[001] - Andy's PHP Knowledgebase 0.6
  by KeyMonkey (http://freshmeat.net/users/keymonkey/)
  Sun, May 21st 2006 03:05

About: Andy's PHP Knowledgebase is a database-driven knowledge base
management system. It features bookmark friendly URLs, easy search with
browsing by category, article submission, and a professional and
attractive interface. It is intended to be used to store, manage, and
update article content for a knowledge base, but is very customizable and
enables any number of creative uses.

Changes: This release introduces the ability for an author to login,
logout, change password, and reset password. It also includes article
listing, editing, and deleting for article authors. There are also some
changes to article submission, including support for saving articles for
future submission and author details in the kb-admin.

Games/Entertainment
Games/Entertainment :: Arcade

About: In Armagetron, you ride a lightcycle around the game grid. You can
only make sharp turns of 90 degrees and a wall constantly builds up after
you. Make your enemies crash into your wall, but be aware that they are
trying to do the same to you. If you are fast enough, you may be able to
trap them, but the only way to speed up your lightcycle is to drive close
to the dangerous walls. Prepare for exciting strategic preparations
followed by action-packed close combat!

Changes: Some bugs of lesser importance have been fixed since 0.2.8.1.
Under rare circumstances, cycles could pass through each other's trail,
for example. New features include a history for the chat and console input
fields, the ability for spectators to be seen and to chat with each other,
some rudimentary control of players over the team formation using chat
commands, and more tricks for the cycle trail length.

  by James Sella (http://freshmeat.net/users/sella/)
  Sun, May 21st 2006 18:43

Internet
System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking

About: CBLM is a high performance latency (one-way and round-trip),
packet loss, and jitter monitoring probe. When run on two or more
servers, a full mesh of connections is automatically set up between the
probes, between which UDP packets are transmitted. Statistics are
collected and stored within a MySQL database.

Changes: Functions have been reorganized into a more logical set of files.
Out of order and duplicate packet detection and tracking is finished.
Transmit and receive threads have been modified to use a single socket
each. select() is used for send and receive. Different ToS markings must
now be specified as separate arguments. There are DSCP and precedence
options in addition to ToS for easier use. Support has been added for
setting priority at the same time as ToS, DSCP, or precedence. This allows
vconfig to set the VLAN priority separately from the ToS marking. TTL and
fragment knobs have been added. The PHP frontend has been updated.

from various data sources, including EUWAX, Comdirect, Yahoo!, and GCI. It
provides a comprehensive library of technical and mathematical indicator
implementations, like MACD, SMA, EMA, RSI, Williams %R, Correlation, and
more.

Changes: This relase has been significantly enhanced by adding two trade
systems that generate some profit on a variety of stock symbols. A
DefaultReport class now allows you to create simple trade reports. The
new LocalBroker class allows simple, locally simulated trading. A new
helper for sending emails with a single line of code eases distribution

Communications :: Chat :: Internet Relay Chat
Communications :: Ham Radio

About: CWirc is a plugin for the X-Chat IRC client to transmit raw Morse
code over the internet using IRC servers as reflectors. The transmitted
Morse code can be received in near real-time by other X-Chat clients with
the CWirc plugin. CWirc tries to emulate a standard amateur radio rig: it
sends and receives Morse over virtual channels, and it can listen to
multiple senders transmitting on the same channel. Morse code is keyed
locally using a straight or iambic key connected to a serial port, or
using the mouse buttons, and the sound is played through the sound card,
or through an external sounder.

Changes: The automatic Morse code decoder can now be disabled.

About: dao-zero is a tiny Java bean used to reduce the source of a
persistence tier based on Spring's iBatis support. The usual way to use
iBatis in Spring is to write code and invoke the iBatis API explicitly.
dao-zero invokes the iBatis API for the developer automatically, without
the need to write implementation code. It will implement DAO interfaces
automatically and invoke iBatis SQL mapped statements for you. You can use
it to replace your DAO bean class directly.

