[003] - BlockHosts 1.0.6
by Avinash Chopde (http://freshmeat.net/users/avinash1/)
Mon, Jan 1st 2007 07:14
System :: Networking
About: BlockHosts is a script to record how many times "sshd" or "proftpd"
is attacked. When a particular IP address exceeds a configured number of
failed login attempts, that IP address is added to /etc/hosts.allow, with
the deny option. A check is also made for stale entries in hosts.allow,
and these will then be deleted.
Changes: A logrotate.d script was added. The RPM package was restored.

Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors
About: Dbblast (Dust bunny blaster) is a utility that automatically
removes dust spots or "bunnies" from JPEG images taken with digital SLRs.
It can be run in batch mode from either a GUI or from the command line. It
supports user configurable blasting threshholds and JPEG image save
quality. All EXIF data is kept in the output JPEG images.
Changes: This release optimizes the for loops in the interpolation code.
The drawing code has been changed so that only the rectangle containing
the dust bunny is updated. This release automatically adds missing
filename extensions from the FileSave dialogs. Settings override from the
command line has been added. The way color range threshold is calculated
has been changed to make the results linear. User-selectable colors have
been added for the bunny marker circle. A bug has been fixed where dbblast
didn't exit when no .dbr file was loaded when running from the command
line.

[006] - DigiTemp 3.5.0
by Brian C. Lane (http://freshmeat.net/users/nexuscompu/)
Mon, Jan 1st 2007 13:42
Software Development
About: DigiTemp uses a simple serial port adapter to read temperatures
from the Dallas Semiconductor 1-Wire DS1820 digital temperature sensors.
It supports the DS9097-U adapter, supports DS2409 based 1-Wire hubs, and
features a 1-Wire walk that will display all devices on the LAN, not just
temperature sensors.
Changes: This release combines all the binary releases into a single
tar.gz, including Windows binaries compiled with Cygwin. It adds DS1923
Hygrochron support, and fixes some small bugs in the userial driver. A
lockdev bug was fixed (wasn't unlocking when done). A crash in
free_couplers() was fixed. There is better error reporting when trying to
access serial ports that don't exist. This release is compiled for Windows
with Cygwin. DS2490/9490 support still doesn't work well for the author,
although others have had success with it.

[008] - Dual DHCP DNS Server 4.0
by Achal Dhir (http://freshmeat.net/users/achaldhir/)
Mon, Jan 1st 2007 20:01
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
System :: Networking
About: Dual DHCP DNS Server is a combined DHCP/DNS server for small LANs.
Dynamic DHCP allocates/renews host addresses, while the caching DNS server
first tries resolving from DHCP-allotted names, then from cache, and only
then forwarding to external DNS servers. It has built in dynamic updates,
and also supports BOOTP PXE network booting and client specific options.
It is self-configuring, doesn't require the creation of zone files, and
uses little memory and CPU.
Changes: BootP support has been fixed. The Linux version's broadcast
interface has been fixed. The server into the multi-subnet, multi-range
era. Different subnets can be served using DCHP Relay Agent. A single host
can have multiple IPs, and a single IP can have multiple hosts. Zone-based
DNS Query routing [DNS-PROXY] has been introduced. Logging has been added.

Mon, Jan 1st 2007 05:10
Communications :: Email :: Address Book
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Communications :: File Sharing
About: eGroupWare is a Web-based groupware suite. It contains many
modules, including Calendar (personal calendar and group scheduling,
notifications and alarms), Mail (Email (IMAP and POP3) or FeLaMiMail (IMAP
only)), InfoLog (todos, notes, and phone calls linked to contacts (CRM)),
Contacts (an addressbook to store and share contact information), and
SiteMgr or JiNN (content management).
Changes: This is a bugfix and maintenance release. All current users are
recommended to update to it. The most important fix is PHP 5.2
compatibility. Because of a nasty bug in the PHP 5.2 mbstring extension,
you have to additionally switch display_errors to Off to be able to work
with eGroupWare when using multibyte charsets like UTF-8 (or in any case
where you have mbstring.func_overload greater than zero). Otherwise you
get tons of "empty haystack" warnings. Compatibility with the datetime
class of PHP 5.2 was fixed. Various fixes were made in the calendar.
PostgreSQL 8.1 compatibility was added.

