[001] - abcm2ps 5.2.2 (Development)
  by Guido Gonzato (http://freshmeat.net/users/goccia/)
  Thu, Dec 21st 2006 04:57

Printing

About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.

Changes: PostScript files can now be inserted as format files (with '-F'
or %%format). The %%staffnonote command was added. Several fixes and a
change of syntax for the %%tablature command were also made.

[002] - Advanced Website Creator 1.4.1
  by Vesselin Atanasov (http://freshmeat.net/users/vesselin/)
  Thu, Dec 21st 2006 22:32

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: Advanced Website Creator is a Web development environment. Created
websites use an MVC framework written in PHP 5 and a simple database
abstraction layer. At present the database layer supports MySQL and
PostgreSQL as backends. All PHP classes are auto-loaded, so there is no
need to include() or require() files manually. Search engine friendly URLs
are supported via mod_rewrite.

Changes: CSS styles, JavaScript files, data files, action aliases, and
redirects have been replaced with support for generic URLs. When creating
a redirect URL, its type (permanent/temporary) can be specified. Library
JavaScript functions are no longer added to the project by default.
Instead they are kept in a separate package that can be explicitly
imported into the project. Documentation has been enhanced. A bug that
prevented some of the pages from working correctly in Internet Explorer
was fixed. A bug that prevented projects from compiling was fixed. Other
small bugs were fixed.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Object Brokering

About: Channel is a C++ template framework for distributed message passing
and event dispatching. Its major components (message IDs, routing
algorithms...) are highly configurable as template parameters. As a
namespace shared by peer threads, channels support publish/subscribe scope
control, message filtering, and translation.

Changes: This release introduced associative lookup-based message passing.
Regexp based name-matching allows applications to use patterns such as
".*ball.*" to subscribe to messages. Linda-style tuple associative lookup
lets applications use wildcard, wildcard, wildcard, "Math Dept" to
subscribe to messages for all persons in the math department. The design
document was updated, with sections added to clarify class concepts and to
explain how to extend the framework by adding new id_type, id_trait, and
dispatchers.

  by Robin Bowes (http://freshmeat.net/users/robinbowes/)
  Thu, Dec 21st 2006 05:33

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Conversion

About: flac2mp3 is a Perl script to convert FLAC files to MP3 format. It
will process an entire directory tree and put the MP3 files in a similar
structure. Tags are converted where possible. It will only process a file
if the flac file is newer than the MP3 file or if the tags have changed.
If just the tags have changed then just the tags are processed, i.e. the
file does not have to be transcoded again. flac2mp3 comes bundled with all
the non-standard Perl modules required to run. It has been tested on Fedora
Core 4 with Perl v5.8.6 and on Windows XP with ActiveState Perl v5.8.7.

Changes: flac and lame are run with fork and exec, which fixes any shell
quoting issues. Support for more tags was added. Various small bugs were
fixed.

Communications :: Fax

About: HylaFAX is a fax and paging system for Unix. It supports sending
facsimile, receiving facsimile, polled retrieval of facsimile, transparent
shared data use of the modem and sending alpha-numeric pages. The software
is structured around a client-server architecture. Fax modems may reside
on a single machine on a network and clients can submit outbound jobs from
any machine that can communicate with the machine on which the modems
reside. An access control mechanism is included to control which users on
which machines may access a server.

Changes: An unspecified external number is prevented from causing the
first number in a job group from being used with other jobs.
LocalIdentifier in Class 2 is padded to keep the modem from filling the
void with garbage. The wait time for AT+FCLASS=? response was increased.
The largely dysfunctional PAM support was fixed. The JobControl
application of DesiredDF was fixed and improved. Shell command quoting was

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: PHPLiveX is a class that can be used to call PHP functions from
Javascript in Web pages using AJAX. It generates Javascript code that
implements functions with the same names and function arguments as a given
list of existing PHP functions. When the generated Javascript functions are
called, they start AJAX requests to invoke the respective PHP functions on
the server.

Changes: The response text of an AJAX request now correctly contains
"</phplivex>" text. If the response of an AJAX request contains JavaScript
code, the browser now correctly identifies it as JavaScript. The JavaScript
code was made object-oriented, and JavaScript bugs were fixed. The HTTP
methods ("GET" and "POST") of an AJAX request can be chosen now. Class
functions can be exported now. This version of the library needs PHP 5

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search

About: Pinot is a D-Bus service that crawls, indexes your documents, and
monitors them for changes. It is also a GTK-based user interface that
enables you to query the index built by the service or your favorite Web
engine, and display and analyze the results. It makes full use of advanced
indexing and search facilities offered by Xapian, features language
detection, dynamic document summaries, easy labelling of documents, and
internal support for common file types. The D-Bus interface allows easy
integration with other applications.

Changes: Various problems were fixed on SMP systems, client DBus code,
parsing of applications .desktop files, and a possible document loss when
indexing very long capitalized terms. Assumptions about a UTF-8 locale
were corrected. The daemon process runs with a low priority by default,
uses less memory for events and documents loading, and exits cleanly when
signaled while crawling. DBus messages are now handled by separate
threads. The UI was translated to Dutch and Swedish. First-time
configuration is now easier and a filter on file extension was added.

  Thu, Dec 21st 2006 05:28

About: sl is a yet another generic linked list library. Instead of
container nodes with pointers to your data, it uses a pointer to the next
item directly in the data structure you want to create lists (or stacks)
of. In addition to significant memory savings, this allows for very fast
push and pop operations since there is no need to allocate or free memory
for the container nodes. It also means that a push can't fail because
memory couldn't be allocated for the container node.

Changes: A slight documentation improvement was made. The "debian"
directory was removed since sl has been packaged for Debian and so that
directory is maintained by the Debian developers. Some internal build
refactoring was done.

[056] - the breve simulation environment 2.5
  by jklein (http://freshmeat.net/users/jklein/)
  Thu, Dec 21st 2006 06:02

Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence

About: breve is a 3D simulation environment designed for the simulation of
decentralized systems and artificial life. While the concept is similar to
existing packages such as Swarm and StarLogo, the implementation, which
simulates both continuous time and continuous 3D space, is quite
different. It also includes an experimental physics engine, allowing the
user to implement real-time physical simulations. Simulations are written
in a simple object-oriented language called "steve". Users define an
agent's behavior by specifying how the agent interacts with the world at
each timestep and how the agent interacts when it collides with other
agents. The ultimate goal of the system is to allow decentralized
simulations to be implemented quickly and easily while providing a
sophisticated set of object classes and libraries to facilitate the
construction of advanced artificial life simulations.

information. Each node of the tree can contain several defined fields,
forming a mini-database. The format of each node can be defined, and the
output can be shown on the screen, printed, or exported to HTML. The tree
structure is navigated and edited in the left pane of the window, while
various views of the child data are shown and editable in the right pane.
The data is stored in XML text files. TreeLine is based on the PyQt
library.

Changes: A built-in editor for keyboard shortcuts and a dialog to
customize tool bar commands were added. Title searches and the restoring
of node states and splitter sizes were ported from the stable branch.
There were also some minor bugfixes.

Software Development
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Debuggers

About: Ultimate++ is a cross-platform C++ rapid application development
suite. It includes set of libraries (for things like GUI and SQL) and an
integrated development environment. Rapid development is achieved by smart
and aggressive use of C++ rather than through fancy code generators. In
this respect, U++ competes with popular scripting languages while
preserving C/C++ runtime characteristics. Its integrated development
environment, TheIDE, introduces modular conception to C++ programming, and
can be used to develop non-U++ applications.
