About: Ardour is a professional multitrack/multichannel audio recorder and
DAW for Linux, using ALSA-supported audio interfaces. It supports up to 32
bit samples, 24+ channels at up to 96kHz, full MMC control, a
non-destructive, non-linear editor, and LADSPA plugins.
Changes: A crash bug was fixed when loading a new session into an existing
Ardour instance. A crash bug, occuring when using Ctrl-drag to copy
regions, was fixed. A naming-related issue when adding multiple busses at
the same time was fixed. On Mac OS X, explicit checks are made for X11 and
JACK, and if they are missing a dialog is posted before exiting. "Black
blocks" in text were fixed on Mac OS X when Ardour was installed in a
directory containing spaces in its name. Plugin GUIs are now guaranteed to
appear on top of the editor and other windows. Clicks on
plugins/inserts/send names now work even when numlock is engaged.

Printing
Software Development :: Libraries
About: CUPS provides a portable printing layer for Unix(r)-based operating
systems. It has been developed to promote a standard printing solution for
all Unix vendors and users. CUPS provides the System V and Berkeley
command line interfaces, and uses the Internet Printing Protocol ("IPP")
as the basis for managing print jobs and queues. The Line Printer Daemon
(LPD) Server Message Block (SMB), and AppSocket (a.k.a. JetDirect)
protocols are also supported with reduced functionality. CUPS adds network
printer browsing and PostScript Printer Description ("PPD") based printing
options to support real world printing under UNIX. It includes an image
file RIP that supports printing of image files to non-PostScript printers.
A customized version of GNU Ghostscript 7.05 for CUPS called ESP
Ghostscript is available separately to support printing of PostScript
files within the CUPS driver framework. Sample drivers for Dymo, EPSON,
HP, and OKIDATA printers are included that use these filters.
Changes: This release fixes several build system, printing, PPD, and IPP
conformance issues. It also fixes a crash bug in the scheduler when
printing to files in non-existent directories.

System :: Hardware
About: Gizmo Daemon is a program for controlling your computer based on
events from input devices. It has built-in support for all Linux input
devices, including keyboards with special keys, joysticks, remotes, dials,
and more. It lets you control applications, launch programs, change the
system volume, switch desktops, and directly control Amarok. It has
special support for the Griffin PowerMate USB Dial, allowing certain
events to be visualized on the PowerMate's LED (such as Amarok sound
output, CPU usage, etc.). It features support for LIRC based Remotes as
well as RF Remotes (such as the ATI X10 Remote), allowing it to have
per-application key mappings and configurable sensitivity settings (handy
for MythTV users).
Changes: Rebuilt from the ground up. The primary focus was to make the
configuration scripts much more manageable and easy to understand. Amarok
support for visualizing music on the PowerMate USB Dial. A number of fixes
for remote users. A new "stray button" detection scheme means that remote

[026] - GREYCstoration 2.5.2.1
by Rodrigo Vigna (http://freshmeat.net/users/skrull/)
Wed, May 9th 2007 23:58
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors
About: GREYCstoration is an image regularization algorithm that processes
an image by locally removing small variations of pixel intensities while
preserving significant global image features, such as sharp edges and
corners. The most direct application is denoising. By extension, it can
also be used to inpaint or resize images. It is based on methods using
nonlinear multi-valued diffusion PDEs (Partial Differential Equations)
for image regularization. This kind of method generally outperforms
basic image filtering techniques (such as convolution, median filtering,
etc.) classically encountered in painting programs. Other image
denoising plugins are available, but are not free, and the corresponding

[027] - HAproxy 1.3.10 (Development)
by Willy Tarreau (http://freshmeat.net/users/wtarreau/)
Wed, May 9th 2007 00:30
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
System :: Networking
About: HAproxy is a high-performance and highly-robust TCP/HTTP load
balancer which provides cookie-based persistence, advanced traffic
regulation with surge protection, automatic failover, run-time regex-based
header control, Web-based reporting, advanced logging to help
trouble-shooting buggy applications and/or networks, and a few other
features. Its own event-driven state machine achieves 10,000 hits per
second on modern hardware, even with tens of thousands of simultaneous
connections.
Changes: Several bugs introduced with speculative I/O were fixed, as well
as another rare one on TCP. Support for URI hashing and SMTP health checks
was added. The heavy rbtree was replaced with a faster ul2tree, giving
about a 5% performance boost. A new framework to implement ACLs was
written, with a preliminary support for IP, port, and URI criteria. Users
of 1.3.9 on Linux should really upgrade to fix issues caused by
speculative I/O.

