[001] - abcm2ps 4.12.18 (Development)
  by Guido Gonzato (http://freshmeat.net/users/goccia/)
  Mon, May 22nd 2006 07:41

Printing

About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.

Changes: Bad vertical offset of some dots on PPC machines was corrected.

Communications :: BBS

About: alph implements and analyzes historical and traditional ciphers and
codes, such as polyalphabetic, substitutional, and mixed employing
human-reconstructable algorithms. It provides a pipe filter interface in
order to encrypt and decrypt block text to achieve transparency. The
program is meant to be used in conjunction with external programs that
transfer data, resulting in transparent encryption or decryption of
information. The program can thus be used as a mail filter, IRC filter, IM
filter, and so on.

Changes: Some improper VERNAM file handling has been fixed and a new
option for file IO has been implemented. Users with older Windows
platforms now have the posibility of using files instead of named pipes.
The manpage has been updated to reflect the changes.

About: Barcode Writer in Pure Postscript implements the printing of many
barcode formats entirely within level 2 PostScript, so that the process of
converting the input string into the printed output is performed by the
printer itself. This avoids the need to re-implement the barcode
generation process whenever your language needs change. The project
supports most major barcode formats including EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E,
ISBN, Code 128 (A, B, and C), Code 39, Interleaved 2 of 5, Postnet, Code 2
of 5, and Codabar.

Internet
Printing
Software Development :: Libraries

About: CUPS provides a portable printing layer for Unix(r)-based operating
systems. It has been developed to promote a standard printing solution for
all Unix vendors and users. CUPS provides the System V and Berkeley
command line interfaces, and uses the Internet Printing Protocol ("IPP")
as the basis for managing print jobs and queues. The Line Printer Daemon
(LPD) Server Message Block (SMB), and AppSocket (a.k.a. JetDirect)
protocols are also supported with reduced functionality. CUPS adds network
printer browsing and PostScript Printer Description ("PPD") based printing
options to support real world printing under UNIX. It includes an image
file RIP that supports printing of image files to non-PostScript printers.
A customized version of GNU Ghostscript 7.05 for CUPS called ESP
Ghostscript is available separately to support printing of PostScript
files within the CUPS driver framework. Sample drivers for Dymo, EPSON,
HP, and OKIDATA printers are included that use these filters.

Changes: This release fixes several build, platform, and printing bugs.

Security
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Systems Administration

About: John the Ripper is a fast password cracker, currently available for
many flavors of Unix (11 are officially supported, not counting different
architectures), DOS, Win32, BeOS, and OpenVMS. Its primary purpose is to
detect weak Unix passwords. It supports several crypt(3) password hash
types which are most commonly found on various Unix flavors, as well as
Kerberos AFS and Windows NT/2000/XP LM hashes. Several other hash types
are added with contributed patches.

Changes: Bitslice DES code for x86-64 that makes use of the 64-bit mode
extended SSE2 with 16 XMM registers has been added for better performance
at DES-based crypt(3) hashes with x86-64 builds on AMD processors. A new
make target for FreeBSD/x86-64 has been added.

[030] - JSEclipse 1.5.2
  by InterAKT (http://freshmeat.net/users/InterAKT/)
  Mon, May 22nd 2006 01:35

Software Development

About: JSEclipse is a JavaScript plug-in for the Eclipse environment. It
is designed to help Web developers edit JavaScript files with ease. It has
built in support for open declarations, error reporting, warning reporting,
code wrapping, and code completion for JavaScript functions and classes and
for JavaDoc. Function and class names are displayed in the Outline panel
for the currently open file.

Changes: All prototype.js and script.aculo.us class extending idioms are
now recognized. Full YAHOO framework support was added. Major performance
improvement were made for content outline (smoother reparsing). A debugger
keyword generates a line breakpoint marker in the editor, instead of an
error. Ctrl+/ no longer toggles a comment, but instead will comment or
uncomment all the lines. Pressing ENTER inside a single line comment
preserves the comment. The state of content outline buttons is now
persistent.

[031] - JUCE 1.31
  by jules (http://freshmeat.net/users/julesRMS/)
  Mon, May 22nd 2006 17:36

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: JUCE is an all-encompassing C++ class library for developing
cross-platform applications. It's particularly good for creating
highly-specialised user interfaces and for handling graphics and sound.
The intended users are developers who are building large, complex
applications in C++ and who would like to use just one clean, high-level
API rather than a bunch of different libraries for different purposes or
platforms. Its features include fully lightweight components with
transparency and effects, classes for strings, containers, XML, streams,
file handling, messaging, and event queues, vector graphics, a custom font
engine, image manipulation, OpenGL support, low-latency audio I/O using
CoreAudio, DSound and ASIO, audio buffers and nodes, MIDI file and event
manipulation, Internet streams, undo/redo support, and more.

Changes: The massive new feature in this release is the first alpha
release of the "Jucer", a tool for designing Juce UI components, and which
generates C++ code. The release also includes many bugfixes and new
classes, in particular a set of property components for showing lists of
property types.

