Desktop Environment :: Gnome
Software Development
Text Editors :: Integrated Development Environments (IDE)
About: Anjuta is a versatile Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for
C and C++ in GNU/Linux. It has been written for GTK/GNOME, and features a
number of advanced programming facilities. These include project
management, application wizards, an onboard interactive debugger, and a
powerful source editor with source browsing and syntax highlighting.
Changes: A GtkSourceView based editor, project configuration, and a
Valgrind plugin were added. Tabs may now be dragged and dropped in the
editor. The manual and FAQ were updated. Global tags can now be updated
after installation. Toolbars are remembered on restart. Improved: The tag
manager now knows about classes/namespaces, which should make C++
programming much easier. The devhelp plugin was improved, but it still has
linking problems. Scintilla was updated to version 1.68.

[002] - Aranea framework 1.0-M3
by Taimo (http://freshmeat.net/users/taimo/)
Tue, May 16th 2006 07:33
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: Aranea is a hierarchical Model-View-Controller Web framework that
provides a common, simple approach to building Web application components,
reusing custom or general GUI logic, and extending the framework. The
framework enforces programming using object oriented techniques with POJOs
and provides a JSP tag library that facilitates the programming of Web GUIs
without writing HTML. In addition to being a full-fledged Web framework in
its own right, it provides a powerful and simple component system that
allows the framework to be tailored by configuring the reusable modules
and adding modules only for the missing features.
Changes: This release contains both functional and API improvements and
numerous bugfixes.

Office/Business
About: Barcode Writer in Pure Postscript implements the printing of many
barcode formats entirely within level 2 PostScript, so that the process of
converting the input string into the printed output is performed by the
printer itself. This avoids the need to re-implement the barcode
generation process whenever your language needs change. The project
supports most major barcode formats including EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E,
ISBN, Code 128 (A, B, and C), Code 39, Interleaved 2 of 5, Postnet, Code 2
of 5, and Codabar.
Changes: An encoder for the new OneCode symbology used by the US Postal
Service was added

by Sebien (http://freshmeat.net/users/Sebien/)
Tue, May 16th 2006 00:00
About: BasKet is a desktop organization tool inspired by DropDrawers (from
www.sigsoftware.com). It uses baskets and drawers for organizing various
objects, such as text, URLs, images, sounds, or other documents. Objects
in a basket can be edited, copied, moved, dragged, and so on. This allows
you to stay organized and free your desktop, or to take notes with various
types of content (not only text) in an easy way.
Changes: This release fixed a data loss bug that occurred when dragging
and dropping a note onto itself, which deleted the note or caused the
application to freeze.

[007] - bit 0.2.1
by Rick Vinyard (http://freshmeat.net/users/rvinyard/)
Tue, May 16th 2006 21:31
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Widget Sets
About: bit is a library that makes it easier to dynamically manipulate
data buffers containing fields that do not have octet (byte) boundaries.
An example is the IP header, which is generally dealt with at compile time
via bit fields in a structure. A key feature of the bit library is support
for loading data formats described in XML files and dynamically parsing
those fields at run time. This library was initially created to support
reading various kinds of robotic device I/O (IR sensors, motors), but it
has also been used for run time parsing of IP, TCP, UDP, and RTP headers.
Changes: Some minor bugs were fixed in this release, and bit shift unit
tests were added. Doxygen and graphviz are no longer needed for a default
build, since the docs are now pre-built and distributed under
docs/reference/html.

[032] - Java Parallel Processing Framework 0.17.1
by Laurent Cohen (http://freshmeat.net/users/lolocohen/)
Tue, May 16th 2006 07:31
Scientific/Engineering
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
About: Java Parallel Processing Framework is a set of tools and APIs to
facilitate the parallelization of CPU intensive applications, and
distribute their execution over a network of heterogenous nodes. It is
intended to run in clusters and grids. It features platform independence
thanks to Java 1.5, does not require you to deploy your application
classes to a server, scales up to thousands of nodes, has a built-in
fail-over mechanism on all the framework's components, and has a
monitoring and administration GUI tool to enable remote monitoring of the
server health and server shutdown/restart operations.
Changes: The node security policy file is now part of the driver
distribution in order to have the nodes upload it from the driver. This
will greatly facilitate the deployment of JPPF updates. The nodes'
auto-update is now performed without disconnecting them from the server,
removing the performance hit that occurred in previous versions. A number
of bugs were fixed in the screensaver, making it much more stable.

