[001] - Advanced Website Creator 1.3
by Vesselin Atanasov (http://freshmeat.net/users/vesselin/)
Mon, Nov 13th 2006 04:32
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: Advanced Website Creator is a Web development environment. Created
websites use an MVC framework written in PHP 5 and a simple database
abstraction layer. At present the database layer supports MySQL and
PostgreSQL as backends. All PHP classes are auto-loaded, so there is no
need to include() or require() files manually. Search engine friendly URLs
are supported via mod_rewrite.
Changes: Support for multiple CSS files has been added. Now CSS files are
edited just like other plaintext files. A bug has been fixed which
prevented running projects that used MySQL as a database backend. The
installer checks if an IonCube loader is present and if not, the loader is
added to php.ini.

[002] - Ampache 3.3.3-Alpha2 (Development)
by Karl Vollmer (http://freshmeat.net/users/vollmerk/)
Mon, Nov 13th 2006 04:30
Communications :: File Sharing
Information Management
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: Ampache is a Web-based MP3/Ogg/RM/Flac/WMA/M4A manager. It allows
you to view, edit, and play your audio files via HTTP/IceCast/Mpd or
Moosic. It has support for downsampling, playlists, artist, and album
views, album art, random play, song play tracking, user themes, and remote
catalogs using XML-RPC.
Changes: The major addition to this version is Democratic Play. This new
play type allows non-admin users to vote on a communal playlist. Songs on
this playlist are played based on the number of votes they have received.
After a song is played, it is removed from the playlist, and when there
are no songs left, Ampache will pass a random song from the specified
"Base Playlist". The second major addition is the admin's ability to
define the access level required to set preferences. This version also
includes many other minor bugfixes and improvements.

About: APFP (Arbitrary Precision Floating Point) is an Unicon class for
performing arbitrary precision floating point calculations. It also
includes a class for calculating with arbitrary precision complex numbers.
It requires unicon overloaded operators. It also contains a ureal class for
built-in reals. Both classes keep an estimate of the accumulated error.
Changes: Changes were made to support the SODE project, including both
enhancements and bugfixes. Unicon operator overloading is still required.

System :: Archiving :: Backup
About: Bacula is a set of programs that allow you to manage the backup,
recovery, and verification of computer data across a network of different
computers. It is based on a client/server architecture and is efficient
and relatively easy to use, while offering many advanced storage
management features that make it easy to find and recover lost or damaged
files.
Changes: Problems with encryption when combined with compression or sparse
files were fixed. Encrypted backups made with prior beta versions cannot be
restored. Restoration on Windows was fixed so that backslashes as path
separators work. Tape positioning with older tape drives and some tape
door locking issues in autochangers were fixed.

[005] - Bitgate Server Software Environment 0.2.3
by Ken Hollis (http://freshmeat.net/users/Tsuichi1/)
Mon, Nov 13th 2006 04:46
Internet
About: Bitgate Server Software Environment aims to build a multi-protocol
environment in which server protocol handlers can be eventually loaded and
unloaded on the fly using a center console or controller Web page. It aims
to have 99.9% uptime, and have high-availability (Java 6) compliance. It
is written in Java 5, and relies completely on Java's I/O functionality to
provide non-blocking support for both SSL and non-SSL sockets
(transparently). All configuration is done via XML files, as this is
easier to maintain. It includes a minimal demonstration HTTP server.
Changes: GUID and MD5 generation code was added. A scheduling server was
added, and the debugging system was touched up. Further updates were made
to the Clustering system, and this will be further utilized in a protocol
server that allows for simple Web server clustering. The beginnings of a
statistics class was added.

[006] - BMP 0.34.3
by Milosz Derezynski (http://freshmeat.net/users/queuerunner/)
Mon, Nov 13th 2006 14:18
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players
About: BMP is a media player which provides a very easy-to-use interface
and usage semantics for all tasks, while having extensive standards and
services support under the hood (MusicBrainz, Last.fm radio/scrobbling,
HAL, DBus), yet keeping the details out of the way of the user.
Changes: The 0.34.x releases come with a changed GUI that is partially SVG
skinned, podcast support, bugfixes, and code cleanups throughout the code,
as well as resolved crash conditions under certain circumstances (mostly
in the MusicBrainz-based metadata editing). An "offline mode" in which BMP
won't start up with network-dependent services enabled (Last.fm,
Shoutcast/Icecast, Podcasts and, if built in, Soulseek Downloads) was
added, and networking has been improved (stalling due to network timeouts
is now effectively prevented).

