[001] - Advanced Bash Scripting Guide 4.2 (Stable)
  by M. Leo Cooper (http://freshmeat.net/users/thegrendel/)
  Wed, Dec 20th 2006 18:46

Education
Software Development :: Documentation
System :: Systems Administration

About: The Advanced Bash Scripting Guide is both a reference and a
tutorial on shell scripting. This comprehensive book (the equivalent of
about 700 print pages) covers almost every aspect of shell scripting. It
contains over 300 profusely commented illustrative examples, and a number
of tables. Not just a shell scripting tutorial, this book also provides an
introduction to basic programming techniques, such as sorting and
recursion. It is well suited for either individual study or classroom use.
It covers Bash version 3+.

Changes: This is a fairly important update. The too-wide pages have
finally been reformatted for printing and better display on the PDF
version. Quite a bit of new material has been added, including a new
example script. There are some bugfixes.

Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP

About: AlphaMail is a mod_perl webmail system with a C++ middleware
component that is intended to make the system highly scalable. It supports
many Unix variants with any RFC-compliant IMAP server (including UW, Cyrus,
and Dovecot).

Changes: This release fixes what seems to be the last major stability bug
in the cache.

management system. It features bookmark friendly URLs, easy search with
browsing by category, article submission, and a professional and
attractive interface. It is intended to be used to store, manage, and
update article content for a knowledge base, but is very customizable and
enables any number of creative uses.

Changes: This release includes some minor style changes for the kb admin
interface, a fixed header, and corrected author authentication.

[004] - Apache Ant 1.7.0 (Stable)
  by Antoine Levy-Lambert (http://freshmeat.net/users/AntoineLL/)
  Wed, Dec 20th 2006 04:17

Software Development :: Build Tools

About: Ant is a Java based build tool, similar to make, but with better
support for the cross platform issues involved with developing Java
applications. Ant is the build tool of choice for all Java projects at
Apache and many other Open Source Java projects.

Changes: A resource framework was introduced. Some of the core ant tasks
such as copy are now able to process not only file system resources but
also zip entries, tar entries, and paths. Resource collections group
resources, and can be further combined with operators such as union and
intersection. This version starts outsourcing of optional tasks to
Antlibs. The .NET antlib replaces the .NET optional tasks. Support for the
version control system Subversion is also provided as an antlib. A large
number of bugs were fixed. Some initial support for Java6 features was
added.

[005] - appctl 1.11
  by Rainer Meier (http://freshmeat.net/users/skybeam/)
  Wed, Dec 20th 2006 13:15

System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
System :: Software Distribution
Utilities

About: Appctl is a framework for virtually any server software. It
provides a central script called "ctl" which allows you to start, stop,
restart, maintain, or query the current status of an application. It is
meant as a completely generic replacement for application-specific
startup/stop scripts. The project also supplies generic monitoring scripts
for clusters, which can dramatically decrease clustering costs.

Changes: The recently introduced feature to allow custom PIDFILE location
specification was not working properly when multiple handlers were
specified in ctlenv. All PIDs were redirected to the PID file of the first
handler, which caused messages about invalid PIDs for this handler. Since
no PID files were written for other handlers, they were treated as
handlers without PID files (PIDLESS_MODE). In most cases this was not
creating any problems except for the ugly warnings about wrong PIDs.

[007] - AutoAbacus 1.0
  by Nathan Funk (http://freshmeat.net/users/nathanfunk/)
  Wed, Dec 20th 2006 03:59

Office/Business :: Financial :: Accounting
Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: AutoAbacus is a powerful equation solving library that finds
solutions to equation sets. Equations are passed to AutoAbacus as text,
and the program attempts to find a solution that satisfies all
constraints. The equations can be linear or polynomial, and can include
arbitrary functions. By profiling the types of equations in the system and
their dependencies on each other, AutoAbacus uses appropriate solution
methods to solve individual subsets of equations. Applications range from
use in a business rules engine to solving engineering equation systems.

[008] - AXIGEN 2.0.3
  by Gecad Technologies (http://freshmeat.net/users/GecadTechnologies/)
  Wed, Dec 20th 2006 07:46

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents
Communications :: Email :: Mailing List Servers

About: AXIGEN is a fast, reliable and secure mail server with an open
architecture. It is designed for easy management and allows full control
of the email traffic from a central Web/CLI admin module. AXIGEN provides
ESMTP, IMAP, and POP3 services and has been tested with standard mail
clients. A special Webmail module enables email access and delivery from
Web browsers. During the evaluation period, users are provided with full
technical support.

