[006] - C++ Portable Types Library (PTypes) 2.1.0
by Hovik Melikyan (http://freshmeat.net/users/hovik/)
Tue, May 15th 2007 06:13
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries
About: The C++ Portable Types Library (PTypes) is a simple alternative to
the STL that includes multithreading and networking. It defines dynamic
strings, character sets, variants, lists and other basic data types along
with threads, synchronization primitives and IP sockets. It is portable
across modern Unix and Windows systems and includes a sample HTTP daemon
showing the full power of the library.
Changes: In addition to Intel and PowerPC, atomic functions (inc/dec/swap)
are now implemented in the assembly language for SPARC platforms as well.
More exotic platforms still use a mutex hash table in these functions.
Another important improvement in this release is introduction of portable
64-bit file/stream positioning.

About: ccextractor is a fast closed-captions extractor for MPEG files. It
can generate .srt (subtitles) files directly from your HDTV recordings or
DVDs, as well as from other sources.
Changes: Text mode handling was added to the decoder, which gets rids of
junk when text mode data is present. Support for certain (possibly
non-standards compliant) DVDs that add more captions block in a user data
block than they should was added. An issue in the roll-up init code that
caused the previous popup captions not to be written to disk was fixed
along with other minor bugs.

[009] - check_logfiles 2.0
by lausser (http://freshmeat.net/users/lausser/)
Tue, May 15th 2007 01:45
System :: Diagnostics
System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
About: check_logfiles is a plugin for Nagios which checks logfiles for
defined patterns. It is capable of detecting logfile rotation. If you tell
it how the rotated archives look, it will also examine these files. Unlike
check_logfiles, traditional logfile plugins were not aware of the gap
which could occur, so under some circumstances they ignored what had
happened between their checks. A configuration file is used to specify
where to search, what to search, and what to do if a matching line is
found.
Changes: A complete code redesign was undertaken. The main functionality
was moved into a Perl module. Output of performance data was added along
with official support for non-rotating logfiles. Lots of bugs and
performance bottlenecks were fixed.

Tue, May 15th 2007 01:46
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
System :: Networking
About: Dual DHCP DNS Server is a combined DHCP/DNS server for small LANs.
Dynamic DHCP allocates/renews host addresses, while the caching DNS server
first tries resolving from DHCP-allotted names, then from cache, and only
then forwarding to external DNS servers. It has built in dynamic updates,
and also supports BOOTP PXE network booting and client specific options.
It is self-configuring, doesn't require the creation of zone files, and
uses little memory and CPU.
Changes: This release supports zone transfer and replication and can
provide a fully synchronized DHCP backup service.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
About: focuseek searchbox is a family of easily installable full-text
search engines that can spider Internet and intranet data sources (Web
sites, newsgroups, FTP sites, and others) or index data you feed to it and
make it available for searching. It supports a variety of input formats
(among them HTML, PDF, Microsoft Word DOC, and RTF), and is easily
scriptable via SOAP and extendable through plugins. It can scale to
millions of documents and comes with a full-fledged GUI client, a built in
Web search portal, and an RSS server.
Changes: More gathering protocols, more document formats, and more
detailed gathering logging were added. Gathering may be done with an SSL
digital certificate. New fetching plugins, new parsing plugins, and a new
concept of Metadata Template were added. The rendering plugins were
improved. Cache type is now selectable. Source throttling was added. Time
limits were set on gathering activity. Documents may be manually added and

[020] - gnoMint 0.1.5
by DaveFX (http://freshmeat.net/users/davefx/)
Tue, May 15th 2007 11:06
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Systems Administration
About: gnoMint is a tool for easily creating and managing certification
authorities. It provides fancy visualization of all the pieces of
information that pertain to a CA, such as x509 certificates, CSRs, and
CRLs. gnoMint is currently capable of managing a CA that emits
certificates that are able to authenticate people or machines in VPNs
(IPSec or other protocols), secure HTTP communications with SSL/TLS,
authenticate and cipher HTTP communications through Web-client
certificates, and sign or crypt email messages.
Changes: This version can import the public part of Certificate Signing
Requests made by other applications as long as they are formatted in PEM
or in DER formats. This way, gnoMint can make certificates for remote
users or systems that can create their CSRs with other instances of
gnoMint or other software. This version has updated its DB format, and
ensures that there won't be two or more CSRs in the database with the same
Distinguished Name (DN). It also fixes some nasty bugs.

