Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules
About: Albatross is a small and flexible toolkit for developing highly
stateful Web applications. It provides browser-based sessions via
automatically-generated hidden form fields, server side sessions via a
session server or file-based session store, a powerful and extensible
templating system which promotes separation of presentation and
implementation for improved program maintainability, implicit handling for
pagination of sequences and tree browsing, template macros to allow
repeated HTML and special effects HTML to be defined in one location, and
lookup tables to translate Python values to arbitrary template code.
Applications can be deployed as either CGI programs or as mod_python
module with minor changes to program mainline. Custom deployment can be
achieved by developing your own Request class.
Changes: Improvements and fixes were made to <al-for>, <al-macro>,
<al-option>, NameRecorderMixin, and the FastCGI driver.

Database :: Front-Ends
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development
About: Velocity is a Java-based template engine. It permits anyone to use
the simple yet powerful template language to reference objects defined in
Java code. When Velocity is used for Web development, Web designers can
work in parallel with Java programmers to develop Web sites according to
the Model-View-Controller (MVC) model, meaning that Web page designers can
focus solely on creating a site that looks good, and programmers can focus
solely on writing top-notch code. Velocity separates Java code from the
Web pages, making the web site more maintainable over the long run and
providing a viable alternative to Java Server Pages (JSPs) or PHP.
Velocity also provides template services for the Turbine Web application
framework, making a template service that allows Web applications to be
developed according to a true MVC model.
Changes: Improved syntax with new capability for decimal numbers, literal
map definitions, multi-line statements, and support for automatic escaping
of HTML and other special entities. New capabilities to aid integration
with other applications and Web frameworks, including enhanced error
reporting, a new logging subsystem, and a switch to unchecked instead of
checked exceptions.

Mon, Mar 19th 2007 08:38
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Office/Business
About: The Big Faceless PDF Library is a Java class library for creating
PDF documents. The Extended Edition offers the ability to create and edit
AcroForms, PDF's answer to the HTML form. Like HTML forms, PDF forms can
contain text boxes, radio buttons, and can call JavaScript functions. The
Extended Edition also includes a PDF reader for importing and editing,
along with FDF support, verification for digital signatures and text
extraction. Both variations offer full Unicode support, encryption,
embedded TrueType and Type1 fonts, barcodes, hyperlinks, and spot and
calibrated color.
Changes: The viewer was enhanced to add the beginnings of mouse
interaction with the document. EventHandler and its subclass
DefaultEventHandler were added, which handle mouse clicks on hyperlinks
throughout the document. Improvements were made to the PageExtractor
class: text which was previously extracted as individual letters or
smaller groups are now reassembled, where possible, into longer phrases.
Support was added for dot/dash patterns via the new PDFStyle.setLineDash()
method. Support was added for JBIG2 image decoding via the external
"jbig2dec" tool.

[007] - Bitgate Server Software Environment 0.3.2
by Ken Hollis (http://freshmeat.net/users/Tsuichi1/)
Mon, Mar 19th 2007 22:32
Internet
About: Bitgate Server Software Environment aims to build a multi-protocol
environment in which server protocol handlers can be eventually loaded and
unloaded on the fly using a center console or controller Web page. It aims
to have 99.9% uptime, and have high-availability (Java 6) compliance. It
is written in Java 5, and relies completely on Java's I/O functionality to
provide non-blocking support for both SSL and non-SSL sockets
(transparently). All configuration is done via XML files, as this is
easier to maintain. It includes a minimal demonstration HTTP server.
Changes: Changes in this release include updates to the Clustering
functionality of the code, improved stability in other parts of the code,
and referencing of clustering objects in the protocol code by name. A
heartbeat detection script was added to Clustering as well as host
entries. The Clustering code was updated to contain a more useful set of
interface members. ClusterInterface was combined with the Clusterable
object for easier use in the dynaloaded code.

Communications :: Conferencing
Desktop Environment :: Tools
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Capture/Recording
About: Boxtream is both an audio and video encoder and streamer and an
assembly of audio and video hardware, forming a mobile video streaming
studio. It is designed to easily record and stream live presentations
including a presenter and synchronized slides, or slides only, or
presenter only, and was built to stream live courses over the Internet for
distance learning students. It supports Extron video switchers (Kramer
support is planned). It can be entirely controlled remotely over XML-RPC,
and includes an X11 interface built with wxWidgets. It supports five
different streaming scenarios. The software can still be used without most
of the hardware included in the original boxtream project.
Changes: An input field was added to the GUI to ask for a mandatory
copyright message which will be used during the video fade-in and also
during the video-fadeout if no video title was defined. The copyright
message is also saved into the recording's XML description file. The GUI's
status bar now displays the encoding backend's available disk space and
estimated available recording duration based on the recording's hard disk
bandwidth. A dump of the English help for the backend and frontend was
added to the current Web site.

