Internet
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: BalanceNG is a modern software IP load balancing solution. It is
small, fast, and easy to use and setup. It offers session persistence,
different distribution methods (Round Robin, Random, Weighted Random,
Least Session, Least Bandwidth, Hash, Agent, and Randomized Agent) and a
customizable UDP health check agent in source code. It supports VRRP to
set up high availability configurations on multiple nodes. It supports
SNMP, integrating the BALANCENG-MIB with Net-SNMPD. It integrates pcap
packet dumping for debugging purposes and allows the implementation of a
"transparent forensic logging bridge".

Changes: The commands "bng -I" and "bng -N" were added (displaying
instance information and nodeid). A new command line option "bng purge"
has been added. Preceding the special token "!" to a command suppresses
the output of an interactive prompt afterwards. The new file
/etc/bng.global is pre-evaluated by all instances (allowing global
settings and global licensing). All inherited and unneeded file
descriptors are now closed on startup. The manual has been updated to
release 1.870.0.

  by jefix (http://freshmeat.net/users/jefix/)
  Thu, May 24th 2007 07:12

Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

About: KuFtp is a graphical FTP client for the K Desktop Environment. It
implements many features required for usable FTP interaction. One of the
most notable features is the use of tabs to represent sessions. This is
like the feature in Konqueror or Firefox which allows you to have multiple
simultaneous FTP sessions in separate tabs. Other features include a
bookmark manager, history recording, and a queue manager.

Changes: XML is used to store bookmarks and history. The queue can be
loaded, saved, and cleared. A statusbar was added to show progress, speed,
elapsed time, and remaining time. Bookmarks can be clicked to connect. A
thread architecture is now used.

Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters

About: Seed7 is a general purpose programming language. It is a higher
level language compared to Ada, C++, and Java. In Seed7, new statements
and operators can be declared easily. Functions with type results and type
parameters are more elegant than a template or generics concept. Object
orientation is used when it brings advantages and not in places when other
solutions are more obvious. Although Seed7 contains several concepts of
other programming languages, it is generally not considered as a direct
descendant of any other programming language.

Changes: The file version.h was removed to force the creation of it with
the "make depend" command. The read_me was changed such that "rm
version.h" is not necessary to compile. Several constant types were
defined in data_rtl.h. The files str_rtl.c, str_rtl.h, set_rtl.c, and
set_rtl.h were changed to use constant types. A bug with compare functions
for array sorts and hash tables was fixed. The makefile mk_linux.mak was
added as copy of 'makefile'. The makefile mk_msvc.mak was added to allow
experimental compilation with nmake and cl.

  Thu, May 24th 2007 07:15

Communications :: Internet Phone
Communications :: Telephony
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Speech

About: Speex is a patent-free compression format designed especially for
speech. It is specialized for voice communications at low bit-rates in the
2-45 kbps range. Possible applications include Voice over IP (VoIP),
Internet audio streaming, audio books, and archiving of speech data (e.g.
voice mail).

Changes: The RAM requirement for wideband has gone down drastically (by
more than two times). A new resampler module has been added, providing
fast arbitrary sampling rate conversion. The echo canceller has also been
improved. A bug in 1.2beta1 that made the echo canceller unstable has been
fixed. The echo canceller should now converge faster, and should be robust
and tolerant of incorrect capture-playback synchronization. The
preprocessor has also been greatly improved. Not only should the quality
be better, but it is now fully converted to fixed-point. At last, early

Office/Business

About: Webconverger is an evolution of the hybrid client for deployments
in places like offices or Internet cafes where only Web applications are

responsive by providing a Web browser that runs locally.

Changes: This release is available in Korean, French, and German.

[059] - WidgetServer 1.5.0

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: WidgetServer is a Java/XML server-side GUI-framework which enables
an application to run as either a monolithic Swing app, a client/server
Swing app, or as a Web app without any change and without loss of
functionality. A rich widget set is supported that includes tree views,
tabbed panes, split panels, and much more. A unified widget-based,
object-oriented programming interface for Web and Swing GUIs is offered to
the developer to control and assemble the GUI. Web applications are fully
AJAX enabled. For Swing client/server applications, the framework handles
client/server communication, including compression and security layers. A
GUI builder is included.

Changes: This release introduces a new "anchored popup" component. The
RCLICK event was added to trigger popups. An enhanced table header
renderer (sort, search, sort and search) has been implemented. A new,
smarter tabbed-pane renderer for HTML/Web applications is included. A new
attribute "wrap" for links, labels, checkboxes, and radiobuttons is
available now. All new features are included in the
HelloWorld-ComponentSet demo.

[060] - x11vnc 0.9.1
  by Karl Runge (http://freshmeat.net/users/runge/)

Communications :: Conferencing
Desktop Environment :: Tools
System :: Monitoring

About: x11vnc is a program that allows one to remotely view and interact
with real X displays (i.e. a display corresponding to a physical
monitor, keyboard, and mouse) with any VNC viewer. It is similar to
WinVNC and is designed to be compatible with all Unix variants and
depend on a very small set of standard libraries. It supports a growing
number of command line options, such as -nofb for dual- headed mode with
Win2VNC. It is part of the LibVNCServer project.

Changes: The UltraVNC Java Viewer has been modified to support SSL
encrypted connections. Additional bugfixes and improvements were also
made. A compiled jar file and patches are provided. A Unix username
identification method is available when SSL client certificates are used
to authenticate VNC viewers: the username is retrieved from the
certificate. As in the "-unixpw" mode, the Unix username information aids
per-user X session detection and creation (e.g. in "-svc" mode). The SSL
client certificate is also available via the environment to custom login
programs run by x11vnc.

About: xen-tools is a collection of scripts that allow you to manipulate
virtual images for the Xen virtualization software. With the tools
installed, you may create new instances of Debian, complete with
networking, OpenSSH, and user accounts, with one simple command. Images
may also be easily updated, listed, or deleted.

Changes: This release includes a more flexible configuration file, which
allows you to expand the output of commands. Additionally generated Debian
guests will now be configured with an identical system locale to that of
the Xen dom0.
