[001] - akkda 0.69
  by Piotr Kodzis (http://freshmeat.net/users/akkada/)
  Fri, Aug 11th 2006 06:20

System :: Monitoring

About: akkda is a simple network monitoring system designed for small and
medium size computer networks. Its purpose is to quick detect system or
network faults, and to display information about detected problems for the
administrator. It is designed as a pro-active network monitor. It does not
wait for information from any agents, systems, etc. It collects
information itself every minute (you can decrease this period to as little
as 1 second if needed). Almost all services of the monitored hosts are
discovered automatically.

Changes: This release fixes some bugs and adds little enhancements and
support for Mozilla Firefox and Netscape Navigator and limited support for
Opera (this works fine except for context menus).

  by unDEFER (http://freshmeat.net/users/undefer/)
  Fri, Aug 11th 2006 09:46

System :: Filesystems
System :: Recovery Tools

About: anyfs-tools allows you to recover and convert filesystems while
using minimal extra disk space. Unlike other recovery tools, anyfs-tools
doesn't copy all the files found on other disks (or partitions), but only
saves information about the location of the file blocks to an external
inode table. After recovery, a user may mount the damaged filesystem with
anyfs and the external inode table and then interact with all recovered
files with any program.

Changes: A new build_xfs utility was added. Now you can convert FS to XFS
with anyfs-tools. A new anyconvertfs script was added. It is a
user-friendly script for automation of converting. The documentation was
improved. A "USAGE EXAMPLES" section was added to manual pages. An
anyfs-tools.pot file and Russian messages (ru.po) were added. Many
bugfixes in all utilities and the kernel module.

About: biffles does what does the "procmail" MDA does, but in one run. It
is meant to be used off-line by dial-up clients where mail is fetched via
a nightly cron-job, amassed localy, and then sorted.

Changes: This release adds a thread cleaning feature and a --dry-run
command line option.

About: Breakage is a drum machine with unusual real time programming and
performance. Where traditional step sequencers edit one note at time,
Breakage adds neural network and pattern morphing functions to allow
composition above the note level.

Changes: The neural network gives much smoother results using Joone's
backprop training algorithm (was using resilient backprop). The sequence
size (length and number of channels) can now be changed through the
settings menu, and it doesn't crash the ChucK sequencer anymore. There is
a new multiply morph. The subtract morph now works properly.

About: Brutus is an Exchange connector and development framework that
offers access to all of MAPI and therefore to all versions of Microsoft
Exchange from version 5.5 onwards. It is a complete wrapping of all of
MAPI into a (large) set of CORBA interfaces. It enables any groupware
client to integrate seamlessly into any organization with large Exchange
deployments on an equal footing with MS Outlook. Being based on CORBA, it
is platform independent, and works equally well on Linux, the BSDs,
Windows, or wherever there is a CORBA implementation available.

Changes: Brutus client login failures due to lifeline errors are now
reported back to the client in a more descriptive way. evolution-brutus
has seen some very big performance gains when updating the folder summary.
Very big folders will see a hundred-fold performance gain when the folder
is seen for the first time by e-b.

  Fri, Aug 11th 2006 16:46

Multimedia :: Graphics
Scientific/Engineering :: Geographical

About: gipfel is a tool to find the names of mountains or points of
interest on a picture. It uses a database containing names and GPS data.
With the given viewpoint (the point from which the picture was taken) and
two known mountains on the picture, it can compute all parameters needed
to compute the positions of other mountains on the picture.
Additionally, it can try to guess these parameter if only one mountain is
known on the picture. In this case, a few other peaks need to be marked,
but it is not necessary to know their names. It can also be used to play
around with the parameters manually. But be warned: It is pretty
difficult to find the right parameters for a given picture manually.

Changes: This release adds image stitching. It can generate panorama
images from previously referenced images. The images don't even need to
overlap. Various bugs were fixed.

System :: Filesystems

About: MP3FS is a read-only FUSE filesystem that transcodes FLAC audio
files to MP3 on the fly when opened and read. It is useful to enable the
use of your FLAC collection with software and/or hardware that only
understands MP3s. It is also a novel alternative to traditional MP3
encoder applications. Just use your favorite file browser to select the
files you want encoded, and copy them somewhere.

  Fri, Aug 11th 2006 09:40

Office/Business
Office/Business :: Financial :: Accounting
Office/Business :: Groupware

About: Open Blue Lab is a rapid application development framework for
building portal applications based on Web 2.0. It is currently being used
to develop a full Web ERP from scratch. Portal layout may be configured
through the UI, and Ajax and HTML-based forms are automatically built from
XML widget definitions, which may be generated on the fly from a UML model
that describes your information system. Widgets are dynamically populated,
making them data-aware automatically at run time with no need to code any
database interaction. This framework allows you to focus on Information
System design, with forms and portal architecture being generated
automatically.

Changes: Elements in the portal have been changed. The Warehouse form has
been changed to a Location form. Supplier, Notification, and
OrganizeBatchPick forms have been added.

[033] - OpenDBX 1.1.3 (Development)
  by Norbert Sendetzky (http://freshmeat.net/users/nsendetzky/)
  Fri, Aug 11th 2006 06:29

Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries

About: OpenDBX is an extremely lightweight but extensible C library for
accessing databases with a single API. It provides a clean and simple
interface across all supported databases that leads to an elegant code
design automatically. Currently, Firebird/Interbase, MySQL, PostgreSQL,
SQLite, and SQL Server (MS and Sybase) are supported, and backends for
more native database APIs can be written easily.

Changes: Most of the work in this release is related to the firebird
backend, which now returns correct ISO date and time information and
decimal values in text format and (most importantly) can handle
transactions. This release also fixes the segfault produced by
odbx_finish() and corrects minor bugs in the MySQL and PgSQL backends.
Scripts for automated regression tests are included. They will prevent the
introduction of bugs in existing code and will also be helpful for
comparison between existing and newly-written backends.
