by Guido Gonzato (http://freshmeat.net/users/goccia/)
Tue, Jan 9th 2007 00:58
Printing
About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.
Changes: This release adds several layout features: tablatures above the
staff, !invisible! on rests and measure bars, 'V: staffscale' up to 3, and
other improvements and fixes.

About: Bluefish is a programmer's Web development editor written using
GTK, designed to save the experienced webmaster some keystrokes. It
features a multiple file editor, multiple toolbars, custom menus, image
and thumbnail dialogs, open from the Web, CSS dialogs, PHP, HTML, Java, C,
and XML support, external program integration (tidy, weblint, make, javac),
and lots of wizards.
Changes: Updated French and Japanese translations. The
application/bluefish-project MIME type icon name, the default highlighting
patterns for Tcl, a crash in new installations when trying to save (or save
as), a crash when deleting multiple bookmarks, and a memory leak in the
bookmark functionality have been fixed.

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Filters
About: clapf is a modular network filter for Postfix. It includes a
statistical (inverse chi-square) antispam module, the blackhole feature,
antivirus support (clamav, AVG Linux, avast!, Kaspersky, and Dr. Web), and
CGI and command-line interfaces for easily training the token database.
Users may manage their own spam quarantine. SURBL support is also
included.
Changes: Spam can now be marked in the subject line too. Image/word spam
can be recognized via external applications such as gocr/netpbm and
catdoc. Images can be penalized by assigning a special spammy token to
avoid unnecessary OCR processes. Maildir support was added for creating
the token database. Paging is available in the spam quarantine. The
blackhole feature no longer uses MySQL. The memory hash db now has a
smaller footprint. Binary messages (particularly those containing NUL
characters) are now handled properly. The CDB_File Perl module is no
longer required.

[012] - Flagpoll 0.8.2
by Daniel Shipton (http://freshmeat.net/users/dshipton/)
Tue, Jan 9th 2007 11:02
Software Development :: Build Tools
Utilities
About: Flagpoll is a tool for developers to use meta-data files for
storing information on what is needed to compile their software. Think of
it as the rpm of software development. It provides developers with total
control over which packages, versions, architectures, et cetera that they
want to use meta-data from. Instead of specifying other packages' cflags
and ldflag manually, you can call `flagpoll mylib --cflags --ldflags` and
it will retrieve the flags for its package as well as its dependencies.
Changes: When a valid configuration is not available, this release will
print out the reasons the query failed. Errors are now printed to stderr
so that ParseConfig with scons works correctly.

[014] - fwknop 1.0.1
by Michael Rash (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelrash/)
Tue, Jan 9th 2007 23:27
Security
System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: fwknop implements an authorization scheme that requires only a
single encrypted packet to communicate various pieces of information,
including desired access through a Netfilter policy and/or specific
commands to execute on the target system. The main application of this
program is to protect services such as SSH with an additional layer of
security in order to make the exploitation of vulnerabilities much more
difficult. The authorization server works by passively monitoring
authorization packets via libpcap.
Changes: fwknopd was updated to allow the GPG_REMOTE_ID variable to have
the value "ANY" to allow a SOURCE block to match on arbitrary remote gpg
signing keys. A bug was fixed to allow OPEN_PORTS to be omitted in
access.conf in favor of having only PERMIT_CLIENT_PORTS enabled. The
cd_rpmbuilder script was added to make it easy to build RPMs out of
CipherDyne projects by automatically downloading the project .tar.gz and
spec files from http://www.cipherdyne.org/.

[016] - GeoQO 0.4
by Wes Hardaker (http://freshmeat.net/users/hardaker/)
Tue, Jan 9th 2007 00:56
About: GeoQO is a waypoint, geocaching, and waymarking database. It is
extremely fast and offers a wide variety of utilities for manipulating
waypoints. Though designed for geocaching and waymarking, it should be
usable for any waypoint management. It is highly extensible; writing new
import, export, search, display, and other plugins is easy to do.
Changes: This release added a "diff" modify module for highlighting
changes between a new import and the current database. The "zip" import
was rewritten to use Archive::Zip. An "HTML" export module was added along
with an "only" modify plugin that limits a search set to particular
criteria. Support for a new class of waypoint types was added: wigle WiFi
data. There is a new import, search, and general waypoint class to support
it. You can download WiFi hotspot data from wigle.net and import it using
the wigle: import plugin. Much better error messages were provided in many
places.

Communications :: File Sharing
About: GetMonitor is an XChat script for automatic leeching and monitoring
list servers on serving channels on IRC networks. Similar to the AutoGet
and SDFind scripts, it helps you request files, monitor queues, and search
for files.
Changes: Almost every data structure was changed to solve major bugs, most
of them related to file requesting features. A new command interface and a
cleaned code design were implemented. The script is not yet fully usable,
but the current features work.

