmin is a little administration interface to every
complete IMAP mail server daemon. It supports every feature IMAP provides,
and fits in most MTA configurations. A key feature is the non-standard,
generic administration hierarchy which not only seperates "normal users"
from "administrators", but enables the mailserver-master to create
instances between them. You will be able to let other users create their
own sub-users and thus either share a single mail server between different
organizations or project your company's employee structure. It excels with
features such as regex addresses and folder ACL management.

Changes: The Chinese translation has been revied. Support for CRYPT-hashed
passwords has been dropped. Changes in setup's appearance have been made to
fit smaller screen resolutions. Redundant fields are now hidden in the
installer if IMAP type is "demo". Fixes were made for bugs which prevented
changing a password immediately after having logged in, which prevented
displaying of ACL at demo installations and induced an empty page in the
installer on certain versions of PHP 4.

About: OpenVPN Auth Passwd is a plugin that authenticates OpenVPN users
using the local passwd or shadow files, using a privilege separation
model. The authentication method must be defined in the Makefile prior to

provided in the shadow suite and, on other systems, the getpwnam(3)
function to verify the username/password.

Changes: This release implements a new feature. As the default is to

About: Sman is "The Searcher for Man Pages", an enhanced version of
"apropos" and "man -k". Sman adds several key abilities over its
predecessors, including stemming and support for complex boolean text
searches such as "(linux and kernel) or (mach and microkernel)". It shows
results in a ranked order, optionally with a summary of the manpage with
the searched text highlighted. Searches may be applied to the manpage
section, title, body, or filename. The complete contents of the man page
are indexed. A prebuilt index is used to perform fast searches.

Changes: This release avoids warnings from sman-update. It is more careful
about configuration and temp files. There are changes for Win32 under
