[001] - AIMLBot (Program#) 2.0
  by ntoll (http://freshmeat.net/users/ntoll/)
  Sat, Dec 2nd 2006 10:41

About: AIMLBot (Program#) is a small, fast, standards-compliant yet easily
customizable .NET DLL implementation of an AIML (Artificial Intelligence
Markup Language) based chatter bot. It boasts cross-platform
compatibility, a modular architecture, a simple and logical API, standards
compliant AIML support with the option for extensions via custom tags, very
small size (currently only 52k), and very fast performance (over 30,000
categories processed in under a second).

Changes: This version was completely rewritten from scratch. Lots of
performance improvements were made. Functionality to allow users to extend
the bot's capabilities was added. This was tested on both Mono and .NET 1.1
and 2.0.

  by Richard Harris (http://freshmeat.net/users/r_e_h/)
  Sat, Dec 2nd 2006 10:25

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: Deep is a content management system that serves HTML, preformatted
text, Deep shorthand content, or the output of a Lua script using simple
templates and CSS. There are hooks to sell this content either by single
page or multi-page set through PayPal. You can use Deep to publish other
peoples' work, diverting a percentage of the payments to the publisher and
allowing the rest to go directly to the author. To promote fairness, the
server makes these percentages public. Deep is also a blog server, using
simple uploaded text files for entries and generating all indices on the
fly. It does not use a database and requires only a cgi-bin directory on a
Unix server.

Changes: Error logs indicated a fair number of HTTP requests for a
directory instead of a page. These requests now receive the default page
in lieu of an error message.

[020] - OfflineIMAP 4.0.16

  Sat, Dec 2nd 2006 12:15

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP

About: OfflineIMAP is a tool to simplify email reading. It allows you to
read the same mailbox from multiple computers and ensures that your
changes will be automatically reflected on all computers. You can use
various mail clients to read a single box or read mail while offline with
full synchronization when you reconnect. You can read IMAP mail with
readers that lack IMAP support (same goes for SSL). OfflineIMAP's
multithreaded synchronization algorithm performs between 10 and 60 times
faster than many mail readers' internal IMAP support, and it can be used
even with mail readers that support IMAP already. There are five available
user interface modules, including scripted execution, an interactive
terminal interface, and GUI interfaces.

Changes: A bug introduced in 4.0.15 that could cause OfflineIMAP to crash
when downloading mail from certain servers was fixed. The FAQ was moved
from the manual to the OfflineIMAP wiki, and a dump of it is included in
the source tree.

[021] - OpenCSG 1.1.0
  by Florian Kirsch (http://freshmeat.net/users/FlorianKirsch/)
  Sat, Dec 2nd 2006 19:45

Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Rendering

About: OpenCSG is a library that does image-based CSG rendering using
OpenGL. CSG is short for "constructive solid geometry" and represents a
modeling technique for composing shapes with 3D-primitives which are
combined using volumetric boolean operations. Image-based CSG rendering
means rendering CSG shapes without calculating their surface in
object-space. Instead, the image of a CSG shape is composed directly in
the frame-buffer of the graphics hardware by rather sophisticated
stenciling and z- buffer operations.

Changes: OpenCSG can now use OpenGL frame buffer objects as an alternative
to pbuffers to do the internal CSG rendering calculations. This potentially
reduces the rendering overhead because no switching between different
rendering contexts is required. Several other bugs have been fixed.

System :: Archiving :: Backup

About: rdup is a utility inspired by rsync and the Plan9 way of doing
backups. rdup itself does not backup anything; it only prints a list of
the names of files that have changed since the last backup. It also
handles files that are removed, allowing for correct incremental backups.
Auxilary scripts are needed to act on this list and implement the backup
strategy. This way rdup can be kept lean and mean.

[029] - RPL/2 4.00pre8r (Development)
  by JKB (http://freshmeat.net/users/jkb/)
  Sat, Dec 2nd 2006 10:56

Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Software Development :: Interpreters

About: RPL/2 (Reverse Polish Lisp/2) is a langage derived from the RPL
made by Hewlett-Packard for its HP-28S. It has some extensions
(preprocessor, compilated libraries, new functions), a TeX output, and can
draw graphics.