[030] - HTML Forms generation and validation 2007.05.08
by Manuel Lemos (http://freshmeat.net/users/mlemos/)
Wed, May 9th 2007 04:07
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: HTML Forms generation and validation is a PHP class that generates
HTML forms supporting many built-in validation types on server and client
sides. It prevents security attacks by discarding spoofed values, has
multiple submit protection, outputs HTML for fields displayed as fully
accessible or in read-only mode, and has field value filtering and
reformatting. It can be extended with custom control plug-ins. AJAX based
form submission, upload monitor progress bar, auto-complete text input,
automatic layout renderer, calendar date, CAPTCHA, Google Maps world
location selection, linked select, and animation effects plug-ins are
available.
Changes: An option was added to submit forms via AJAX without performing
prior validation. The auto-complete plug-in was fixed to not try to
validate the form when performing the AJAX request to retrieve the list of
completion texts. The secure submit plug-in was fixed to make the forms
class not return incorrect information when the allowed form submission
period has expired. An option was added to the automatic vertical layout
plugin to display form input rows on which the input and its label appear
in switched positions, which is useful for displaying check boxes and
radio buttons.

by Nocturn (http://freshmeat.net/users/nocturn/)
Wed, May 9th 2007 07:10

About: K5expire is a tool to complement a Kerberos/LDAP server
combination. It checks all kerberos principals per user in LDAP for
password and/or account expiration and sends email to the owners if they
will expire in a preconfigured amount of time. It started as a hack to
emulate the behavior of expiration found in pam_unix and Windows, but this
method is believed to be less intrusive because it does not delay the login
process.

completely lossless. There is no quality lost in the change because the
program adjusts the mp3 file directly, without decoding and re-encoding.

by mikeStabie (http://freshmeat.net/users/mikeStabie/)
Wed, May 9th 2007 10:41
Scientific/Engineering :: Electronic Design Automation (EDA)
About: Scheture is a hierarchical schematic capture system with built-in
netlisters for Spice and Verilog. It has built-in plotting for HP PCL and
HP GL/2 printers and plotters. It includes a set of symbol primitives, and
allows user-defined symbol primitives to allow for extensive customization
of primitive properties. The system supports wire buses and iterated
instances. The system also supports global pins and implicitly connected
pins on a specific sheet. Supported platforms include Solaris and Linux
(32- and 64-bit).
Changes: Minor bugfixes and 3 minor enhancements. The first enhancement
adjusts wires attached to symbols when they are moved to maintain their
attachment to the symbol's pin. The second enhancement allows you to force
a comment when saving a schematic to disk. When enabled, the comments
assist in tracking changes prior to a major event such as a tapeout. The
third change enables the title block symbol to dynamically display the

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
About: Stunnix JS-Obfus protects your JavaScript code from potential
analyzing/studying/reworking by unwanted parties. It's both an obfuscator
and encoder for the JavaScript/JScript source code. It converts the
JavaScript/JScript source files into highly mangled and obfuscated form,
making it extremely difficult to study, analyse, reuse, and re-work for
competitors or customers, while fully retaining functionality of the
original source code, and then encodes it afterwards, making it completely
unreadable. There are a lot of options to control all aspects of code
hiding, and full support for all syntax constructs. It is designed to be
multi-module aware.
Changes: Obfuscation and encoding of scripts stored in UTF-8 have been
improved. Support has been added for mangling all characters aside from
markup in documents that embed javascript (e.g. .html, .php, or .asp

Multimedia :: Video :: Conversion
About: videotrans is a set of scripts that convert a movie file in any
format that mplayer understands to a DVD-compatible VOB file, doing all
the necessary conversions automatically. An automatic DVD menu generator
is also provided.
Changes: A bug has been fixed in the function library that detects audio
and video parameters. This bug caused the audio rate of a given audio to
be wrong sometimes. ffmpeg cannot resample from 5 to 6 channels when
encoding AC3 files, and MPlayer cannot do this conversion either.
Therefore, this release uses the number of channels from the source, if
this number is greater than 2. The parameters for ffmpeg have been changed
(the 'k' in the -ab option has been added). The determination of the number

Changes: Support for several operating systems was added, most notably
Windows Vista and Solaris 10. 64-bit guest support was improved. Support
for multiple monitors was also added for those not physically available on
the host. Integrated virtual debuggers for Visual Studio and Eclipse were
added. Virtual machines can now run in the background, detached from the
screen, as in VMware Server. They can also act as VNC servers without
special software on the host or guest. Copy and Paste buffer support and
Drag and Drop functionality were enhanced. High-Speed USB (2.0) devices
are now supported.
