Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: Aranea is a hierarchical Model-View-Controller Web framework that
provides a common, simple approach to building Web application components,
reusing custom or general GUI logic, and extending the framework. The
framework enforces programming using object oriented techniques with POJOs
and provides a JSP tag library that facilitates the programming of Web GUIs
without writing HTML. In addition to being a full-fledged Web framework in
its own right, it provides a powerful and simple component system that
allows the framework to be tailored by configuring the reusable modules
and adding modules only for the missing features.

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Address Book
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
About: Brutus is an Exchange connector and development framework that
offers access to all of MAPI and therefore to all versions of Microsoft
Exchange from version 5.5 onwards. It is a complete wrapping of all of
MAPI into a (large) set of CORBA interfaces. It enables any groupware
client to integrate seamlessly into any organization with large Exchange
deployments on an equal footing with MS Outlook. Being based on CORBA, it
is platform independent, and works equally well on Linux, the BSDs,
Windows, or wherever there is a CORBA implementation available.
Changes: The biggest new feature is the ability to work offline with your
Exchange account(s). This means that you can right-click any Exchange
folder and check the offline access checkbox. This will download the
folder content for offline access. The offline access is read-only. You
can also choose to synchronize all content without choosing every single
individual folder. This is controlled in the evolution-brutus account
setup.

About: cdrtools (formerly cdrecord) creates home-burned CDs/DVDs with a
CDR/CDRW/DVD recorder. It works as a burn engine for several applications.
It supports CD/DVD recorders from many different vendors; all SCSI-3/mmc-
and ATAPI/mmc-compliant drives should also work. Supported features
include IDE/ATAPI, parallel port, and SCSI drives, audio CDs, data CDs,
and mixed CDs, full multi-session support, CDRWs (rewritable), DVD-R/-RW,
DVD+R/+RW, TAO, DAO, RAW, and human-readable error messages. cdrtools
includes remote SCSI support and can access local or remote CD/DVD
writers.
Changes: Linux distributions that do not provide a "HZ" macro in
include/sys/param.h are now dealt with. Automatic ATA was disabled on
pre-Linux-2.6 systems. The new cdrecord option -minfo is now almost
complete. cdrecord -msinfo now prints the right values for "multi-session"
(multi-border) DVD-R and DVD+R. cdrecord -atip output for DVD media was
enhanced and updated for DVD+R/DL and HD-DVD. New mkisofs options
-posix-H, -posix-L, and -posix-P implement the -H, -L, and -P options
defined by POSIX.1-2001. The short inline help for mkisofs now prints a
short overview of the most important options in 80x24 characters.

Mon, Dec 4th 2006 14:11
About: inotail is a replacement for the 'tail' program found in the base
installation of every Linux/Unix system. It makes use of the inotify
infrastructure in recent versions of the Linux kernel to speed up tailing

every second by default, while inotail listens to special events sent by
the kernel through the inotify API to determine whether a file needs to be
reread.
Changes: Support for the '-n/-c +<num>' options (tail relative to start of
file) has been added. Cleanup regarding copyright and license issues was
done across the tree. This release also contains various minor fixes

[028] - Kdenlive 0.4
by Stéphane Fillod (http://freshmeat.net/users/fillods/)
Mon, Dec 4th 2006 14:00
Multimedia :: Video :: Non-Linear Editor
About: Kdenlive is a non-linear video editor for KDE. It provides all
project management and editing tools while relying on a separate rendering
framework (currently MLT/FFmpeg) to perform the editing operations.
Kdenlive provides dual video monitors, a multi-track timeline, and clip
list. Other features include customizable layout support, basic effects
and transitions, multiple file formats, and full project and asset
management support. Editing in Kdenlive is possible with various tools via
the timeline and video monitors, allowing you to move and resize one or
more clips, and razor clips into two. All timeline tools can snap to clip
start/ends and the current seek position. You may playback/preview the
contents of the timeline at any point during the edit. Kdenlive
communicates with a render engine which handles the actual video data.
Changes: This release includes Firewire capture and a basic DVD wizard.
Support has been extended to PAL/NTSC 4:3 and 16:9. The rendering is now
non-blocking. The GUI has been improved with many timeline enhancements.
You can insert a Kdenlive project-like a clip inside another project, and
clips can be arranged in folders. Many new effects and transitions are
available. This release is available in English, French, German, and
Spanish.

About: Many project are mirrored worldwide. Mirmon helps in monitoring
these mirrors. In a concise graphic format, mirmon shows each site's
history of the last two weeks, making it easy to spot stale or dead
mirrors. Mirmon quietly probes a subset of the sites in a given list,
writes the results in the 'state' file, and generates a Web page with the
results.

[032] - Nodezilla 0.4.23
by plop (http://freshmeat.net/users/smkaribou/)
Mon, Dec 4th 2006 04:26
Communications :: File Sharing
Internet
About: Nodezilla is a secured, distributed, and fault tolerant routing
system (or grid network) that supports distributed services such as file
sharing, chat, efficient video multicast streaming, and secured file
storage. It provides cache features where any server may create a local
replica of any data object. These local replicas provide faster access
and robustness to network partitions, and reduce network congestion by
localizing access traffic. To ensure data protection, redundancy and
cryptographic techniques are used.
Changes: Bugs and memory leaks were fixed. Some CPU oriented tuning was
done, but the most important change is the new base for the protocol
supporting NAT traversal. It's not publicly enabled yet, but as it's a
protocol break, you will need to update to this version or you will be
left behind when other nodes get upgraded. Also, all support libraries
have been updated to their most recent release.