by anzac (http://freshmeat.net/users/anzac/)
Tue, May 16th 2006 10:57
Internet :: Log Analysis
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
System :: Diagnostics
About: The main purpose of LoFiMo is, as the name states, to monitor log
files. It does this in real time, i.e. shows the contents of log files as
they are changing. The user can connect to LoFiMo with a Web browser or
use the console for plain text output. When using a Web browser, the
output can be formatted with cascading stylesheets, which the user can
define. Thus, it is possible to highlight certain log entries with
different colors and fonts. It is also possible to play sounds or execute
commands (send an email, play sound with a custom player, etc.) when a log
entry matches a filter. LoFiMo can parse Apache style log files and syslog
style log files. Among others, there are filters that can parse iptables
logs and merge multiple log lines of Postfix into a single one.
Changes: This release introduces the property ".noTimestamp" to all
Inputs. If this property is set for an Input, all log entries created from
that Input will be printed without a timestamp from LoFiMo.

[046] - NRL NORM 1.3b8
by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
Tue, May 16th 2006 21:05
System :: Networking
About: NRL NORM is an implementation of NACK-Oriented Reliable Multicast.
The NORM protocol is designed to provide end-to-end reliable transport of
bulk data objects or streams over generic IP multicast routing and
forwarding services. NORM uses a selective, negative acknowledgement
(NACK) mechanism for transport reliability and offers additional protocol
mechanisms to conduct reliable multicast sessions with limited "a priori"
coordination among senders and receivers. The protocol offers a number of
features to allow different types of applications or possibly other higher
level transport protocols to utilize its service in different ways. The
protocol leverages the use of FEC-based repair and other IETF reliable
multicast transport (RMT) building blocks in its design.
Changes: Bugs in NormQuantizeGroupSize() and in receiver congestion
control tracking functions were fixed. The NormGetGrtt() and
NormNodeGetGrtt() functions and the NORM_CC_ACTIVE and NORM_CC_INACTIVE
notifications were added. Bugs in ns-2 support were fixed. FEC parity
segments were modified to be variable size. SERVER* notifications were
renamed to SENDER* for consistancy. Incorrect reporting of nack/suppresed
counts in debug statistics were fixed. The activity timeout for the remote
sender was fixed.

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion
Multimedia :: Video :: Non-Linear Editor
About: VRPE (Video Related Picture Editor) is a GUI frontend for
batch-manipulating images using ImageMagick, MPlayer, and transcode. Video
files can be imported using MPlayer and exported using MEncoder. Video
cutting is possible by selecting, deleting, and inserting image-ranges.
Various effects can be chosen to process the images.
Changes: Imageset handling was finally fixed. Now imagesets should be
removed in a stable manner. A bug in morph.c where there was always one
iteration frame too many was fixed. "Save imageset as..." and "Export
video as..." features were added, so you may change the working directory
before saving. The maximum possible number of iteration frames was
increased, since 100 was far too few.

[068] - Web Performance Suite 3.0
by Michael Czeiszperger (http://freshmeat.net/users/czei/)

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Software Development :: Testing
About: The Web Performance Suite is a suite of testing tools for web
servers, including load testing, web page performance analysis, and coming
in 2006 functional testing and performance monitoring. The statistical
analysis in the Load Testing Module takes your site's performance
criteria, and determines the number of users your Web site can handle.
Because data is collected at the URL level, it not only identifies slow
Web pages, but identifies the particular part of the Web page that caused
the problem. It includes hard-to-find features such as IP spoofing, client
certificates, multiple simultaneous test cases, authentication, SSL
recording and playback, automated analysis, AJAX support, SOAP support,
and more.
Changes: Web Performance Trainer has been totally redesigned, modularized,
and re-christened The Web Performance Suite. The old version was 2.9, so
this one continues with the version numbers at version 3.0. There are too
many new features to mention, but the two largest are the ability to watch
test cases as they play, and the addition of printed/HTML reports.
