Ever wonder why HP has seven consecutive years of Linux market share

Maybe it's our portfolio of best-of-breed partner products, or HP
value-add in management, high availability, and virtualization. Maybe it's
the integrated, consolidated infrastructure of HP BladeSystem,
single-source accountability and solution support from HP Services in 160
countries, or just our unwavering commitment to the open source community.

Information Management :: Issue Tracking
Software Development :: Bug Tracking

About: AgileTrack is an agile development planning and iteration tracking
tool. It assists in the creation and life-cycle of iterations, projects,
stories, tasks, and bugs. It is focused on simplicity and practicality.
Its interface is designed to be useful specifically for software
developers on small development teams with rapidly-changing priorities and
requirements. Its primary interface for developers is geared toward
availability, speed, and purpose. It is flexible and minimalistic with
respect to the data that is required for records. It is designed to be
compatible with agile development methodologies, particularly Extreme
Programming.

Changes: The database, security, and client access layers have been
abstracted to allow potential support for alternate databases. JSON-RPC
and XML-RPC interfaces have been expanded to support new security and
batch operations. A streaming JSON-RPC interface has been created to
improve interface speed. Various bugfixes have been made. A new edit mode
has been added to the main issue list, which allows issues to be added and
modified directly from the list.

[010] - Conary 1.0.21

  Mon, Jun 26th 2006 13:50

Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.

Changes: More options have been added for specifying more precisely the
user's intent when updating systems. The man page describes the changes to
the "conary migrate" and "conary sync" commands. A "package=" keyword
argument has been added to build actions.

[011] - convmv 1.10
  by Björn JACKE (http://freshmeat.net/users/bjoernjacke/)
  Mon, Jun 26th 2006 07:05

About: convmv converts filenames (not file content), directories, and
even whole filesystems to a different encoding. This comes in very handy
if, for example, one switches from an 8-bit locale to an UTF-8 locale or
changes charsets on Samba servers. It has some smart features: it
automagically recognises if a file is already UTF-8 encoded (thus partly
converted filesystems can be fully moved to UTF-8) and it also takes
care of symlinks. Additionally, it is able to convert from normalization
form C (UTF-8 NFC) to NFD and vice-versa. This is important for
interoperability with Mac OS X, for example, which uses NFD, while Linux
and most other Unixes use NFC. Though it's primary written to convert
from/to UTF-8 it can also be used with almost any other charset encoding.
Convmv can also be used for case conversion from upper to lower case and
vice versa with virtually any charset. Note that this is a command line
tool which requires at least Perl version 5.8.0.

Changes: This release fixes some issues with "0" filenames and some
incompatibilities with recent Perl versions.

[012] - Crossroads Load Balancer 1.03
  by Karel Kubat (http://freshmeat.net/users/karelk/)
  Mon, Jun 26th 2006 07:38

System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
System :: Networking

About: Crossroads is a load balance and failover utility for TCP-based
services. It is a daemon program running in userspace and features
extensive configurability, polling of backends using "wakeup calls",
highly configurable dispatch modes of client requests to back ends,
detailed status reporting, "hooks" for special actions when backend calls
fail, support for "sticky" HTTP sessions, and more. It is
service-independent; it is usable for HTTP(S), SSH, SMTP, DNS, MySQL, etc.

Changes: Lots of minor bugs were fixed. Crossroads was ported to OpenBSD.
The "sticky HTTP" code was cleaned up. Dispatching at random with weights
now works as advertised. The new -a flag causes messages about new and
finishing connections to be logged. The -l flag can be used to send
information to the syslog services LOCAL0 etc. Daemon restarting won't
interrupt active connections.

About: DieHard automatically hardens software applications against a wide
range of bugs. These bugs, known as memory errors, often end up as serious
security vulnerabilities, cause crashes, or lead to unpredictable behavior.
DieHard either eliminates these bugs altogether, or avoids them with high
probability.

Changes: Uses less memory by adapting dynamically to application memory
requirements, and uses "HeapShield" to prevent library-based heap
overflows.

