[002] - ant4eclipse 0.5-RC1
by Nils Hartmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/nilsha/)
Tue, Jan 23rd 2007 14:47
Software Development :: Build Tools
About: The aim of the Ant4eclipse project is to avoid redundancy of
Eclipse and Ant configurations in order to build small but powerful build
systems for the continuous integration process. It provides a set of tasks
for the Apache Ant build tool. This tasks allow developers to use Eclipse
configuration directly from their ant buildfiles. Included are tasks for
reading Eclipse's .classpath file, for computing build order for a set of
projects, and for launching Java applications as defined in Eclipse launch
configurations.
Changes: Along with several bugfixes, this release contains support for
Subversion.

[003] - Arabica January 2007
by Jez (http://freshmeat.net/users/jez/)
Tue, Jan 23rd 2007 03:45
Software Development :: Libraries
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
About: Arabica is a C++ XML parser toolkit that has a full SAX2
implementation (the Simple API for XML), including the optional interfaces
and helper classes. It also implements the W3C DOM (Document Object Model)
Level 2.0 Core, together with XPath 1.0. It delivers UTF-8 encoded
std::strings or UCS-2 std::wstrings, but can also accommodate custom
string types and alternative encodings. It provides uniform SAX2 wrappers
for the expat parser, Xerces, libxml, and the Microsoft XML parser COM
component.
Changes: Further improvements were made to the configure system. The build
can now be configured without the Boost libraries, in which case the XPath
components are skipped. Parser detection is improved, as is detecting the
correct libraries for sockets. TreeWalker and NodeFilter were added. MSXML
version checking was beefed up. Buffering in convertstream was reworked to
reduce the number of dynamic allocations. LexicalHandler and DeclHandler
are promoted to be part of the XMLReader interface.

Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: Message Boards
About: FlightFeather's goal is "social networking for everyone". This
means that anyone should have a chance to run a popular social networking
site on minimal hardware, and without wasting bandwidth. Whenever the
system's state changes, it generates static HTML pages. Pure read
operations (usually about 90% of the total) do not require the application
to run at all. Although FlightFeather is at an early stage of development,
it is already functional, and runs the "bosstats.com" site.
Changes: This version introduces a feature that allows easy submission of
FlightFeather-hosted content to Digg. Generic utility functions perform
most of the work, so it should be relatively straightforward to extend
support to other social networking sites in the future.

[036] - Kelbt 0.9
by Adrian Thurston (http://freshmeat.net/users/age/)
Tue, Jan 23rd 2007 03:36
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
Text Processing :: General
About: Kelbt generates backtracking LALR parsers. It is different from
other backtracking LR systems in two ways. Firstly, it introduces a class
of actions called undo actions, which are invoked as the backtracker
undoes parsing. These allow the user to revert any side effects of forward
semantic actions, making it possible to backtrack over language constructs
which must modify global state in preparation for handling context
dependencies. Secondly, it enables a user-controlled parsing strategy
approximating that of generalized recursive-descent parsing. This makes it
easy to resolve language ambiguities by ordering the grammar productions of
a nonterminal according to their precedence. A partial C++ parser composed
of a scanner, a name lookup stage, and a grammar with standard semantic
actions and semantic undo actions is included.
Changes: The sentinel at the top of the stack now needs to have its
pointers initialized.

[037] - libvirt 0.1.11
by Daniel Berrange (http://freshmeat.net/users/danielpb/)
Tue, Jan 23rd 2007 03:35
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Libvirt is a library for management of virtualized operating
systems. Initially supporting the Xen hypervisor, it provides a generic
driver backend to allow implementations for management of arbitrary
hypervisors (QEMU, UML, etc). The library aims to provide a long term
stable API to isolate applications from instability in the APIs of the
underlying virtualization technology. The core library API is written in
C, with bindings for Python and a command line tool for shell scripting
also provided. The library allows either full read-write access to the
hypervisor, or for unprivileged use a secure read-only channel (eg for
monitoring).
Changes: This release finishes support for managing XM config files in Xen
<= 3.0.3. Minor bugfixes were included for inactive domains managed in Xen
>= 3.0.4. A major memory leak was resolved in the internal virConf object
used in managing guests in Xen <= 3.0.3. A formal Relax-NG schema is now
included to allow validation of XML files describing virtual machines.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
System :: Logging
About: Logback is intended as a successor to the popular log4j project,
and was designed by log4j's founder, Ceki Gulcu. The basic architecture is
sufficiently generic so as to apply under different circumstances. It is
divided into three modules. The Core module lays the groundwork for the
other two modules, whereas the Classic module can be assimilated to an
improved version of log4j. It natively implements the SLF4J API so that
you can readily switch back and forth between logback and other logging
systems, such as log4j or JDK14 Logging. The Access module integrates with
Servlet containers to provide HTTP access log functionality. You can easily
build your own modules on top of the Core module.
Changes: This version contains new components in the Access module,
allowing users to display the full HttpServletRequest or
HttpServletResponse. The short introduction was split into chapters 1 and
2 of the logback manual. The chapters about Appenders and Layouts have
been updated to document new components of logback. A demonstration Web
app presenting logback's major components is available. A document
explains how to run it, and provides a step-by-step visit of the demo. An
initial translation of logback jars to JDK1.4 is present in this release.