Changes: This release supports queryWithRowHandler(). The documentation
has been updated for row handler usage and more accurate sample
description.

About: GeSHi is a generic syntax highlighter for PHP that takes any source
code and highlights it in XHTML and CSS. It features case-sensitive or
insensitive highlighting, auto-caps/non-caps of any keyword, an unlimited
scope for styling, the use of CSS in which almost any aspect of the source
can be highlighted, the use of CSS classes to massively reduce the amount
of output code, function-to-URL capabilities, line numbering, and much
more. Over 50 languages are supported, including Java, C, PHP, HTML, CSS,
SQL, Pascal, C++, XML, ASP, and ASM.

Changes: Five new languages were added, bringing the total to 68. A few
minor bugs were fixed. The languages added are Tcl, Winbatch, Groovy, Reg
(Windows Registry), and a "text" language that allows you to utilise
GeSHi's formatting without actually performing a specific language
highlight.

[031] - HAproxy 1.2.14 (Stable)
  by Willy Tarreau (http://freshmeat.net/users/wtarreau/)
  Sun, May 21st 2006 16:59

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
System :: Networking

About: HAproxy is a high-performance and highly-robust TCP/HTTP load
balancer which provides cookie-based persistence, advanced traffic
regulation with surge protection, automatic failover, run-time regex-based
header control, Web-based reporting, advanced logging to help
trouble-shooting buggy applications and/or networks, and a few other
features. Its own event-driven state machine achieves 10,000 hits per
second on modern hardware, even with tens of thousands of simultaneous
connections.

Changes: A new Web reporting interface shows status and statistics for all
servers. Two new options provide advanced dynamic traffic regulation and
surge protection. Hot reconfiguration now works on OpenBSD. Two missing
parenthesis preventing cacheable cookies from being detected and possibly
causing poll() to lose some events have been fixed. All 1.2 versions after
this one will be bugfixes only, and development will go on with the 1.3
branch.

[032] - idioskopos 0.2.0
  by Rick Vinyard (http://freshmeat.net/users/rvinyard/)
  Sun, May 21st 2006 16:08

Software Development

About: idioskopos (Greek: idio- inward, within, private; -skopos look,
aim, target) is a C++ library that simplifies the addition of object
reflection and introspection to C++ classes. It provides classes for
implementing properties (internal storage), reference properties (a
property interface to an externally stored value under your control), and
virtual properties (a property interface created from get and set methods
you supply). The approach taken is intrusive. One advantage is that
special preprocessors are not necessary, either for your own code or for
those that use your code. A disadvantage of an intrusive approach is just
that; it's intrusive, meaning you must explicitly state what class members
are properties and instantiate them in your constructors.

Changes: This release restructures the property hierarchy and adds the
concept of virtual properties in addition to the traditional property
(internal storage) and reference property (external storage) concepts. All
three concepts (properties, reference properties, and virtual properties)
now have classes that enforce read only, write only, or read/write
privileges. Changes have been made to the core classes Idioskopos::Object
and Idioskopos::Introspectable to reflect the hierarchy changes. Finally,
there is a new example, virtual.cpp, illustrating how virtual properties
are created and used.

[035] - JOpt Simple 2.0
  by Paul Holser (http://freshmeat.net/users/pholser/)
  Sun, May 21st 2006 16:38

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: JOpt Simple is a simple, test-driven command line parser for Java
programs. It supports POSIX getopt() and GNU getopt_long().

Changes: This release introduces a "domain-specific language" API for
specifying options for an option parser to recognize. The old methods for
option specification still work; you need not convert to the new methods.
This release adds the ability to specify that option arguments should be
converted to specific types. You can do this either with the old option
specification methods or with the new domain-specific language API.
OptionParser.requiresArg has been deprecated in favor of
OptionParser.requiredArg; the new name seems to read better.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Ripping

About: K-Yamo is an MP3 and Ogg Vorbis tagger with ID3v2 support. It can
store ID3v1, ID3v2.3, or ID3v2.4 tags. It also stores pictures in the
tags. K-Yamo supports multi-file editing. It also cleans up your files
into a structured filesystem tree which makes use of the tags in the
files. Finally, it is a CD ripper with FreeDB support. A MySQL database
can optionally be used for tagging.