Changes: Mailbox quota limits have been increased from 1 GB to 4 TB.
Domain migration uses the username input received when a user logs to the
IMAP server instead of changing it to "usernamedomain" format. This
prevents possible login errors with IMAP servers. Delivery failures when
relaying emails were fixed.

done using OpenGL, and direct rendering is recommended. The game is
focused on multiplayer over LAN. An AI is also present, but is not very
strong. World simulation is done via ODE, and sound is done using OpenAL
and SDL_mixer. The game has currently 6 maps, 5 tanks, and 4 weapons.

Changes: Many bugs were were caught, and many minor unfinished things were
fixed. New bonuses and new maps were added. Some documentation for the
project is provided for users and developers. The AI is now weaker.

  Wed, Dec 20th 2006 15:35

Communications :: Internet Phone
Communications :: Telephony
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio

About: Bayonne is the telephony server of the GNU project. It offers a
script-driven threaded multi-line state event telephony service on

also features "TGI" for making Perl applications "telephony aware". It may
be used to build telephony-based system administration, home automation,
automated attendant, v-commerce, and voice messaging systems.

Changes: This release completes the Bayonne XMLRPC service and adds a Unix
local socket XMLRPC transport (for those not wishing to expose Bayonne
internal API access over a network) and more user identity and destination
dialing enhancements.

  by Samuel Chen (http://freshmeat.net/users/billhen/)
  Wed, Dec 20th 2006 11:19

Communications :: Email
Database :: Front-Ends
Information Management

About: Bugzero is a Web-based bug tracking, defect tracking, issue
tracking, and change management system used in a distributed team
environment to track software bugs, hardware defects, test cases, or any
other issues. It can also be used equally well as a helpdesk customer
support, trouble ticketing, or email management system to collect and
manage customer feedbacks, incidents, requests, and issues. It is easy to
use, but still flexible and adaptive, and can be configured to fit to your
organization's unique business process and workflow.

Changes: A project can now be configured based on the type, and a project
field can be linked to a record in a different project. For instance, you
can set up a customer support project with a contact address field that
linked to a Contact project. Many other improvements were made.

  Wed, Dec 20th 2006 04:13

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Multimedia :: Graphics
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: class.upload.php manages file uploads for you. It manages the
uploaded file and allows you to do whatever you want with the file as many
times as you want. If the file is an image, you can convert and resize it,
rotate it, and crop it in many ways. You can also add borders, frames,

effect filters. Security features and file management functions are
provided. The class can also work on local files, which is useful for
batch processing images online, and can circumvent open_basedir
restrictions.

Changes: This version fixes all the bugs up to date, and brings in new
features. It is now possible to create "Web 2.0" reflections on your
uploaded pictures. A lot more control has been added to the text features,
such as line breaks. It is now possible to use external fonts. The class is
also fully able to circumvent open_basedir restrictions.

[013] - Cobbler 0.3.5
  by Michael DeHaan (http://freshmeat.net/users/mpdehaan/)
  Wed, Dec 20th 2006 17:02

Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions
System :: Software Distribution Tools

About: Cobbler is a provisioning application that enables administrators
to rapidly set up network boot server (kickstart) environments for
provisioning PXE, installing Linux virtual images, and re-provisioning
existing machines over SSH. The application is designed for managing the
provisioning of thousands of machines or only a few. Extensive
documentation is provided in the accompanying man pages. Cobbler is easy
to use and has an accompanying Python API. It supports RHEL4+, Fedora 5+,
and derivative distributions.

Changes: This release can manage mirroring of yum repositories in addition
to kickstart trees. Profiles that reference repositories can automatically
template in code that configures the repositories for use in Anaconda
(kickstart) and in the installed system. This allows cobbler to be a
complete provisioning and update control point for machines in an
organization that do not want to depend on outside network traffic. There
are several bugfixes.

[014] - DataBrowser 3.4.3
  by Paul Bemowski (http://freshmeat.net/users/superbemo/)
  Wed, Dec 20th 2006 16:55

Database
Database :: Front-Ends

About: The DataBrowser is a Java-based tool for browsing virtually any
database. It has been tested with Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL/Postgres,
MySQL, DB2, and MS Access (among some others). It requires a Java 2 runtime
environment. The DataBrowser allows you to execute dynamic SQL, import and
export data, view the schema in a treeview, and view query results in a
table view.