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Writing
About: burnCDDA is a console frontend to cdrdao, cdrecord, MPlayer,
mpg321, oggdec, mppdec, flac, normalize, and mp3_check. It can be used to
create audio CDs from an M3U playlist (the playlist format of XMMS and
amaroK). It supports MP3, OGG Vorbis, Musepack, FLAC, WMA, M4A and WAV
files, and it might be the easiest way to copy an audio CD.

[008] - cdrtools 2.01.01a20 (Development)
by Jörg Schilling (http://freshmeat.net/users/schily/)
Mon, Nov 13th 2006 04:52
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Ripping
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Writing
System :: Archiving
About: cdrtools (formerly cdrecord) creates home-burned CDs/DVDs with a
CDR/CDRW/DVD recorder. It works as a burn engine for several applications.
It supports CD/DVD recorders from many different vendors; all SCSI-3/mmc-
and ATAPI/mmc-compliant drives should also work. Supported features
include IDE/ATAPI, parallel port, and SCSI drives, audio CDs, data CDs,
and mixed CDs, full multi-session support, CDRWs (rewritable), DVD-R/-RW,
DVD+R/+RW, TAO, DAO, RAW, and human-readable error messages. cdrtools
includes remote SCSI support and can access local or remote CD/DVD
writers.
Changes: All tools (cdrecord/readcd/cdda2wav) now allow you to omit the
dev= option in the case where only one CD/DVD writer is on the system and
the system is running a user-friendly OS. Cdrecord now mostly defaults to
-sao, which finally allows the simple command "cdrecord image.iso" for CD
and DVD media. Mkisofs now always hides the RR_MOVED directory from the
Rick Ridge directory tree.

Mon, Nov 13th 2006 18:29
About: ComicMan downloads Web comics from the Internet to your hard drive.
It remembers the last download for each title, so you won't get duplicates
from running it multiple times. The application itself is a command line
tool, but it comes with a graphical configuration tool and an editor for
making new Web comic configuration files.
Changes: The graphical components were rewritten in PerlTk, and some
logging improvements were made.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
About: DBSight is a J2EE search platform for rapidly developing search
engines on any relational database, for both beginners and experts. It's
scalable, easy to create, and fast to search. It features a built-in
database crawler following user-defined SQL, incremental indexing,
user-controllable result ranking, the ability to return results with
highlights (like Google), and categorized result counts (like Amazon). It
can easily integrate with a non-Java environment with XML/JSON. There is a
UI for all operations, so no Java coding is necessary.
Changes: Memory consumption was made more efficient for Keywords type. The
velocity log messages were removed. The default getConnection loginTimeout
was set to 100 seconds to prevent blocking for connections. The correct
field:"value" behavior under "OR" mode is set.

by Richard Harris (http://freshmeat.net/users/r_e_h/)
Mon, Nov 13th 2006 07:51
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: Deep is a content management system that serves HTML, preformatted
text, Deep shorthand content, or the output of a Lua script using simple
templates and CSS. There are hooks to sell this content either by single
page or multi-page set through PayPal. You can use Deep to publish other
peoples' work, diverting a percentage of the payments to the publisher and
allowing the rest to go directly to the author. To promote fairness, the
server makes these percentages public. Deep is also a blog server, using
simple uploaded text files for entries and generating all indices on the
fly. It does not use a database and requires only a cgi-bin directory on a
Unix server.
Changes: The Survey object was added, which creates pages displaying
survey results and including a survey form. The user supplies only the
interior of the form and enough Lua to parse the results. An example is
included in the package.

by fastflo (http://freshmeat.net/users/fastflo/)
Mon, Nov 13th 2006 14:21
Database :: Front-Ends
About: Emma is a graphical toolkit for MySQL database developers and
administrators. It provides dialogs to create or modify MySQL databases,
tables, and associated indexes. The results of an executed query are
displayed in a resultset where the record data can be edited by the user,
if the SQL statemant allows for it. The SQL editor and resultset view are
grouped in tabs. Results can be exported to CSV files. Multiple
simultaneous opened MySQL connections are possible. Emma is the successor
of yamysqlfront.
Changes: This release adds an experimental "pretty-format" plugin to
indent SQL queries for good readability. This also includes a "compress
query" button, which will remove all unneeded whitespace (useful for
inclusion in source code). The tree view cursor position will be
stored/restored per query tab (much less annoying). It is possible to
select a GTK theme via the config file, either as an absolute pathname or
as an entry beneath /usr/share/themes/. The query tab names can be
automatically filled with the host/ database name (default until changed
by the user).