About: Open Blue Lab is a RAD framework (MDA based) that transforms UML
models in Web 2.0 portal applications without writing code. It is
currently being used to develop a full Web ERP from scratch. Portal layout
may be configured through the UI, and Ajax and HTML-based forms are

[049] - otl 0.49
by david a thompson (http://freshmeat.net/users/thomp/)
Tue, Jan 23rd 2007 14:35
Text Processing :: General
About: otl is intended to convert a text file to a HTML or XHTML file. It
is different than many other text-to-HTML programs in that the input
format (by default a simple highly readable plain text format) can be
customized by the user, and the output format (by default XHTML) can be
user-defined. It can process complex structures such as ordered and
unordered lists (nested or not), and add custom "headers" and "footers" to
documents. The conversion utilizes Perl regex, adding quite a bit of
flexibility and power to the conversion process. Since both the syntax of
the source file and of the output can be readily customized, otl in theory
can be used for many types of conversions. The package also includes
tag-remove, a script for stripping HTML/XHTML-ish tags from documents.
Changes: This release has a new '--style' option that allows specification
of a CSS stylesheet to use when generating a HTML document. It also uses a
slightly different file structure for the configuration files. It includes
several other bugfixes and enhancements which significantly improve
usability.

written using this language, which in turn can be used to monitor streams
of incoming events. It also provides a feature similar to materialized
views. Joins and sub-queries are also supported to allow event
co-relation. A database is used underneath to do the heavy lifting.
Changes: Partition processing was redesigned. Queries with Partitions
containing the Pre-Filter clause do not get triggered unless the Event
makes it through the Pre-Filter. Events are also fetched and Pre-Filtered
for the next cycle in parallel with Query processing. PreFilterTriggerTest
was added to demonstrate this feature. With this change, it is possible to
have true Load distribution using the Pre-Filter clause to split Events
across multiple Queries (Query Partitioning). The
db.privatevolatile.instance option was added to the Kernel configuration
list.

[062] - the breve simulation environment 2.5.1
by jklein (http://freshmeat.net/users/jklein/)
Tue, Jan 23rd 2007 03:34
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
About: breve is a 3D simulation environment designed for the simulation of
decentralized systems and artificial life. While the concept is similar to
existing packages such as Swarm and StarLogo, the implementation, which
simulates both continuous time and continuous 3D space, is quite
different. It also includes an experimental physics engine, allowing the
user to implement real-time physical simulations. Simulations are written
in a simple object-oriented language called "steve". Users define an
agent's behavior by specifying how the agent interacts with the world at
each timestep and how the agent interacts when it collides with other
agents. The ultimate goal of the system is to allow decentralized
simulations to be implemented quickly and easily while providing a
sophisticated set of object classes and libraries to facilitate the
construction of advanced artificial life simulations.
Changes: An experimental Python language bridge is now available. There
were also fixes related to Push language support and fixes for broken
demos.

[069] - Virt Install 0.100.0
by Daniel Berrange (http://freshmeat.net/users/danielpb/)
Tue, Jan 23rd 2007 04:15
System :: Systems Administration
About: Virt Install is a command line tool built on top of libvirt that
facilitates installation of virtual machines. It supports installation of
fully-virtualized Xen guest machines for arbitrary operating systems and
installation of Xen paravirtualized Fedora/RHEL operating systems. The
tool takes care of fetching the guest kernels, creating file based disk
images, and booting the guest operating system installer media.
Changes: This release included a major re-factoring to make use of the
libvirt inactive domain management APIs when provisioning guests. It also
tries to clean up many of the Xen-specific bits to facilitate future use
with the QEMU backend of libvirt. From a usability point of view, it also
now displays progress information when downloading the kernel and initrd
and when creating the filesystem images.

[070] - Virtual Machine Manager 0.3.0
by Daniel Berrange (http://freshmeat.net/users/danielpb/)
Tue, Jan 23rd 2007 03:32
System :: Systems Administration
About: The Virtual Machine Manager (virt-manager for short) is a desktop
application for managing virtual machines. Since it uses libvirt, it is
capable of managing machines from any hypervisor supported by libvirt. Xen
is the current primary target. The application's views provide summaries
and detailed statistics on performance and resource utilization. A wizard
facilitates creation of new guest domains, both para-virtualized and
fully-virtualized. Console access is enabled either to a text based serial
console or fully graphical access via an embedded VNC client.
Changes: This release brings a major functionality update, enabling of
inactive domain management. Thus the display of virtual machines will also
now list all guests which are in the 'shutoff' state. Such guests can be
started with the 'Run' button in the virtual console window. There have
also been a variety of other minor UI fixes and enhancements such as
progress bars during guest creation, reliability fixes to the virtual
console, and even greater coverage for translations.

[072] - Zero Install Injector 0.25
by Thomas Leonard (http://freshmeat.net/users/tal197/)
Tue, Jan 23rd 2007 14:44
Internet
Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
About: The Zero Install Injector makes it possible for users to install
software easily and without the need for root privileges. It takes the URL
of a program's interface description and chooses suitable versions of the
program and all of its dependencies (also identified by URLs) according to
the user's policy settings (eg. "stable", "testing", "minimal network use",
etc). The chosen versions are downloaded and cached and the program is run,
using environment variables to let it find the components.
Changes: Support for lzma archives was added. If run with sufficient
permission, downloads are now stored in the system cache rather than in
the user's cache. The preferences now have their own dialog box. Python
2.5 is now supported. Various minor bugs were fixed.
