[001] - Advanced Website Creator 1.7.0
  by Vesselin Atanasov (http://freshmeat.net/users/vesselin/)
  Tue, Feb 13th 2007 03:37

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Software Development

About: Advanced Website Creator is a Web development environment. Created
websites use an MVC framework written in PHP 5 and a simple database
abstraction layer. At present the database layer supports MySQL and
PostgreSQL as backends. All PHP classes are auto-loaded, so there is no
need to include() or require() files manually. Search engine friendly URLs
are supported via mod_rewrite.

Changes: A new feature has been added - if you have an external encoder
with support for expiry dates you can configure expiry periods/dates for
encoded projects. You can now specify all database settings upon project
creation. A bug that could cause a crash when editing project database
settings was fixed.

[003] - Ascii2Binary 2.13
  by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
  Tue, Feb 13th 2007 01:00

Utilities

About: The Ascii2Binary project consists of two complementary programs
that convert between textual and binary representations of numbers.
Ascii2Binary reads input consisting of textual representations of numbers
separated by whitespace and produces as output the binary equivalents. It
is useful for generating test data and linking programs that generate
textual output to programs that require binary input. Binary2Ascii
converts binary numbers to text. In both programs, the type and
size/precision of the input or output is selected using command line
flags.

Changes: The information provided by the -s flag about the machine has
been reformatted and now includes the extreme values for each type.
Information about wchar_t has been added.

Utilities

About: Clam AntiVirus is an anti-virus toolkit for Unix. The main purpose
of this software is the integration with mail servers (attachment
scanning). The package provides a flexible and scalable multi-threaded
daemon, a commandline scanner, and a tool for automatic updating via
Internet. The programs are based on a shared library distributed with the
Clam AntiVirus package, which you can use in your own software.

Changes: The 0.9x series introduces many improvements in terms of
detection rate and performance, like support for many new packers and
decryptors, RAR3 and SIS archives, and a new phishing signature format
that proves to be very effective. To cope with the increasing size of the
database and with the high frequency of new CVD releases, freshclam now
supports scripted updates. The new experimental code can be tested by
using "./configure --enable-experimental" at compile time. Email decoding
has been improved to reduce both the memory requirements and the time
taken to process attachments.

[014] - DB Solo 2.0.2
  by DB Solo (http://freshmeat.net/users/mhantula/)
  Tue, Feb 13th 2007 07:31

Database :: Front-Ends
System :: Systems Administration

About: DB Solo is a powerful database development and management tool for
developers and DBAs. It has an intuitive user interface that allows you to
explore and manage your database objects as well as execute ad-hoc queries.
It supports Oracle, MySQL, Sybase, DB2, Solid, PostgreSQL, and MS SQL
Server. In addition to viewing and managing objects such as schemas,
tables, indexes, views, tablespaces, users, roles, sessions, and stored
procedures, you can view, edit, print, and export data from tables or the
results of queries. You can also graphically view foreign key
relationships.

Changes: This release adds support for DB2 version 9.1. The schema
comparison tool can now produce a diff-style output when comparing the
source code of a function or stored procedure.

[015] - DBIx::Perlish 0.14
  by Grrrr (http://freshmeat.net/users/Grrrr/)
  Tue, Feb 13th 2007 11:51

About: The DBIx::Perlish module provides the ability to work with
databases supported by the DBI module using Perl's own syntax for the four
most common operations: SELECT, UPDATE, DELETE, and INSERT. By using
DBIx::Perlish, you can write most of your database queries using a
domain-specific language with Perl syntax. However, the module is not
intended to replace all use of SQL in your program. The DBIx::Perlish
module quite intentionally neither implements nor cares about database
administration tasks like schema design and management.

Changes: This release adds post-if parse-time simple conditionals,
interpolation of scalars in regular expresions, special handling of
sysdate() in Oracle, verbatim sql() in inserts, verbatim sql() in query
subs, and support for expressions in return statements.

[019] - Extended Python Debugger 1.21
  by R. Bernstein (http://freshmeat.net/users/rocky/)
  Tue, Feb 13th 2007 07:36

Software Development :: Debuggers

About: Extended Python Debugger is a more complete debugger for Python
than the stock pdb.py debugger. It supports a "restart" command,
non-interactive POSIX-like line tracing, command options, disassembly of
instructions, and stack traces that give better information for exec
statements. Stepping/nexting skips over method/function "defs". It tries
to follow gdb's command set unless there is good reason not to.

