Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion
Printing

About: Apache XML Graphics Commons is a library that consists of several
reusable components used by Apache Batik and Apache FOP. Many of these
components can easily be used separately outside the domains of SVG and
XSL-FO. You will find components such as a PDF library, an RTF library,
Graphics2D implementations that let you generate PDF and PostScript files,
and much more.

Changes: The ImageWriter abstraction now supports the writing of
multi-page formats like TIFF. This uses the Image I/O API. A default
implementation was provided for AbstractGraphics2D.drawText(ACI, float,
float) so that PSGraphics2D supports painting of text using the
AttributedCharacterIterator. Various fixes and improvements were made in
the ImageWriter abstraction. A problem where the generation of the
PostScript setdash command was assuming that only integer values can be
used was fixed.

[010] - Construct 2.00 RC1

  Sat, Dec 23rd 2006 08:46

Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules
System :: Networking
System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: Construct is a Python library for declaratively defined data
structures, called "constructs". These constructs can both parse data into
an object and build an object into data. Constructs handle fields of either
byte or bit granularity, structs, unions, sequences, repeaters, adapters,
validators, switching, pointers, on-demand (lazy) parsing, and many more.
The library defines a large number of primitive constructs, as well a
large inventory of file formats and network protocols.

Changes: Construct2 is a rewrite of the library, making it faster and much
slimmer. The library is now byte-oriented instead of bit-oriented, so it
uses eight times less memory. It can parse files directly from the disk.
Meta constructs now use lambda instead of eval. Textual processing to some
extent (context free grammar) was added. On-demand parsing was added.
Thorough unit tests were added. A full tutorial was written.

[028] - ncurses 5.6
  by T.E.Dickey (http://freshmeat.net/users/tedickey/)
  Sat, Dec 23rd 2006 12:32

Software Development :: Libraries

About: The ncurses (new curses) library is a freeware emulation of System
V Release 4.0 curses. It uses terminfo format, supports pads and color and
multiple highlights and forms characters and function-key mapping, and has
all the other SYSV-curses enhancements over BSD curses. The distribution
includes the library and support utilities, including a terminfo compiler
tic, a decompiler infocmp, clear, tput, tset, and a termcap conversion
tool captoinfo. Full manual pages are provided for the library and tools.

Changes: Hashed-databases are supported for storing terminal descriptions.
Support for magic-cookies such as hpterm was improved. Support for rpath in
shared libraries was revised. Many bugfixes were made for memory leaks,
wide-character support, portability, and more.

[029] - nss-ldapd 0.1
  by Arthur (http://freshmeat.net/users/tiearthur/)
  Sat, Dec 23rd 2006 13:28

System :: Networking :: LDAP
System :: Systems Administration

About: nss-ldapd is a (glibc) NSS module for doing name lookups to an LDAP
server. This module allows retrieval of information about Unix accounts,
groups, hosts, and other information from an LDAP directory. It is a fork
from the nss_ldap module to do some architectural changes. This
implementation splits the functionality into this NSS part and a local
daemon to do the lookups. This works around a number of problems in the
original implementation.

Changes: This release should be mostly usable but has not undergone enough
testing yet to be used in production environments. A lot of code cleanups
were done and a lot of dead compatibility code has been removed (about 25%
of all code). This release drops support for non-Linux systems for now. The
build scripts were simplified, test code has been rewritten, and most
documentation has been rewritten.

[036] - Port Scan Attack Detector 2.0.2
  by Michael Rash (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelrash/)
  Sat, Dec 23rd 2006 09:30

System :: Networking :: Firewalls
System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: The Port Scan Attack Detector (psad) is a collection of three
system daemons that are designed to work with the Linux Netfilter
firewalling code to detect port scans and other suspect traffic. It
features a set of highly configurable danger thresholds (with sensible
defaults), verbose alert messages, email alerting, DShield reporting, and
automatic blocking of offending IP addresses. Psad incorporates many of
the packet signatures included in Snort to detect various kinds of
suspicious scans, and implements the same passive OS fingerprinting
algorithm used by p0f.

Changes: The ability to download the latest signatures from cipherdyne.org
in install.pl was added. The cd_rpmbuilder script was added to make it easy
to build RPMs out of CipherDyne projects by automatically downloading the
project .tar.gz and .spec files from http://www.cipherdyne.org/.
MIN_DANGER_LEVEL was added to allow all alerts and /var/log/psad/IP
tracking to be disabled unless an attacker reaches at least this danger
level. A bug in which elements of the connected_subnets_cidr array were
not properly included was fixed. A bug was fixed so that more than
TOP_IP_LOG_THRESHOLD IP addresses are not printed in the top attackers
section.

[037] - Really Simple CalDAV Store 0.6.0
  by karora (http://freshmeat.net/users/karora/)
  Sat, Dec 23rd 2006 23:03

Office/Business :: Scheduling

About: The Really Simple CalDAV Store is a server implementation of the
CalDAV protocol for storing calendaring resources (iCalendar format) on a
remote shared server. An increasing number of calendar clients support the
maintenance of shared remote calendars through CalDAV including Mozilla
Calendar (Sunbird/Lightning), Evolution, Mulberry, Chandler, and soon
Apple's iCal. The Really Simple CalDAV Store supports basic delegation of
read/write access among calendar users and multiple users or clients
reading and writing the same calendar entries over time.

Changes: The main focus for this release has been extending the compliance
of RSCDS. This release adds support for the LOCK, UNLOCK, and PROPPATCH
methods, a translation to Dutch, and new CSS for the admin pages. The
freebusy code is substantially improved, and the free-busy-query variant
of the REPORT method is also implemented.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: rest2web is a tool for automatically maintaining Web sites or parts
of Web sites. It integrates with docutils so that contents can be kept in
reStructured Text or HTML. It has a powerful templating and macro system
and can automatically generate index pages and navigation trails (like
sidebars and breadcrumbs). It generates static HTML and can generate
relative links, which means that sites can be viewed from the filesystem.
A "uservalues" system assists with creating sites in multiple languages.

Changes: Some extra debugging information was added to syntax errors in
the templates. odict and pathutils were fixed for Python 2.5
compatibility. Added the 'promote_headers' option to the config file. The
sortpages method was added to the sections. This sorts the pages in a
section (or all sections) alphabetically. You can also pass in a custom
sort function.