About: EasyBMP is a cross-platform C++ library for reading and writing
Windows bitmap (BMP) files. Designed for ease of use, it requires no
installation or external libraries, is small in size, well-documented, and
is simple enough for the novice programmer to start in just minutes.

Changes: This release focuses on bugfixes and code cleanup. The most
significant change is a fix in BMP::ReadFromFile() when reading indexed
images with under-specified color tables. The fix eliminates an internal
inconsistency that previously caused a memory leak and occasional memory
segmentation faults in the BMP::GetColor() and BMP::SetColor() functions.

  Mon, Jun 26th 2006 17:16

Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)

About: Flail is a command-line MUA (mail user agent) written in Perl. It
is designed to give you the ability to map little gobs of Perl over your

integrate cleanly with PGP and GPG. Flail is not coded very cleanly, and
is primarily hackerware: Perl hackers will probably like it, and everyone
else probably won't.

Changes: The code has been revamped (but still needs a rewrite). IMAP and

Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML/XHTML

About: GeSHi is a generic syntax highlighter for PHP that takes any source
code and highlights it in XHTML and CSS. It features case-sensitive or
insensitive highlighting, auto-caps/non-caps of any keyword, an unlimited
scope for styling, the use of CSS in which almost any aspect of the source
can be highlighted, the use of CSS classes to massively reduce the amount
of output code, function-to-URL capabilities, line numbering, and much
more. Over 50 languages are supported, including Java, C, PHP, HTML, CSS,
SQL, Pascal, C++, XML, ASP, and ASM.

Changes: This release fixes a few bugs in the PHP and C code parsers, and
adds basic support for SQL.

[028] - Gnofract 4D 3.0
  by EY (http://freshmeat.net/users/edwiny/)
  Mon, Jun 26th 2006 23:03

Artistic Software
Desktop Environment :: Gnome
Multimedia :: Graphics

About: Gnofract 4D is a Gnome-based program to draw fractals. What sets it
apart from other fractal programs (and makes it "4D") is the way that it
treats the Mandelbrot and Julia sets as different views of the same
four-dimensional fractal object. It contains a Fractint-compatible formula
compiler, allowing it to draw an unlimited number of fractal types, using
numerous coloring options.

Changes: This release adds a "warp param" option to allow more formulas to
be explored in four dimensions. Support for another format of palette file
was added and some new palettes were included. Compressed parameter files
were provided for easier sharing. Some command-line arguments were added
and a number of bugs were fixed.

[029] - Google APIlity 1.4.4a
  by Thomas Steiner (http://freshmeat.net/users/googletomac/)
  Mon, Jun 26th 2006 14:07

Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: The APIlity PHP Library provides an object-oriented way to easily
access and manage the Google AdWords API from within PHP. This comes along
with an abstraction from the SOAP and WSDL details.

Changes: The ->toXml() method of Campaigns returned <endDay> and
<startDay> tags instead of <endDate> and <startDate>. This release simply
keeps the old names, unless in the native API the names have been changed.
There is a small correction in the logic: if there are no objects to return
(e.g. getAllCriteria() on an empty AdGroup), the previous release returned
false. This release just returns an empty array.

About: IkeWiki is a new kind of Wiki (a so-called "Semantic Wiki")
developed by Salzburg Research that allows users to collaboratively
annotate pages and links between pages with semantic annotations. Such
annotations are useful because they give machines a certain amount of
"understanding" of the content that goes beyond merely displaying the
page. This information can then, for example, be used for context-specific
presentation of pages, advanced querying, consistency verification, or
drawing conclusions. It currently only works properly with Mozilla Firefox

Internet :: Name Service (DNS)

About: With a small codebase, the PowerDNS Recursor is an advanced
recursor currently serving the DNS resolving needs of over 2 million
Internet connections. Besides high performance (using kqueue or epoll,
over 15 thousand qps on commodity hardware), it provides advanced
anti-spoofing measures. In addition, the program caches server performance
and timeouts, making it both network and user friendly. It also has
built-in hooks for making graphs with rrdtool, providing insight into
nameserver performance.

