[001] - actiWATE 1.0
by Vladimir Kornev (http://freshmeat.net/users/kvn/)
Wed, Jan 24th 2007 08:38
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
Software Development :: Testing
About: actiWATE (Actimind Web Application Testing Environment) is a
software platform intended to make the test automation process simple and
cost-effective. The major component of actiWATE is a Java-based framework
that emulates Internet browser functionality and provides a convenient and
intuitive action-based API for test script development. An automated test
in actiWATE is just a piece of Java code that uses the actiWATE API, so
this test can be executed through different tools (for example, JUnit test
runner). actiWATE collects testing information to log files and generates
test failure reports to simplify problem allocation and correction.
Changes: Support for AJAX technology was added. Handling of different
character sets was added. Support for data and connection timeouts was
added. actiWATE TWA now supports IE 7.0. The JavaScript support was
extended with DOM Attributes, the "Enumerator" object, dynamic creation
and loading of SCRIPT and IFRAME elements, and other improvements.

[019] - Hachoir core 0.7.2
by Haypo (http://freshmeat.net/users/haypo/)
Wed, Jan 24th 2007 04:55
Software Development :: Disassemblers
Utilities
About: Hachoir is a Python library used to represent a binary file as a
tree of Python objects. Each object has a type, a value, an address, etc.
The goal is to be able to know the meaning of each bit in a file. Hachoir
is able to open invalid or truncated files. It only reads or computes data
on demand to minimize load times. Many field types are predefined (integer,
bit, string, etc.) and strings with a given character set (such as
ISO-8859-1 or UTF-8) are supported. Addresses and sizes are stored in
bits.
Changes: The HACHOIR_ERRORS constant was created, and is a list of minor
errors that can be ignored. setup.py only uses setuptools when it's asked.
The "truncate" optional argument was added to GenericString. The
hexadecimal() text handler now accepts fields of any size. GenericInteger
now raises an error when field size is bigger than 256 bits.
humanDuration() was fixed for duration bigger than one year.

[020] - Hachoir metadata 0.8.2
by Haypo (http://freshmeat.net/users/haypo/)
Wed, Jan 24th 2007 04:42
Multimedia
About: Hachoir metadata can extract metadata from archives (bzip2, gzip,
zip, tar), audio (MPEG audio/MP3, WAV, Sun/NeXT audio, Ogg/Vorbis, MIDI,
AIFF, AIFC, Real Audio), images (BMP, CUR, EMF, ICO, GIF, JPEG, PCX, PNG,
TGA, TIFF, WMF, XCF), and video (ASF/WMV, AVI, Matroska, Quicktime,
Ogg/Theora, Real Media). It supports invalid or truncated files and
Unicode text. It can remove duplicate values. It can also filter metadata
according to priority.
Changes: Very long strings (more than 800 characters) are truncated.
setup.py uses distutils by default (and not setuptools). The package no
longer depends on hachoir-core nor hachoir-parser. Duration computation
for AIFF is skipped if rate is null. KeyError for XCF is now caught. For
JPEG (EXIF), exposure is only converted to "1/%g" if the value is a float.
The WAVE extractor was rewritten, thus fixing bit rate and duration
computation. WAVE files with 6 channels and the IEEE (32-bit float) codec
are supported. Division by zero in AVI duration computation is now
avoided. For Matroska, strings are converted to Unicode if needed.

[021] - Hachoir parser 0.8.1
by Haypo (http://freshmeat.net/users/haypo/)
Wed, Jan 24th 2007 05:16
About: Hachoir parser is a collection of parsers for the most common file
formats. It was written for the Hachoir framework. It can open archives
(7zip, bzip2, gzip, rpm, tar, unix_archive, zip), audio (aiff, itunesdb,
midi, mpeg_audio/mp3, real_audio, sun_next_snd), video (asf, flv, mov,
mpeg_ts, mpeg_video), audio/video containers (asn1, matroska, ogg/vorbis,
ogg/theora, real_media, riff/avi, riff/wav, swf), filesystems (ext2,
fat12, fat16, fat32, iso9660, linux_swap, msdos_harddrive, ntfs,
reiserfs), game data (lucasarts_font, spiderman_video, zsnes), images
(bmp, gif, ico, jpeg, pcx, png, psd, targa, tiff, wmf, xcf), programs
(elf, exe, java_class, python), and more.
Changes: setup.py was rewritten and uses distutils by default and doesn't
depend on hachoir-core. The ICO parser now supports Windows cursors.
Parsers are more fault tolerant since they use the new HACHOIR_ERRORS
constant, which lists minor errors to ignore. The magic string for gzip
was fixed. Useless exceptions for XCF were removed. The fourcc handler for
RIFF was fixed. For FAT, a ValueError is caught when using the string
index() method. For ASF, empty fields are not created, and validate()
checks the header's minimum size. For EXE, validate() checks size_mod_512
in the MSDOS header, and a method to compute the content size of an MSDOS
executable was added.

[022] - honeytrap 0.6.4
by Tillmann Werner (http://freshmeat.net/users/honeytrap/)
Wed, Jan 24th 2007 17:16
Security
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
About: Honeytrap is a network security tool written to observe attacks
against TCP services. As a low-interactive honeypot, it collects
information regarding known or unknown network-based attacks and thus can
provide early-warning information. The daemon monitors the network stream
for incoming connections and dynamically starts server processes if it
detects a request to an unbound port. Honeytrap can also be set up as a
meta honeypot that forwards several attacks to other systems or, in mirror
mode, redirects a connection back to the initiator. Several plugins are
available for automated attack analysis.
Changes: A PoC plugin for locality sensitive hashing. A clean solution for
giving packet control back to the kernel when using the ip_queue connection
monitor. A fix for a segfault in the bpf filter string assembling routine.
Failed mirror connections did not fall back to normal mode sometimes due
to incorrect return value handling for a non-blocking connect(). The
dynamic server code was redesigned. UDP support has been added.