by Christian Grothoff (http://freshmeat.net/users/grothoff/)
Mon, Jan 1st 2007 04:25
Communications :: File Sharing
Security :: Cryptography
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: GNUnet is a peer-to-peer framework with focus on providing
security. All peer-to-peer messages in the network are confidential and
authenticated. The framework provides a transport abstraction layer and
can currently encapsulate the network traffic in UDP (IPv4 and IPv6), TCP
(IPv4 and IPv6), HTTP, or SMTP messages. GNUnet supports accounting to
provide contributing nodes with better service. The primary service build
on top of the framework is anonymous file sharing.
Changes: This release fixes various minor bugs and adds some minor
features to GNUnet 0.7.1. GNUnet 0.7.1a now supports NAT traversal using
UPnP. Various details in the text-mode user interfaces have been improved.
Important bugs that were fixed include the TCP transport not working behind
NAT under certain circumstances, a rare assertion failure in the networking
code, and minor build problems on various systems.

[017] - HAproxy 1.3.4 (Development)
by Willy Tarreau (http://freshmeat.net/users/wtarreau/)
Mon, Jan 1st 2007 20:02
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
System :: Networking
About: HAproxy is a high-performance and highly-robust TCP/HTTP load
balancer which provides cookie-based persistence, advanced traffic
regulation with surge protection, automatic failover, run-time regex-based
header control, Web-based reporting, advanced logging to help
trouble-shooting buggy applications and/or networks, and a few other
features. Its own event-driven state machine achieves 10,000 hits per
second on modern hardware, even with tens of thousands of simultaneous

Mon, Jan 1st 2007 10:04
Office/Business :: Financial
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: jFin is a pure Java implementation of financial date arithmetic. It
includes date adjustments, schedule generation, offsets, and day count
calculations. It supports FBA Actual/Actual, Actual/360, Actual/365 Fixed,
Business/252, European 30/360, ISDA Actual/Actual, ISMA Actual/Actual,
Italian 30/360, and US 30/360. It is designed to be trivial to integrate
with legacy holiday calendar providers and day count calculators.
Changes: This release adds a ScheduleCutter class, which allows schedules
or periods to be cut by a set of dates or another schedule. It adds tests
for the ScheduleCutter. notionalStart and notionalEnd in Period have been
changed to be referenceStart and referenceEnd for clarity (deprecated
methods referencing the notional start and end dates). The
financialcalendarimpl source and tests have been moved into the main/src
and main/test directories. The coverage report has been cleaned up to
exclude test and example classes. Coverage has been improved to 100% of
non-deprecated code for the org.jfin.date.* package.

Mon, Jan 1st 2007 04:23
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Localization
Text Processing
About: libuninum is a library for converting Unicode strings to numbers.
Internal computation is done using arbitrary precision arithmetic, so
there is no limit on the size of the integer that can be converted. The
value is returned as an ASCII decimal string, a GNU MP object, or an
unsigned long integer. Auto-detection of the number system is provided.
The number systems supported include Arabic, Balinese, Bengali, Burmese,
Chinese, Devanagari, Egyptian, Ethiopic, Greek, Gujarati, Gurmukhi,
Hebrew, Kannada, Khmer, Klingon, Lao, Limbu, Malayalam, Mongolian, New Tai
Lue, Nko, Old Italic, Old Persian, Oriya, Osmanya, Phoenician, Roman
Numerals, Tamil, Telugu, Tengwar, Thai, and Tibetan.
Changes: This release contains numerous improvements, including a bugfix
in Chinese and support for Arabic Alphabetic, Greek Alphabetic,
Hexadecimal, Limbu, New Tai Lue, and Osmanya. It also adds the option of
GNU MP objects as return types and improves the installation process.

