Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: BalanceNG is a modern software IP load balancing solution. It is
small, fast, and easy to use and setup. It offers session persistence,
different distribution methods (Round Robin, Random, Hash, and Least

availability configurations on multiple nodes. It integrates pcap packet
dumping for debugging purposes and allows the implementation of a
"transparent forensic logging bridge".

Changes: A bug which made script based health checks on Linux systems work
unreliably has been fixed. The output of "show target N" has been optimized
and beautified.

[007] - CacheTable 0.1
  by Matteo Merli (http://freshmeat.net/users/merlimat/)
  Sat, Jan 13th 2007 17:16

Software Development :: Libraries

About: CacheTable is a C++ template library that implements a very fast
hash map container. Its particularity, compared with std::hash_map and
google::sparse_hash_map, is that it has a fixed size (decided it when it
is created) and a random item replacement policy: in case of an "hash
collision" the older item is "discarded" and replaced with the new one.
This container is ideal for implementing a caching system, when you want
very fast item insertion and retrieval and you know the memory amount you
want to dedicate ahead of time.

[021] - Heimdal 0.7.2
  by Love Hörnquist Åstrand (http://freshmeat.net/users/lha/)
  Sat, Jan 13th 2007 07:02

About: Heimdal is an implementation of Kerberos 5 that aims to be
protocol compatible with existing implementations and RFC 1510. It is
also reasonably compatible with the M.I.T Kerberos V5 API, supports
Kerberos V5 over GSS-API (RFC 1964), includes a number of important and
useful applications (rsh, telnet, popper, etc.), and is backwards
compatible with Kerberos V4.

Changes: This release fixes a security problem in rshd that enabled an
attacker to overwrite and change ownership of any file that root could
write. It fixes a DOS in telnetd. It makes gss_acquire_cred(GSS_C_ACCEPT)
check that the requested name exists in the keytab before returning
success. (This allows servers to check if it's even possible to use
GSSAPI.) It fixes the receiving end of token delegation for GSS-API. It
still wrongly uses subkey for sending, for compatibility reasons. telnetd,
login, and rshd are now more verbose in logging failed and successful
logins.

[031] - mkvtoolnix 2.0.0
  by Moritz Bunkus (http://freshmeat.net/users/Mosu/)
  Sat, Jan 13th 2007 18:04

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Conversion
Multimedia :: Video :: Conversion

About: mkvtoolnix is a set of tools that allow users to display
information about, extract streams from, merge several streams into, and
split Matroska media files. Supported video stream types include streams
from AVIs, Ogg/OGM, and RealVideo files. Supported audio formats include
Vorbis, RealAudio, MP3, MP2, FLAC, AC3, and AAC. Several subtitle formats
are supported, including SRT, SSA, ASS, VobSub, and many others. The
resulting files can be played back with various media players on
Linux/Unix or the Matroska Direct Show filters under Windows.

Changes: This release contains new features like support for AVC/h.264
elementary streams (both single files and from AVIs), proper support for
MPEG-1/-2 videos without the ugly blockiness, and support for extracting
MPEG-1/-2 video tracks. The use of "simple blocks" with subtitles has been
fixed. There have been many usability enhancements to mmg and the usual
list of smaller bugfixes.

[032] - Modular Google Talk Bot 1.1
  by Michael Still (http://freshmeat.net/users/mikalstill/)
  Sat, Jan 13th 2007 18:49

System :: Networking

About: gtalkbot is a modular bot system for Google Talk and other Jabber
IM networks. It uses simple Python plug-ins that register verbs, which
appear as the first word of an IM and result in another IM being sent back
to the user. An example MythTV bot is included.

Changes: This version moves the username, password, and plugin directory
information into a configuration file. This means that the username and
password that the bot is using will no longer appear in the command line,
and therefore will not appear in the command history nor the process
listing.

[034] - Nix's Web-based SSH client 0.0.3
  by Gabriel Schulhof (http://freshmeat.net/users/gabrielschulhof/)
  Sat, Jan 13th 2007 17:19

About: Nix's Web-based SSH client has a backend written in C/glib and a
frontend written in PHP. It talks to the backend via a Unix socket. The
backend maintains a number of SSH processes in TTYs, reads their TTYs, and
sends the contents to PHP for formatting. PHP accepts input and passes it
to the correct TTY for processing.

Changes: CR/LF interpretation was improved. Escape sequences were added.
GOption command line parsing was added.

About: SunflowerApplet is a Gnome Applet that changes the shadow on the
windows managed by compiz when the decorator plugin is enabled. The shadow
on the window moves from left (west) to right (east) from sunrise to
sunset, and stays static from sunset to sunrise, as if the shadow is being
cast by the "sun" moving right (east) to left (west) over your windows. It
requires compiz to be the window manager and the compiz decorator plugin
to be active or beryl with the emerald window decorator.