System :: Archiving
System :: Archiving :: Backup
About: PeaZip (formerly Pea-Peach) is an archiver tool that supports its
native Pea archive format (featuring compression, splitting, and flexible
encryption and integrity check schemes) and other mainstream formats, with
special focus on handling open formats. It fully supports raw file
splitting and joining, 7z, 7zip sfx, Bzip2, Gzip, Pea, Tar, and Zip. It
has browse/extract-only support for Z (the format used by the Unix
"compress" command). PeaZip doesn't follow the Explorer-like interface
paradigm; the interface is more similar to a CD/DVD-burner application.
Changes: This update is focused on giving the program more usability
through many UI improvements and fixes. The Windows version now also runs
fine on 9x systems. The most frequently used functions, such as adding to
an archive or extracting to the current location are accessible from
shortcuts in the SendTo menu. The Windows installer now asks whether to
create additional file associations. A Gtk2 build and the traditional
build for Gtk1 are now also available for Linux. Both Linux versions are
standalone.

Communications :: Chat :: ICQ
Communications :: Chat :: Internet Relay Chat
About: psyced is a distributed chat and messaging system based on the
Protocol for SYnchronous Conferencing. PSYC is multicast and routed
between servers and clients in a scalable and efficient way, but users can
also comfortably use IRC clients, telnet, Web chat, or Jabber to enter the
network. psyced communicates with Jabber/XMPP servers and hosts chat rooms
that are freely programmable and cannot be hacked. It also provides
gateways to several IRC networks, but unlike IRC, everyone can run a
server and be an equal member of the PSYC network.
Changes: The ability to link into IRC networks as an IRC service was
added, resulting in all functionality of psyced becoming available to each
IRC network user, like federated messaging with PSYC and XMPP/Jabber users,
extensive friendship modeling, presence, trust metrics, Web-based profiles,
and even newscast subscriptions. A multiprotocol /ping command was added.
SRV support was fixed to compile on BSD. The ability to automatically
upgrade XMPP to the PSYC protocol was fixed. Support for gentoo portage
was improved. Several minor fixes were made.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
About: Savane is a Web-based Free Software hosting system, originally
based on SourceForge 2.0. It currently includes issue tracking, project
and member management, mailing lists, and individual account maintenance.
The issue tracking handles bugs, tasks, and support. The issue tracker's
fields ware configurable in many ways: mandatory of not, shown to users
according to their role in a group, and with transition management.
Changes: A markup language enables users to format content, for instance
in item reports. Numerous anti-spam tools are now available: DNSbl,
SpamAssassin, and the ability for users to flag content as spam. The item
page layout has been reorganized so that editing the item attributes or
inserting a comment no longer require scrolling of the window. The various
sections are folded (and can be unfolded by a simple click) to provide a
more condensed layout. It is possible to create squads to group small
teams of members that must be assigned items together.

Mon, Dec 4th 2006 14:04
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters
About: Seed7 is a general purpose programming language. It is a higher
level language compared to Ada, C++, and Java. In Seed7, new statements
and operators can be declared easily. Functions with type results and type
parameters are more elegant than a template or generics concept. Object
orientation is used when it brings advantages and not in places when other
solutions are more obvious. Although Seed7 contains several concepts of
other programming languages, it is generally not considered as a direct
descendant of any other programming language.
Changes: The functions bigLength, seek, and bigTell were added to support
files with 64-bit offsets. The functions getwd, getln, read, and readln
were changed to remove '\r' before '\n'. Parameters of type bigInteger
were changed to use call by reference. The putf function (to copy a string
to a file) was changed, and a writef function was added. Functions to split
and join strings and a check for those functions were added. The
comparisons = and <> for arrays were added. An implementation for 'set of
string' based on the 'hash' type was added. A new makefile (makefile.msy)
for MinGW MSYS compilation was added.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
About: SRESI is a smart bookmark manager. It currently sports both a
command-line and a PHP interface. It works with both the standard
hierarchical trees and the new and fashionable tagged bookmarks. It was
developed as a way to interface both representation systems. SRESI can use
Del.icio.us, Mozilla, Opera, and XBEL bookmarks, and handles a few more
exports besides. Directories and tags are used equivalently, and the final
hierarchies are inferred from actual tag use.
Changes: The interface choked on empty selection patterns instead of
sending back everything. Some code was factored in the
Bookmarks.collection methods, and the interface module was cleaned-up
somewhat. This release escapes and unescapes vertical bars in DSV. There
is now a tag count function, though no tag cloud yet. Users can ask for
partial exports, including from the PHP scripts and for the dynamic
portal. The framework for unbalancing optimisations was re-added, along
with its most trivial uses.

About: white_dune is a graphical VRML97 editor, simple NURBS/Superformula
3D modeller and animation tool. VRML97 (Virtual Reality Modeling Language)
is the ISO standard for displaying 3D data over the Web via browser plugins
("HTML for realtime 3D"). It has support for animation, real-time
interaction, and multimedia (images, movies, and sounds). white_dune can
read, create and display VRML97 files and let the user change the
scenegraph/fields. It also has support for stereoscopic view via
"quadbuffer"-capable stereo visuals, and support for 3D input devices like
a joystick, spaceball, or magnetic tracker.
Changes: A crash which occurred when exporting AC3Db files was fixed. An
unnecessary bugmessage in case of SIGPIPE was fixed. The -ac3d commandline
option was added. The - argument was added for receiving from input pipes.