Changes: This release fixes a (potentially huge) performance problem with
making calls to the DatabaseMetaData.getIndexInfo() call. By making this
call 'approximate', it prevents a server side ANALYZE and really snaps
things up.

[031] - HTML Forms generation and validation 2006.12.20
  by Manuel Lemos (http://freshmeat.net/users/mlemos/)
  Wed, Dec 20th 2006 06:57

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: HTML Forms generation and validation is a PHP class that generates
HTML forms supporting many built-in validation types on server and client
sides. It prevents security attacks by discarding spoofed values, has
multiple submit protection, outputs HTML for fields displayed as fully
accessible or in read-only mode, and has field value filtering and
reformatting. It can be extended with custom control plug-ins. AJAX based
form submission, upload monitor progress bar, auto-complete text input,
automatic layout renderer, calendar date, CAPTCHA, Google Maps world
location selection, linked select, and animation effects plug-ins are
available.

Changes: A new plug-in was added to monitor the progress of upload of
forms with large files. This plug-in uses AJAX to simultaneously retrieve
upload progress statistics from the server. It can update the form page
with a progress bar, along with statistics of the amount of uploaded data,
upload speed, and remaining time. A new function was also added to the
class to connect the form to any input such that when a form event occurs,
it triggers actions in the context of the connected input like giving the
input focus or enabling or disabling the input.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers

About: KLone is a fully-featured, multi-platform framework which allows
dynamic Web pages to be written in C/C++ (with the usual <% code %>
style). The pages can then be embedded (in compressed and/or encrypted
form) into a single executable that also contains KLone's high-performance
HTTP/S server. Given its nature, it can be linked natively to any C/C++
library (database, XML, graphics, etc.), without an intermediate layer,
and it is especially suited for low-resource (embedded) systems.

Changes: A newline is always added after <%! %> C translated code. Posted
data can have content-length equal to zero. Unmatched single or double
quotes in kl1 blocks no longer cause compilation errors. SA_RESTART is
used for all signal handlers to avoid EINTR when calling syscalls from
within .kl1 pages. More console messages are printed on startup errors.

  Wed, Dec 20th 2006 04:12

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Filesystems

About: libferris is a virtual filesystem that exposes hierarchical data of
all kinds through a common C++ interface. Access to data is performed using
C++ IOStreams and Extended Attributes (EA) can be attached to each file or
directory to present metadata. Ferris uses a plugin API to read various
data sources and expose them as filesystems and to generate interesting
EA. Current implementations include native (kernel disk IO with fam), XML
(mount an XML file as a filesystem), DB4, xmldb, Evolution, Firefox,
Emacs, LDAP, HTTP, FTP, eet, sockets, RDF/XML, RDF/bdb, and mbox. EA
generators include image, audio, and animation decoders.

Changes: The command line clients (ferrisls, ferriscp, ferrismv, ferrisrm,
ftouch, and fcat) can now perform globbing. This allows globbing to be
performed on URLs that only apply to libferris, like postgresql://. EAs
such as md5 now give sane results when read on devices like /dev/zero. The
mimetype-from-content EA now handles special files. The getURL() code was
updated for some xsltfs:// contexts. Support for viewing Formal Concept
Analysis in Relation Browser was updated. Work was started on

  Wed, Dec 20th 2006 17:00

Communications :: Ham Radio
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Capture/Recording

About: PicoStreamer is a complete server for live audio/video streaming.
It can stream MP3, AAC, and video live using Flash FLV. It does not
require any Flash server. It only needs a Web server with Perl and PHP. It
requires neither expensive dedicated servers nor compilation on the target
machine. A source client (for Win32) is included. A management/playing
framework written in PHP makes PicoStreamer simple to use. The PicoIcy
component acts as a local shoutcast server emulator, so you can use your
preferred shoutcast source client to stream or stream Flash format
directly from the Web.

Changes: This release adds live Flash audio/video streaming support, a
Flash encoder, a Flash player for MP3s, Brasilian (PT) language support, a
dynamic playlist chooser, and content-length managing. PicoIcy is now in
the tray bar. List blocking on weird chars has been fixed. PHP
ctype_digits dependence has been removed. Perl html::entitites dependence
has been removed. Many PicoIcy bugs have been fixed.

