[001] - 3rd Edition Dungeons & Dragons Character Generator 3.2
by Slicer (http://freshmeat.net/users/slicer/)
Sun, Dec 10th 2006 11:43
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing
About: 3rd Edition Dungeons and Dragons Character Generator is an
HTML/JavaScript Web page that allows the user to quickly and easily create
new Dungeons and Dragons characters. The characters can be of any of the
eleven classes, any of the playable races, and may start at any level from
1 to 220. Generation requires some simple input, after which the character
is displayed on a basic character sheet. It allows you to select your
starting stats, add ability points, and pick skills, equipment, feats, and
spells. It runs on most operating systems with most modern browsers.

System :: Diagnostics
System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
About: Bartlby is a network and system monitor, completely written in C,
to provide a scalable framework with the ability to monitor networks of
various sizes. It consists of a core daemon, several plugins, and a Web
GUI (PHP extension). The core daemon checks (over active/passive TCP)
services/hosts and notifies users in case of critical service conditions
(mail, SMS, ICQ, and custom triggers are supported). Bartlby provides an
open plugin interface to give every administrator an easy to use option to
extend the plugin base, and a fully customizable GUI (written in PHP using
a C extension). Nearby everything can be controlled via an XML interface.
Changes: A lot of fixes/changes to boost the performance, especially on
larger setups. Many things in the UI have been re-made using xajax. The
agent now has a new protocol, and optionally supports SSL.

profiler; and an Emacs-like editor implemented in Common Lisp. CMUCL is
maintained by a team of volunteers collaborating over the Internet, and is
mostly in the public domain.
Changes: A new float type EXT:DOUBLE-DOUBLE-FLOAT is supported. A
DOUBLE-DOUBLE-FLOAT uses two DOUBLE-FLOATs to represent a number with >=
106 bits of precision (about 33 digits). Hash tables now support weak
value, weak key- and-value, and weak key-or-value tables. LONG-LONG and
UNSIGNED-LONG-LONG are recognized types in the C-CALL package for signed
and unsigned 64-bit integers. The generational garbage collector has been
ported to Darwin/ PPC. Numerous bugs and ANSI-compliance problems have
been fixed.

Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries
About: The OpenDBX library provides a unified and consistent API for
software developers to different database management systems. The function
library is written in the C programming language and aims at implementing
access to the native database interfaces efficiently via a thin
abstraction layer. It consists of a basic set of functions that are part
of all vendor database libraries and can be extended by additional
function blocks. Currently, Firebird/Interbase, MS SQL Server, MySQL,
Oracle PostgreSQL, SQLite 2 and 3, and Sybase ASE are supported.
Changes: The Valgrind memchecker revealed some minor memory leaks in the
mysql, sqlite, sqlite3, and firebird backends. They all occurred when
creating or releasing a connection and might have been a problem if many
connections were established or a single connection was recreated
frequently. Also, a serious bug in the sqlite3 backend was fixed which
could lead to an infinite loop if a backend error occured in
sqlite3_odbx_result(). The spec file for creating RPM files was updated.
The check for the memset function in the configure script was updated.

Changes: This is a minor release to fix some text to make things easier to
understand, and to fix building on Linux with nant. This is also likely the
last GPL release; the next release will be LGPL or perhaps even BSD
licensed.

[059] - Visual Paradigm for UML Modeler Edition 6.0
by Visual Paradigm International Ltd.
(http://freshmeat.net/users/StellaAu/)
Sun, Dec 10th 2006 20:26
About: Visual Paradigm for UML is a powerful, easy-to-use UML modelling
and CASE tool. It lets you draw all types of UML diagrams, reverse source
code to UML models, generate source code from UML diagrams, and much more.
It features the latest UML support (use case diagrams, class diagrams,
component diagrams, etc.), incremental round-trip engineering, instant
reverse for Java, C++, Dot NET exe/dll, XML, XML Schema, and CORBA IDL,
Rational Rose support, Microsoft Visio integration, and report and
HTML/PDF documentation generators.
Changes: A new persistent architecture improves speed and memory usage in
handling middle to large scale projects, both in local and teamwork
environments. You can design your own notation with Shape Editor. Data
Flow Diagram is supported. A large diagram can be sliced into a specified
number of output images. You may add files, URLs, and diagram references
to models for elaboration or navigation purposes. Instant Reverse can
visualize your implementation as a Class diagram with a few clicks. The
program can be configured to use specific applications or commands to open
different types of files. The Viewer Edition is free for browsing your
project.

