[001] - ADOdb Lite 1.40
by Panama Jack (http://freshmeat.net/users/panamajack/)
Sun, Dec 17th 2006 17:51
Database
Database :: Front-Ends
Internet
About: ADOdb Lite is a small, fast replacement for ADODB that uses 1/6th
of the memory and is up to 300% faster, while being compatible with a
subset of the most commonly used ADODB commands. It supports Frontbase,
MaxDB, MiniSql, MSSQL, MySQL, ODBC, PostgreSQL, SQLite, and Sybase.
Changes: This version adds support for the ADOdb Meta Functions though
the meta module. The meta functions that were required by the Data
Dictionary have been removed from the Data Dictionary module and placed
in the meta module. This will require adding the meta module to the
modules loaded by the ADOdb Connection object. There are several other
changes and fixes.

by Matthias Trute (http://freshmeat.net/users/mtrute/)
Sun, Dec 17th 2006 13:19
Software Development :: Embedded Systems
About: amforth is a distribution of Forth running on the AVR ATmega
microcontroller. Once put into flash, it needs only a serial connection to
the host computer. New words are compiled directly into flash, thus
extending the dictionary immediately. It is ans94 Forth oriented with some
minor exclusions and a few words from the extension word sets. It is
written in assembly language and Forth itself. The main development uses
ATmega8 and ATmega32 controllers; other ATmega controllers should work
with small adjustments.
Changes: This release adds interrupt handling with forth high level words
and basic multitasking support.

by unDEFER (http://freshmeat.net/users/undefer/)
Sun, Dec 17th 2006 07:33
System :: Filesystems
System :: Recovery Tools
About: anyfs-tools allows you to recover and convert filesystems while
using minimal extra disk space. Unlike other recovery tools, anyfs-tools
doesn't copy all the files found on other disks (or partitions), but only
saves information about the location of the file blocks to an external
inode table. After recovery, a user may mount the damaged filesystem with
anyfs and the external inode table and then interact with all recovered
files with any program.
Changes: Anyfs building with kernel versions 2.6.18 and up was fixed.

About: APFP (Arbitrary Precision Floating Point) is an Unicon class for
performing arbitrary precision floating point calculations. It also
includes a class for calculating with arbitrary precision complex numbers.
It requires unicon overloaded operators. It also contains a ureal class for
built-in reals. Both classes keep an estimate of the accumulated error.
Changes: This release trims data to the required length. This greatly
improves performance. You can switch between UREAL and APFP by changing
ap_config.icn. This release uses built in log near zero, because series
solution is too slow.

by srepmub (http://freshmeat.net/users/srepmub/)
Sun, Dec 17th 2006 05:44
Software Development :: Compilers
About: Shed Skin is an experimental Python-to-C++ compiler. It accepts
pure but implicitly statically typed Python programs and generates
optimized C++ code. This means that in combination with a C++ compiler, it
allows for translation of pure Python programs into highly efficient
machine language. For a set of 16 non-trivial test programs, measurements
show a typical speedup of 2-40 over Psyco, about 12 on average, and 2-220
over CPython, about 45 on average. Shed Skin also outputs annotated source
code.
Changes: frozenset was added. time.sleep now works on Win32.
Constant-string expressions and __doc__ attributes are made into nice C++
comments. A --nowrap optimization option was added to ss.py (which
disables checking for negative indices). Several minor bugs reported by
users of 0.0.15 were fixed.

by Niall Gallagher (http://freshmeat.net/users/niallg/)
Sun, Dec 17th 2006 17:50
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
About: Simple is an XML serialization framework for Java. Its goal is to
provide an XML framework that enables rapid development of XML
configuration and communication systems. This framework aids the
development of XML systems with minimal effort and reduced errors. The
framework borrows ideas and concepts from existing XML tools such as C#
XML serialization and other proprietary frameworks, and combines those
ideas resulting in a simple yet extremely powerful tool for using and
manipulating XML.
Changes: This release enhances the serializer with generics so that
casting is not needed when deserializing objects, and enhances the
deserialization process to ensure mapping is case-insensitive.
Alterations have been made to improve the deserialization and
serialization performance.

[068] - Slackware Interactive Boot Scripts 11.0.1
by SysDev (http://freshmeat.net/users/SysDev/)
Sun, Dec 17th 2006 23:04
System
System :: Boot
System :: Installation/Setup
About: slakbootIBS (Slackware Interactive Boot Scripts) is an enhanced set
of replacement boot scripts for the Slackware Linux distribution. It
includes a set of control and dispatch tools for configuring and booting
with colorized interactive scripts. The new boot process allows the
operator to select or skip start-up components in realtime. It facilitates
debugging of startup problems and allows operators to maintain a common
baseline to support several local configurations or multiple servers with
a single set of scripts.
Changes: A sendmail support for sasl authentication server was added. A
bug was fixed in rc.inet1 where a restart of syslogd could leak out a
terminate message, disrupting the screen. The rc.udev script was upgraded
to conform to the IBS screen display format. Full paths were added to rc.6
script binaries, so you can still shutdown safely in a case where the
environment has been trashed or sabotaged. rc.mysql was upgraded with
better status and error message formatting. The script is now smart enough
to look for either safe_mysqld or mysqld_safe startup scripts.