[020] - Java Date Picker 4.3
by Cosmina Stefanache (http://freshmeat.net/users/Cosmina/)
Tue, Jan 9th 2007 11:01
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: Java Date Picker is a suite of professional date components for
Swing. It contains a month component, a multiple month calendar, a date
field, and an editable date picker. It also provides a date cell editor
for JTable components. The components can be internationalized, have
support for input from both the mouse and the keyboard, and they can be

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
Software Development
About: JGraph Layout Pro is a high performance graph layout library for
JGraph that automatically positions your graph, diagram, or network in a
visually pleasing manner. Layout Pro provides flexibility and a simple
design, enabling you to use circular, tree, force-directed, and
hierarchical layouts with ease. Example uses are organisational charts,

[022] - kDataGrid 1.2
by Alex Bighea (http://freshmeat.net/users/alexbighea/)
Tue, Jan 9th 2007 14:45

[023] - LCD-Linux 0.12.0
by Mattia Jona (http://freshmeat.net/users/mjona/)
Tue, Jan 9th 2007 07:35
System :: Hardware
About: LCD-Linux is a Linux software abstraction layer to drive LCD
alphanumeric displays. It features complete VT102 console emulation and
aims to be as general and flexible as possible. It consists of two kernel
modules, lcd-linux and the display driver. Currently, only the Hitachi
HD44780 is supported, but drivers for other LCD controllers can be easily
written.
Changes: This release fixes several bugs introduced in the previous
(0.11.0) release when the virtual LCD screen was introduced. That release
must be considered broken and not to be used. Due to different design
choices, many escape sequences are now reimplemented as ioctl. For
example, custom character generation is now done via an ioctl instead of
via an escape sequence. Some memory optimizations were done by
implementing the driver array as a doubly linked list, thus saving one
kmalloc(). Finally, a small lcd-console application was introduced to show
how the LCD display can be used as a small console.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: Wiki
About: MediaWiki is a Web-based collaborative editing environment.
Originally built for the online encyclopedia project Wikipedia, it's
geared to support a large number of users and pages.
Changes: An XSS injection vulnerability was located in the Ajax support
module, affecting MediaWiki 1.6.x and up when the optional $wgUseAjax
setting is enabled. There is no danger in the default configuration, with
$wgUseAjax off. If you are using an extension based on the optional Ajax
module, either disable it or upgrade to a version containing the fix:
1.8.3, 1.7.2, 1.6.9, or 1.9.0rc2 release candidate.

[028] - MindTerm 3.1.1
by Martin Forssen (http://freshmeat.net/users/maf/)
Tue, Jan 9th 2007 02:48
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: MindTerm is a complete ssh-client in pure Java. It can be used
either as a standalone Java application or as a Java applet. Three
packages of importance are provided (terminal, ssh, and security). The
terminal package is a rather complete vt102/xterm-terminal, and the
ssh-package contains the ssh- protocol and also "drop-in" socket
replacements to use ssh-tunnels transparently from a Java
application/applet. It also contains functionality to realize a
ssh-server. Finally, the security package contains RSA, DES, 3DES,
Blowfish, IDEA, and RC4 ciphers.
Changes: This version has the ability to show a virtual keyboard as well
as the ability to remap keys. It is now also possible to print a screen
dump of the screen or the entire buffer. The ability to use host-based
authentication was added. This release also fixes a number of bugs and
incompatibility issues.

[029] - Monitorix 0.9.1
by Jordi Sanfeliu (http://freshmeat.net/users/Mikaku/)
Tue, Jan 9th 2007 00:57
System :: Monitoring
About: Monitorix is a lightweight monitoring tool designed to monitor as
many services as it can. At this time, it monitors from the CPU load and
temperatures to the users on the system. Network device activity, network
service demand, and even the devices' interrupt activity are also
monitored. It uses RRDtool as its logging and graphing back-end. The
current status of any corporate UNIX/Linux server with Monitorix installed
can be accessed via a Web browser.
Changes: Some annoying cron messages about an uninitialized value during
an addition and a multiplication that occurred only on 2.4 kernels were
fixed. The line and area colors in the kernel-related new graphs were
fixed.

[030] - monotone 0.32
by Matthew Gregan (http://freshmeat.net/users/mgregan/)
Tue, Jan 9th 2007 00:53
Software Development :: Version Control
About: monotone is a distributed version control system with a flat peer
model, cryptographic version naming, meta-data certificates, decentralized
authority, and overlapping branches. It works out of a transactional
version database stored in a regular file, and uses a custom network
protocol for efficient database synchronization.
Changes: The speed of the annotate and log commands was improved
significantly. An import command was added to aid the tracking of upstream
sources. content_diff and get_file_of commands were added to the automate
interface. Improvements were made to the UI of the log command (--revision
was replaced with --from, a new --to option was added, and the log output
is now in toposort order). serve no longer accepts patterns on the command
line (use permissions hooks). Implicit globbing was removed from the author
selector. A new version of Botan was imported. Numerous other bugfixes and
improvements were made.

