[012] - Conary 1.0.15

  Wed, May 17th 2006 22:55

Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.

Changes: The cvc command can use recipe templates to make recipe building
take fewer steps. Cross-compilation has been enhanced with built-in
config.site files. The cvc checkout command can check out multiple source
troves in one invocation. The Conary repository now can validate passwords
against external sources.

  Wed, May 17th 2006 02:07

About: Handy is a small commandline tool to synchronize a Lotus Notes
appointment scheduler with KDE Organizer and a SIEMENS S35/S45 cellphone.
It is able to read the result of the export function of a Lotus Notes
client version 5.x. It converts such a file into a vCal 2.0 file for the
Organizer and can send the appointments to a cellphone over the IR Port or
the serial device.

Changes: A switch was added to omit line feeds in the commands of the
output file. This should make the output file importable on a Palm too.

[030] - JOpt.SDK Tour Optimizer 1.0.5
  by dnaevolutions (http://freshmeat.net/users/dnaevolutions/)
  Wed, May 17th 2006 06:10

Office/Business :: Scheduling
Scientific/Engineering :: Geographical
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: JOpt.SDK is a tour optimization library for Java that uses
specialized genetic algorithms to calculate an optimized allocation of
orders and stops to mobile resources. The algorithm not only provides
tours at minimum costs but also considers an arbitrary set of constraints
for each tour. JOpt solves problems of the same classes as the Travelling
Salesman Problem (TSP) and the Vehicle Routing Problem with Time Windows
(VRPTW).

Changes: This version adds capacity and load control to the optimization
by introducing respective capacity and load vectors for each resource and
node. In order to plan pick up and delivery relations, the algorithm has
been extended to support a predefined order of dedicated route stops.
Total route time is once again properly calculated when planning with
linear spatial distances.

  Wed, May 17th 2006 23:00

Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
Internet
System :: Networking

About: KVpnc is a KDE frontend for various VPN clients. It supports Cisco
VPN (vpnc) and IPSec (FreeS/WAN, racoon). vpnc is a replacement for the
Cisco VPN client, and is used as client for the cisco3000 VPN
Concentrator. FreeS/WAN (OpenS/WAN) is a IPSec client for Linux 2.4.x, and
raccoon is a IPSec client for Linux 2.6.x and *BSD. It also supports PPTP
(pptpclient) and OpenVPN.

Changes: The vpnc script generation, the libcrypt detection, and the vpnc
output parsing are correct now. A option for the peer timeout which is
given from pcf file and a copy action for debug output were added. The
user-definied packet size and user-definied packet size for fragmentation
on the openvpn part can now be set. If the debug level is greater than 1,
then the vpnc arguments will be printed out. The log file will now
synchronize writes. The process handling and the network interface
handling were improved.

Communications :: File Sharing
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
Software Development :: Libraries

About: libextractor is a library used to extract meta-data from files of
arbitrary type. It is designed to use helper-libraries to perform the
actual extraction, and to be trivially extendable by linking against
external extractors for additional file types. The goal is to provide
developers of file-sharing networks, file managers, and WWW-indexing bots
with a universal library to obtain meta-data about files. It includes a
shell-command and bindings for Java (JNI) and Python.

Changes: This release fixes a recently reported buffer overflow in the ASF
plugin. It also fixes another buffer overflow in the Quicktime plugin (by
rewriting it from scratch). The rewrite also improves support for various
Quicktime attributes. The MPEG extractor was changed to use libmpeg2,
fixing a problem with occasionally wrong image dimensions.

  Wed, May 17th 2006 02:09

System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration

About: Monitorix is a lightweight system monitoring tool designed to
monitor as many services as it can. At this time, it monitors from the CPU
load and temperatures to the users on the system. Network device activity,
network service demand, and even the devices' interrupt activity are also
monitored. It uses RRDtool as its logging and graphing back-end. The
current status of any corporate UNIX/Linux server with Monitorix installed
can be accessed via a Web browser.

Changes: The most remarkable improvement in this version is the big code
optimization that reduces, in many cases, up to 50% of the CPU load
average that Monitorix can consume when collecting data. Another important
enhancement is better support for Linux Software RAID devices (/dev/md0,
/dev/md1, etc.). Some bugs has been fixed, mainly when someone decided to
remove the $PORTnn variables from the configuration file.

  Wed, May 17th 2006 13:54

Internet :: Log Analysis
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration

About: pmacct is a small set of IPv4/IPv6 accounting and aggregation
tools. A pluggable architecture allows you to store collected traffic data
into memory tables or SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite 3.x) databases. It
supports fully customizable historical data breakdown, flow sampling,
filtering and tagging, recovery actions, and triggers. Libpcap, NetFlow
v1/v5/v7/v8/v9, and sFlow v2/v4/v5 are supported, both unicast and
multicast. Also, a client program makes it easy to export data to tools
like RRDtool, GNUPlot, Net-SNMP, MRTG, and Cacti.

Changes: A new '-l' option is supported by the pmacct client tool: it
allows you to enable locking of the memory table explicitly. The
pre-tagging infrastructure (with the exclusion of id, ip and filter keys)
and pre_tag_filter configuration directive now feature negations.
Documentation has been updated. Unofficial SUSE RPMs are available.

About: TinyButStrong is a template class for PHP that allows you to
generate HTML pages using MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite in native, and any
other databases. It is possible to design templates using any visual HTML
editor (like Dreamweaver or FrontPage). It features simple block
management, useful display formats, conditional displaying for blocks and
locators, a cache system, and the ability to include other HTML pages and
execute associated scripts. Plug-ins are supported since version 3.0.

Changes: var] fields embedded into parameter script are now correctly
merged. The AfterShow plug-in's event no longer receives bad arguments.
Problems which occurred when plug-in CacheSystem was installed into a sub
script were fixed. Problems with data when using the TBS syntax for sub
items were fixed. You also have to update the plug-in CacheSystem if you
use this version.
