[001] - ACL2 3.0
  by Jared Davis (http://freshmeat.net/users/aiken11/)
  Thu, Jun 1st 2006 00:54

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Scientific/Engineering :: Electronic Design Automation (EDA)

About: ACL2 is a mathematical logic, programming language, and mechanical
theorem prover based on the applicative subset of Common Lisp. It is an
"industrial-strength" version of the NQTHM or Boyer/Moore theorem prover,
and has been used for the formal verification of commercial
microprocessors, the Java Virtual Machine, interesting algorithms, and so
forth.

Changes: A new make-event feature was introduced. It is almost like macros
that take state. Better support was provided for :definition rules with
:expand hints. Disabling guard checking was added. User-contributed books
are now supported, and a variety of features have been improved, including
guard verification involving ground terms, theory invariants, and diabling
defthm events. A soundness bug related to certain local events has been
fixed, as have minor bugs related to cw-gstack, wet, embeddable events,
the prompt, proof trees, stobj printing, and :puff.

Software Development :: Internationalization
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Localization

About: The Adobe Source Libraries (ASL) are a collection of C++ libraries
building foundation technology to allow the construction of commercial
applications by assembling generic algorithms through declarative
descriptions.

Changes: Highlights of this release include a migration from SourceForge
to Perforce as the source code server. You can still perform CVS-like
checkout commands with the p4checkout scripts. XCode IDE projects have
been upgraded to 2.3. A significant overhaul was made in the way the Mac
apps build and link. The primary interface for the layout engine (Eve) has
been radically redesigned, taking advantage of adobe::regular_object.

Software Development :: Testing

About: BasicQuery is a Java-based application used to access databases
through JDBC. It features a Swing-based GUI and includes capabilities
useful to developers when testing SQL statements against a database. It
also produces timing information, which is valuable during tuning
exercises.

Changes: Support for placing multiple SQL statements in the query text
area, each separated by a semicolon was added. BasicQuery will split the
input at each semicolon (unless they are within quotes) and execute each
statement independently. The feature can be enabled and disabled by a menu
option. All statements in the group must be the same type (selects [with
resultsets] versus modifications [update, insert, delete, DDL]).

[009] - ByteName 1.9
  by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
  Thu, Jun 1st 2006 00:49

Text Processing

About: ByteName is a tool that for each byte of the input prints a line
consisting of the byte offset, the byte in hex, octal, binary, and
decimal, and its description in a selected single-byte encoding. A command
line flag suppresses printing of lines corresponding to ASCII characters,
which is useful for locating stray non-ASCII codes. It can also generate a
chart for a specified encoding or, for a specified codepoint, generate
descriptions in all known encodings.

  by theGREENzebra (http://freshmeat.net/users/tgz/)
  Thu, Jun 1st 2006 04:57

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Ripping

About: cdevour is a set of scripts designed to make CD ripping painless.
Aside from swapping discs, it aims for as little user interaction as
possible. Drives are continually polled for discs. Upon finding a disc in
a drive, it determines what CD it is, makes sure it has enough disk space,
and rips. Names are retrieved from CDDB and the disc is ejected when
finished. CDs that have already been ripped are ejected immediately, and
when there is not enough disk space, the script waits until there is. A
separate encoding script encodes files into Ogg Vorbis in the background.
Encoded files are tagged and renamed. Another script can move albums into
a music directory automatically.

[013] - Conary 1.0.17
  by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
  Thu, Jun 1st 2006 23:06

Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.

Changes: The Conary repository server now can serve multiple serverNames.
In a related development, Conary mirroring can now mirror groups
recursively in order to create a complete mirror of several different
repositories in one mirror repository. Mirroring now can have included
troves limited by regular expressions.

[014] - Contact Conductance Estimator 0.3 beta
  by ido50 (http://freshmeat.net/users/ido50/)
  Thu, Jun 1st 2006 23:14

Scientific/Engineering

About: Contact Conductance Estimator (CoCoE) is a program that estimates
the conductance (or resistance) between two surfaces in contact. It is
meant to be used by designers and analysts of physical systems where heat
transfer by means of contact is of importance. CoCoE is written in Perl,
and uses a self-contained SQLite database and Tk for the user interface.

