[001] - ACE 5.5.1 (Development)
  by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
  Wed, May 24th 2006 00:20

Software Development :: Libraries

About: The ADAPTIVE Communication Environment (ACE) is an object-oriented
(OO) C++ framework that helps you develop and deploy high-performance
networked applications faster and with less code to write and maintain.
ACE is especially useful for systems that use network and/or inter-process
communications and that take advantage of multithreading. While the ACE
source code is free, that's not the only way you save money with ACE.
ACE's wrappers and higher-level patterns help you develop your software
quickly and portably, helping you to complete your projects on time and
within budget.

Changes: This release is compliant with the CORBA 2.6 specification.
Support for attribute exceptions was added. Anonymous namespaces were
added. The connection handler and transport lifetime code were cleaned up.
Issues with handling connections after a write has failed were fixed. A
priority inversion bug for real-time connections was fixed. A multicast
interoperability bug was fixed. Visual C 7.1 compilation bugs for the
Windows platform were fixed. A race condition in connector was fixed. Many
other minor bugs were fixed.

[008] - Coherent Mail Gateway 0.13.0
  by Thomas Worthington (http://freshmeat.net/users/nagora/)
  Wed, May 24th 2006 10:03

Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: POP3

About: Coherent Mail Gateway is intended to be a very easy to set up MTA
using SMTP and POP3. Greylisting is used on the SMTP daemon to reduce
spam. In addition, quite a lot of checks on the validity of information
from the SMTP client (such as claimed server name and sender) are carried
out, and anyone caught telling lies is disconnected. Grey-, black-, and
white-listing are supported, as well as (optionally) ClamAV and Spamhaus.
The target market is users with static IP addresses. Others can use the
system, but its value will be limited to outgoing email.

Changes: The SMTP server now dynamically bans persistently abusive IPs for
a period. Performance is enhanced, and users may be given passwords to
relay through the SMTP server from remote locations.

[027] - HTML Forms generation and validation 2006.05.24
  by Manuel Lemos (http://freshmeat.net/users/mlemos/)
  Wed, May 24th 2006 02:58

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: HTML Forms generation and validation is a PHP class that generates
HTML forms supporting many built-in validation types on server and client
sides. It prevents security attacks by discarding spoofed values, has
multiple submit protection, outputs HTML for fields displayed as fully
accessible or in read-only mode, and has field value filtering and
reformatting. It can be extended with custom input control plug-in
classes. AJAX based form submission, automatic vertical layout renderer,
Calendar date, CAPTCHA, Google Maps world location selection, and linked
select plug-in controls are available.

Changes: This release introduces a new custom input plug-in that lets the
user choose world location by pointing to it on a map presented with the
Google Maps API. The custom input retrieves the latitude and longitude
coordinates of the selected location. A new function was added to the main
forms class to generate the necessary HTML code to insert in the forms page
head section. This is necessary to support certain types of plug-ins that
need to load additional JavaScript or define style sheets, meta and link
tags in the head section.

[028] - Install Kernel 0.9.3 (Stable)
  by Justin Piszcz (http://freshmeat.net/users/war7200/)
  Wed, May 24th 2006 09:52

System :: Installation/Setup

About: Install Kernel (ik) is a bash script that installs the Linux kernel
and automatically sets up LILO or GRUB. It also saves your kernel
configuration each time you do an install. This allows you to restore the
newest configuration file when you make a new kernel. This script is
intended for two groups of people; people new to compiling kernels, and
people who are tired of moving files around and editing their bootloader
configurations every time they install a new kernel.

Changes: Updated to work with the newer version of coreutils for head and
tail. The MAKE_JOBS directive has been removed in favor of make -j2 to
prevent make from spawning hundreds of jobs if /proc/cpuinfo did not
exist.

[031] - JGraph Layout Pro 1.3.0.2
  by bensond (http://freshmeat.net/users/BessyBoo/)
  Wed, May 24th 2006 05:22

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
Software Development

About: JGraph Layout Pro is a high performance graph layout library for
JGraph that automatically positions your graph, diagram, or network in a
visually pleasing manner. Layout Pro provides flexibility and a simple
design, enabling you to use circular, tree, force-directed, and
hierarchical layouts with ease. Example uses are organisational charts,
workflow and process diagrams, call charts, network diagrams, UML tools,
and more. It comes with its own documentation and an example applet.

Changes: An issue in the hierarchical layout has been resolved where the
layout was not positioning the widest rank first. This meant the layout
was not always as compact as it might have been. Also, automatic
determination of the roots of a layout has been changed to include
isolated cells, those without any connected edges.

  by edscott (http://freshmeat.net/users/edscott/)
  Wed, May 24th 2006 14:29

Software Development :: Libraries

About: Libtubo Interprocess Communication is a small and simple library to
run processes in the background and communicate via the stdout, stderr, and
stdin file descriptors. The functionality of libtubo is similar to the glib
function g_spawn_async_with_pipes(), except that all pipe setup and
monitoring is taken care of. The calling function only has to provide the
functions with which to process the input/output of the remote process.
The library first appeared in the year 2000 in the xfce3 desktop as part
of the xfsamba application, and is now available for use for other
developers.

