Database

About: aSVERD (A Scaleable Vector Entity Relationship Diagram) is a simple
Java system (3 classes) for generating entity relationship diagrams (ERDs)
from an existing database as scalable vector graphics (SVG). The system is
run from the command line to generate the initial SVG file. No attempt is
made to lay out the tables other than as a grid. The diagram can be
round-trip updated against the database and table positions, notes, etc.
will be preserved. Connecting lines between the tables are generated by
JavaScript in the SVG, rather than being just “lines”. This way, they stay
connected to the tables with which they are associated, being redrawn each
time the diagram is displayed.

  Wed, Jan 10th 2007 12:14

Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP
Database

About: Decimail Server is a mail server supporting IMAP and SMTP that uses
a PostgreSQL database to store messages. Mailboxes are defined using SQL
queries, allowing complex client-independent automatic message filtering
and categorisation. For example you can partition your messages
chronologically, by correspondent, and by mailing list at the same time,
with each message appearing in several mailboxes. You can also use
PostgreSQL's text indexing extension for fast keyword searching. Decimail
also features anti-spam processing of outgoing messages.

Changes: This release uses the actions framework to support mailing lists
and "black hole" spam mailboxes. Randomly-allocated anti-spam addresses
are now recorded and re-used in subsequent messages to the same recipient.
Correspondents' real names are now recorded so that they can be offered for
auto-completion in message composition. Internally, a new database
interface may slightly improve performance.

About: Edival is a simple EDI file parsing and validation library for the
EDIFACT and X12 EDI standards. It is a stream-based parser in which an
application defines event handlers for structures that the parser will
find in a file, e.g. elements and segments.

Changes: This cumulative release contains many updates from the past two
months. Fixes include X12 repetition handling, an X12 delimiter storage
array size bug, and a schema tree initialization bug that caused memory
access violations. New features include EDIFACT data parsing, and document
start (ISA/UNA/UNB) and end (IEA/UNZ) event handlers, which are required to

[016] - genders 1.6-1
  by Albert Chu (http://freshmeat.net/users/chu11/)
  Wed, Jan 10th 2007 14:00

System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
System :: Systems Administration

About: Genders is a static cluster configuration database used for cluster
configuration management. It is used by a variety of tools and scripts for
management of large clusters. The genders database is accessed by every
node in a cluster, either through a networked file system or by
replicating the database on every node of the cluster. The database
describes the layout and configuration of the cluster so that tools and
scripts can sense the variations of cluster nodes. By abstracting this
information into a plain text file, it becomes possible to change the
configuration of a cluster by modifying only one file.

Changes: Bugs in querying have been fixed. AIX port patches are included.
There are fixes in the Solaris port.

[017] - GNOME Mplayer 0.3
  by Kevin DeKorte (http://freshmeat.net/users/kdekorte/)
  Wed, Jan 10th 2007 20:36

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players
Multimedia :: Video :: Display

About: GNOME Mplayer is a simple GUI for Mplayer. It is based heavily on
the mplayerplug-in source code and can basically be seen as a standalone
version of that. Currently, it is a test bed for new methods of operation
for mplayerplug-in, so it may be broken or lacking many features.

Changes: This release detects PLS files automatically and passes the
-playlist argument if needed. Playlist passing can be forced by setting
the -playlist flag on the command line. The volume as a percentage is now
displayed in the tooltip of the volume widget. A message is now displayed
when caching to show that the program is doing something. The code was
flattened so that only one play_ command is needed. A problem with the
default working directory was fixed. The automake files were reworked so
that 'make dist' works properly.

[020] - idioskopos 0.4.1
  by Rick Vinyard (http://freshmeat.net/users/rvinyard/)
  Wed, Jan 10th 2007 23:36

Software Development

About: idioskopos (Greek: idio- inward, within, private; -skopos look,
aim, target) is a C++ library that simplifies the addition of object
reflection and introspection to C++ classes. It provides classes for
implementing properties (internal storage), reference properties (a
property interface to an externally stored value under your control), and
virtual properties (a property interface created from get and set methods
you supply). The approach taken is intrusive. One advantage is that
special preprocessors are not necessary, either for your own code or for
those that use your code. A disadvantage of an intrusive approach is just
that; it's intrusive, meaning you must explicitly state what class members
are properties and instantiate them in your constructors.

