by Josh Kearney (http://freshmeat.net/users/jk0/)
Mon, May 7th 2007 12:52
About: Audacious Announcer is a complete rewrite of XMMS Announcer: a
simple utility that neatly prints the current track playing in Audacious
(and even XMMS). It has optional command line arguments that allow for
more detailed information about the track, along with the ability to copy

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
About: DBSight is a J2EE search platform for rapidly developing search
engines on any relational database, for both beginners and experts. It's
scalable, easy to create, and fast to search. It features a built-in
database crawler following user-defined SQL, incremental indexing,
user-controllable result ranking, the ability to return results with
highlights (like Google), and categorized result counts (like Amazon). It
can easily integrate with a non-Java environment with XML/JSON. There is a
UI for all operations, so no Java coding is necessary.
Changes: Synonyms were added. Multiple keywords were added, with support
for displaying a tag cloud in search results. Jruby support for indexing
was added. Faster adding indexes is always used without merging. Bulk
deleting of old documents is much faster. Copying in a Linux environment
is faster. Deleted documents are discovered with efficient use of memory.
JDK was upgraded to 1.5. The query parser was fixed: the analyzer was
applied twice. An index file uploading error from Windows to Linux systems
was fixed.

Information Management :: Workflow Frameworks
About: Jitterbit is an integration tool for designing, configuring,
testing, and deploying integration solutions. It supports many document
types and most standards-based protocols, including XML, Web Services,
popular databases, text files, FTP, HTTP, and others. The integration
server runs on both Windows and Linux and is configured using a Java-based
user interface that is designed to make integration quick, easy, and
intuitive to complete. With the UI, users can define their integration
operations from start to finish: adding source and target systems, using
drag-and-drop mapping to transform data, setting schedules, creating
success/failure events, and tracking all of their deployed integration
operations.
Changes: Plug-ins allow users to customize their solutions by easily
adding new functionality to Jitterbit to meet their individual needs, such

System :: Logging
About: log4sh is a logging framework for shell scripts that works similar
to the other wonderful logging products available from the Apache Software
Foundation (e.g. log4j, log4perl). Although not as powerful as the others,
it can make the task of adding advanced logging to a shell script easier,
and has much more power than just using simple "echo" commands throughout.
In addition, it can be configured from a properties file so that scripts in
a production environment do not need to be altered to change the amount of
logging they produce.

[042] - MeTA1 1.0.PreAlpha16.0
by Claus Assmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/casmx/)
Mon, May 7th 2007 21:49
About: MeTA1 is a modularized message transfer agent (MTA) consisting of
five (or more) persistent processes, four of which are multi-threaded. A
queue manager controls SMTP servers and SMTP clients to receive and send
email messages, an address resolver provides lookups in various maps
(including DNS) for mail routing, and a main control program starts the
other processes and watches over their execution. The queue manager
organizes the flow of messages through the system and provides measures to
avoid overloading the local or remote systems by implementing a central
control instance. It is simple to configure using a C-like syntax and is
secure and efficient.
Changes: A session in the SMTP server can now be (partially) configured
via an entry in the access map by a value which follows the normal
configuration syntax. For now this is used to specify TLS related
requirements, e.g., to allow only verified connections from some clients,
however, this will be extended in later versions.

[045] - mylvmbackup 0.5
by Lenz Grimmer (http://freshmeat.net/users/LenZ/)
Mon, May 7th 2007 07:32
Database
System :: Archiving :: Backup
Utilities
About: mylvmbackup is a Perl script for quickly creating backups of a
MySQL server's data files. To perform a backup, mylvmbackup obtains a read
lock on all tables and flushes all server caches to disk, makes an LVM
snapshot of the volume containing the MySQL data directory, and unlocks
the tables again. The snapshot process takes only a small amount of time.
When it is done, the server can continue normal operations while the
actual file backup proceeds.
Changes: The "--innodb-recover" option was added, which provides an option
to run InnoDB recovery on LVM2 snapshots (which provide write access to the
device) prior to creating the backup archive. This speeds up resuming a
MySQL instance from a restored backup. A bug with the default value
handling for command line options was fixed. In version 0.4, if a config
file was specified, default values in the script were all changed to
blank. This means that the config file had to supply values for every
variable instead of just the values that need to be changed from default.