Changes: This release adds a number of small usability enhancements,
including improvements to command completion, getting help via pydoc,
search-path lookup of Python executables, and showing thread information
without an explicit thread debugging request. Python version 2.4.0 or
greater is now required.

[020] - Firewall Builder 2.1.9
  by Vadim Kurland (http://freshmeat.net/users/vkurland/)
  Tue, Feb 13th 2007 14:10

System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Firewall Builder consists of a GUI and set of policy compilers for
various firewall platforms. It helps users maintain a database of objects
and allows policy editing using simple drag-and-drop operations. The GUI
and policy compilers are completely independent, which provides for a
consistent abstract model and the same GUI for different firewall
platforms. It currently supports iptables, ipfilter, ipfw, OpenBSD pf,
Cisco PIX, and FWSM.

Changes: Several bugs have been fixed in the GUI and policy compiler for
iptables. The compiler is more tolerant while processing an Address Table
object with an empty address file, or with a file with empty lines. The
ability to emulate terminating behavior for rules with the actions
Classify and Tag, and improved shadowing detection for these rules, have
been added to the compiler for iptables. A function to compare two data
files and find conflicting objects has been added.

  Tue, Feb 13th 2007 16:37

Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries :: Ruby Modules

About: FlexiRecord is a Ruby library for object-oriented access to
databases. Each table is represented by a class, and each row of that
table is represented by an object of that class. This library is
especially aimed to properly support database transactions. Currently,
only PostgreSQL (version 8.2 or higher) is supported as a backend. The
library is mostly untested.

Changes: The FlexiRecord::BaseRecord#transaction method has been added. A
bug in the module for ordered records (ListRecord) was fixed. Table
references may now be specified without registering accessor methods in
both respective Ruby classes.

Database :: API
Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Internet

About: GeoServer connects your information to the Geospatial Web. With
GeoServer, you can publish and edit data using open standards. Your
information is made available in a large variety of formats as maps/images
or actual geospatial data. GeoServer's transactional capabilities offer
robust support for shared editing. It supports WFS-T and WMS open
protocols from the OGC to produce JPEG, PNG, SVG, KML/KMZ, GML, PDF,
Shapefiles, and more. It is built on the GeoTools2 Java GIS toolkit.

Changes: The main feature of 1.5 is support for ‘raster’ formats, like
geotiff, arcgrid, gtopo30, and more. These are accessible not just through
the WMS, but also through the new Web Coverage Service (WCS) interface.
This is the first attempt at a stable release, as it passes all CITE
compliance tests for WMS, WFS, and WCS. There are fixes to run without JAI
installed, and fixes to allow backwards compatibility with configurations
from 1.3 and 1.4.

[028] - Japanese Vocabulary 0.6
  by Andrew Young (http://freshmeat.net/users/vaelen_org/)
  Tue, Feb 13th 2007 23:34

Education :: Computer Aided Instruction (CAI)

About: Japanese Vocabulary is an application for studying Japanese
vocabulary. It consists of a set of cards, each with the kanji spelling,
kana reading, and the meaning in English (or another language). It uses
the Leitner system for managing the cards, which means that you see the
cards you know well less often than you see the ones that you don't know
very well. This allows the learner to focus on learning those words with
which they are having trouble. It comes with the JLPT 2, 3, and 4
vocabulary lists.

Changes: Several stability enhancements were made. The way that cards are
chosen was cleaned up. The ability to set which piece of data (kanji,
kana, or meaning) gets shown by default when a new card is shown was
added.

[037] - MLdonkey 2.8.3
  by spiralvoice (http://freshmeat.net/users/spiralvoice/)
  Tue, Feb 13th 2007 11:28

Communications :: File Sharing

About: MLdonkey is a multi-platform, multi-network peer-to-peer client. It
supports several large networks such as eDonkey, Overnet, Kademlia,
Bittorrent, Gnutella (Bearshare, Limewire, etc.), Gnutella2 (Shareaza), or
Fasttrack (Kazaa, Imesh, Grobster). Networks can be enabled or disabled.
Searches are performed in parallel on all enabled networks. For some
networks, each file can be downloaded from multiple clients concurrently.

Changes: This release brings some new features to the EDK module. It can
upload/download files over 4GB, and supports compressed upload. A major
EDK upload bug was fixed where eMules rotating block requests were
incorrectly interpreted, which led to sending nearly all blocks twice.
MLDonkey now optionally supports uploading full chunks (9.728.000 byte) to
improve spreading of files. Some bugfixes have been made in multi-user
support; this feature can now be assumed stable. Some logging updates and
command parameter extensions have been made.

Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: Mr. Persister is a POJO persistence API for Java. The main focus of
Mr. Persister is to handle all the trivial JDBC work, and leave the
non-trivial parts up to you. It uses plain SQL as the query language, it
can auto-map objects to the database, and it can generate SQL for a lot of
trivial tasks by itself (such as insert, update, and delete). Mr. Persister
also has support for easy batch updates of collections of objects,
connection and transaction handling, and many other features.

Changes: This version enables the mapping of Java boolean types to numeric
database types (Oracle doesn't have a boolean type). It also fixes the
"isBooleanProperty" bug, so these getters are now recognized. A few extra
factory methods were also added to make it easier to signal auto-generated

[054] - Ragel State Machine Compiler 5.18
  by Adrian Thurston (http://freshmeat.net/users/age/)
  Tue, Feb 13th 2007 17:35

Software Development :: Code Generators

About: Ragel compiles finite state machines from regular languages into C,
C++, Objective-C, or D code. It allows the programmer to embed actions at
any point in a regular language, and to control non-determinism in the
resulting machines. It understands concatenation, union, kleene star,
subtraction, intersection, epsilon transitions, and various other common
operators. It also supports the construction of scanners and the building
of state machines using state charts. It can be used to create very fast
recognizers and parsers that are also robust.

Changes: The state machine IDs are now generated in the front end program.
The result is that state machine IDs are identical across the intermediate
format, the graphviz output, and the generated code. The backend program
was reorganized and split into several executables, with functions grouped
by similarity. Experimental Ruby code generation was added. A problem with
large machines in Java was fixed. Several parsing bugs were fixed.

  Tue, Feb 13th 2007 12:15

Information Management :: Document Repositories
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
Software Development :: User Interfaces

About: Stunnix Advanced Web Server is a Web server for putting Web sites
onto CDROMs, DVDs, FlashDisks, and other readonly media to be used on any
typical system. Sites can be scripted with PHP or Perl and can be driven
by MySQL or SQLite databases. All required software programs are designed
to reside on the CDROM to avoid the need to install software on the user's
computer. The Web serving core is based on Apache 1.3.x, and has additional
functionality to detect and use free ports, automatically start a browser
on each platform, and to stop the Web server once a resource with a
special name is visited. Desktop applications can also be created with it.

Changes: This release adds support for running Python and mod_python-based
Web sites off CD-ROM. MySQL and SQLite python extensions have been added
for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.

designed for MP3, it works for any media format that can stream over HTTP

music collections (many thousand albums). It uses a combination of
directory structure and tag parsing to organize the music.

Changes: This release adds audioscrobbling support, ogg tag editing, and
support for cover art images embedded in ID3 tags. A Dutch translation is
now included. There are also some important bugfixes, most notably related
to directory names with non-Latin characters.

Software Development :: Testing

About: Testilence is a unit-testing library for programs written in PHP 5.

Testilence is written with an emphasis on what's useful, not what's usual.
That said, most clever ways of doing useful things for unit test authors
and users have already been discovered. Testilence combines original ideas
with the best features found in different unit-testing toolkits into a
coherent set.

Changes: Continuing effort to reduce repetitive code in the test suite.
Documentation has been expanded. Testilence is now tested and known to
work with all versions of PHP since 5.1.3 inclusive.

[069] - Ultimate++ 2007.2rc1
  by Daniel Kos (http://freshmeat.net/users/unodgs/)
  Tue, Feb 13th 2007 16:30

Software Development
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Debuggers

About: Ultimate++ is a cross-platform C++ rapid application development
suite. It includes set of libraries (for things like GUI and SQL) and an
integrated development environment. Rapid development is achieved by smart
and aggressive use of C++ rather than through fancy code generators. In
this respect, U++ competes with popular scripting languages while
preserving C/C++ runtime characteristics. Its integrated development
environment, TheIDE, introduces modular conception to C++ programming, and
can be used to develop non-U++ applications.

Changes: A "Chameleon" skinning system that allows both native look and
feel of U++ applications across platforms and custom skins to be
designed/used. GTK is used on X11 platforms. The raster image
infrastructure has been completely reworked. New useful widgets: GridCtrl,
CalendarCtrl, and DateTimeCtrl. Experimental PocketPC support. A library
fix to support ARM and PowerPC CPUs. A lot of new documentation and
tutorials. A new Icon designer (supports alpha channel). Features missing
in X11 have been implemented (PDF export, printing, a tray icon, and OGL
support). Many minor improvements and bugfixes.