Changes: creation_nom_fichier() was rewritten to force all processes to
create different file names when RPL/2 spawns some child processes. RANLUX
was removed from the source tree to use the GSL library and avoid a bug in
gfortran-4.1. readline-5.2 and units-1.86 are now used. The SEQUENCE
statement was added in fonctions_speciales.f90 to fix a build failure with
gfortran-4.1.

[030] - rsstool 0.9.10
  by Dirk (http://freshmeat.net/users/noisyb/)
  Sat, Dec 2nd 2006 10:26

Internet

About: rsstool is a tool to read, parse, merge, and write RSS (and Atom)
feeds. It has some other functions built-in like text, HTML, or property
file output, or templates with custom tags to insert RSS feeds into pages
that could be uploaded to a server that supports only static HTML.

Changes: Some small fixes were made. Another small change was made to the
ANSI SQL structure, which should greatly improve speed of searches. The
--sqlold option was added to output as ANSI SQL script (old structure).

[031] - SMS Server Tools 2.2.13
  by Stefan Frings (http://freshmeat.net/users/sfrings/)
  Sat, Dec 2nd 2006 10:36

Communications

About: The SMS Server Tools send and receive short messages through GSM
modems or mobile phones. The user can send short messages by simply
storing text files into a special spool directory. The program monitors
this directory and sends new files automatically. It also stores received
short messages into another directory as text files. The program can run
other external programs or scripts after events like reception of a new
message, successful sending, and when the program detects a problem. These
programs can inspect the related text files and perform automatic actions.

Changes: A buffer error that caused abnormal program termination during
reading the config file on some systems has been resolved.

[033] - statist 1.4.1
  by Jakson Aquino (http://freshmeat.net/users/jakson/)
  Sat, Dec 2nd 2006 19:39

Education
Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: Statist is a statistics program with an interactive menu that makes
it very easy to use. It can also be run in scripts, and large data sets are
handled reasonably well even on small machines. In spite of its low
overhead, it can do quite a few regression functions and tests. It can
produce colorized output, and uses gnuplot to create graphics.

Changes: Statist now can open CSV files. It will try to discover whether
the file has a header with column names, what the field separator is, and
what the decimal separator is. If necessary, these parameters may be set
using command line options. Gnuplot graphics now can have strings with
letters of different alphabets if the environment charset is UTF-8 and the
user chooses UTF-8 as the "gnuplot_charset" in the statistrc file. The menu
item "Save last gnuplot graphic as png" was added.

[036] - XMLSysInfo 0.98.26
  by Moritz Grimm (http://freshmeat.net/users/mgrimm/)
  Sat, Dec 2nd 2006 10:07

System :: Diagnostics
System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: XSI is an easy-to-use, secure, and comprehensive system monitoring
daemon that replies to network queries with XML-encoded system information
and statistics. This data can then be analyzed, graphed, or otherwise
presented by a front-end.

Changes: Both major feature enhancements and major bugfixes made it into
this release. XSI now reports interesting information about processes on
all supported operating systems, with the ability to suppress usernames
from the output. Usability was improved with a new -h[elp] command line
parameter. Bugfixes in the FreeBSD port plug a nasty memory leak and
prevent a crash. The NetBSD port is more robust. Signal handling has been
improved and fixed on Solaris. A small (non-backwards compatible) fix was
done in the XML Schema.

[039] - zufall 0.1.4
  by morb (http://freshmeat.net/users/morbach/)
  Sat, Dec 2nd 2006 10:24

Desktop Environment
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers

About: zufall is a simple program to change the background periodically.
It takes one or more directories with images as a parameter (no GUI) and
sets a randomly chosen image as background. If there is a border
remaining, its color is the average color of two corners of the image.
This mostly fits the image very well. It doesn't work if the root window
is hidden by another program, like in Gnome or KDE. However, it is
possible to execute a configurable command to effect the change whenever
the image is supposed to change.

Changes: A list of files can now be obtained from stdin. There is a new
parameter to ignore images smaller than a specified filesize.