About: JNutrix is a small application written with the Java language. You
can search and find more then 130 nutrient values, if they are recorded,
of over 5300 foods usually found on the Canadian market ( or 720 0+ foods
for the U.S.A. version ). The utilization is quite trivial and make use of
the mouse except for entering the name of the food. The name of the food
can be search for by entering the first characters or a few sets of
characters separated by spaces. Once the food is fou nd and its quantity
fixed the food can be cumulate to form a meal, which you can print. The
nutrients can be sorted by clicking on the column header. You can research
foods on their contents for three differents nutrients. The canadian version
of the program has a French or English interface as well as a bilingual
database, to the user to choose. The USA version use the latest database:

Education :: Testing
About: LON-CAPA (The LearningOnline Network with CAPA) is a learning
content and course management system. It offers an underlying shared
content pool from which instructors across departmental and institutional
boundaries can assemble granular learning content for their courses. It
has strong assessment capabilities, both formative (homework and in-class
using wireless PDAs) and summative (online and bubblesheet exams), with a
one-source multiple-target strategy for the content. It offers students
portfolio space in which they can stage materials for submission to
projects, and provides a number of tools for synchronous and asynchronous
student-student and student-faculty communication. LON-CAPA scales well
with number of students, as load-balancing is possible across the whole
network of servers at participating institutions.
Changes: Changes to the access permissions of portfolio files are more
quickly propagated throughout the system. For machines that host multiple
domains, coupling with central authentication systems can be configured on
a per-domain basis. For machines that permit single sign-on, the "Login
Again" link goes back to the appropriate page. Scheduled slots are again
properly checked. Encrypted URLs are respected everywhere. Issues with
resource titles that contain certain special characters were fixed in
statistics and resource assembly. Printouts do not contain spurious empty
pages.

[057] - samhain 2.3.1
by rainer (http://freshmeat.net/users/rainer/)
Wed, Jan 24th 2007 14:35
Security
About: samhain is a daemon that can check file integrity, search the file
tree for SUID files, and detect kernel module rootkits (Linux only). It
can be used either standalone or as a client/server system for centralized
monitoring, with strong (192-bit AES) encryption for client/server
connections and the option to store databases and configuration files on
the server. For tamper resistance, it supports signed
database/configuration files and signed reports/audit logs. It has been
tested on Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, and Unixware.
Changes: This release fixes a couple of bugs and compile problems. The
process checking module now reports the path and UID of hidden processes,
if possible.

Java/.NET libraries and frameworks can be used without glue code or
additional declarations.
Changes: This version fixes many compiler bugs and provides some language
and library changes.

[082] - wxRemind 0.7.4
by Dan Graham (http://freshmeat.net/users/dgraham/)
Wed, Jan 24th 2007 11:40
Information Management
Office/Business :: Scheduling
About: wxRemind is a wxPython-based front-end for Remind, a powerful
calendar and alarm application. Similar to the curses-based Wyrd, the
display features a calendar and daily event list suitable for visualizing
your schedule at a glance. Dates and associated events can be quickly
selected either with the mouse or cursor keys, and dates in the calendar
are color coded to reflect the total duration of scheduled events.
wxRemind provides an internal editor or integrates with an external editor
of your choice to make editing of reminder files more efficient, provides
hotkeys to quickly access the most common Remind options, and allows
popup, sound, and/or spoken alarms.
Changes: This release adds a days view showing the next 'n' days with
events starting from the selected date where 'n' is set in ~/.wxremindrc.
A locale bug has been fixed in which the locale's month abbreviation for,
say, December in Italian would be passed to remind as 'dic' and thus raise
a syntax error. Now all month abbreviations passed to remind are US
English. Displayed dates are still appropriate for the locale. The command
line interface to wxremdata and wxremalert has been improved. The output
from wxremdata is nicely formatted and suitable, for example, for use with
geektool.

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
About: XSD is a W3C XML Schema to C++ translator. Provided with an XML
instance specification (XML Schema), it generates C++ classes that
represent the given vocabulary as well as parsing and serialization code.
You can then access the data stored in XML using types and functions that
semantically correspond to your application domain rather than dealing
with elements, attributes, and text in a direct representation of XML such
as DOM or SAX. XSD features support for in-memory and stream-oriented
processing models, comprehensive XML Schema feature coverage, easy
integration, and more.
Changes: Customization of parsing constructors and serialization operators
has been implemented. Optimizations for the run-time memory consumption and
generated code size have been performed. Support has been added for Intel
C++ 9.1, IBM XL C++ 7.0, AIX on POWER/PowerPC, and GNU/Linux on IA-64. A

by Darvin (http://freshmeat.net/users/darvina/)
Wed, Jan 24th 2007 00:25
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: Yap (Yet Another Pager) is a PHP pager that supports row editing
and interactive search patterns. It has two view modes, table view and
detail view. The user or the referring script may specify the number of
rows to display. Add, modify, and delete operations may be permitted per
row. The modified data can be validated by a custom function prior to
being written back to the database. It works with Mysql and MS Access
(ODBC connection).
Changes: This release moves the code required to draw the filter form out
of the main class. The new MVC approach gives more flexibility to
customize the form layout. The new version also provides more input boxes
for building the row filters, such as date, range, or select box.
