[001] - Absolute OS 11.0.9
by Paul Sherman (http://freshmeat.net/users/psherma1/)
Mon, Jan 29th 2007 05:34
About: Absolute OS is a fast Slackware derivative Linux distribution that
uses a Icewm and ROX-Filer window/file manager combination. It comes with
Firefox, The GIMP, MPlayer, K3B, Azureus, Gaim, Frostwire, Gftp, StarDict,
and many other titles all set up and ready to run. Several utilities are
included to ease configuration and management. It is compatible with all
Slackware 11 packages and can be installed just like a Slackware disk,
except that any choice of packages is removed, as it just installs
everything.
Changes: Many changes were made. CD/DVD handling was vastly improved.
Frostwire was updated, so switching Java from the Blackdown version to the
Sun version was necessary. Firefox and its plugins were updated. Skype,
tuxmath, and eqonomize were added to the base install. The libGL.la file
necessary to compile KDE applications is now included. Patterns for GIMP
and two new fonts were added. Background services are more limited to
enhance performance.

About: Acceleo is a code generator designed to efficiently implement the
MDA approach and to improve software development productivity. It is
natively integrated with Eclipse and EMF. It includes tools and editors
making it easy to learn and to adapt to any kind of project or technology.
It provides incremental generation, meta-model interoperability, simple and
extensible syntax, template driven customisation, and more.
Changes: This release is under the EPL. A generation process can be
launched within an Ant task (experimental). There are new code indent
services. The launching chains (.chain) are now able to launch subchains
and may need parameters .

[003] - AntiVirus Scanner 1.3.1 (OpenSSL Debian)
by Tara Milana, Wolfpack Entertainment
(http://freshmeat.net/users/learfox/)
Mon, Jan 29th 2007 20:04
Security
About: AVScan is an anti-virus scanner that uses the ClamAV library
(libclamav). It allows you to create a list of scan items for frequently
scanned locations and features on-demand virus database updating, manual
drag and drop object scanning, and pausing and resuming of scanning, all
in a simple GUI environment.
Changes: Scan items are now checked for errors when they are edited. A bug
that made the Edit button sensitive when more than one item was selected
has been fixed. The new scanner options --cpu-priority and
--report-all-objects have been added. Scanner setting arguments are
accepted in both GUI and --scan modes. Scan logs are saved with additional
report information.

[004] - BusyBox 1.3.2
by Michael Opdenacker (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelo/)
Mon, Jan 29th 2007 06:18
Software Development :: Embedded Systems
System :: Boot :: Init
About: BusyBox combines tiny versions of many common UNIX utilities into a
single small executable. It provides minimalist replacements for most of
the utilities you usually find in GNU fileutils, shellutils, etc. The
utilities in BusyBox generally have fewer options than their full-featured
GNU cousins; however, the options that are included provide the expected
functionality and behave very much like their GNU counterparts. BusyBox
provides a fairly complete POSIX environment for any small or embedded
system.
Changes: This release has a CONFIG_DESKTOP option which enables features
needed for busybox usage on a desktop machine. For example, several less
frequently used options are enabled in find, chmod, and chown, and od is
significantly bigger but matches GNU coreutils. It is intended to
eventually make busybox a viable alternative for "standard" utilities for
slightly adventurous desktop users.

[021] - Mauve 2.0.0
by Aaron Darling (http://freshmeat.net/users/darling/)
Mon, Jan 29th 2007 00:11
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
About: Mauve constructs global multiple alignments of rearranged genome
sequences. It also provides an interactive display of multi-species
sequence conservation and any annotated features in those genomes. It can
be applied for sequence comparison of both finished or incomplete genomes
in multiple contigs. The resulting display is useful for identifying
functional chromosomal regions under selective pressure and for performing
ortholog assignment based on conserved gene order. Mauve writes global
alignments in eXtended Multi-FastA (XMFA) format, a phylogenetic guide
tree in Newick format, and the location of genomic islands. It identifies
the breakpoints of genomic rearrangement and can provide a reduction of
the genomes to a signed permutation matrix suitable for inference of
rearrangement history.
Changes: This release includes a new, accurate, and sensitive genome
alignment algorithm called progressiveMauve. Hundreds of genomes can now
be aligned, and rearranged segments conserved in subsets of the genomes
can be identified. A new annotation search can find features by things
like gene name and others.

[030] - pcapsipdump 0.1.2
by nording (http://freshmeat.net/users/nording/)
Mon, Jan 29th 2007 10:57
Communications :: Internet Phone
Software Development :: Quality Assurance
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
About: pcapsipdump is a tool for dumping (recording) SIP sessions (and RTP
traffic, if available) to disk in a fashion similar to "tcpdump -w" (the
format is exactly the same). The difference is that the data is saved with
one file per SIP session. Even if there are thousands of concurrect SIP
sessions, each goes to separate file.
Changes: This release adds basic command line options. It adds an optional
fork() call to pcapsipdump so that it runs as a daemon. An install target
has been added to the Makefile. A redhat directory has been added with a
Red Hat/CentOS/Fedora init script, a sysconfig script, an RPM spec file,
and README.txt.

[031] - PHP Date Picker Class 1.0.4
by Stefan Gabos (http://freshmeat.net/users/stefangabos/)
Mon, Jan 29th 2007 06:15
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: PHP Date Picker Class will automatically generate the required HTML
and JavaScript code that will make a pop-up window appear to let the user
choose a date from a calendar. The selected date will be passed to a
user-specified control from the calling page. Every aspect is customizable
by modifying a template and a related CSS file. The format in which the
date is returned, the default date and time period, and the first day of
the week can be selected.
Changes: The new selectableYearsRange property was added. Setting values
to this property will make the years show in a select box rather than
static text, enabling the user to quickly select a year from given ranges.
The new enableTimePicker property was added. Setting this to TRUE will let
users also select hours and minutes. The new selectableTimesRange property
was added. It is available only if enableTimePickersetting is set to TRUE.
Setting values to this property will let the users select hours and
minutes only from given ranges. A bug that prevented preselection of a
date was fixed. A Finnish language translation was added.

About: XINS is a technology used to define, create, and invoke remote
APIs. XINS is specification-oriented. When API specifications are written
(in XML), XINS will transform them to HTML-based documentation and Java
code for both the client-side and the server-side. The communication is
based on HTTP. XINS competes with the complex SOAP technology. Main design
goals include simplicity, scalability, and testability. XINS is not only a
specification technology, but also an application development framework.
It offers transaction logging, unique log documentation, and active code
generation.
Changes: Two new targets were added: one to convert XML Schema to type
files and one to convert WSDL to a XINS API. Two new APIs were added in
the example: one with a pure REST example and one implementing Web
Services using the scripting language Groovy. Also added in this release
was the _DisableAPI and _EnableAPI meta-functions, the shared error code,
and the possibility to skip a function call.