[031] - MxGraph 0.9.9.8 beta 2
by bensond (http://freshmeat.net/users/BessyBoo/)
Tue, Jan 9th 2007 06:26
Information Management
Information Management :: Workflow Frameworks
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based
About: mxGraph is a JavaScript library that uses built-in browser
capabilities to provide an interactive drawing and diagramming solution.
Target applications are Web based applications that require workflow/BPM,
diagram, network, or general graph editing to be available in-place on a
Web page.
Changes: A number of API improvements and simplifications have been made
for this release. An mxPath object has been added to abstract from the
various browser vector graphics languages. This means new shapes only need
to be defined in one place and knowledge of SVG and VML is no longer
required. A .NET backend has been added in addition to the PHP backend for
easy server-side integration.

System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
About: MySQL High Availability clustering is a set of scripts and
programs that provide a high availability database cluster using MySQL
replication. It is transparent to client applications, as the cluster
uses a shared logical IP to provide the service.
Changes: This release speeds up the recovery in most cases when the master
node is not dead. It introduces the new configuration parameter
ATTEMPT_KILL, which is 0 by default, and which if set to 1, forces the
execution of attempt_kill (an SQL KILL for every MySQL process before
retrying the verification).

[033] - nmdb 0.11
by Alberto Bertogli (http://freshmeat.net/users/albertogli/)
Tue, Jan 9th 2007 00:51
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
About: nmdb is a network database (dbm-style) that uses the TIPC protocol
to communicate with its clients. It consists of an in-memory cache that
saves (key, value) pairs, and a persistent backend that stores the pairs
on disk. Both work in combination, but the use of the backend is optional,
so you can use the server only for cache queries, pretty much like
memcached.
Changes: Distributed queries are now supported in both the C library and
the Python module. 'get' performance was improved. A bug in the cache code
was fixed. The Python module now supports storing of arbitrary objects
(automatic pickling). A user guide was added.

[035] - OpenVZ kernel 2.6.18-028test010.1 (Development)
by Kir Kolyshkin (http://freshmeat.net/users/k001/)
Tue, Jan 9th 2007 07:38
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux
About: OpenVZ is a modified Linux kernel with additional support for
OpenVZ Virtual Environments (VE, also known as VPS). VEs are isolated,
secure environments on a single physical server, enabling better server
utilization and ensuring that applications do not conflict. Each VE
performs and executes exactly like a stand-alone server; VEs can be
rebooted independently and have root access, users, IP addresses, memory,
processes, files, applications, system libraries, and configuration files.
Due to a single kernel model, OpenVZ has native performance and very high
density. It is the core of Virtuozzo.
Changes: This release was updated to kernel 2.6.18.6. Bugfixes were made
in VE, beancounters, CPT, quota, and scheduler. I/O accounting was added
in beancounters. The beancounter /proc was redesigned.

Tue, Jan 9th 2007 01:42
Text Processing :: Markup
Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML/XHTML
Text Processing :: Markup :: TeX/LaTeX
About: Pandoc is a Haskell library for converting from one markup format
to another, and a command-line tool that uses this library. It can read
markdown and (subsets of) reStructuredText, HTML, and LaTeX, and it can
write markdown, reStructuredText, HTML, LaTeX, DocBook, RTF, and S5 HTML
slide shows. Pandoc extends standard markdown syntax with footnotes,
embedded LaTeX, and more. A compatibility mode is provided for those who
need a drop-in replacement for Markdown.pl. Included wrapper scripts make
it easy to convert markdown to PDFs and Web pages to markdown documents.
It has a modular design where the addition of a new input or output format
requires only the addition of a reader or writer module.
Changes: This major new release includes many new features and bugfixes. A
DocBook writer has been added. Footnote syntax has been changed to conform
to the de facto standard. A '--strict' mode has been added to turn off
syntax extensions. Mac OS X and Windows binary packages have been
provided. markdown2pdf and html2markdown have been polished considerably,
and hsmarkdown has been added as a drop-in replacement for Markdown.pl.
"Smart" typography is now handled in the readers rather than the writers.
Many small bugs have been fixed.

[037] - Pantheios 1.0.1 beta 21
by Dr Proctor (http://freshmeat.net/users/DrProctor/)
Tue, Jan 9th 2007 05:57
Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Logging
About: Pantheios is a C/C++ logging API library. It offers an optimal
combination of complete type-safety, efficiency, genericity, and
extensibility. It is simple to use and extend, highly portable (platform
and compiler independent), and it upholds the C tradition of only paying
for what you use. Pantheios supports logging of message statements of
arbitrary complexity, consisting of heterogenous types. Pantheios supports
filtering of log messages based on severity level.
Changes: Fault-tolerance was added to be.N, so one or more (but not all)
back-ends can fail and the application can proceed. The be.fail back-end
was added, which always fails (for testing be.N fault tolerance).

