[003] - Areca 4.1.5
  by Olivier PETRUCCI (http://freshmeat.net/users/aventin/)
  Fri, Dec 1st 2006 10:52

System :: Archiving :: Backup

About: Areca is a file backup system that supports data compression and
encryption, incremental backups, a file history explorer, and many other
features. It includes a transaction mechanism, which guarantees the
integrity of your backups. Two user interfaces are available: a
command-line interface (useful for backup process automation) and a
graphical user interface (useful for general administration tasks).

Changes: This version includes a stronger encryption module (the key is
now generated from a passphrase of arbitrary length using MD5/SHA hash
functions) and some bugfixes. Note that if you have encrypted archives, it
is strongly advised (but not mandatory) to rebuid them with this new
version.

  by nivek1385 (http://freshmeat.net/users/nivek1385/)
  Fri, Dec 1st 2006 01:27

Games/Entertainment

About: Ca$h or Cra$h is a computerized clone of the US version of the
"Deal or No Deal" game show. The game consist of selecting one of
twenty-six cases, each with a random amount of money inside at preselected
values ranging from a penny to $1 million. Then each of the other
twenty-five cases are opened, one at a time, knocking off values. Every so
often, the banker will offer you an amount of money for your case. The game
ends when you either make a deal for your case or you open one of two
remaining cases.

Changes: The stat screen bug with a single game's average offer was fixed.
The location of the scores file was changed from the home directory of the
current user to "/var/games/cash-crash".

  Fri, Dec 1st 2006 09:36

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Cibyl is a programming environment that allows compiled C programs
to execute on J2ME-capable phones. Cibyl uses GCC to compile the C
programs to MIPS binaries, and these are then recompiled into Java
bytecode. The programs are not parsed during runtime, and Cibyl is
therefore relatively well-performing. With Cibyl, games written in C can
be ported to J2ME without switching language.

Changes: Cibyl now generates one Java method per C function, which
improves performance and enables profiling of Cibyl programs.
Register/local variable use has been optimized, which saves space. A more
efficient C implementation of malloc has been added. Initial limited
support for floating point operations has been implemented, and various
minor issues and bugs have been fixed.

[008] - CLC Free Workbench 3.1
  by Thomas (http://freshmeat.net/users/tknudsen/)
  Fri, Dec 1st 2006 10:26

Education
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics

About: CLC Free Workbench enables users to perform bioinformatics analyses
and smooth data management, combined with excellent graphical viewing and
output options. Some of the features are GenBank searching, including
download facilities and full graphical overview; user-friendly graphical
tools for viewing DNA, RNA, and protein sequences; full integration of
data input, data management, calculations results, and data export; DNA,
RNA, and protein alignment tools; reverse translation; restriction site
analysis; and phylogenetic analyses.

Changes: Greatly improved data import: manual work is reduced
significantly when importing large amounts of data, e.g when shifting from
old software to CLC software. Much better handling of very large sequences:
much less memory use makes the application smoother to work with.
Significantly better data handling makes actions like deletion of files
and working with many files at a time much faster. Pre-defined style
sheets for the preference panel. Greatly improved export of graphics.
Greatly improved printing.

[010] - Conary 1.0.40 (1.0)
  by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
  Fri, Dec 1st 2006 10:37

Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.

Changes: Most changes are improvements in dependency calculation.

[011] - Daikon 4.2.12
  by Jeff Perkins (http://freshmeat.net/users/jhpnez/)
  Fri, Dec 1st 2006 14:45

Documentation
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: Daikon is an implementation of dynamic detection of likely
invariants. An invariant is a property (such as "x=2*y+5" or
"this.next.prev = this" or "myarray is sorted by <") that holds at a
certain point or points in a program. Invariants are often seen in assert
statements, documentation, and formal specifications. Invariants can be
useful in program understanding and a host of other applications. Daikon
runs a program, observes the values that the program computes, and then
reports properties that were true over the observed executions. It can
detect properties in Java, C, C++, Perl, and IOA programs, in spreadsheet
files, and in other data sources.

Changes: InvariantChecker was enhanced to handle multiple input files and
count the violations for each file. Some minor enhancements and bugfixes
were made to Daikon.

[018] - idioskopos 0.3.2
  by Rick Vinyard (http://freshmeat.net/users/rvinyard/)
  Fri, Dec 1st 2006 10:38

Software Development

About: idioskopos (Greek: idio- inward, within, private; -skopos look,
aim, target) is a C++ library that simplifies the addition of object
reflection and introspection to C++ classes. It provides classes for
implementing properties (internal storage), reference properties (a
property interface to an externally stored value under your control), and
virtual properties (a property interface created from get and set methods
you supply). The approach taken is intrusive. One advantage is that
special preprocessors are not necessary, either for your own code or for
those that use your code. A disadvantage of an intrusive approach is just
that; it's intrusive, meaning you must explicitly state what class members
are properties and instantiate them in your constructors.

Changes: This release adds support for registering and dynamically
creating introspectable properties that are std::vectors or
std::tr1::arrays (or boost::arrays). Some of the convenience macros have
been cleaned up and extended in functionality.

[033] - SRESI 0.16.3
  by Priscus (http://freshmeat.net/users/priscus/)
  Fri, Dec 1st 2006 13:36

Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search

About: SRESI is a smart bookmark manager. It currently sports both a
command-line and a PHP interface. It works with both the standard
hierarchical trees and the new and fashionable tagged bookmarks. It was
developed as a way to interface both representation systems. SRESI can use
Del.icio.us, Mozilla, Opera, and XBEL bookmarks, and handles a few more
exports besides. Directories and tags are used equivalently, and the final
hierarchies are inferred from actual tag use.

Changes: Exports to DSV now escape any vertical bar in bookmarks names or
tags; DSV imports unescape them. A tag count function was added, which
expands to a rudimentary tag cloud when called from the PHP scripts.

[036] - TiVo File Decoder 0.1.1
  by Jeremy Drake (http://freshmeat.net/users/jeremyd2019/)
  Fri, Dec 1st 2006 01:33

Multimedia :: Video :: Conversion

About: TiVo File Decoder software converts a .TiVo file (produced by the
TiVoToGo functionality on recent TiVo software releases) to a normal MPEG
file. This has the same functionality as using TiVo's supplied DirectShow
DLL on Windows with a tool such as DirectShowDump, but is portable to
different architectures and operating systems, and runs on the command
line using files or pipes. The conversion still requires the valid MAK of
the TiVo which recorded the file, so it cannot be used to circumvent their
protection, simply to provide the same level of access as is already
available on Windows.

  Fri, Dec 1st 2006 01:32

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: User Interfaces

About: Wt is a C++ library for developing Web applications with an API
that is widget-centric and inspired by existing C++ graphical user
interface APIs. To the developer, it offers complete abstraction of any
Web-specific implementation details. Under the hood, the library uses the
latest techniques (AJAX) to handle user events and update the Web page.

Changes: This is a sneak preview for Wt 2.0.0. It has numerous
improvements in the API, as well as improved session management options,
allowing the allocation of multiple sessions in one process.
Multi-threaded request handling was implemented, including concurrent
streaming of reentrant WResources (such as WFileResource). Session
tracking was made more flexible (URL and/or cookies), and an XML-based
configuration file is used. Wt now builds and works fine on non-32 bit
platforms (tested on AMD64).