Changes: The tag guesser now also sets the edited flag. The guess button
is deactivted when no file is selected. Filter recognition of the tag
guesser was improved when searching for numbers. Trailing and leading
spaces are removed during cleanup. The cleanup stage also replaces
question marks with underscores. A new copy routine that is able to copy
problematic files was added. Directories are checked before ripping a CD.
The ripper now stores the modified values in the MySQL database, instead
of only storing the results from cddb. The encoding is set on all MySQL
queries, so international characters finally work in the database. A
German localization was added.

  Sun, May 21st 2006 01:23

System :: Logging

About: logtail is an AJAX-based logfile download and viewing application.
The logfiles are displayed like in the popular Unix "tail" program. Due to
the AJAX approach, only the changed lines in a logfile are transferred from
the server.

Changes: The code was switched back to the MyFaces JSF implementation, so
logtail now uses only free software. Logtail now allows you to highlight
substrings of a logfile (for example, IP addresses). The code was
refactored a bit. All configuration options were moved to one file. In
web.xml, you now only have to set the path to the config file. A bug with
the logline limiting was fixed. A bug where the last modification time of
a file was always displayed in GMT time was fixed. Code was added to limit
the loglines in a tailing window to a given amout.

  Sun, May 21st 2006 16:44

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Libraries

About: NeatUpload allows ASP.NET developers to stream uploaded files to
disk and allows users to monitor upload progress. It works under Mono's
XSP/mod_mono as well as Microsoft's ASP.NET implementation and features
two custom controls. InputFile allows the user to select a file to upload
and ProgressBar displays the upload progress either inline or in a popup.
ProgressBar even allows users without JavaScript to see upload progress.

Changes: This release fixes the following bugs: filenames were cleared
when using multiple ProgressBars with different Triggers; filenames were
cleared in IE6 when posting after expanding an ExpertTree load-on-demand
node; ProgressBar fallback text was briefly visible while the page was
loading; and NeatUpload assemblies were not marked as CLSCompliant. The
manual also describes workarounds for 2 additional known issues: the
ProgressBar doesn't work with Web gardens/farms, and the Handler returning
false does not block the default action in IE6.

[060] - Plan 9 20060522
  by ems (http://freshmeat.net/users/ems9/)
  Sun, May 21st 2006 16:34

System :: Operating System

About: Plan 9 was born in the same lab where Unix began. Underneath,
though, lies a new kind of system, organized around communication and
naming rather than files and processes. In Plan 9, distributed computing
is a central premise, not an evolutionary add-on. The system relies on a
uniform protocol to refer to and communicate with objects, whether they be
data or processes, and whether or not they live on the same machine or even
similar machines. A single paradigm (writing to named places) unifies all
kinds of control and interprocess signaling.

Changes: Major kernel changes. Medium userspace changes.

  Sun, May 21st 2006 10:14

Text Processing :: Linguistic

About: prbeditor is an editor for Java property resource bundle files. The
application's intent is to help in the localization (l10n) of those
programs that have been internationalized with Java's standard i18n
mechanism. In contrast to other similar tools, it shows the keys and
values of several languages at the same time in a spreadsheet, giving a
global view of the resource files. The tool relies on the application of
regular expresions to organize the keys and filter the visibility of the
files.

Changes: This release has minor bugfixes, updated documentation, and minor
 feature enhancements. Detection of files changed by another application,
a reload-from-disk action, a SaveAs action, sorting of keys, displaying
flags for some languages/countries, and the ability to limit the maximun
number of characters per line when saving have been added.