Changes: Some control bugfixes. The version has been updated to the xffm

[038] - Mauve 1.3.0
  by Aaron Darling (http://freshmeat.net/users/darling/)
  Wed, May 24th 2006 21:53

Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics

About: Mauve constructs global multiple alignments of rearranged genome
sequences. It also provides an interactive display of multi-species
sequence conservation and any annotated features in those genomes. It can
be applied for sequence comparison of both finished or incomplete genomes
in multiple contigs. The resulting display is useful for identifying
functional chromosomal regions under selective pressure and for performing
ortholog assignment based on conserved gene order. Mauve writes global
alignments in eXtended Multi-FastA (XMFA) format, a phylogenetic guide
tree in Newick format, and the location of genomic islands. It identifies
the breakpoints of genomic rearrangement and can provide a reduction of
the genomes to a signed permutation matrix suitable for inference of
rearrangement history.

Changes: Mauve now incorporates rearrangement history analysis by
Block-Interchange (Yancopoulos et al. 2005) and GRIMM/MGR (Bourque et al.
2002). MUSCLE has been updated to version 3.6 and related Windows bugs
have been fixed. The Mac build includes Universal binaries for both

About: Msort sorts files in sophisticated ways. Records may be fixed size,
newline-separated blocks, or terminated by any specified character. Key
fields may be selected by position, tag, or character range. For each key,
distinct exclusions, multigraphs, substitutions, and a sort order may be
defined or locale collation rules used. Comparisons may be lexicographic,
numeric, numeric string, hybrid, random, by string length, angle, date,
time, month name, or ISO8601 timestamp. Keys may be reversed so as to
generate reverse dictionaries. Optional keys are supported. Unicode is
supported, including full case-folding. Msort itself has a somewhat
complex command line interface, but may be driven by an optional GUI.

Changes: Case-folding was updated to Unicode 4.1 and Turkish case-folding
was added as an option. Since the GUI had come to take up too much space,
each section can now be rolled-up.

person-to-person communication services. The primary target platform is
GNU/Linux. Sofia-SIP is based on a SIP stack developed at the Nokia
Research Center.

Changes: Support for outbound and GRUU SIP protocol features has been
added. A new library providing glib/gobject bindings and a mechanism to
connect the SIP stack event loop to a glib event loop have been added to
the package. The VC6/Win32 port has seen major updates, including better
support for building DLLs, and better DNS support.

[059] - Stunnix JavaScript Obfuscator and Encoder 3.2
  by Stunnix (http://freshmeat.net/users/stunnix/)
  Wed, May 24th 2006 13:18

Internet
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers

About: Stunnix JS-Obfus protects your JavaScript code from potential
analyzing/studying/reworking by unwanted parties. It's both an obfuscator
and encoder for the JavaScript/JScript source code. It converts the
JavaScript/JScript source files into highly mangled and obfuscated form,
making it extremely difficult to study, analyse, reuse, and re-work for
competitors or customers, while fully retaining functionality of the
original source code, and then encodes it afterwards, making it completely
unreadable. There are a lot of options to control all aspects of code
hiding, and full support for all syntax constructs. It is designed to be
multi-module aware.

Changes: This version better supports .js files with a UTF-8 byte order
marker. encoding of scripts that contain raw UTF-8 bytes in them works
correctly now. Support for 'try' blocks and regular expressions was
improved. The Project Manager GUI now copies file and directory
permissions when building projects, and recognizes more file extensions as
containing scripts.

Education :: Testing
Software Development

About: TAU (Tuning and Analysis Utilities) is a set of tools for analyzing
the performance of C, C++, Fortran and Java programs. It collects much more
information than is available through prof or gprof, the standard Unix
utilities, including per-process, per-thread, and per-host information,
inclusive and exclusive function times, profiling groups that allow you to
organize data collection, access to hardware counters on some systems,
per-class and per-instance information, the ability to separate data for
each template instantiation, start/stop timers for profiling arbitrary
sections of code, and support for collection of statistics on user-defined
events.

Changes: New features include support for automatic outer loop level
instrumentation in Fortran, support for PDT's gfortran parser,
tau_ompcheck for correcting OpenMP directives in Fortran, Derby and DB2
support in PerfDMF, enhancements to Paraprof for phase based profiling,
automatic instrumentation of pthread programs, a Java trace writer API
library, Cray XT3 extensions, and an upgradetau utility for installing
TAU.

  Wed, May 24th 2006 14:37

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Software Development :: Testing

About: The Web Performance Suite is a suite of testing tools for web
servers, including load testing, web page performance analysis, and coming
in 2006 functional testing and performance monitoring. The statistical
analysis in the Load Testing Module takes your site's performance
criteria, and determines the number of users your Web site can handle.
Because data is collected at the URL level, it not only identifies slow
Web pages, but identifies the particular part of the Web page that caused
the problem. It includes hard-to-find features such as IP spoofing, client
certificates, multiple simultaneous test cases, authentication, SSL
recording and playback, automated analysis, AJAX support, SOAP support,
and more.

Changes: A couple dozen high priority bugs have been fixed, mostly
relating to browser configuration, and one important bug where errors
weren't being reported in single-user playback mode.