[032] - Kitikat 6.05
  by KitiKat (http://freshmeat.net/users/kitikat/)
  Mon, May 22nd 2006 13:13

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: The Kitikat Java Framework is a powerful but simple Datastore
processing framework. A Datastore represents an in-memory copy of data. A
program may retrieve the data from a data source, such as a relational
database, manipulate the data, and then propagate the updates of the data
back to the original data source or to a different data source. Once the
data is retrieved, it is a disconnected, data source independent version
of the data. A change history of the data is maintained to provide dynamic
updates to a data source, and there are several levels of concurrency
control provided for multi-user environments.

Changes: J2SE 1.5 Code migration. SQL update behavior has been refactored
to be thread safe.

About: MultiTail lets you view one or multiple files like the original
tail program. The difference is that it creates multiple windows on your
console (with ncurses). Merging of 2 or more log files is possible. It can
also use colors while displaying the log files (through regular
expressions) for faster recognition of what is important. It can also
filter lines (again with regular expressions). It has interactive menus
for editing given regular expressions and deleting and adding windows. One
can also have windows with the output of shell scripts and other software.
When viewing the output of external software, MultiTail can mimic the
functionality of tools like 'watch'.

Changes: This release fixes a problem in which MultiTail would continue to
run at maximum CPU usage when the terminal in which it was running was
closed. On FreeBSD, a bug that disabled all colors was fixed. The program
runs on black-and-white terminals again.

[060] - Webalizer Xtended RB13
  by Patrick Frei (http://freshmeat.net/users/pfrei/)

Internet :: Log Analysis

About: Webalizer Xtended is an extension of Webalizer, which adds
additional monthly statistics for all "404 Not Found" errors found in your
server log-file, including the number of the "404 Not Found" requests and
the corresponding 404 URLs. It also fixes truncated user agent strings in
the "User Agents" statistics, so user agent fields can now be grouped more
precisely. It is helpful for detecting and correcting broken links or
invasion attempts.

Changes: After memory reallocation, a non-empty variable sometimes
resulted in unreliable data. This has been fixed.

[061] - WiKID Strong Authentication System 2.1.1-beta.build62
  by nowen (http://freshmeat.net/users/nowen/)
  Mon, May 22nd 2006 08:47

Security
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Networking

About: The WiKID Strong Authentication System is a highly scalable, secure
two-factor authentication system consisting of a server, a token client,
and network clients that connect a service such as a VPN or Web page to
the WiKID server to validate one-time passcodes. The user enters their PIN
into the token client, where it is encrypted and sent to the server. If the
PIN is correct, the encryption valid, and account active, the one-time
passcode is generated, encrypted, and returned to the user. It is simple
to implement and maintain, allows users to be validated automatically,
requires no hardware tokens, has a simple API for application support via
a COM object and Java component, supports multiple domains, and supports
replication for fault tolerance and scalability.

Changes: Minor bugs were fixed. Process checking was improved. The
setenv.sh script was moved to /etc/WiKID.

[062] - xCHM 1.8
  by Razvan Cojocaru (http://freshmeat.net/users/thewhiterabbit/)
  Mon, May 22nd 2006 04:34

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers

About: xCHM is a cross-platform GUI frontend for CHMLIB, written with
wxGTK. It is able to display the topics tree, work with displayed pages
history, print the current page, work with bookmarks, change fonts and
fast search through all the pages of the loaded .chm document. Being
indirectly dependent on GTK+, the possibility of changing GTK+ skins makes
xCHM theme-friendly.

Changes: The "copy link location" code was fixed. The Polish translation
was updated. SPACE and BACKSPACE now work like PAGEUP and PAGEDOWN. A
Win32 MB2WC() bug was fixed. The HHC/HHK parsing code was rewritten from
scratch. Pretty book icons were added to the Win32 content tree.

[063] - XINS 1.4.1 (Stable)
  by Anthony Goubard (http://freshmeat.net/users/agoubard/)
  Mon, May 22nd 2006 04:39

Communications
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Build Tools

About: XINS is a technology used to define, create, and invoke remote
APIs. XINS is specification-oriented. When API specifications are written
(in XML), XINS will transform them to HTML-based documentation and Java
code for both the client-side and the server-side. The communication is
based on HTTP. XINS competes with the complex SOAP technology. Main design
goals include simplicity, scalability, and testability. XINS is not only a
specification technology, but also an application development framework.
It offers transaction logging, unique log documentation, and active code
generation.

Changes: This is a bugfix release. Starting the API no longer freezes if
no runtime properties file is specified. Functional error codes are logged
at the INFO level even if several CAPI jar files are in the classpath. The
copy-nb-files target used to copy NetBeans files for existing projects now
works.

Changes: This release contains the same bugfixes which were done in XINS
1.4.1. XINS now has JMX support to manage the API. A new Ant task that can
be used to call a XINS API has been added. Another Ant task used to execute
a XINS target has been added. Several new targets were added that allow you
to execute some tools on your API (such as PMD, java2html, cobertura, cvs
change log, checksyle, and more).

About: Zeppoo allows you to detect rootkits on the i386 architecture under
Linux by using /dev/kmem and /dev/mem. It can also detect hidden tasks,
modules, syscalls, some corrupted symbols, and hidden connections.
Anti-Rootkits which don't use these methods can be fooled easily.