[060] - VTD-XML 1.9
by jimmy Zhang (http://freshmeat.net/users/jzhang2005/)
Sun, Dec 10th 2006 19:24
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: VTD-XML is a next generation XML parser that goes beyond DOM and
SAX in terms of performance, memory, and ease of use. Currently, it only
supports built-in entity references (" &s; ' > <). Other features
include XML indexing (due to inherent persistence of VTD) and incremental
updating. Its memory usage is typically between 1.3 to 1.5 times the size
of the XML document.
Changes: This release address performance aspect of XPath implementation.
It also contains some minor bugfixes. The Java release also includes a JAR
file for class libraries.

[061] - wzdftpd 0.8.1
by pollux (http://freshmeat.net/users/p0l1uX/)
Sun, Dec 10th 2006 16:05
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
About: wzdftpd is a modular and portable FTP server, which supports SSL,
IPv6, multithreading, and external scripts. It uses Unix-like permissions
and ACLs, with virtual users and groups. It also supports bandwith
limitation (per user, per group, or globally), group administrators, and
per command authorization.
Changes: The most important change is the migration to cmake (although it
is not mandatory; autoconf is still supported). Some bugs were fixed to
avoid problems with data connection on timeout, or when a file is
overwritten by a smaller one. This release adds support for BNC (using
IDNT) and events WIPE and PREWIPE.

[063] - XML_PullParser 1.3.2
by Myron Turner (http://freshmeat.net/users/turnermm03/)
Sun, Dec 10th 2006 11:35
Text Processing :: Markup
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
About: XML_PullParser moves the API of the PHP XML facility from an
event-based model to a token-based model. Instead of processing data as it
is passed from the parser to callbacks, a script using PullParser requests
"tokens" from XML_PullParser_getToken() and a number of helper functions.
Tokens are arrays representing XML structures, which become available in
the order in which they appear in the document being parsed. Methods are
provided both to get tokens and to extract their data.
Changes: This release fixes a bug in XML_PullParser_getText, and enhances
its functionality with the addition of a new parameter that enables more
control over return values when this function is passed an array or
tokenized array to be searched for data. Its behavior should now be fully
consistent with the extensively updated documentation for the method.

[064] - xonclock 0.0.8.4
by cyrill_grk (http://freshmeat.net/users/cyrill_grk/)
Sun, Dec 10th 2006 08:23
About: xonclock is very simple X on-screen analog clock.
Changes: The dependency on the Imlib2 library has been removed. Imlib2 was
using too much memory in working with the internal clock skin. This release
tries to handle clock images by own. The configure script has been cleaned
up.

[065] - Yana 4 PHP Framework 2.8.7 (Development)
by Tom (http://freshmeat.net/users/marcusson/)
Sun, Dec 10th 2006 16:07
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: The Yana Framework is a component framework for developing PHP
applications. It can be expanded with your own plugins (components). It
includes skin and template support, multiple languages (German and English
by default), mature administration functionality, multiple installation
profiles, user login and administration, a database API based on PEAR-DB
that also offers database schema support, and a GUI/code generator for
your own plugins. It also includes an easy to use query tool that
automatically maps database commands to a flat file if no database support
is available. Plugins provided with this software are a guestbook, an RSS
to HTML converter, and a search engine. Complete (German) documentation
is included.
Changes: This version introduces a new OO-style wrapper for PHP's image
functions. It is capable of generic file type handling and generic output
handling, and provides fall-backs for PHP 4. It performs a number of
useful transformations like sharpen, blur, or resize, and offers a number
of predefined brushes. Also included are a number of updates and a bugfix
for version 2.8.6, solving a problem with the length() function of the
File-DB driver.
