[011] - GeoQO 0.2
  by Wes Hardaker (http://freshmeat.net/users/hardaker/)
  Sun, Dec 31st 2006 13:19

About: GeoQO is a waypoint, geocaching, and waymarking database. It is
extremely fast and offers a wide variety of utilities for manipulating
waypoints. Though designed for geocaching and waymarking, it should be
usable for any waypoint management. It is highly extensible; writing new
import, export, search, display, and other plugins is easy to do.

Changes: Many argument values to various plugins can now be passed without
the argument name if placed in the right order. A new modify plugin,
sortby, sorts caches by a field (also useful with the distance plugin). A
maximum/minimum lat/lon setting is supported for export KML density plots.
There is more "beginning" GUI support (use -d gui/list and -d gui/show for
examples or the screenshot Web page). This requires the (GTK 2 or Tk) and
QWizard Perl modules. There is better help output for available options,
and miscellaneous bugfixes.

System :: Boot
System :: Emulators
System :: Filesystems

About: GRUB for DOS is a rebuild of the GNU GRUB boot manager for DOS, and
can be run under real mode DOS. It also has many new features. It can be
booted through BOOT.INI of Windows (grldr) and kexec of Linux (grub.exe).

About: wrt54g-linux is a mini-distribution for the Linksys wrt54g
802.11b/g access point and router. It includes basic tools such as sh,
syslog, telnetd, httpd (with cgi-bin support), vi, snort, mount, insmod,
rmmod, top, grep, find, nfs modules, etc. The installation script runs in
about 20 seconds and installs strictly to the RAM disk. If you mess
anything up, simply reset the box. After installing the distribution
you'll be able to telnet in, add Web pages, change iptable rules, change
routing, configure snort, etc.

Changes: This release changes the install directory used when loading
executables on the box. This change should make the distribution work on
boxes where "/var" is read-only. The release works on a version 1 WRT54G
box running firmware version 4.00.7. It has also been reported to work on
other WRT54G variations, such the GS version of the box. It does not work
with WRT54G firmware 4.30.5, nor will it work with version 5 WRT54G boxes.

[037] - Port Scan Attack Detector 2.0.3
  by Michael Rash (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelrash/)
  Sun, Dec 31st 2006 13:08

System :: Networking :: Firewalls
System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: The Port Scan Attack Detector (psad) is a collection of three
system daemons that are designed to work with the Linux Netfilter
firewalling code to detect port scans and other suspect traffic. It
features a set of highly configurable danger thresholds (with sensible
defaults), verbose alert messages, email alerting, DShield reporting, and
automatic blocking of offending IP addresses. Psad incorporates many of
the packet signatures included in Snort to detect various kinds of
suspicious scans, and implements the same passive OS fingerprinting
algorithm used by p0f.

Changes: This release removes the Psad.pm Perl module and kmsgsd.pl and
psadwatchd.pl scripts. In the previous scheme, psad imported its config
with a function within Psad.pm, and this required that psad import the
Psad Perl module before reading its config. A consequence was that the
PSAD_LIBS_DIR var could not be specified usefully within the config file.
The ability to recursively resolve embedded variables from *.conf files
(with a limit of 20 resolution attempts) has been added.
IGNORE_KERNEL_TIMESTAMP has been added so that Linux distributions that
add a timestamp to all kernel messages (Ubuntu, for example) can be
ignored.

About: RPL/2 (Reverse Polish Lisp/2) is a langage derived from the RPL
made by Hewlett-Packard for its HP-28S. It has some extensions
(preprocessor, compilated libraries, new functions), a TeX output, and can
draw graphics.

Changes: The default [CF]FLAGS were modified due to a bug in gcc-sparc64.
CTRL+Z and CTRL+C signals now only perform actions on the main process.
Major bugs were fixed in multitasking capabilities. A minor bug was fixed
in SCLS. Variables are now written in the rpl-core file. NEG is modified
to return 0 instead -0 when its argument is a real or complex number. The
ROW+ intrinsic can now be used on an empty matrix without dimension error.
A major bug was fixed in the SUB intrinsic. It only occurs with lists when
it tries to return invalid elements like { } 1 2 sub. A major bug was
fixed in both ROW- and ROW+ intrinsics.

[045] - Universal Password Manager 1.5
  by Adrian Smith (http://freshmeat.net/users/adrianfsmith/)
  Sun, Dec 31st 2006 08:38

About: Universal Password Manager (UPM) allows you to store usernames,
passwords, URLs, etc. in an encrypted database protected by one master
password. Its three strongest features are simplicity (it provides a small
number of very strong features with no clutter), the ability to run
cross-platform, and database sharing. Rather than having many separate
databases (home, work, etc.), database sharing allows you store your
database at a remote location (password protected HTTP URL, for example)
and then have UPM automatically keep your local database in sync with the
remote database.

Changes: This release adds Czech and German translations. It adds username
and password fields to the HTTP proxy options. In the account information
dialog, the password is masked by default. To view it, untick a checkbox.
The French localisation has been removed (no French translator available).
There are a few small bugfixes here and there.

Changes: All non-API documentation HTML files were completely refactored.
Almost all non-internal API should have been documented. The configuration
and build scripts were improved. Initial support for XIM was started. New
functionalities and some simple dialog controls were added. Some file
refactoring, code compaction, optimizations, and bug and typo fixes were
done.

System :: Diagnostics
System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: XMLSysInfo (XSI) is an easy-to-use, secure, and comprehensive
system monitoring daemon that replies to network queries with XML-encoded
system information and statistics. This data can then be analyzed,
graphed, or otherwise presented by a front-end.

Changes: This release adds a fuzzer, i.e. noise generator, to XMLSysInfo.
It was used to find and fix several potential issues in the output, a
double-free() crash, and string sanitization problems. Several thousand
test cases have made it reasonably sure that XSI cannot produce invalid
output any more. A serious reliability issue has been fixed by ignoring
the SIGPIPE signal.