[026] - ht://Miner 0.3.0
by Gabriele Bartolini (http://freshmeat.net/users/angusgb/)
Mon, Nov 13th 2006 10:31
Internet :: Log Analysis
About: ht://Miner is a system for Web usage mining and data warehousing
that allows for the discovery of knowledge from data (KDD) regarding usage
on the Web, such as unique visitors, sessions, and transactions. This
information is then organized in the PostgreSQL RDMBS.
Changes: This release adds support for PostgreSQL Unix socket
connections. A multiple database approach has been transformed into a
single database/multiple schemas approach, thanks to PostgreSQL's support
of schemas. PostgreSQL 7.x has been abandoned for active development and
support in favor of version 8.x. Tablespaces support (PostgreSQL 8.x) has
been added. Methods have been added for querying the underlying PostgreSQL
database system. Options that perform administrative tasks such as schema
creation and (most importantly) tables and indexed creation have been
added. This release has a custom warehouse concept.

Mon, Nov 13th 2006 05:03
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Editors
About: Jaikoz is an audio tagger for ID3 and MP3. It has many advanced
automation features, making it quick and easy to correct the meta-data in
your audio tags. It works especially well with large music collections. It
uses a spreadsheet view to allow you to edit information more quickly than
other applications, and provides many autoformatting tasks that do most of
the work for you. For example, it compares your MP3s to each other to help
correct missing information or spelling mistakes.
Changes: The performance was improved when looking up information from the
MusicBrainz server. "Shift Base Folder to Sub Folder" and "Shift Sub Folder
to Base Folder" options were added to allow folders to be easily shifted
between the base folder and sub folder fields. A number of user interface
and tagging bugs have also been fixed.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Quality Assurance
Software Development :: Testing
About: Jameleon is an automated testing framework that can be used by
technical and non-technical users alike. One of the main concepts behind
it is to create a group of keywords or tags that represent different
screens of an application. All of the logic required to automate each
particular screen can be defined in Java and mapped to these keywords. The
keywords can then be organized with different data sets to form test
scripts without requiring an in-depth knowledge of how the application
works. The test scripts are then used for both testing automation and test
case document generation.
Changes: This release includes over thirty-one bug fixes and enhancements
that focus on stability and user interface enhancements. A few notable
enhancements include a test-suite tag, better support for Mac OS X, and a
new user interface configuration dialog, allowing for on-the-fly
configuration changes. There is one change that requires configuration
files be migrated to a new file when upgrading.

[039] - MeTA1 1.0.PreAlpha12.0
by Claus Assmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/casmx/)
Mon, Nov 13th 2006 14:07
About: MeTA1 is a modularized message transfer agent (MTA) consisting of
five (or more) persistent processes, four of which are multi-threaded. A
queue manager controls SMTP servers and SMTP clients to receive and send
email messages, an address resolver provides lookups in various maps
(including DNS) for mail routing, and a main control program starts the
other processes and watches over their execution. The queue manager
organizes the flow of messages through the system and provides measures to
avoid overloading the local or remote systems by implementing a central
control instance. It is simple to configure using a C-like syntax and is
secure and efficient.
Changes: The mailer table can now take flags to specify different types of
lookups, including "full_address" to use the entire address as a key
instead of just its domain. The SMTP server is terminated if it cannot
connect to the address resolver when a new SMTP connection is made. This
release logs a textual description of the exit(3) code in mcp when a
program terminates instead of its numeric value. It has better logging for
invalid EHLO/HELO in smtps: it logs the command used and adds a stat=
field.

[057] - Safe Strings 2.0.1
by Pablo Yanez Trujillo (http://freshmeat.net/users/supertux_pablo/)
Mon, Nov 13th 2006 18:29
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Safe Strings is a small C library that handles C strings in a safe
way. The functions of this library look at the necessary space for the
operations and try to reserve that space (with malloc or realloc). The
functions only begin working with their tasks when the memory allocation
is successful.
Changes: This release moves towards the project's goal of ease of use.
Instead of handling with double pointers (which increases the risk of
setting allocated pointers to NULL, for example), this release creates a
string object that contains information about the C string, like the
length and the actual amount of allocated bytes for the string.

[059] - ServingXML 0.6.0
by Daniel Parker (http://freshmeat.net/users/danielaparker/)
Mon, Nov 13th 2006 22:59
Database
Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML/XHTML
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
About: ServingXML is a markup language for expressing XML pipelines and an
extensible Java framework for defining the elements of the language. It
defines a vocabulary for expressing flat-XML, XML-flat, flat-flat, and
XML-XML transformations in pipelines. The accompanying console app
supports reading content as XML files, flat files, SQL queries, or SAX
events, and writing it as XML, HTML, PDF, or mail attachments. This
software is especially suited for converting flat file or database records
to XML, with its support for namespaces, variant record types, multi-valued
fields, segments and repeating groups, hierarchical grouping of records,
and row-by-row validation with XML Schema. There is also an API for
embedding the software in a Java application.
Changes: Flat files with fixed width fields but no end-of-line delimiters
are now supported, both for single record formats and multiple record
formats. Custom record readers are also now supported.