[024] - Enhanced TightVNC Viewer 1.0.13
by Karl Runge (http://freshmeat.net/users/runge/)
Mon, Mar 19th 2007 08:52
Desktop Environment :: Tools
About: The Enhanced TightVNC Viewer package is part of the x11vnc VNC
server project. It provides a native VNC viewer that takes advantage of
new features in x11vnc, e.g. cursor alpha blending and automatic SSL
tunnelling. Some features apply to any VNC server, e.g. automatic SSH
tunnelling. Another goal is to provide a package that conveniently bundles
everything needed for the user to have the enhanced viewer running quickly.
This includes pre-built binaries of the viewer and utility programs for
Windows and many Unix variants, and a GUI to configure and launch the
viewer. The short name for this project is "ssvnc", for SSL/SSH VNC
viewer.

[027] - FFTW 3.2-alpha2 (Development)
by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
Mon, Mar 19th 2007 22:13
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Software Development :: Libraries
About: FFTW is a fast C FFT library. It includes complex, real, symmetric,
multidimensional, and parallel transforms, and can handle arbitrary array
sizes efficiently.It is typically faster than other freely available FFT
implementations, and is even competitive with vendor-tuned libraries
(benchmarks are available at the homepage). To achieve this performance,
it uses novel code generation and runtime self optimization techniques
(along with many other tricks).
Changes: Support for the Cell processor was added along with a 64-bit API,
experimental MPI support, and support for MIPS paired-single SIMD
instructions. r2c transforms and multi-threading were accelerated. A
return value bug in the Fortran interface for dfftw_init_threads was
fixed. G77 wrappers are now optional if gfortran is detected.

Scientific/Engineering :: Chemistry
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
About: Fityk is nonlinear curve-fitting and data analysis software. It
allows data visualization, separation of overlapping peaks, and least
squares fitting using standard Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm, a genetic
algorithm, or Nelder-Mead simplex method. It knows about many functions
(mostly bell-shaped, like Gaussian, Loretzian, Pearson 7, Voigt,
Pseudo-Voigt, and Doniach-Sunjic) and user-defined functions can be easily
added. It also enables background substracting, data calibration, and task
automation with a simple script language. It is being developed to analyze
powder diffraction patterns, but is also used in chromatography,
photoluminescence, infrared, and Raman spectroscopy, and can be used to
fit analytical functions to any kind of data. The most similar program to
Fityk is probably PeakFit.

About: fuselagefs consists of a C++ wrapper class for FUSE called
Fuselagefs, as well as Delegatefs, which is a Fuselagefs subclass that
delegates all operations to an underlying base filesystem. With
Delegatefs, you can expose dir1 at mountpoint dir2 very easily as a FUSE

little extra functionality to the delegation operation but rely on the
parent class to perform the work and return errors to FUSE in an
appropriate manner. An example subclass is petardfs.

About: NoMachine NX is a fast terminal server system based on the X11
protocol. In addition, NX also translates and embeds the MS Windows
Terminal Server and VNC protocols into X/NX. NX is an order of magnitude
faster than VNC or X11 and can run on bandwidth as narrow as 10 kBit/sec.
By embedding RDP and RFB, it enables users to compress and accelerate
remote Windows and VNC sessions. NX lets you work fluently even across
slow links like modems. The NX project provides a suite of libraries and
X11 proxying agents implementing efficient compression and optimized
transport of X11, SMB, IPP, HTTP, and arbitrary protocols like audio over
the Internet.
Changes: This package provides the latest available version of the NX
Client software, namely nxclient-2.1.0-17.

by Vincent Deffontaines (http://freshmeat.net/users/gryzor/)
Mon, Mar 19th 2007 08:38
Security
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: Nuface is a Web-based administration tool that generates Edenwall,
NuFW, or simple Netfilter firewall rules. It features a high level
abstraction on the security policy set by the administrator, and works
internally on an XML data scheme. Its philosophy is to let you agglomerate
subjects, resources, or protocols into meta-objects, and use those meta
objects to generate ACLs, which are then interpreted as netfilter rules by
Nupyf, the internal XML parser. This tool may easily be extended to support
firewall implementations other than Netfilter.
Changes: This release fixes a bug when a network containing the default
gateway is included in another network. Man pages have been added.
Packaging errors have been fixed.