[040] - PHP MIME Mail decoder class 2007.01.09
by Manuel Lemos (http://freshmeat.net/users/mlemos/)
Tue, Jan 9th 2007 00:57
Communications :: Email :: Filters
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: PHP MIME Mail decoder class is a PHP class to parse and decode MIME
email messages. It supports decoding single RFC 2822 MIME messages or
archives that aggregate multiple messages in the mbox format. It can
decode messages read from files or data strings. The bodies of multipart
messages can be decoded into distinct sub-messages. Optionally, the
message body data can be saved to separate files, so the class can handle
messages larger than the available memory. The parser can tolerate some
syntax errors in malformed messages that are not compliant with RFC 2822.
Changes: The parser is now more tolerant when dealing with malformed
messages with syntax errors that do not comply to RFC 2822, like messages
with broken quoted-printable headers and bodies or invalid header names.
The parser can now skip syntax errors and return a list of warnings
instead of failing to parse the message completely.

by Niels Elburg (http://freshmeat.net/users/nelburg/)
Tue, Jan 9th 2007 14:49
Multimedia
Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Video
About: Veejay is a visual instrument and real-time video sampler. It
allows you to "play" the video like you would play a piano. While playing,
you can record the resulting video directly to disk (video sampling).
Veejay can be operated live by using the keyboard (which is completely
user definable) or remotely over TCP/IP. Veejay can be used to manipulate
video in a realtime environment such as visual performances or for
(automated) interactive video installations.
Changes: You can now save a snapshot of the FX chain to a Bundle and then
attach a key combination to this bundle in the VIMS bundle Window. To save
your keyboard layout, you can use 'save actionfile'. To load the
actionfile, pass it to veejay with the -l commandline option (or use 'load
actionfile' in GVeejayReloaded) The configure script was fixed, and new
lines have been added to detect and handle x86_64 and amd64 architectures.
However, compilation on 64-bit systems may still fail.

[062] - VisualRoute 11.0c
by Visualware Inc. (http://freshmeat.net/users/trish/)
Tue, Jan 9th 2007 07:17
Internet
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
Security
About: VisualRoute combines the tools traceroute, ping, reverse DNS, and
whois into a single graphical interface that analyzes Internet
connections, reporting quick and essential data points for finding
connectivity problems. An IP location database identifies the geographical
location of IP addresses and Web servers, showing the path of an Internet
connection on a global map. The domain registration and network provider
contact information are reported for each hop of a network route for quick
problem reporting. Several new advanced edition options include reverse
tracing to initiate a connection test from a remote desktop or data
center, port testing, Internet application testing, and TCP traceroutes.
Changes: New features include a new graphical report of connectivity
performance, identification of network peering points, and an updated IP
location database for improved accuracy of IP locations. The 2007 release
introduces 2 new server editions: the Server Professional Edition which
logs all end-user connection test reports to a server-side database, and a
Server NOC Edition which performs continuous connectivity testing from
remote systems and logs all results to the server-side database.

[065] - wingS 3.0 beta1
by Holger Engels (http://freshmeat.net/users/hengels/)
Tue, Jan 9th 2007 14:43
Software Development
About: wingS is a servlet development framework for Web applications. It
features Swing-like components and utilizes Swing models, Swing events,
and a very similar API. A special LayoutManager allows you to place
components using designer provided HTML templates. The HTML code
generation of the components themself supports PLAF (Pluggable Look and
Feel), so it is possible to create a different output, like plain HTML,
HTML+CSS, and WML.
Changes: This release is binary and source compatible with wingS 2.1. Just
drop in the new jars and experience the much improved responsiveness and
usability of a modern Web UI. The usage of AJAX is completely transparent
to the application developer. The wingS core tracks all modifications to
the component model and reflects them incrementally on the client.

[067] - xine gxine 0.5.10
by Moritz Barsnick (http://freshmeat.net/users/barsnick/)
Tue, Jan 9th 2007 01:06
Multimedia :: Video :: Display
About: xine is a free multimedia player. It plays back CDs, DVDs, and
VCDs. It also decodes multimedia files like AVI, MOV, WMV, and MP3 from
local disk drives, and displays multimedia streamed over the Internet. It
interprets many of the most common multimedia formats available--and some
of the most uncommon formats, too. All those features come in a reusable
library (xine-lib) which can easily be embedded in your applications.
Changes: A potential local exploit was fixed. Support for newer versions
of gnome-screensaver was added, and DBus support was enabled by default to
support it. The initialization of the preferences window was deferred from
program startup to window request time.