[072] - System Configuration Collector 1.7.6 (Stable)
by Siem Korteweg (http://freshmeat.net/users/siem/)
Sun, Dec 17th 2006 13:17
System :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration
Utilities
About: System Configuration Collector (SCC) is yet another configuration
collector. It consists of a client and a server part. The client collects
configuration data in a structured snapshot, compares the new snapshot
with the previous one, and adds differences to a logbook. Then the
snapshot and the logbook are converted to HTML for local inspection.
Optionally, the data can be sent to a system running the server software.
On the server, summaries of the data are generated, and search/compare
operations on the snapshots and logbooks are available via a Web
interface.
Changes: Many extensions of collected configuration data. Uses the correct
version of tail for Sun. A correction to avoid a crash of gawk due to
double free. All network routing data is (optionally) variable to avoid
many changes due to ICMP redirects. Records LVM2 and EVMS related data.

[073] - Systems of Ordinary Differential Equations 05
by Dennis Darland (http://freshmeat.net/users/djdarland/)
Sun, Dec 17th 2006 13:09
About: USODE uses long Taylor series to solve systems of ordinary
differential equations. It generates code to solve the equations in
Unicon. Using the Taylor series, estimates are made of the location and
order of poles. An effort is made to adjust H to control the error. It has
worked well in testing, but needs more testing as there are so many
possibilities. To solve STIFF equations, MAX_TERMS may be set.
Differentiation done automatically.
Changes: This release uses a greatly improved APFP class. There is also
debugging for higher order diffs. The performance of APFP has been greatly
improved.

[074] - Template Lite 2.00
by Panama Jack (http://freshmeat.net/users/panamajack/)
Sun, Dec 17th 2006 17:52
Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: Template Lite is a very fast and small HTML template engine that
was originally created as a smaller replacement for Smarty and known as
Smarty Light. For the most part, it is a drop in replacement for Smarty
but uses around half of the memory and is considerably faster and far less
CPU intensive when compiling and displaying templates.
Changes: This release has a large number of changes to the core code to
make the system more modular. Many compiler functions are now modules
that are loaded only if needed by a template. This greatly reduces the
over all overhead by a considerable amount if you create a standard
template (174k used by the compiler).

by Luke Mewburn (http://freshmeat.net/users/lukem/)
Sun, Dec 17th 2006 21:25
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
About: tnftpd is a port of the NetBSD FTP server to other systems. It
offers many enhancements over the traditional BSD ftpd, including
per-class configuration directives via ftpd.conf(5), RFC 2389 and
draft-ietf-ftpext-mlst-11 support, IPv6, transfer rate throttling, and
more. tnftpd was formerly known as lukemftpd, and earlier versions are
present in Mac OS X 10.2 (as ftpd) and FreeBSD 5.0 (as lukemftpd).
Changes: A buffer overflow in the local version of glob(3) has been fixed.
The option -D has been added to run as a stand-alone daemon. The
ftpd.conf(5) options hidesymlinks and recvbufsize have been added. This
release enforces account expiration, and supports shadow password aging
where appropriate. It returns 450 instead of 550 upon NLST errors. There
are portability fixes and improvements.

[077] - Tor 0.1.1.26
by Martin Balvers (http://freshmeat.net/users/nosferatu/)
Sun, Dec 17th 2006 05:47
Communications
Internet
Internet :: Proxy Servers
About: Tor is a network of virtual tunnels that allows people and groups
to improve their privacy and security on the Internet. It also enables
software developers to create new communication tools with built-in
privacy features. It provides the foundation for a range of applications
that allow organizations and individuals to share information over
public networks without compromising their privacy. Individuals can use
it to keep remote Websites from tracking them and their family members.
They can also use it to connect to resources such as news sites or
instant messaging services that are blocked by their local Internet
service providers (ISPs).
Changes: This version fixes a serious privacy bug for people who use the
HttpProxyAuthenticator config option: Tor would send your proxy auth
directly to the directory server when you're tunnelling directory requests
through Tor. Specifically, this happens when publishing or accessing hidden
services, or when you have set FascistFirewall or ReachableAddresses and
you're accessing a directory server that's not reachable directly.

Changes: This release has many minor bugfixes, touching almost every part
of the code, documentation, and XML schema. Signals sent at just the right
moment no longer interrupt system calls, local IPv6 addresses now contain
their scope on all platforms, and the XML schema received its fair share
of cleanups and consistency improvements. The awkward <link_status/>