About: Nulog is a PHP interface for the MySQL plugin for the ulogd
netfilter log daemon and for NuFW SQL logging (optional). It displays
hosts (or users) that recently broke packets on your firewall and the last
ports that were probed. A simple search function allows packets to be
searched by host or by a given port. Nulog was formerly known as
ulogd-php.
Changes: This release enhances the display by using a three column
display. It also calculates the load average by counting NuFW and non-NuFW
dropped packets.

[069] - petardfs 0.0.2
by Ben Martin (http://freshmeat.net/users/monkeyiq/)
Mon, Mar 19th 2007 10:26
Software Development :: Quality Assurance
System :: Filesystems
About: petardfs is a FUSE filesystem designed to hoist your applications
with errors. With no configuration, petardfs takes a base filesystem and
exposes it through FUSE. An XML configuration file is used to tell
petardfs which files to report errors for and what error code to use. For
example, foo.txt can have an EIO error at bytes 34 to 37. There is
explicit support for errors such as EAGAIN and EINTR, where petardfs will
only report such transient errors a nominated number of times. This is
handy for testing applications that support such I/O conditions
gracefully.
Changes: Petardfs is now a subclass of fuselagefs. Much filesystem
delegating code has now been moved to libfuselagefs.

About: PrimeBase XT (PBXT) is a transactional storage engine for MySQL. It
uses a unique "write-once" update strategy and MVCC (multi-version
concurrency control) to provide optimal performance over a wide range of

Changes: A bug that caused PBXT to corrupt the index file when the size
exceeded 4 GB has been fixed. This release runs under Windows. This source
tree must be placed in the MySQL source storage directory in order to
compile. Further details of how to build are in the windows-readme.txt

by Thomas Mertes (http://freshmeat.net/users/thomas_mertes/)
Mon, Mar 19th 2007 14:51
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters
About: Seed7 is a general purpose programming language. It is a higher
level language compared to Ada, C++, and Java. In Seed7, new statements
and operators can be declared easily. Functions with type results and type
parameters are more elegant than a template or generics concept. Object
orientation is used when it brings advantages and not in places when other
solutions are more obvious. Although Seed7 contains several concepts of
other programming languages, it is generally not considered as a direct
descendant of any other programming language.
Changes: The interpreter was changed to execute programs only when they
have no errors. The option -x, to execute programs even when they have
errors, was added to the interpreter. The *:= operator for the types
integer, float, bigInteger, and bigRational was added. The chkbig.sd7
program was improved to check the *:= operator for big integers. The
compiler was improved to support the *:= operator and the arr_cat action.
Several improvements for compile time error messages were made. The
err.sd7 example program, which checks compile time error messages, was
improved.

spamdyke does not require patching or recompiling qmail.
Changes: The sender/recipient blacklists now support blocking entire
domains by prefixing the line with "

support blocking IP ranges by ending the line with ".". The rDNS whitelist
now supports blocking subdomains by prefixing the line with ".". Multiple

About: white_dune is a graphical VRML97 editor, simple NURBS/Superformula
3D modeller and animation tool. VRML97 (Virtual Reality Modeling Language)
is the ISO standard for displaying 3D data over the Web via browser plugins
("HTML for realtime 3D"). It has support for animation, real-time
interaction, and multimedia (images, movies, and sounds). white_dune can
read, create and display VRML97 files and let the user change the
scenegraph/fields. It also has support for stereoscopic view via

[092] - WidgetServer 1.4.5
by Dirk von der Weiden (http://freshmeat.net/users/dvdw/)

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: WidgetServer is a Java/XML server-side GUI-framework which enables
an application to run as either a monolithic Swing app, a client/server
Swing app, or as a Web app without any change and without loss of
functionality. A rich widget set is supported that includes tree views,
tabbed panes, split panels, and much more. A unified widget-based,
object-oriented programming interface for Web and Swing GUIs is offered to
the developer to control and assemble the GUI. Web applications are fully
AJAX enabled. For Swing client/server applications, the framework handles
client/server communication, including compression and security layers. A
GUI builder is included.
Changes: This version brings better AJAX integration, since full rendering
is no longer needed for particular operations. Mapping events are generated
each time a component value is changed from the UI side. Better
documentation of event handling has been added.

Mon, Mar 19th 2007 09:51
Desktop Environment :: File Managers
About: Worker is a file manager for the X Window System with the classical
two panel interface. It features a fully graphical configuration, while
still allowing manual editing of the configuration file without the need
to restart Worker. Any external program can be integrated easily into the
GUI using buttons, hotkeys, and file type actions. Worker uses file
recognition by file content or by filename extension (or both). Different
actions with completely configurable commands can be assigned to each file
type.
Changes: The list view is now filtered to only show matching entries when
using the "search entry" function. Some minor problems in the search
command were fixed. A new Slovak translation is available.