Changes: This release consists almost entirely of fixes and speedups.
Previous release candidates have been tested very thoroughly by some of
the largest Internet providers in the world, which has allowed finding and
addressing a number of corner-case bugs. Additionally, ANY queries would
sometimes time out, while sending needless packets to authoritative name
servers. Because of this, a quick upgrade is highly recommended.

of POST and AJAX requests, and it provides a manual way to specify which
actions not to store.

Changes: This release fixes a bug where a user variable was stored in a
class variable instead of a session one, so a user going back would make
another one skip a page in its history. The plugin no longer stores PUT
and DELETE requests. A peek_last_location method was added to look at the
history without modifying it, and a "force" parameter was added to the
store_location method to force storing of a location even if it would
normally be skipped.

[059] - Restlet 1.0 beta 15
  by Jerome (http://freshmeat.net/users/jlouvel/)
  Mon, Jun 26th 2006 10:54

Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: Restlet is a framework that brings the simplicity and efficiency of
the REST architectural style to Java developers. It is composed of two
parts, the Restlet API (alternative to Servlet API) and a reference
implementation (Noelios Restlet Engine). It supports all REST concepts
(resource, representation, data, connector, components, etc.) and is
suitable for both client and server REST applications. The server
connectors provided are HTTP(S), AJP (via Mortbay's Jetty or an adapter
Servlet) and the client connectors are HTTP(S), JDBC, and SMTP(S).

Changes: This release adds support for the AsyncWeb HTTP server connector.
It adds a ContextClient connector to support file resources, class loaders,
and a Webapp context (Servlet and Restlet). Major refactorings (Maplet >
Router, Chainlet > Filter, etc.). Bugfixes and documentation updates.

[067] - strongSwan 2.7.2
  by Andreas Steffen (http://freshmeat.net/users/asteffen/)
  Mon, Jun 26th 2006 06:29

Security
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Networking

About: strongSwan is a complete IPsec and IKEv1 implementation for Linux
2.4 and 2.6 kernels. It interoperates with most other IPsec-based VPN
products. It is a descendant of the discontinued FreeS/WAN project. The
focus of the strongSwan project is on strong authentication mechanisms
using X.509 public key certificates and optional secure storage of private
keys on smartcards through a standardized PKCS#11 interface. A unique
feature is the use of X.509 attribute certificates to implement advanced
access control schemes based on group memberships.

Changes: The mixed PSK/RSA roadwarrior detection capability introduced by
the strongswan-2.7.0 release necessitated the pre-parsing of the IKE
proposal payloads before any defined IKE Main Mode state had been
established. Although bad proposal syntax was correctly being detected by
the parser, the subsequent error handler didn't check the state pointer
before logging current state information, causing an immediate crash of
the pluto keying daemon due to a NULL pointer. This release fixes this
vulnerability to malformed proposal payloads that could otherwise be
exploited by Denial-of-Service attacks.

[069] - Sunifdef 2.0 (Development)
  by Mike Kinghan (http://freshmeat.net/users/imkinghan/)
  Mon, Jun 26th 2006 14:31

Software Development
Software Development :: Build Tools

About: Sunifdef is a command line tool for simplifying the preprocessor
conditionals in C/C++ source code (#if and related directives) based on
the the user's chosen interpretation of the preprocessor symbols. It is a
more powerful successor to the FreeBSD 'unifdef' tool. Sunifdef is most
useful to developers of constantly evolving products with large code
bases, where preprocessor conditionals are used to configure the feature
sets, APIs or implementations of different releases. In these
environments, the code base steadily accumulates #ifdef-pollution as
transient configuration options become obselete. Sunifdef can largely
automate the recurrent task of purging redundant #if-logic from the code.

Changes: The #if parser has been substantially simplified and is much more
powerful. It previously only evaluated truth-functions and relational
operators, and could evaluate FOO defined -DFOO=val only where val was an
integer constant. Now it can evaluate all C operators except the
conditional operator, and can evaluate FOO provided val can be recursively
evaluated, but will determine that a circularly defined symbol, e.g.
-DFOO=BAR -DBAR=FOO, is unresolved rather than loop forever.
