[001] - ACL2 3.1
by Jared Davis (http://freshmeat.net/users/aiken11/)
Tue, Dec 5th 2006 00:07
Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Scientific/Engineering :: Electronic Design Automation (EDA)
About: ACL2 is a mathematical logic, programming language, and mechanical
theorem prover based on the applicative subset of Common Lisp. It is an
"industrial-strength" version of the NQTHM or Boyer/Moore theorem prover,
and has been used for the formal verification of commercial
microprocessors, the Java Virtual Machine, interesting algorithms, and so
forth.
Changes: A few soundness bugs were identified and corrected along with
several potential hard Lisp errors and other minor issues. The performance
of theory invariants has been improved. New books include a
resolution/paramodulation prover, concurrency modelling, transfinite
induction, and a simplification utility. A new "trust tag" feature allows
the use of potentially unsafe features in ACL2 extensions.

Tue, Dec 5th 2006 08:34
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
System :: Networking
About: Crossroads is a load balance and failover utility for TCP-based
services. It is a daemon program running in userspace and features
extensive configurability, polling of backends using "wakeup calls",
highly configurable dispatch modes of client requests to back ends,
detailed status reporting, "hooks" for special actions when backend calls
fail, support for "sticky" HTTP sessions, and more. It is
service-independent; it is usable for HTTP(S), SSH, SMTP, DNS, MySQL, etc.
Changes: This is the next development version of Crossroads. There are
some small changes, such as a bugfix in connection counting and better
support for Connection-Type specifiers in HTTP. Crossroads now supports
"allow" and "deny" lists, similar to the feature in Apache, to block
access to Crossroads to specific IP addresses or networks. Such lists can
be refreshed and reloaded in a running Crossroads instance without causing
service interruptions.

connect to it. It supports multiple client connections to one IRC server
(under the same nick), allowing you to connect to IRC using your IRC nick,
even while you have an IRC session open somewhere else. It supports logging
(in any user-specified format), password authentication, and CTCP (in case
no clients are connected). IRC servers can be contacted over IPv6 and/or
using SSL. Automatic identification with NickServ is supported, as well as
various types of backlog.
Changes: Several memory leaks have been fixed. Configuration has been
simplified. The documentation has been updated.

Software Development :: Widget Sets
About: FOX is a C++-based toolkit for GUI development. It includes a rich
set of widgets and has powerful yet simple layout managers, MDI widgets,
and mega-widgets. FOX incorporates support for XDND for drag and drop, X
clipboard and X Selection, watching other I/O channels and sockets, timers
and idle processing, object serialization and deserialization, a registry
to save persistent settings, and 3D widgets using Mesa or OpenGL. FOX
works on Linux, IRIX, Solaris, HP/UX, AIX, Tru64 Unix, Windows 9x,NT,2K
(VC++, GNUWIN32, Borland, VisualAge C++), FreeBSD, and Sequent.
Changes: FXThreadPool::execute() now returns FXWorker instead of a flag;
this is convenient as you now have a handle to the thread responsible for
executing your FXRunnable. A few buglets were fixed in FXThreadPool,
particularly having to do with weird cases like stopping the FXThreadPool
while trying to schedule new jobs, etc. FXCondition::wait() now returns a
flag also; return value is true if the function returns due to the
condition being signalled, and false if interrupted or if there were
errors. The overloaded version also returns false if the wait-time
expired.

[026] - idioskopos 0.3.3

Tue, Dec 5th 2006 00:04
Software Development
About: idioskopos (Greek: idio- inward, within, private; -skopos look,
aim, target) is a C++ library that simplifies the addition of object
reflection and introspection to C++ classes. It provides classes for
implementing properties (internal storage), reference properties (a
property interface to an externally stored value under your control), and
virtual properties (a property interface created from get and set methods
you supply). The approach taken is intrusive. One advantage is that
special preprocessors are not necessary, either for your own code or for
those that use your code. A disadvantage of an intrusive approach is just
that; it's intrusive, meaning you must explicitly state what class members
are properties and instantiate them in your constructors.
Changes: This release fixes a bug where WriteOnlyPropertyBase had an
overloaded method conflict that prevented compilation on i386.

System :: Archiving :: Mirroring
Utilities
About: psync is a distribution mirroring utility. Its main goal is to be
able to update a distribution mirror but keep it as consistent as
possible. It also aims to support as many distributions as possible. It's
more like debmirror, but with more distros (repo types) support. One of
the main problems updating a mirror is that if the mirroring process is
stopped for any reason, the mirror stays inconsistent: either some of the
packages in the old databases were removed, or not all the new packages
were downloaded. psync aims to fix this.
Changes: A warning is given for a repository which was requested via the
command line which doesn't have a definition in the configuration file.
Error handling was improved. The consistency implementation is more
correct. More drivers were added for CPAN, Mozilla, and OpenOfficeOrg.

Changes: The Symbol (previously named Definition) table was extended from
the Underlying and ProductMap tables, and Underlying from distinct tables
Stock, Currency, and Miscellany. The Security table was eliminated from
the DBMS as there is now a direct foreign key chain from Underlying to

Office/Business
About: VMT (formerly Vehicle Maintenance Tracker) tracks the maintenance
of multiple properties. Property can include vehicles, boats, planes,
buildings, etc. This project is comparible to Auto-Do-It. Since this
program uses Java, it is cross-platform.
Changes: This release fixed a mistake in file conversion that lost the
comments for each property, the inability to add a new property to an
existing file, and the inability to add a new fuel or maintenance record
at the end of the list. The fuel log (if open or minimized) is now brought
to the front after closing a fuel editor.

About: Virtual Appliances are nano-sized virtual machines with Web user
interfaces for deploying instant infrastructure and applications. They are
Gentoo Linux based and optimized for use in VMware and Xen. Virtual
Appliances are free to download and use, and you can choose from a simple
Web server, an Apache Tomcat server, a MySQL server, and a PostgreSQL
server.
Changes: This Virtual Appliance server runs Cacti, which is a network
graphing solution based on RDDTool. It is used to provide real-time and
historical visualization of network activities. The Cacti Server includes
onboard MySQL and PHPmyAdmin in a 40MB download package to run under any
VMWare product or VirtualPC. As with other Virtual Appliances, this Cacti
Server can use Virtual Hard drives automatically, which allows for a
database of any practical size.

[066] - YXA 2006-12-05 (Development)
by Fredrik Thulin (http://freshmeat.net/users/fredrikthulin/)
Tue, Dec 5th 2006 02:20
About: YXA is a SIP stack and a set of SIP server applications written in
Erlang/OTP. The SIP stack is RFC3261 compliant. Among the features
implemented are SIP registrar, SIP router, forking, CPL, IPv6, TLS, ENUM,
PSTN gateway access control and modular user database backends. The main
goal of the project is to create a robust SIP server platform that can
scale to tens of thousands of users, be interoperable through standards
compliance, and still have short time-to-market for new features due to
the use of a high level language.
Changes: Many bugfixes and code cleanups were made.