[023] - log4sh 1.3.7 (1.3.X)
by Kate Ward (http://freshmeat.net/users/sfsetse/)
Mon, Jan 1st 2007 09:56
System :: Logging
About: log4sh is a logging framework for shell scripts that works similar
to the other wonderful logging products available from the Apache Software
Foundataion (eg. log4j, log4perl). Although not as powerful as the others,
it can make the task of adding advanced logging to shell scripts easier,
and has much more power than just using simple "echo" commands throughout.
In addition, it can be configured from a properties file so that scripts in
a production environment do not need to be altered to change the amount of
logging they produce.
Changes: This release finally flushes out nearly all of the planned
features for the 1.3 development series. It will hopefully be the last
release in the 1.3 series before moving to the 1.4/1.5 series. In this
release, the SyslogAppender is now fully functional, several bugs have
been fixed, and there are additional unit tests to verify functionality.
There is also a new Advanced Usage section in the documentation.

About: Mailfilter is a flexible utility to get rid of unwanted spam mails,
before having to go through the trouble of downloading them into the local
computer. It offers support for one or many POP accounts and is especially
useful for dialup connections via modem. You can define your own filters
(rules) to determine which e-mails should be delivered and which are
considered waste.
Changes: This release fixes some inconsistencies between program and
documentation and contains code clean-ups. Also, this release turns the
formerly unstable branch into the stable branch, and therefore constitutes
a major update for users of the previous stable release. For users of the
unstable branch, the changes are marginal.

[031] - nss-mdns 0.9
by Mezcalero (http://freshmeat.net/users/poettering/)
Mon, Jan 1st 2007 19:58
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
System :: Networking
About: nss-mdns is a plugin for the GNU Name Service Switch (NSS)
functionality of the GNU C Library (glibc) which provides host name
resolution via Multicast DNS (a.k.a. Zeroconf, a.k.a. Apple Rendezvous,
a.k.a Apple Bonjour). This effectively allows name resolution by common
Unix/Linux programs in the ad-hoc mDNS domain .local.
Changes: This release unexports a few symbols from the shared objects,
thus fixing a segfault when used from Samba. It fixes a potential endless
loop in the packet parsing code. Build defaults have been changed to build
a safer, smaller version of nss-mdns by default.

[040] - Qtpfsgui 1.5
by Giuseppe Rota (http://freshmeat.net/users/prometeus81it/)
Mon, Jan 1st 2007 04:37
Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Capture :: Digital Camera
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers
About: Qtpfsgui is a graphical user interface that enables users to work
on HDR images. Supported operations include: creations of a HDR file from
a set of images of a scene taken at different exposure settings,
tone-mapping an HDR image into a common LDR image format (e.g JPEG or
PNG), and loading, saving, and rotating existing HDR images. In some ways,
the program is a open source clone of Photomatix.
Changes: An initial (beta) anti-ghosting feature was added. The "what you
see is what you save" behavior was restored in the TMO dialog. (The
saveLDR bug was fixed.) Buttons were removed in the TMO section: modifying
the settings now implies instantaneous computation. The shortcuts action
functionality was fixed. The save ldr dialog was fixed, so if no extension
is specified it uses the one belonging to the current "filter". Zooming in
and out and zooming to fit the window were enabled. The application now
remembers the most recently used directory for opening or saving hdr, for
loading or saving settings, and for loading input exposures.

[042] - re2c 0.11.0
by Marcus Boerger (http://freshmeat.net/users/helly25/)
Mon, Jan 1st 2007 07:12
Software Development :: Code Generators
About: re2c is a tool for writing fast and flexible lexers. Unlike other
such tools, it concentrates solely on generating efficient code for
matching regular expressions. This make it suitable for a wide variety of
applications. The generated scanners approach hand-crafted ones in terms
of size and speed.
Changes: This version has extended Unicode support using the new -u
switch. Using it allows generation of a parser that supports Unicode
characters (UTF-32). This means the generated code can deal with any valid
Unicode character up to 0x10FFFF. When UTF-8 or UTF-16 needs to be
supported, you need to convert the incoming stream to UTF-32 upon input
yourself. Note that re2c requires an unsigned integer as the internal data
type. Starting with this version, re2c also has a completley new memory
management scheme. This will allow a bunch of feature additions during the
0.11 development series.