[061] - Slam-Edit 3.3.0
by mikeStabie (http://freshmeat.net/users/mikeStabie/)
Mon, Nov 13th 2006 10:40
Scientific/Engineering :: Electronic Design Automation (EDA)
About: Slam is a mature IC Layout editor with the ability to edit very
large designs (such as stream files larger than 10GB). Novel features
include threading for redraw, support for displaying on multiple X servers
simultaneously, and a Tcl interface to the database for user extensibility.
The system is a library based system with multi-user support. Programmable
structures (P-Cells) are available in Tcl. The editor includes gds input
and output.
Changes: This release offers about a 20% reduction in the memory required
for viewing stream data. With this new reduction, memory required is
approximately 50% of the stream file size. A 10GB stream file requires
about 5GB of memory to load. This release also increases the maximum
hierarchy depth to 100 from 50. Net tracing performance has been sped up
by about 20%. Several minor bugs were also corrected in this release,
associated with changes for Tcl 8.

[063] - Systems of Ordinary Differential Equations 03
by Dennis Darland (http://freshmeat.net/users/djdarland/)
Mon, Nov 13th 2006 23:01
About: USODE uses long Taylor series to solve systems of ordinary
differential equations. It generates code to solve the equations in
Unicon. Using the Taylor series, estimates are made of the location and
order of poles. An effort is made to adjust H to control the error. It has
worked well in testing, but needs more testing as there are so many
possibilities. To solve STIFF equations, MAX_TERMS may be set.
Differentiation done automatically.
Changes: Fixes were made to singularity estimation and adjustment of step
size. The move to APFP or ureal was completed. Running of test problems is
now automated through the Makefile and a script. Test data is now included
in the distribution.

[064] - Tablix 0.3.4
by Tomaz Solc (http://freshmeat.net/users/Avian/)
Mon, Nov 13th 2006 05:50
Office/Business :: Scheduling
About: Tablix is a powerful free software kernel for solving general
timetabling problems. It uses a coarse-grained parallel genetic algorithm
in combination with other techniques to construct sensible timetables from
XML formatted problem descriptions. Tablix can run on a single host as well
as on a heterogeneous parallel virtual machine using PVM3. The default
installation will export finished timetables into XHTML 1.1 format ready
for publishing on the Internet, or into a "comma separated values" format
(CSV) that is suitable for import into a spreadsheet application and
further processing. The kernel supports a very wide range of timetabling
problems, from high school timetabling to barge scheduling. Several
timetable constraints are already implemented in the default installation.
Because of the kernel's modular design, it is easy to add custom timetable
constraints and/or modify existing ones.
Changes: Two fitness modules for simple meeting scheduling and an export
module for Gnutu Student's Schedule were added to the distribution.
Several changes were made to the kernel to make building and using Tablix
on Microsoft systems easier. A number of bugs in the kernel and modules
was fixed.

Software Development
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Debuggers
About: Ultimate++ is a cross-platform C++ rapid application development
suite. It includes set of libraries (for things like GUI and SQL) and an
integrated development environment. Rapid development is achieved by smart
and aggressive use of C++ rather than through fancy code generators. In
this respect, U++ competes with popular scripting languages while
preserving C/C++ runtime characteristics. Its integrated development
environment, TheIDE, introduces modular conception to C++ programming, and
can be used to develop non-U++ applications.

[074] - ZoneMinder 10152006 (ViewMAX)
by John Ellis (http://freshmeat.net/users/berlinerkindl/)
Mon, Nov 13th 2006 23:21
Multimedia :: Video
Multimedia :: Video :: Capture
Multimedia :: Video :: Display
About: ZoneMinder is a suite of applications intended for use in video
camera security applications, including theft prevention and child or
family member monitoring. It supports capture, analysis, recording, and
monitoring of video data coming from one or more video or network cameras
attached to a Linux system. It also features a user-friendly Web interface
which allows viewing, archival, review, and deletion of images and movies
captured by the cameras. The image analysis system is highly configurable,
permitting retention of specific events, while eliminating false positives.
ZoneMinder supports both directly connected and network cameras and is
built around the definition of a set of individual 'zones' of varying
sensitivity and functionality for each camera. This allows the elimination
of regions which should be ignored or the definition of areas which will
alarm if various thresholds are exceeded in conjunction with other zones.
All management, control, and other functions are supported through the Web
interface.