Changes: Unit of measurement handling has been improved considerably. The
result window now shows both the conductance (h) and the resistance (Rc)
and indicates the reference from which the data has been taken. In the
pressure window, the user can now enter load instead of pressure, in which
case the program will ask for the contact area. Many new entries were
provided in the database.

  by Michael Ernst (http://freshmeat.net/users/mernst/)
  Thu, Jun 1st 2006 23:09

Documentation
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: Daikon is an implementation of dynamic detection of likely
invariants. An invariant is a property (such as "x=2*y+5" or
"this.next.prev = this" or "myarray is sorted by <") that holds at a
certain point or points in a program. Invariants are often seen in assert
statements, documentation, and formal specifications. Invariants can be
useful in program understanding and a host of other applications. Daikon
runs a program, observes the values that the program computes, and then
reports properties that were true over the observed executions. It can
detect properties in Java, C, C++, Perl, and IOA programs, in spreadsheet
files, and in other data sources.

Changes: This is a maintenance release with few substantive changes.

  Thu, Jun 1st 2006 10:03

Database
Database :: API
Database :: Database Engines/Servers

About: db4o is an object database available for Java and for .NET,
including CompactFramework and Mono. Features include ACID transactions,
automatic class schema recognition, query-by-example, S.O.D.A. object
querying API, callback methods, memory files, cascade-on-delete,
multi-threaded access, and Java Webstart and servlet support.

Changes: This release comes with a new BTree architecture for class
indexes, resulting in reduced memory consumption with yet more
performance. As an example benchmark, 250 million objects were stored with
a constant memory footprint of less than 40 MB at a constant overall insert
rate of 8000 objects per second on a slow 5400 RPM hard disc. The complete
marshalling format has also been revised for this release to allow
clustered writes of untyped references along with parent objects. The
marshalling change also contributes to a strong improvement in read and
write performance.

[038] - JChart2D 2.0.0
  by Achim Westermann (http://freshmeat.net/users/achimwestermann/)
  Thu, Jun 1st 2006 04:43

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
Software Development :: Libraries

About: JChart2D is a Swing widget for precise runtime visualization of
numerical tuples in an x-y plot. It is easy to use and is designed for
runtime display. Unlike other charting tools that cover all kinds of views
(pie, bar, etc.), it just creates precise x-y plots. It is thread-safe, in
that many different threads in an application may each add data to plot. A
single chart may contain multiple different traces. It also features
automatic scaling, choice of unit, and setting of ranges that always have
to be included in the plot.

Changes: The new version adds many new UI controls such as coordinate
tooltips for the chart, selectable logarithmic scaling (base e, base 10)
for each axis, menu bar controls, experimental zooming in the X dimension,
and an improved popup menu. A bug related to ringbuffered traces and some
UI bugs (update view upon model change) were fixed. Developers who already
integrated JChart2D in products will have to perform various refactoring
tasks because of new package naming.

[039] - JGraph Layout Pro 1.3.0.7
  by bensond (http://freshmeat.net/users/BessyBoo/)
  Thu, Jun 1st 2006 10:00

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
Software Development

About: JGraph Layout Pro is a high performance graph layout library for
JGraph that automatically positions your graph, diagram, or network in a
visually pleasing manner. Layout Pro provides flexibility and a simple
design, enabling you to use circular, tree, force-directed, and
hierarchical layouts with ease. Example uses are organisational charts,
workflow and process diagrams, call charts, network diagrams, UML tools,
and more. It comes with its own documentation and an example applet.

Changes: This release corrects up-down orientation compact tree layouts
with more than 2 children per parent. Everything except the actual
layout.run call has been moved into invokeLater in the layout demo so the
GUI update is always on the event dispatch thread. An overloaded
resetControlPoints() has been added to the facade to set routing as well
as clear the control points. A new set has been added the facade for easy
setting of which vertices are to be processed in a layout. findTreeRoots
now properly allows for edges promoted by groups collapsing.

user-agent field, scripts on the page, and objects, altering the
user-agent string to whatever you please, and tunnelling your proxied
traffic through a second proxy.

Changes: The Encode Cookies feature now encodes both the cookie name and
value. A meta tag equivalent of a robots.txt "noindex, nofollow" was added
to prevent robots from following proxied URLs. A glitch where certain
servers would prematurely send the headers of the page was fixed. There
were also fixes to how removing scripts works and JavaScript parses HTML,
and other tweaks to the parsing engine.

About: Xming is a port of the X Window System server to Windows. It shares
the same source code base as Cygwin/X, but does not depend on the Cygwin
environment or cygwin1.dll. Xming is a fully featured X11 server for
Windows that is very simple to install and use.

Changes: Includes a major fix in the clipboard message handling and a
Validate option for checking whether XLaunch configuration files are
compliant with the XML Schema Definition file.