Changes: This release features improved documentation, a few new features,
and a little code cleanup. The constructors of introspectable objects and
properties now have an optional slot that, if provided, will automatically
connect to the changed signal. Because of this change, the ordering of the
construction parameters has changed from a container-name-value sequence
to name-value-container.

[021] - Ipo4ta 0.7
  by Slava Stefanov (http://freshmeat.net/users/ipo4ta/)
  Wed, Jan 10th 2007 16:59

Communications
Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: Ipo4ta is a new Internet post system that combines email and Web
site technologies. It overcomes limitations in the SMTP protocol by
removing the need to transfer the message itself. Instead, messages stay
on the sender's server until the recipient picks it up. This means that
the recipient only needs to be sent a notification that contains the
address of the sender and message identification data. This helps to
eliminate spam and enables new and interesting features (like a
combination of mail, forum, and homepage).

Changes: The Ipo4ta-protocol was optimised. The specification version
0.6(candidate) is now available. The server was totally redesigned
according to the new version of the specification. Message caching was
added to the server. The admin interface has one-step new user
registration (folders and permissions are automatically created). Some
forum view optimization has been done in the Web-client GUI.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: LightSquid is a light log analyzer for the squid proxy. It features
a small size (~45k) and a fast parser. It generates small per-user data
files, has a Perl-based CGI script for dynamic generated report pages,
requires no database or additional Perl modules, can display various
reports, and has user group suport.

Changes: The phantom user has been removed. There are no more negative
numbers in reports. Skipping in "today" mode is now five times faster,
which is very useful for very large logs. You may now remove some users
from a report. The lightparser argument "YESTERDAY" was added. When
showing the "bigfiles" report for a single user, only user files are
shown.

[034] - Mr. Persister 3.7.9-beta
  by Jakob Jenkov (http://freshmeat.net/users/jjenkov/)
  Wed, Jan 10th 2007 10:01

Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: Mr. Persister is a POJO persistence API for Java. The main focus of
Mr. Persister is to handle all the trivial JDBC work, and leave the
non-trivial parts up to you. It uses plain SQL as the query language, it
can auto-map objects to the database, and it can generate SQL for a lot of
trivial tasks by itself (such as insert, update, and delete). Mr. Persister
also has support for easy batch updates of collections of objects,
connection and transaction handling, and many other features.

Changes: This is a service release. It contains only two minor features.
The first feature is the ability to map boolean Java types to numeric
database columns. The value 0 is interpreted as false, and 1 as true.
Since Oracle doesn't have a boolean type, this kind of mapping was
necessary. In addition, the API is prepared to allow mapping of other Java
types to non-default database types in the future (e.g. date to varchar or
numeric). Second, the "isBooleanProperty" naming convention for boolean
properties is now finally recognized as a getter.

About: RhinoRider is a Java implementation of the W3C DOM, layered over a
Web browser's native JavaScript. Comparable to Sun's Common DOM API, it
provides applets with an interface to the Web document, through a familiar
Java binding of the DOM. The implementation is not yet complete, but it
provides at least partial support for these DOM features: Core level 3,
XML, Events, Traversal, and Range.

Changes: DOM event dispatch was recoded from scratch. Additional DOM
methods were implemented for the CharacterData, Document, and Node
interfaces. Demo applets were coded, and test pages were posted. A minimal
rhinoRider.jar is now released separately from the bulkier textbender.jar.
Applet load times are improved. The project was renamed from 'OverDOM' to

[058] - Task Coach 0.61.5
  by Frank Niessink (http://freshmeat.net/users/fniessink/)
  Wed, Jan 10th 2007 13:52

Office/Business :: Scheduling

About: Task Coach is a simple todo manager to manage personal tasks and
todo lists. It grew out of a frustration that well-known task managers,
such as those provided with Outlook or Lotus Notes, do not provide
facilities for composite tasks. Often, tasks and other things to do
consist of several activities. Task Coach is designed to deal with
composite tasks.