[021] - Hegons 0.3
by S0lo (http://freshmeat.net/users/S0lo/)
Tue, May 15th 2007 03:06
Scientific/Engineering
About: HEGONS is a HEterogeneous Grooming Optical Network Simulator that
supports mixed routing and wavelength assignment algorithms and optional
wavelength conversions capability on each node. The goal of Hegons is the
evaluation of different dynamic routing and wavelength assignment (RWA)
algorithms in WDM optical networks in terms of several measures such as:
call blocking probability, fairness (variance in blocking probability),
call setup time, etc.
Changes: A new "Multi-hop Partial Grooming" node type was added. A partial
grooming node can now have multiple G-fabrics. This is a new concept that
has never been discussed in the literature. The RWA method chosen will be
applied internally in the nodes between W and G fabrics as well as
externally. -px and -pn options were added for controlling the max/min
number of times G-fabric switchings are done per call. Other minor fixes
and changes were made.

Security
Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Monitoring
About: The Prelude Library (libprelude) is the glue that binds all aspects
of Prelude together. Prelude is a hybrid Intrusion Detection framework
implementing an open communication layer for use by any security
application. libprelude is a library that enables Prelude components to
communicate with the Prelude concentrator. It also makes it easy for third
party software to be made 'Prelude Aware' (able to communicate with Prelude
components). It provides common, useful features used by every sensor.
Changes: TCP keepalive settings were implemented on platforms that support
it. When reading prelude-adduser password from a file, the newline at the
end of the string is removed. When reading an IDMEF message fails, more
information about the place where the error happened is provided. An issue
with idmef_path_get() on empty path (pointing to the root message) was
fixed. Various bugfixes and minor API improvements were made.

[034] - Local IP Takeover 1.2
by Frederik Dannemare (http://freshmeat.net/users/dannemare/)
Tue, May 15th 2007 05:48
System :: Networking
About: Local IP Takeover provides network link redundancy within a single
server that has multiple network interface cards (NICs) with each NIC
connected to separate network switches. If the primary NIC fails (i.e. it
cannot ping its default gateway), the "service" IP (the IP that the
outside world connects to) will automatically float to the secondary NIC
and a specially crafted ARP (utilizing send_arp) will be broadcast on the
local network, thereby instructing all other hosts to update their local
ARP cache. The result is minimal service downtime. Plus, no manual
intervention is required in the event that a network card, cable, or
switch breaks.
Changes: The initialization step is more robust and it doesn't allow lipt
to abort its execution. Instead, lipt should recover to a sane state
eventually (within less than half a minute under normal circumstances).
Other minor fixes were made.

[035] - media hive 0.9
by Doug Crane (http://freshmeat.net/users/0dcrane/)
Tue, May 15th 2007 01:51
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Video
About: The media hive is a streaming media server and Web-based
content/playlist manager. It emphasizes usability by making it easy to
manage a media catalog that contains multiple media types (mp3, mpg, avi,
etc.), and by providing a very full-featured playlist. It also emphasizes
extensibility by making it easy to develop new media parsers, playlist
actions, event handlers, skins, and more. It has an entire custom tag
library devoted to skin development, making it simple for the
non-developer to create radically different Web-based user interfaces. It
has no installation dependencies and runs on multiple platforms.
Changes: This release introduces media hive Badges. Badges are dynamic
images that can list your favorite catalog content or show system usage
information. They can be embedded in a Web site, MySpace page, blog, as a
forum signature, etc. The system comes with highly-configurable stock
badges. Custom badges are easily created using standard HTML/XHTML.

easy-to-use call control API. WengoPhone supports PC-to-PC voice, video,
and chat. One can use a standard SIP service provider such as Wengo to be
assigned an incoming number, make calls to PSTN/cell phones, get voice
mail, and more.
Changes: Major changes since the 2.0 release include secure PC to PC calls
with sRTP, improved interoperability, the ability to configure any SIP
platform easily, and improved interoperability with other softphones.
There are dozens of GUI changes to make the app more user friendly. Over a
dozen translations are complete. There is vastly improved stability,
particularly on Linux and Mac OS.