Database :: Front-Ends
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: PM Report is a PHP/MySQL report generator. It creates customizable
reports and is very simple to setup and use. You can select which
database, table, and individual fields to use on your report. You can also

[053] - POMStrap 1.0.7
by Alag (http://freshmeat.net/users/Alag/)
Mon, May 7th 2007 07:38
Software Development :: Build Tools
About: POMStrap is a really simple Java application bootstrap and
classloader trick that allows dependency "classloading" without side
effect. POMStrap uses Maven2 pom files to resolve dependencies required to
launch an application. For example, if your application depends on A-1.0
(and can only work with this version) and B-1.0; and if B-1.0 also depends
on A-2.0, then B-1.0's dependency won't normally be able to be satisfied
without violating another one of your application's dependencies. POMStrap
avoids this kind of dependency conflict.
Changes: This release fixes a bug in the resource loader and remote
repository definition. POMStrap has now been successfully used in a
different production environment and this release can be considered as
gold.

with an internal search path array. The 'hi' interpreter now contains a
hardcoded include directory path defined in version.h. The makefiles
mk_mingw.mak, mk_msys.mak, and mk_nmake.mak were added for compilation
under MinGW. The bigInteger multiplication was changed to use Karatsuba
multiplication for bigger integers. Several constant types were defined in
common.h.

[063] - ServerKit 0.0.12
by swivel (http://freshmeat.net/users/swivel/)
Mon, May 7th 2007 12:10
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: ServerKit helps developers quickly build efficient, scalable, and
uniformly configured, installed, and executed server programs (commonly
known as daemons) for Linux. A core server program handles configuration
parsing, database connection pool creation, and switching of users.
Application-specific shared object modules are loaded at runtime and
access the configuration data and database connection pools via simple
well-defined interfaces. A library that provides the server program with
most of its functionality, in addition to implementing a rich API for
quick module development, is included. The API includes abstraction of
thread pools, delayed work management using epoll, database connection
pools and querying, logging, queues, and heaps.
Changes: This release adds a parse tree implementation for fast parsing of
common things like POP3, SMTP, or file parsing like /proc/meminfo on
GNU/Linux. The API reference has been updated to include this new
libserver functionality.

Software Development :: Debuggers
System :: Monitoring
About: TDA (Thread Dump Analyzer) is a small Swing GUI for analyzing
thread dumps generated by the Sun Java VM. It has been tested with
1.4.2_x, 1.5.0_x, and 1.6.0_x releases. It provides statistics, gives
information about locked monitors and waiting threads, can diff between
threads to look for similarities, and has "long running thread" detection.
Changes: The threads display may be filtered to ignore things such as idle
threads. The GUI layout was improved for better navigation with a three
pane view instead of two. Parsing of thread dumps is now supported for JDK
1.5 and 1.6. Opened Logfiles can be closed now. The help was reworked.
Links in the help now open in an external browser. A forum link was added
to the help menu. The GUI was improved with better native integration.
Webstart deployment was added for easy installation. Some font hacks were
done to use GTK as the native L&F on Linux and JDK 1.6. Bugs were fixed.

Software Development :: Embedded Systems
Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Operating System
About: uClibc (µClibc) is a C library for developing embedded Linux
systems. It is much smaller then the GNU C Library, but nearly all
applications supported by glibc also work perfectly with uClibc. Porting
applications from glibc to uClibc typically involves just recompiling the
source code. uClibc even supports shared libraries and threading. It
currently runs on standard Linux and MMU-less Linux (also known as
µClinux) systems with support for ARM, i386, h8300, m68k, MIPS, mipsel,
PowerPC, SH, SPARC, and v850 processors.
Changes: This release is the first stable one in the new 0.9.29
development branch. It is supposed to be binary compatible with 0.9.28,
though extensive testing is still needed.