Changes: Opening a Task Coach file with many effort records was slow. This
release fixes the performance issue.

Education
Internet
Scientific/Engineering

About: Frink is a calculating tool and programming language designed to
help you in the real world. It tracks units of measurement throughout all
calculations and ensures that answers are correct. It converts between
systems of measurement and has a huge library of physical data. It handles
conversions between time zones, currencies, and historical values of the
U.S. dollar and the British pound, translates between several languages,
does date/time math, and more.

Changes: Historical British Price Data has been updated through the end of
2005. This will be extended to 2006 when complete price data for 2006
becomes available, but until then, UK pound values for 2006 and beyond
will return the final value for 2005. This should be accurate within about
3.6% of today's real value. More sample programs have been added for
conversion between latitude/longitude and Universal Transverse Mercator
(UTM) coordinates.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries

About: Tntnet is a Web application server for generating Web applications
in C++. HTML pages with some additional tags for inclusion of C++ code are
compiled into shared libraries and served from tntnet. It resembles PHP,
JSP, or Mason, but the programming language used is C++, and the pages are
compiled into native code before serving. Tntnet is fully multithreaded and
supports HTTP keep-alive for best performance. Its dynamic pages are faster
than static pages with other Web servers, while creating Web applications
is simple.

Changes: This release has support for virtual hosts. Scalability is
further improved by using epoll where available. Building of SDK and demos
can be suppressed. ecpp-compilers now has a switch to specify the include
directory (-I dir).

Security

About: TNV (The Network Visualizer or Time-based Network Visualizer)
depicts network traffic by visualizing packets and links between local and
remote hosts. It is intended for network traffic analysis to facilitate
learning what constitutes 'normal' activity on a network, investigating
packet details and security events, or for network troubleshooting. It can
open saved libpcap (from tcpdump, windump, ethereal, etc.) formatted files
or capture live packets on the wire, and export data in libpcap format or
save the data to a MySQL database to enable the examination of trends over
time.

Changes: The license was changed to MIT for more flexibility. Sort by
frequency was implemented. Menu links were added to the SF project page,
forums, bug, and feature request. The source was refactored to cluster
packages together and to have less duplicate code for databases. A 'remove
all data' menu item for MySQL was added. Minor bugs with MySQL were fixed.
OS X packages was added.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Office/Business

About: WebGUI is a content management framework built to allow average
business users to build and maintain complex Web sites. It is modular,
pluggable, and platform independent. It was designed to allow the people
who create the content to manage it online, rather than content management
taking up the time of busy IT staff. WebGUI comes with a full host of
features including shopping cart, subscriptions, forums, photo galleries,
FAQs, link lists, blogs, SQL reports, a Web services interface, and a very
configurable user privilege and profiling system.

Changes: A problem where closed posts were erroneously displaying in
Collaboration System was fixed. The Wiki now protects against malicious
content and cross-site scripting, and performs content filtering.
GetSyndicatedContent Workflow Activity fixes were made. The Wiki no longer
displays an 'Add a new page" link to users who are not allowed to add
pages. WebGUI::Mail::Get now handles multipart/alternative messages
appropriately. An issue where DB slaves were not being instantiated
correctly was fixed.

Communications
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Build Tools

About: XINS is a technology used to define, create, and invoke remote
APIs. XINS is specification-oriented. When API specifications are written
(in XML), XINS will transform them to HTML-based documentation and Java
code for both the client-side and the server-side. The communication is

goals include simplicity, scalability, and testability. XINS is not only a
specification technology, but also an application development framework.
It offers transaction logging, unique log documentation, and active code
generation.

Changes: This version includes many new features, including the _WSDL
meta-function, auto-filling of the test forms with the examples, a
JSON-RPC calling convention, Map to POJO conversion, the ability to edit
XML elements, a REST example, and a new download-tools target.