Security
System :: Monitoring

About: Prelude-Manager is a high-availability server which collects and
normalizes information from distributed Prelude-IDS sensors and stores
them in a database (or any kind of user-provided media). It also provide
the ability to relay received events to one or several other
prelude-manager servers and allows users to filter received events so they
can provide specific actions for specific events. Support for filtering
plugins allows users to hook into different places in the Manager to
define custom criteria for alert relaying and logging.

Changes: A startup problem was fixed. This problem occurred on systems
with different addresses of different families, and caused the addresses
to be mapped to the same IP. A fix was made for systems using the GnuLib
poll replacement modules. The module was broken when used in conjunction
with server socket. Various portability fixes were made, so this release
should compile and run on Mac OS X out of the box.

  Wed, Dec 20th 2006 04:09

Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: StreamCruncher is an Event Processor. It supports a language based
on SQL which allows you to define "Event Processing" constructs like
Sliding Windows, Time Based Windows, Partitions, and Aggregates. Such
constructs allow for the specification of boundaries (some are time
sensitive) on a Stream of Events that SQL does not provide. Queries can be
written using this language, which in turn can be used to monitor streams
of incoming events. It also provides a feature similar to materialized
views. Joins and sub-queries are also supported to allow event
co-relation. A database is used underneath to do the heavy lifting.

Changes: JavaDocs were added for test cases. A complex co-related
sub-query test case was added. An SLA alert use case was added.

  by Stunnix (http://freshmeat.net/users/stunnix/)
  Wed, Dec 20th 2006 12:06

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers

About: Stunnix Perl Web Server is an advanced Web server developed for
writing browser-based applications and database-driven catalogues or
presentations that reside on CDROM or DVD, internally implemented as
Perl-driven or PHP-driven Web sites that store data in a database also
located on CDROM. It produces a single CD that works on Windows, Mac OS X,
and Linux/x86, without requiring any additional software on the user's
computer. All an author needs to do to build a cross-platform
browser-based application or CDROM is to copy scripts to their proper
directories. HTML::Mason and mod_perl-like execution modes are supported
for Perl-driven Web sites.

Changes: Ejection of tray of media containing a Web site is not performed
if it's not a CD or DVD on Mac OS X. This version fixes showing a splash
screen at startup on Mac OS X. Now CDBuilder (a GUI to create CDs or DVDs
with a Web server on them) can import MySQL database data from .sql files.
Icons on the CD are layed out wisely in Finder now.

  Wed, Dec 20th 2006 17:32

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Documentation

About: Synopsis is a multi-language source code introspection tool that
provides a variety of representations for the parsed code to enable
further processing such as documentation extraction, reverse engineering,
and source-to-source translation. It provides a framework of C++ and
Python APIs to access these representations and allows Processor objects
to be defined and composed into processing pipelines, making this
framework very flexible and extensible.

Changes: Support for C99 parsing has been greatly enhanced. Support for
Python code cross-referencing has been added. The processing of
source-embedded documentation has been greatly enhanced. As a result, this
release supports multiple markup formats, such as Javadoc, and
ReStructuredText. The latter requires python-docutils to be installed.
Synopsis no longer depends on an external omniidl tool, as its IDL parser
is now self-contained. The SXR server has been solidified and optimized.
The HTML formatter has been greatly enhanced.

and RFC2396 URI format. Such ASCII equivalents are useful for entering
Unicode in program source or in programs that are not 8-bit safe, and for
testing and debugging. Several options allow Unicode to be converted to
approximately equivalent ASCII, e.g. by stripping diacritics. An optional
GUI is provided.

Changes: Thirty-eight characters were added to the set from which
uni2ascii -d strips diacritics. The mapping for one character was
corrected.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
System :: Networking

About: XLB is an HTTP load balancer. It features connection management
where requests are parsed and assigned to a persistent connection to the
back-end server. This reduces back-end server load by causing fewer forks,
less memory use, and lower CPU consumption. It can decode SSL requests,
which is useful if you have an SSL accelerator board. Scripting allows
requests to be routed to specific pools or headers modified based on the
URL, filename, source IP, and other fields. A fast in-memory cache is
included .
